[Q] Can't open / download attached zip file in Gmail - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received an email yesterday with a Zip file attached, the GMail client wouldn't let me download & stated that there was no viewer to View it.
I have File Expert installed which will open & decompress zip files (over and above any native OS support for zips) but this is not offered as a choice.
I would have thought that there should be an option to download the file even if there is no way of opening it, is there a configuration somewhere ?
Kind of essential, I get a lot of zipped files in emails.

Search the market for "Download All Files" from HwkRbbt Software. It works great and allows saving of EVERYTHING.

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

try androzip from the market, unzips anything, and is a brilliant file manager as well

I am having trouble with this as well. My zip files show up in GMail with a 'INFO' box that when I tap onto it prompts me with a window saying that there is no application found to view it.
I have tried a few file managers already, including ASTRO (Which I own) plus the suggestions above. I take this for granted on my Droid X already...Any ideas?

I've had the same issue on both my phones and my tablet. No file manager or download manager has ever helped, including down droid, download all files, and ASTRO file manager, any other ideas? Thanks, sharf

Downloading .zip's a PROBLEM

This is my third Android phone, but the first with this problem. Zip files only download like 64kb,and not the whole zip. When I download a metamorph theme for example on my phone it will say the theme is invalid. But if I download that same file om my comp and copy to my sd card, itll work......my captivate wont download the full zip. Please help
I have the same issue, haven't seen it resolved.
Blah. This is something so simple I was able to do on my nexus and droid 1. Pretty sad the Cappy cant
Is this on just the default browser or on opera and dolphin too?
I tried dolphin and same....
Does it do this with other types of downloads?
I read somewhere that certain file types like zip and rar isn't associated with any program and the download will fail. Download Crutch Lite app allows you to download the file by allowing you to associate it to a program. Not sure though.

[Q] I'm new to this world. How do I install apps from here?

Hi. I hope I'm posting this in the right section, but how would I install apps on my T-Mo MyTouch 3G Slide, that are offered on this or any other forum? Do I download them to my PC and first start the installation there, somehow? Or how would I do it??
I'm very new to this whole Android world. I just bought my phone.
Thanx for the help!!
Applications in this forum usually comes in the form of .apk's. An apk is an installer file for Android and must be run from the phone.
So you have two options when you find programs here on this forum:
1. You download the file on your PC, connect the phone to your PC and mount the SD-card, copy the file over and run it from your phone
2. Browse to the forums via your phone and download them directly and run them
It can be done via dropbox, chrome2phone, email etc as well if you want to

THANK YOU!!!!
The file that I download, copy in to any folder (Programs ect...) on to your SD card and run the file from the phone, correct? What is the format of that file needs to be? It won't be an *.exe right? What format do I make sure the correct file is? Is there any other ways? Just asking
Thank You!!
You can put it anywhere on the SD-card, just be sure you have some sort of file manager from the market and remember where you put it After that you just run it and it should install (if you get several options when you run the file, the correct one to run it with is "Package Installer").
The files will be in the format programname.apk

Where is the .zip file I downloaded?

Hello, I have downloaded a zip file through IE. Where I can find it ?
Thank you
There isnt a specific place... each app has its own isolated storage where it keeps their files.
You should be able to open that ZIP file from the browser and it will show you the files within... if they are recognised file types by WP7, it will let you run them.
But that's it, you have no file manager you can goto and fetch that saved file.
PS: well, you have... but I'm unsure if TouchXplorer is still working or not.
Thanks for this, but how can i delete it if I can't find it? I use the TouchXplorer...
I am concerning about the phone memory.
Generally, files downloaded through IE are stored in temporary memory and will be erased after a certain amount of time.
I ran into the same problem today. luckily i hit the windows button so all I have to do is hit the back button to reach the zip file again. Kind of frustrating when you dont have a file explorer and no other way to reach the file you just downloaded

[Q] Writing a file back to a Marketplace apps Isolated Storage?

Hi All,
I've used Heathcliff's WP7RootTools 0.9 to extract a file from an installed apps IsolatedStorage. The app in question was installed from the Marketplace, but I want to modify some of the files it's saved to it's Isolated Storage.
I extracted the file I wanted to edit by using the Explorer utility in WP7RootTools to copy the file to the "My Documents" folder, and renamed the extension to docx. From there I could simply go into the Office Hub, where the file was now listed, and emailed the file to myself.
I have made the edits to the file, but now need to get the file back into the app's Isolated Storage. This is where I have now got a bit stuck
I've tried copying the file to SkyDrive, and using the Office Hub to download it from SkyDrive to my phone. The file downloaded and is cached on the phone somewhere, but the file location, according to Office is not "Phone". This is normal, as Skydrive downloaded documents are not saved to the "Phone" location until you open the document and do "Save as".
I cannot of course open the downloaded file, as it isn't really a .docx file. Files loacted in the "Phone" location show up in "My Documents" in the WP7RootTools explorer. SkyDrive downloaded documents I have no idea where they are located?
Can you guys help? Does anyone know the path to location of SkyDrive downloaded items on the phone. If so, then I can easily just use the WP7Roottools Explorer to copy the file back to the apps Isolated Storage.
Is there a better way to copy a non-Office file back onto the phone?
Regards,
Micro666
You could use one of these apps:

i was going to suggest using WPV App Data Backup, but it seems i saved the Backups in the wrong location... (will fix in next release)
so,
you can use TouchXperience or WMDC Launcher.

I'm looking to do the exact same thing....
Options:
1. Do exactly what you've been doing, but save as .txt instead of .docx. The phone can still open this, even though its probably a binary file, and save it to the "Phone" location. Then you can copy it back and rename it.
2. Use an app that gives direct access to the phone's filesystem from the PC, like TouchXperience+WPDM, or Root Webserver (see my sig)+your favorite webbrowser.
3. Use any other way to get a file onto the phone, such as emailing it to yourself, using IsolatedStorageexplorer, or putting it in a XAP files and installing that file. Then move the file with WP7 Root Tools.
I recommend approach #2.

I used TouchExperience.
1.On my Fully unlocked Device(I assume you can do this with root tools), I installed a file manager that gives full access to the device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24636416&postcount=23
2. I installed TouchEperience on my PC. After giving the WP7 app, Root tools rights, it should show most of the file system(on the PC) but, not all of it. So I created a new folder in \Windows (temp).
3. On the Phone, I hunted down the file I was looking for from Isolated Storage, I copied it to the \windows\temp folder.
4. Used the PC TouchExperience and browsed to \Windows\temp, there was my files, I copied them to my PC. USed the File Explorer to delete the files in my \temp folder(to make sure they were gone).
5. I edited the files, copied them back to \Windows\Temp on my device via TouchExperience on the PC. Then used the file explorer to copy them back to the Isolated Storage.
Note: The file explorer I posted a link to is GREAT, it can even edit files (basic text editor) in Isolated storage. I found a way to Cheat on a marketplace Xbox live game (didn't try others), right before the achivements, so they were really easy to get
I'm sure there is easier methods but, this worked for me...
Can I ask, what app did you try this on ?
Hope this helped...
FYI DavidinCT: Cheating XBL games is very risky. Microsoft often can detect it (for example, if you get one achievement that would have required getting another first) and they can and will permanently ban your Xbox Live account for doing so.
That all said... why didn't you just use WPDM (on the PC) to copy the file straight to the IsoStore of the app? So much easier...

To be honest, I only did it with a game that had an error when I got so far, so the final achivements of the game. A Game with a Known issue but, no fix.
And I just really wanted to see if I COULD do it...
I used WPDM but, the PC version even with my phone fully unlocked (custom rom on my VZW HTC Trophy) and using Root tools 0.9 to give full to TouchExperince root, would not see all the folders and would not see the IsoStore. SO I had to copy the files to a folder that WMDM could see.
Personally, the new File Explorer above is awsome, it's even got a editor in it, I didn't even need to go through all that......

Help with Currency Converter Small App ( com.sony.smallapp.currency)

Hey all,
This "small app" has recently become broken because the source for the currency file's URL has changed.
When the app is newly installed, it pops an error at first launch:
"Unable to download currency file. Please try again later".
It broke around mid-july 2018.
What I'm looking for is the latest available currency file so that the program can at least work (even if it can't update).
It should be located at:
Android/data/com.sony.smallapp.currency/files/
If someone could kindly .zip and upload the "files" folder here, it would be majorly helpful.
Thanks.
i think is that the data to work again
I think is the data to work..i hope work again

Thanks much for your reply stathis, sadly that doesn't fix it.
If your device is rooted, could you copy and upload the following folder as well:
/data/data/com.sony.smallapp.currency/
I believe something in the .xml changes when the soft has successfully downloaded the .csv file by itself.
Thank you.
This is only found ..i hope work

It worked finally!
Also while the app's internal update mechanism is broken, we can update manually, here is the most recent currency database file :
https://www4.bcb.gov.br/Download/fechamento/20180927.csv
Thank you again for your help!
Here's how to update manually:
1. Download the newest .csv file from: https://ptax.bcb.gov.br/ptax_internet/consultarTodasAsMoedas.do?method=consultaTodasMoedas
2. Delete the old .csv file and copy the new .csv file in:
Android/data/com.sony.smallapp.currency/files/
3. Disable WiFi, then launch Currency Converter app. It'll detect and use the newest .csv
4. Done!
