I have 2 TF700's in my family. They both have the problem.
The stock browser and alot of third party browsers keep giving me this error "browser not responding" and then gives me the option to "wait" or "close".
Is this common among the TF700's?
Is there a solution?

I am guessing you are pure stalk? then yes it seems to be a stock Rom problem. You can usually click "wait" and it will come back but not always. The only solution I know is flashing back to ICS and rooting, or unlocking(which voids ASUS warranty), flash a custom recovery, and flash CleanRom. cyanogen, or a different custom rom.

Not all people seem to report this problem but I never had success with the stock rom. And yes quite a few others have similar problem but not all. I have heard the newest version of Chrome has fixed lots of lag browsing wise, try it if you have not already. When the tf700 first came out it was the first of its kind, HD screen, Keyboard Dock, Decent sized CPU and GPU. But being so introduced new problems.

I'm guessing rooting on the tablets are different than rooting on the smartphones since you need to install custom recovery in order to root a smartphone.
So what issues do the custom roms bring to the table?; I hope the advantages are worth the trouble.

Rooting does not require unlocking your boot loader. It just requires you to flash stock ice cream sandwich, root, then install ota rootkeeper, once you have that done you can upgrade to the latest android and restore the root. You cannot root Jelly bean directly. You dont need a custom recovery to root ICS, but you cannot root Jelly Bean directly .
Custom roms bring few issues to the table as long as you follow the procedures. You must first use ASUS' unlock tool, then install a recovery via fastboot, and you should be good. However if you consider unlocking I would look through all the posts of people who have messed up their devices so you dont make the same mistake. As long as you have the 10.4.4.25 bootloader and a jellybean compatible recovery you wont have problems. That seems to be the main issue when people brick their tf700's. People installing jelly bean when they do not have compatible recoveries / boot loaders.

The only custom rom WILL NOT give you any trouble but 100% faster and smoother is Clean Rom (ppl called it CROMI) currently at version 3.4.4. This is stock rom with supercharge installed. It will be night and day between stock and CROMI. You would be glad and kick yourself in the bud that you didn't use this rom sooner! and your stock browser once again will be the best browser.

That's weird I rooted my JB Galaxy S3 directly, why can't the TF700 JB be like the GS3 JB....?

You can't compare phone S3 with Asus tablet. They have different hardward bootloder etc..There is NO ODIN for tf700. In S3 you need to Odin insecure bootloader in order to root and flash custom recovery. There is no loop hole in tf700 while you're on JB (Asus patched), but there is in ICS. So if you just want root, you need to downgrade back to ICS. If you're on JB the only way you can root or flash custom recovery is to unlock your device, this allow you to use fastboot function in JB bootloader to flash custom recovery (TWRP,CWM), then use custom recovery to flash root(SuperSU) or pre-rooted custom rom.

That is a very personal decision. It was worth it to me. Instead of getting annoyed by my TF700 a dozen times a day and enjoying a warranty I may never need, I now have a tablet that runs like a dream!!
And the support the dev and others on the CROMI thread provide puts Asus to shame - easily.
When you use the Asus unlock tool it phones home to Asus servers. From then on they know that your specific tablet is unlocked. Also says so on the boot screen. And no way to reverse it, btw.

Personally I dont know any advantage on ICS over JB as I never put ICS on my tablet. Cromi is the stock asus rom, broken apart, then rebuilt. It contains the same layout and some asus stock apps however since it has different internals and all bloatware is gone is makes most if not all lag disappear. Yes we are disappointed but it is easily solved after you put a different Rom on it. Also the support for Cromi is MUCH better tehn any support ASUS could provide. To be mad at ASUS does no good. The only option if you are that disappointed it to send them back or modify the tablet yourself. Cromi and cyanogen put the stock rom to shame, and both have better support.

No, you don't need root to downgrade to ICS. You are going from one official Asus firmware release to another. That's perfectly fine.

You can always wait and hope for the JB 4.2 release. The TF300 got it and a lot of owners seem to report much better performance and less lag. Compared to the stock 4.1 of course....
I doubt stock 4.2 is going to be as good as CROMI is already

For me and most of us here, yes unlocking is well worth it.
and NO, you don't need root to flash back to ICS, just download Asus full firmware ICS .30 version, unzip it then copy it to the root of your MICROsdcard and it will flash back to ICS (some cases, you need to rename the file to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip then boot into stock recovery in order to work) . Once you're back on ICS, debugfs root tool will help you to achieve root.

During the installation of Cromi, sbdags put the flashplayer into the setup, so yes flash is supported on Cromi, by default unless you choose not to install it. Cromi is made for other devices but Cromi in the tf700 part of the forums is made specifically for the tf700. The speed is the main advantage, also it is pre rooted, and the support if you have a problem is great.

Basically im trying to get convinced on whether unlock the tf300 or not. Most i see around is people with issues and bricking their tablets
Im used to the g2x its my only experience with custom roms and it seems there is a lot more to the tablet than to my phone.
I see a lot of people complaining about not being able to return to stock..Is there an efficient way to restore to non rooted stock through cwm or that other thing forgot name. Also wich of those recovery's is best to be used. I would like to be able to return to stock unrooted at any time in the case I have to return to bestbuy or any similar issue .
I would also like your experience on the roms out there right now what are your preferences wich one is working best, is battery better than stock rom, is it worth it basically .
Do people that have bricked their tablets have done it because of bad luck it has a chance to happen or simply didn't follow the correct procedure.
I'm still a noob into this unlock bootloader and all this I would apreciate it a lot of I could be pointed the correct way of doing things
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly apreciated.
PS: I find ridiculous that interface studders a bit while on power saving mode quad core 1.0-1.1ghz come on.. Hopefully this isnt the case in CM9 ^^

If you unlock the bootloader, there is no way back!
I and I think most of the others brick there dev not while unlocking the bootoader than while rooting and then flashing the wrong image inside CWM (one f*** click).

But returned always to stock rom.
The thing is I like the extra functions of the custom rom. But hate it if somethings do not work. And losing the Asus stuff.
Custom roms are still in early development stage.
Hopefully someone makes a stock based custom rom.
I always was able to restore via CWM backup. But there are always risks.

Although I haven't unlocked my bootloader yet, based on my experiences with the TF101 as well as other android devices...if you are looking for the safe route and stability, i wouldn't recommend unlocking your bootloader and installing custom roms yet. As stated above, development for the 300 is still young, which means there will be plenty of issues that has to be ironed out yet. Usually the people who do this early on in development are the devs themselves or people who are willing to take risks and pretty much accept that they can't really use their device as a daily driver. I have experimented with CM9 aosp, miui, and other aosp stuff, and I always find myself going to a custom stock rom because they are not as plagued with as much issues like the others. There is a thread in the development section that is attempting to reverse engineer the unlocker program so that it doesnt run and tell asus on you. Once you unlock your bootloader, your device's warranty will forever be voided. Since rooting does not void your warranty, I am happy with that for now and see what becomes of the unlocker project. When doing any mods to your system, you always want to make sure that you can undo them before you actually do it.

Yeah thing guess ill give this a few more months see how stable things get prety sure things will get refined by then. I just dont see it worth it for us who just want to flash something better that just works and not mess with it for a while. I love cm based roms on my g2x and it saved my from replacing my phone. Its just not ready for this device yet. I do hope the devs keep up the good work

What he said. Well, I tried AOKP but due to a couple of things I switched back to stock rom again (aside from no Slovene keyboard layout (yet) for the dock, it had a few tiny things didn't work as I'd like and it annoyed me ). I also like ASUS's weather and battery widgets and the Day Scene live wallpaper is also great (I managed to install the weather widget and the wallpaper in AOKP, but the tiny things were still there).

You're doing the right thing.
Unless you really need to tinker alot with it - root is enough for now.
It's practically a baby when it comes to custom roms.
Since we don't have a custom stock ROM yet, here are some ways to have a custom stock ROM like experience...
1. Obviously have your TF rooted
2. Download and install adfree from the play store for ad blocking
3. Download and install Titanium Backup from the play store
-Using TB, you can debloat and remove any apps you don't want. I recommend using the "Freeze" option because some bloat apps are needed for the next OTA update to work. Use the "Defrost" option to get them back.
-Using the freeze option, freeze the app, DMClient. This will completely disable the OTA notification from appearing. Defrost it when the next OTA becomes available.
4. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641219 for build.prop edits. These are performance and battery tweaks that may improve your TF.
5. Search the play store for any apps that may provide you with the functionality and additional options/settings that you may be looking for in custom roms. Theres apps for just about anything these days.

I was actually doing just this...lol just finished rooting. Btw I dont think TB is needed since ics has option to disable apps wich seems to work fine they dont even load at startup and that is good enough for me. Gona try build. Prop now

Yeh was thinking about CM10. I had CM on my acer a500 and have it on my cellphone and find it nice and easy to use.

EDIT. Just downloaded Root Checker and its now saying this device does not have proper root access. before i did firmware update it was rooted. Superuser is still installed.

Are you unlocked? You need to unlock, then you could fastboot flash either TWRP or CWM recovery. I like TWRP and I'm on CleanROMv2.3 and Clemsyn's OC kernel v22. Performance is fantastic and everything works. The CM ROMs all have something not working 100% yet, from what I can see, but it's really whatever you're more comfortable with. CleanROM is pre-rooted so all you would have to do is get your custom recovery. Please DO NOT USE Rom Manager to install CWM recovery (I would avoid it altogether). Several experienced users have hard bricked (no coming back) their devices that way.
Yeh got it sorted and not unlocked.
Removed SD card and put just the ICS firmware off asus page on it. Tablet is on and jelly bean running I put SD card in and couple of seconds later a popup comes up to do a update / downgrade. So I run it and restarts and now running ICS again. Seen the firmware update popup so did not click it. Then install Root OTA Keeper then update to JB. Now have rooted JB with superuser and checked with root checker.
As long as you are locked you are already on the best rom available to you.
yeh not to worried about updating to custom ROM. just going to install a launcher and cleaning out some of the stock apps.

I think the best is Go Launcher HD for Pad, other may favorate Nova, Apex etc... and Go Launcer EX is a full blown mature launcher for Phone only. I believe soon Go Launcher HD will have the same features as Go Launcher EX.(this one is the best with thousand of plugin and themes).
i would stay @ stock launcher it s the most reliable one or trebuchet launcher

Created by developer flumpster, the same dev that helped sdbags with the new updated TWRP2.4.4.0. I have been running this rom for a bout a week and no issue so far. yes, just wipe cache and dalvik cache then flash it, very simple.
Edit: Rule of thumb is every time you switch from one custom rom to another you should wipe data (may not need too). However, we can do it this way without data wipe.
1. Take a nandroid backup of your current sdbags stock rom
2. Wipe cache/davlik cache and flash Hairybean rom
To go back without data wipe:
1. Restore sdbags stock rom from nandroid backup.
2. Flash sdbags new 4.2 cromi.

like you already said this should be posted in the General forum.On the other hand you encourage the cross-flashing (that rom was developed for a different device) wich imho is not good.
If the rom developer thinks that his rom is safe for the TF700T should feel free to open a thread here in the Development forum.

I already spoke to developer and he confirmed it's working for tf700. I won't post here unless I tried it myself first. In the installation, there is an option for tf700.
I've tested this for flumpster. It works on the TF700 fine.
It's based from the TF300 10.6.1.8 source with a few things nicked from the TF700 rom.
It's a similar and good alternative to CROMi-X

BTW that just installs the TF700 build.prop
I'm new to the 700t, but so far, this has been the best ROM of the 4 that I tried. It runs good and plays nice with D2D. Thanks.

Am I over here also? I must have missed this thread
I never intended to release this onto the tf300 or tf700 as I don't really have the time to give support on the three threads.
I made it compatible tho as some of my beta testers own the devices and wanted to use it on them also.
Let me know how the ROM works for you and if the new 2.2 release is OK.
Getting Boot Loop
I installed per instructions and it is constantly booting to the ASUS flash screen.
I thought this might be the 30-60 minute "letting the rom casche" as mentioned in the instructions - but it has been doing it for over an hour.
Any help or should I just re-flash TWRP and re-flash my previous rom?

Which kernel did you flash when you whent through the set up?
I first tried the recommended kernel but got stuck on the Asus screen boot looping, so I then tried the stock kernel from the kernel selection and that worked just fine.
Unfortunately any stock kernel other than what is installed with ROM causes the screen to go wack and font to shrink

Check/edit the dpi settings (lcd_density) in /system/build.prop.
The issue is that the kernel offered with this ROM includes the 240dpi lock in init.04.rc and the default Asus build.prop is stuck at 160dpi. So once you unlock the kernel (by using one of the ones in cromi-x like that's or mine) you get 160dpi. Do as_that says and edit the DPI setting in the build.prop to fix.
I have spoken with flumpster about this and he will probably update to allow multi DPI settings to the tf700. Also this version is out of date. 2.2 is out now
I just ordered a refurbed tf300t w/ the keyboard dock. I'm looking to root it and install cm pretty quickly. From what i can gather there are some problems with the 4.2 bootloader and cm. Can some one point me in the direction of a guide to unlock the bootloader and which twrp to install. I figure since its refurbed it's probably on 4.2.
everything on the forums i found is for 4.1 or less. also is there a reason this tablet isnt a stable cm10.1 device?

On this tablet don't get in a hurry for anything. When you verify (absolutely) the bootloader version (ICS(4.0), JB(4.1), JB(4.2 10.6.1.8), or JB(4.2 10.6.1.15.3) then you can begin to read and plan.
Here is a link to many things you will need including the two apps for unlocking the bootloader.
While there don't forget to thank philos64. You will use this thread many times while owning this tablet.

Changed a couple of things, such as TWRP version and flashed CM10.1 instead of the one in the example. All I changed from the guide linked were the files used, based on thoroughly reading other topics first.

I'm partial to CROMi.
I'm afraid rom choice is mostly personal. For my use all versions of CROMi have been solid and you have many options during install to customize as you like.
okay so i just got my tf300t today, I'm on JB 4.1.1. what is the best course of action asfar as stock updates? i dont plan on rooting for a couple days to get used to the stock interface.

My favorite stock rom is 10.4.2.20.
If you intend unlocking and flashing a custom rom you might want to update to the proper bootloader for that rom while you still have stock recovery (not twrp).

Bootloaders have been an issue on this tablet since 4.1 (JB) arrived.
I swap at will between the JB bootloaders using stock recovery - next bootloader up or down.
Yes, be careful! Match bootloader, rom and twrp.
Here are the bootloaders, stock roms, and twrp- now you have to match your custom rom.
4.1 bootloader - 10.4.2.9, 10.4.2.13, 10.4.2.17, 10.4.2.18, 10.4.2.20 - twrp openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob
4.2 bootloader - 10.6.1.8 - twrp openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-tf300t-4.2.blob

I'm in the same position, just got a refurb TF300T. it's currently on JB 4.1.1 stock firmware 10.4.2.20. Is there any reason NOT to allow it to update to the latest firmware?
I haven't unlocked bootloader yet.

hey do you guys have a quadrent score on this cromi rom? im getting about 3600 on the the stock 4.2.1 rom, just wondering if you guys are getting anything better on Cromi? I'm reading up on this pretty good, I'll probably install it some time next week. since this is a refurb i dont want to unlock right away in case of defect.

First I must say I rate roms by how compatible they are and if everything I use works without issues including lag.
The link I provided for CROMi shows a score of 6214 in the first post (op).
I notice there is at least one other CROMi listed which I have not tried. The CROMi by sbdags also provides other kernel options for more speed and other enhancements.
I'm sure someone else will respond with the fastest kernel for this rom as it is very popular.

yeah im noticing a bit of lag on 4.2.1 i dont know if its the rom or hardware, I must say I absoloutly love this tablet. Coming from an og nook color and a kindle fire this is leagues better.
The tablet screen shots on the page are from the tf700, if you look at the build number, so that quadrent score is probably not a good representation of our tablet.
Other than that the stock rom is fine but, I'm always looking for better performance.
For better performance I would reccomend cromi-x it is WAY smoother then stock, but based on stock.

I am going to be selling my Asus Transformer Infinity, so I was thinking about removing the ROM I have installed on it currently and putting the stock one back on it. I was wondering how I would go about doing this and what would be the easiest way to do it?
The ROM I have on it right now is CROMi-Xenogenesis 5.0.3 and the Android version is 4.2.1

Well you can either leave it like that or at least update it to CROMi-X 5.4 It's a pretty stock rom.
If you really must inflict crappy asus stock on the new buyer (why would you do that? - surely they will be unhappy with it), download the latest firmware from the Asus site for your sku and flash the zip inside their zip from your custom recovery.
This will set you back to Asus Stock....

Well, my thinking for going back to stock is that not everyone wants a custom ROM and would prefer stock (I wouldn't...), but I'm now just thinking I'll just update CROMi to 5.4 on it and call it a day. Thanks for the reply though!
