(q) REALLY, really slow reading/writting speeds at sd card - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, recently I have been having problems with my sd card and now I'm getting from 350 kb/s to 1.5 mb/s writting speeds (I'm copying a backup of my sd card and it's been copying for like.. 2 hours), so, anyone can help me?
I'm using CM 9.1.2 by Hehappy (THe first one he released, not the new one).
Thanks in advance.

Class of sd card? This usually indicated how fast the sdcard is. For example class 4= 4 mb/s read and write speed. The higher the class the faster ur sdcard

Have you tried removing the SD card from your phone and connecting it to your PC with a SD card reader? I usually get better speeds that way.

I have the same problem, I have a samsung class 6 microsdhc 16 gb, and i get write - 2.5 mbps and read 11-13 mbps

You could try with a class 10 (highest class) SD card. Or use a card reader. I've also read that if the port damaged or old, etc., so try putting it in another port. Maybe that'll help.

Increase The Reading Speed Of Your SD Card

I saw this on XDA front page and thought this might be something that Galaxy s users would be interested in since the phone has so low internal memory.
I havent tried this on my Galaxy S because im gonna be selling it anyday now but hopefully this helps out.

This is great news!
This script does not work on our phones. Our ROM doesn't automatically boot scripts that are inside the init.d folder. We don't even have an init.d folder and even if you created it the script will not run on boot.
I'm looking for a workaround.
**EDIT**
If you download SD Card Booster from the market (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vaelek.sdspeedboost&feature=search_result) it will do the same as the script and it will change the value on boot.
I confirmed this myself.
**EDIT**
My SD card speed results using SD Tools:
@128 (stock)
6.8/write
14.9/read
@2048
7.9/write
36.8/read
@3072
3.8/write
31.4/read
@2560
6.1/write
31.2/read
I left the speed at 2048. Post your results.
PS... I'm using the stock SD card.

No. Just install it.
I couldnt run the script because I'm missing the /system/xbin/echo binary so simply bought it off the market (that app just run these scripts). instant reward. 9.5 write and 31.5 read at 2560.
That is, with the Vibrant's built in SD card. Don't have a tool to test the external card yet.
Hm. I'm not getting the same results using a 32gb card and the app set to 2048.

You have to play around with the cache size. The 'optimum' speed varies with each SD card.

[Q] Desire S, Changing SD card

My 8gb SD card in my Desire S is almost running out.. I have like 3.4 gb left. I'm planning to buy a 16gb sd card for my phone.. How will i transfer all my files, apps, games, also the save games to the new sd card? Is it only copy paste all the folder to the new SD card? Or i'll backup the apps? When i put the new 16gb SD card on my phone, i want nothing will change, like the same wallpaper, the widgets in the screen, etc.. except the memory of course. I don't wanna reinstall all of them again. Is their a way to do that? Thanks!
Yeah basically that's it .
'Almost running out'? you've near 50% left when you take in that you never get the full 8Gb due to system files etc

have you tried it, copy paste the folders to the new SD card? I heard some people are having problems like they had to redownload all the apps and install it. So, i'm just making sure nothing will change. Can you give me some steps on how to do this without having any problems? Thanks!

It's easiest and quickest to do if you have a card reader but ultimately all you do is copy all files from SD1 to SD2 (via PC)
Best to power off phone (ensure that you have settings->power->fastboot=OFF)
remove SD1
load SD1 into card reader
copy SD1 to a directory on PC
load SD2 into card reader
copy PC (SD1 files) to SD2
replace SD2 in phone
power on phone
nothing will have changed.
If you don't have a card reader then simply do then same but with the SD cards in the phone (mounting SD as Disk), worth Quick Formatting SD2 before you copy files from PC onto it so that its empty.
What if I'm on a custom Rom, like virtuous unity? Will it go back to stock after changing the SD card? And do I have to root the phone again? Thanks!

Sounds ok, although I don't personally know the manufacturer....
The size you want depends on the use that you give phone, if you watch movies often, listen to lots of music or are constantly flashing ROMS therefore taking backups, possibly consider a 32Gb card, I personally believe that you can never have enough space...on SD (obviously depends on budget).
The higher the class the faster/better the card
The current SDHC specification defines Class 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 as follows:
Code:
Class Minimum Speed
2 2MB/s
4 4MB/s
6 6MB/s
8 8MB/s
10 10MB/s
1 1 megabyte (MB) = 1 million bytes
2 Based on SanDisk internal testing; performance may vary depending upon host device.
I thought I read somewhere on the forums that Desire s can't read cards above class 6 at their full speed ( could well be wrong on that).
The cards will work fine just the transfer speeds won't be as stated
Did anyone try this already? I'm just want to make sure that nothing will change, and i won't reinstall anything.. It's such a hassle reinstalling everything. My phone is rooted and on a custom ROM virtuous unity 2.37.. You guys positively sure that when i put the 16gb sd card on my phone, nothing will change? Even the widgets on the screen? I'm getting my sd card this week, so i just wanna make sure. Thanks!

Yes ,it's how I changed from the 8Gb card that came with the phone to the 16Gb I have in it now
Does it matter class of SD card, I mean has any sence in speed of daily work with SD having 10 class or class 2 of default one is enough?

was your phone rooted, and on a custom ROM when you changed the SD card? You just did the steps that ben_pyett posted? You didn't reinstall anything in your phone? Everything was exactly the same like with the old SD card? Sorry for asking too many questions, i just don't wanna reinstall anything again, and i don't wanna fix the homescreen.

As far as I know the card can't transfer at a rate above a class 6 card.Obviously it will accept faster cards but only read/write to them at a class 6 speed

Also what format are they formatted in? .. because I believe they'll need to be in FAT32, not NTFS and not EXT4.

Is this the microsd pro rated at 70mb read and 20 write?
Can you test your read write speeds with the app SD card tester or a1 SD bench? I'd like to know if 18read 12 write is normal when tested in with a phone app.

yes this is the samsung pro 64gb micro sd rated at 70mb read 20mb write
i ran the a1 sd bench- using longer testing . (without this box ticked the ext sd was a ridiculous 500+mb/s read 13mb/s write)
internal mem- read 135mb/sec write 71mb/sec
external sd - 21.77mb/sec read , 14.09mb/sec write
Is there instructions/links that are specific to the note 3 on how to test the speeds?

not really rocket science. can use that a1 sd bench app. there are other apps arounds.
or time how long a file takes to transfer with a stop watch. then calculate the transfer speed , which is what i did with that single large file. since i'm mainly transfering movies/shows across, i figured this was a better real life test than using an app.

micro sd card LOW write speed

Hi ,
I have problems with my micro sd card class 10 (16 gb) due to low write speed (write speed should be around 10 MB per sec.). I have been using this sd card since my HTC EVO 3D without a problem.
With my SGS4 I never get more than 2 MB/s of write speed (transfering files from pc to phone). I was also playing with sd cache (I tried 1024, 2048, 3072, 4096) but still nothing (SD booster apk).
I att. also benchmark of my card (done with A1 SD Bench).
Thank you in advance.

I am using window7 x64 so I tought maybe something is wrong with my PC but I did not find any solution on google regarding this problem. I had tried a lot of aapks for changig sd cache but without success - I can change cache but I get no difference in write speed.
how have you tested the write speed? If u just link the phone to PC and copy files from pc to the SD Card, it should be slow, because gs4 has no hard disk mode (I don't know if with some apps can make a real hard disk mode, I always copy big files with card reader).
If u want to test the write speed, try to copy a big file from interne SD card to the extern SD card, note the copy paste time and calculate the speed.

MicroSD issue with stock Sprint ROM

I have a issue with microSD card with the stock rom (jb4.1.2, sprint).
When I insert my 32gb samsung class 10, the phones tell me that is corrupted.
I have formatted with PC (windows 8.1), with the phone (in android, not in recovery) but same issue.
I also run chkdsk from windows to fix the problem, but nothing..
The only way to get my SD working is mount and remount from android settings until it makes a strange "mount loop" and to the end phone accept the card.
Every reboot or every time I get out the card I have the same issue.
I also have issue with spotify: aftero 400 / 500 MB of downloaded cache it tell me the memory is finished.. but I got 10gb left in sd and 2 in internal.. I think issues are connected.
Have you tried a different SD card? Perhaps that card is in fact corrupt.

With CyanogenMod (10.2 and 11) works perfectly on my phone, with my old desire Z works.. The problem is only with original sprint rom..
Test: 64mb microSD works ok.. (don't ask me why I have 64mb microSD )
New test: my brother's 64gb kingstone class 10 works perfectly, my samsung 32gb class 10 on my brother's huawei p1 with CM10 works perfectly..
