[GUIDE] [TOOL] Rooting the official ICS ROM - LG Optimus 3D

I've tried many different ways and many have failed me, so I'm documenting one way which worked for me.
You will need the Acura recovery
http://www.mediafire.com/?5io5b2r98nt28bb
and gazhead's SU zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1352095&d=1348524309
Preparation
Extract the recovery package
Step 1: Drivers
Make sure you have the OMAP 4430 drivers installed.
If you do, skip this step
Note: On windows 8, you will need to have rebooted your computer into a mode which lets you install unsigned drivers. Do a Google search to find out how.
To install the omap drivers:
Turn off the phone
Remove the battery
Open Windows' device manager
Connect the phone to the PC.
When OMAP4430 appears in your list of devices, double-click on it and select "update driver software"
When asked, pick the usb_drv_windows folder extracted from the recovery package and go through with the installation
When the installation has completed, you should have a new category called "Ti Boards" with the OMAP4430 USB device under it.
Step 2: Installing recovery
Disconnect the phone
Go to the recovery folder and launch "Instalar Recovery ICS Europeo.bat"
The script will be waiting for the phone to be connected.
Press "vol up"
Connect your phone, without any battery
As soon as the script does something, release the button and insert the battery
As soon as the script stops, disconnect the USB cable.
When you see the silver LG logo, connect the USB cable again
The script should complete its task soon after that.
Note: If the script is waiting for something, pay attention to your list of devices, you may have a LG COSMO device which has no drivers. If this is the case, install the OMAP4430 drivers and start the script again.
Step 3: Rooting
Put gazhead's file on your SD card
Turn off phone
Press "vol down" + 3D button + power to boot into recovery
Install the zip file from your SD card
Reboot
That's it. Help me improve this post by reporting any errors you see and I hope this will save people some time

Are you sure that you pressed:
"vol down" + 3D button + power
?
It seems the combination changes depending on the recovery...

I tried this but when the phone rebooted and the script waits for device my phone is at the S/W screen with the korean writing. i didnt want to go any further, is this normal?

Try releasing the vol key before inserting the battery. This worked for me.

fastboot failed to load , try again until you get the fastboot menu , try to press vol- instead of vol+ or even no vol button at all

I cant enter recovery mode
i just installed and then pressed the buttons but it doesnt work
Edit: I rooted by installing TWRP recovery and it worked

Lets say i TOTALLY screw this up.. what is the absolute worst case scenario? Can i brick it or is soft brick worst case?

It can be fixed

Space for Apps
Good evening, the home version of SU760 had 2GB of space for installing applications ... Already the European version of the P920, only has 1GB of internal memory dedicated space .... Is there a way to change this? Well I tried to restore the apps that I had, and gave memory overflow ...
Thanks

Is there any chance of "security error" with this?

First of all tell me about your hd2, what rom is it currently running (stock 2.08, 3.14?) , what radio do you have? Whats your sd card?
All these questions are relevant to make droid work.
I'm not sure if this will work or not. But I had a similar problem when I first rooted my HD2. Under the Android folder, there is a text file: startup.txt
Open it up. The last line I've found typically reads "boot". Now, I don't know if this affects everyone. But after reading for 18+ hours when I first rooted my phone, I remembered reading somewhere that that particular line should read "bootlinux". And I've found that no matter what build I use, if I don't change it to bootlinux, it wouldn't get past the HTC. So try adding "linux" after the "boot". Then try starting it up again with CLRCAD.exe then haret.exe.
Hope that works for you.

I just posted this in another thread to clear some things up for some guys ...... hope this clears up the process for you a bit
............................excerpted from previous post........................................
********BTW i have attached a little template that i use when flashing various roms and storing them on my PC. has task29, HSPL & MAGLDR already in it. all u need to do is go to the xda hd2 master radio thread to grab your appropriate radio and put that into the empty radio file. then find the rom you want to test out and usually the developer will have both rom (obviously) and the appropriate CWM that u should use with it and just put those in their respective empty folders i have in the attached file. that way all the steps below will line up to the files i have attached
OH YEAH, FORGOT... THESE STEPS ARE TO BE DONE AFTER THE INITIAL PREREQUISITES i.e. windows mobile device center, activesync, proper spl version...blah blah blah
--------the following steps 1 - 4 are to be preformed while at the tri-color boot screen (easiest way to reach is to turn off your phone while its connected to your PC then immediately hold volume down button till you see it n wait for it to say usb in the white section).
(by the way your device will ALWAYS automatically restart itself after a couple seconds if it is shut down while plugged in via USB to either a wall/car charger or hooked up to a PC this is normal and a small hiccup either due to the use of magldr or the hspl but dont worry)...cant quite remember
1. run task 29
-double click the only icon in file if your using the one provided by doloop
-wait for it to run and do its thing. when its finished it will automatically turn off your device so be sure to hold down the volume key as soon as it does.
2. install radio
-run the "customRUU" file with the HD2 icon in the radio of your choosing
-it will operate in a similar fashion as the task 29, automatically turning off device upon completion.... down on the vol key
3. install hspl3/hspl4
-run the "HSPL3_PKG/HSPL4_PKG" file. should be the only one in there
-make sure you select 2.08.HSPL in the setup and it will execute itself just like the installers in the previous two steps n turn off your phone... down vol key
4. install magldr113
-make sure your selecting "rom update utility" in the magldr113 file. dont run the "DAF" it wont work properly if you do and youll get errors
-BUT THIS TIME AS IT TURNS ITSELF OFF HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON ON YOUR DEVICE AS IT BOOTS UP UNTIL U GET TO MAGLDR AND CONTINUE TO HOLD IT DOWN UNTIL YOU SEE ABOUT 12 DIFFERENT OPTIONS...
5. install CWM recovery
-go to option 5 "USB Flasher" and hit the green call key. wait a few moments till it shows USB....USB make sure the second usb pops up and your PC recognizes the connection. then when it does sync you get to......
-while still in the usb flasher mode above, simply run you desired CWM recovery which should the one your developer recommends for the builds as the requirements tend to vary from rom to rom.
-this is achieved by selecting the "DAF" file from the clockworkmod recovery your using
-and again this installer will shut off your device upon completion and HOLD DOWN THE POWER KEY LIKE ABOVE TILL YOUR BACK AT THE MAGLDR MAIN MENU (with options 1-12).
6. install rom
-now go to option 8 "AD Recovery" and hit the green call button to enter into the CWM recovery u just installed
-after it loads up (GO!GO!GO!) go down to the "mounts and storage" option that is third from the bottom and hit the call key.
-once there go to the last option "mount USB storage" and hit the call key.
-give your PC a few moments to recognize the sd card for your device and choose to open it when your PC prompts with the regular file explorer or just find it and double click on the newly recognized drive (sdcard) if your PC doesnt auto prompt you.
-now the new drive (sdcard) should be empty (depending...) then just find the desired rom you chose to use, right click on it and copy.....then over to the new drive (sdcard) and paste. might take a min or two depending on the roms size
-once the copying is complete hit the call button to "unmount" your sdcard then the back button on your device till your back at the CWM main screen
-now go to the fifth option down and "install zip from sdcard" and hit the call button
-now select the second option "choose zip from sdcard" and select the zip file you just copied to your sdcard. then it will begin to install the rom and all rom install times vary by build. some take a minute, some seem like they take forever.
-once installation is complete hit the back button till your back at CWM main screen and choose the last option which is to "power off"
-then tap the power button(if u unplugged it from usb otherwise it wil reboot by itself) to turn on your device and give it some time for the initial boot and load as it has to set up everything u just installed. subsequent boot wont take as long but again it can all vary from rom to rom.
-after initial load and a successful bootup you should arrive at ether the lockscreen or a startup screen. give the rom a few more mins to settle and dont hit any buttons. then unlock the device or skip through the startup options and get to the home screen. maybe give it another min to settle the launcher and the last bit of data and resist the urge to mess with the features. your gonna hate this but hold down the power button and select power off device from the popup menu. i know it sucks but it is best practice when flashing roms. after device shuts off wait a few seconds and turn it back on and let it reboot. should be faster this time and when u get to your lockscreen simply give it a few seconds to settle again, unlock and go to main launcher a wait a couple more seconds for it to finish settling and.....have fun! (every time i restart my device for any reason i will always give it a few moments to finish loading up before just blazing away with the apps)
WOW! maybe its not so abridged after all, but oh well tried my best to be as clear as possible so people can utilize their HD2 to its fullest potential.
HOPE THIS HELPS AND IF INDEED I HAVE PLEASE HIT THE THANKS BUTTON

It could be a corrupted zip. Try downloading again, if you've not tried that.

Hi..Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded many firmwares and still no joy.Rather annoying really as its just the last step and really need to finish it off. Anyone having a android firmware I could download? Again thanks in advance.
Finally managed to put android 2.2 on, don't know how but it is on there...but no connection to the internet, it says on the setting for mobile network no connection.
If someone could list how exactly to put android on my hd2 in lamans terms (lol) I would really appreciate it..i.e. what to flash first and so on.
I dont know if you read the following guides but they are pretty awesome. Follow the first link in order to get 2.2 on. I know you said you did it but I would do it again since I dont like starting in between steps, rather do it start to finish. Follow the second link to put another ROM on.

[TUTORIAL][P920/P925][ICS v30A/v30C] A Noob's Guide to XBSA v8/vR3D ROMs with AC!D

April 24: XBSA vR3D is here! Steps specific to VR3D will be in PURPLE. Let me know if there are issues. You need to be on ICS and rooted with custom recovery for XBSA ROMs. His rooted v28B files give you that.
This guide is for Windows 7 (It is almost the same for Windows xp, except in how you choose the omap4 driver).
New! Here are some tips for installing unsigned drivers on Windows 8 (Thanks sda.171!):
I just wanted to add something for fellow Windows 8 users following your guide. By default, windows 8 does not allow driver which are not signed to be installed. You wont even be prompted to force install it. It will deny the installation without your knowledge (this happened to me and I had no clue). In addition to installing every app as administrator. You have to disable driver signature verification on your windows 8 computer.
To do that.
Go to PC settings > General > Under Advanced startup , click restart now > at the boot up screen click 'troubleshoot' > advanced options > startup settings > restart > then press the corresponding number to temporarily disable driver verification (it was 7 for me).
Then do all the driver installing as stated in the awesome guide. If you restart after the disabling the verification is enabled again. It works for only one boot and has to be done again if required (in case you restart after disabling). The verification has to be disabled for successful installations of the drivers u install or else it wont work for you on windows 8.

Thank you also to kideskimo for his guide to ported ics on LG Thrill...
I might still be fiddling with GB if it were not for finding that in December 2012....but this is written for noobs like me!
Thanks to all who are listed here and and anyone else who helped me learn all this!
Thanks especially to xbsall for all the hard work he puts into these ROMs!!!
This guide was MUCH longer until the official ICS v28b for Optimus was released. The official update eliminates a bunch of 'fix it' steps that were previously necessary to keep 3D functionality and other issues; it makes things generally easier to do. So, hit the THANKS button for xbsall here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963847
***OBLIGATORY WARNING: Though worth it, and totally awesome, flashing ROMs to your phone WILL ERASE EVERYTHING. Remove your Micro SD card! Backup your internal SD memory! Save a copy of everything in your internal phone storage that you want to keep! If you make a mistake and 'brick' your phone, it is fixable in almost all situations. BUT, even if you flashed a corrupt file, YOU DID THAT.***
You will need to download 5 files for this process:
NOTE: some of these zips contain system files. Windows Defender and other antivirus programs will prevent some of these from extracting correctly or may cause file corruption.
1) "LGFLASHTool Pack": From here: http://d-h.st/WL2 from me (Called "BagofGoodies").
2) LGP920_110622.dll: Get it here: http://d-h.st/FcP from me
3) Choose one ROM (Do not mirror these links):
XBSA vR3D with Ac!d Audio Engine and Nuance Voice Control:
(DO NOT extract this file): XBSAVR3D.zip:
from here--> https://mega.co.nz/#!Pg5RFTiI!F8dTrFwlNA3JOsngdYY2aAOsjLFtXgEInlndikFtA40
or here--> https://mega.co.nz/#!Cow0xYxJ!OzcVaGvPwAr5TNF2ogsCeTRXQYQ804z05TT_Ns-kqtI
or here--> http://www.putlocker.com/file/1B0B002872D69099 from xbsall
**OR**
XBSA v8 with Ac!d Audio Engine:
(DO NOT extract this file): xbsav8.zip--> http://d-h.st/J9o from xbsall
4) Choose one official LG v28b ICS file (.bin and .fls files included) with root and custom recovery (Do not mirror these links):
For XBSA vR3D get this file:
LARGE partition, rooted official LG ICS v28b with preinstalled TWRP: 28brtlarge.rar--> http://d-h.st/dxl from xbsall
**OR**
For XBSA v8, get this file:
Rooted official LG ICS v28b with preinstalled TWRP (NORMAL partition size): XBSAV28BROOT.zip--> http://d-h.st/Kxn from xbsall
NOTE: You may also install XBSA v8 using the LARGE partition v28B rooted .bin file included in the ABOVE link BUT you CANNOT install XBSA vR3D using the normal partition v28B .bin file included in THIS link.
5) Also get this folder:
You will ONLY need the driver in there for step f.4.4. omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.21.7z--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1536163&d=1354636466. from wkpark.
EXTRAS (Do not mirror these links):
LGE email app for XBSA vR3D:
After installing the vR3D ROM get this .zip file and copy the contents to system/app on your phone using a File Explorer (then reboot): sdcard.zip http://d-h.st/zTO. from xbsall
More languages for XBSA vR3D:
After installing the vR3D ROM get this .zip file and install it with TWRP after installing the vR3D ROM: MULTILENGUAJE VR3D.zip http://d-h.st/wQV. from MarcoSuper7
XBSA Rebooter Tool, Odexed Apps, Wallpaper, and more XBSA vR3D stuff:
Visit xbsall's thread, page 1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963847.
Unpack all zips EXCEPT the zipped XBSA ROM file you chose to a folder on your hard drive.
NOTE: some of these zips contain system files. Windows Defender and other antivirus programs will prevent some of these from extracting correctly or may cause file corruption. Temporarily disable these when extracting any files or you may not be able to find some things you will need!
What else do I need?
***Sync Cable**
A SYNC (not charge) cable is essential. One noob problem early on that I had was not knowing the difference (my phone was second hand and came with no chargers or cables). I could not figure out why the device would not connect. Unless the connector on your phone is physically broken, it is likely the cable is not a sync cable. Not all micro USB cables are the same! Some will only trickle charge your phone and not data connect to PC. If you paid $2 for a cable like me, it probably is not a sync cable. If you have connected to pc before to copy music or other stuff, that is the cable you will need...
**Charge your phone battery!**
You MUST have a well charged battery. Some of the install processes will use a sizable chunk of battery power to implement (~10%). If the battery runs out during any of the install processes, your phone may be rendered unusable!
Now that you have read all of the above and are prepared,
we can begin:
1) Set up drivers so the phone can be detected in LG Flash Tool:
A) Uninstall any LG Drivers on your PC:
a1) Open Programs and Features through Control Panel
a2)Find any drivers called "LG United Mobile Driver." Right click and select Uninstall, let it work.
a3) Reboot your pc!B) Be sure you disabled antivirus/Windows Defender, etc. before unpacking these files.
C) Install OMAP4430 by running "OMAPFlashInstaller."
NOTE: if you have WKPark's custom bootloaders installed on your phone you may need to SKIP running the OMAP installer, or uninstall it if you did run it (if you don't know, you probably don't have it...), but DO link the driver as in f4.
D) Install the two LG Drivers in the “LG United Mobile Drivers” folder: These are “LGUnitedMobileDriver_S497CA20_WHQL_ML_Ver_1.0” and “LGUnitedMobileDriver_S497MA20_WHQL_ML_Ver_1.0” The second one will warn it is unsigned, choose to install anyway (you will have to insist on this a few times here).
E) Reboot your pc!
F) Install PC/phone drivers:
f1) Shut down your phone. Remove external sd card, SIM card and battery.
NOTE: Please be advised that this section (Part 1 here) can be VERY fiddly to do, especially part f6. You may need to do this several times to get it right. Please be patient and keep trying. It is highly recommended to have the volume up on your PC, so that you can hear the drivers installing. Once f6 is done properly you will hear the installation sounds and it will become clear (finally) when everything is correct.
f2) Open Device Manager from Control Panel
f3) Hold volume up on phone and connect to USB port. Keep holding volume up.
f4)Look for "OMAP4430" blinking on and off in Device Manager with a yellow question mark under "Other Devices." (You can let go of the phone). If you do not see it, look for "TI Boards" blinking in device manager and quickly open the arrow. Then uninstall that OMAP4430 (right click, check box to uninstall device and driver, confirm), disconnect phone and reconnect with volume up. Then...
f.4.1) You will need to 'catch' OMAP4430 (with yellow question mark) by right-clicking on it when it appears under "Other Devices." Choose "Update Driver Software."
f.4.2) Pick "Browse my computer for driver software." Then "Let me pick..."
f.4.3) Leave "All..." selected under Devices. Then "Have Disk."
f.4.4) Navigate to the omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.21 folder and choose "omap_winusb" in the usb_drv_windows folder.
f.4.5) Windows will warn the driver is unsigned. Install anyway. An OMAP4430 device should appear under the list of devices. Confirm the selection. Let the driver install.f5) Disconnect the phone from the PC. Again reconnect it to PC while holding volume up.
f6) You should see a popup at the bottom of your screen about drivers installing (the LG USB drivers). (If you do NOT see drivers installing, disconnect phone again, reboot your pc, and again connect it without battery while holding volume up). When you do see drivers installing, let go of the volume button. Click the popup on your PC screen to see the install progress. Let it finish. Leave the phone connected to PC.
f7) Look for “LGE CDMA USB SERIAL PORT” in Device Manager. Right click on it and go to Properties
f8) Select the "Port Settings" tab and click 'Advanced'.
f9) Change 'COM Port Number:' to COM41. Click OK, then OK again.
f10) Disconnect your phone from the PC. Your phone and PC are now ready for the flash procedure. TIP: Leave your PC set up this way, and the next time you need to flash, Step 1 will be already complete!2) Flashing rooted ICS v28b:
A) Install LG Flash Tool by running "Setup_LGFlashTool_1.1." Let install but uncheck the ‘open LG Flash Tool’ box (don’t run it yet). The package comes with version 1.2, but 1.1 is what I used.
B) Copy the file ”LGFlashTool” from the “FILE.ZIP” folder over the file of the same name into the ” LG Flash Tool 1.1” folder. This will unlock the program.
C) Right click on "LGFlashTool," found in the same folder you just copied into and choose "Run as administrator."
D) Check the box that says "Select Manual Mode."
E) Click the "..." button to the right of the "DLL" field, then choose "LGP920_110622.dll" file you downloaded. This file helps Windows to write the correct information to the phone.
F) To the right of the "S/W" field, choose "Add" and navigate to/select "28bROOT_AP.bin." If you are installing XBSA vR3D, instead choose "28bRTbig_AP.bin" This is the official ICS file, but with root access and TWRP recovery.
G) Be sure the button for "USB" is selected. Click OK.
H) Choose the port settings icon that looks like a serial cable.
h1) Check Port 1.
h2) It should select the first 3 check boxes when you do this; "16 Ports," "Port 1 ~ Port 16," and "1" should be checked.
h3) Click OK.I) Click the yellow arrow (start). You should see "Ready!" at the top left.
J) Insert the battery into the phone. While holding the volume up button on the phone, connect it to the pc with the sync cable. The phone should start flashing (i.e. LG Flash Tool will start writing the file). NOTE: if Flash Tool will not connect, try holding volume up, connecting the USB/sync cable, and THEN connecting battery (while holding volume up). Don't touch it until the process is complete. Once Flash Tool resets the device, it is OK to disconnect the phone after 10 seconds or so (let it complete to 100% if you are not sure). FYI: If you continue to leave the phone connected, Flash Tool will eventually say 'failed,' but that's OK.
K) The phone will NOT boot up completely. There may be a message about unsuccessful encryption, OR the phone may stick at the LG logo. Long press power (several seconds) to shut off the phone. Hold Volume Down. Continue holding Volume Down, then also press and hold Power (for about 3 seconds). You should get a black screen with white text about factory resetting. Press power twice to confirm. Let it reset and boot up.
L) Set up the phone (i.e. follow the prompts to start the phone for the first time). If you are installing XBSA vR3D, at this time you MUST go into Android Settings/Storage and ERASE INTERNAL MEMORY. This prepares the internal memory for the large partition size required for vR3D compatibility. Now power the phone down again.
M) Next we will flash the baseband (.fls) file (NOTE: you can also also do this part later, after installing the ROM in step 6). Redo steps 2C through 2J. But replace "28bROOT_AP.bin" with "28bROOT_CP.fls" in LG Flash Tool. If you are installing XBSA vR3D, instead choose "P925_CP.fls" The process of flashing a baseband will NOT complete to 100% in LG Flash Tool (It will say 'failed' after about 40% progress). That’s OK. I got to 155 seconds and it worked.
N) If you have connection problems in your country after setting up your APN (Step 7), you may need to get another baseband from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974734. Download the file you need and repeat steps 2B through 2J with your preferred file.3) Shut down your phone, reinsert your SIM and external (micro) SD, and reboot it. Let it scan the sd card/media, etc. for a few minutes until it is ready.
4) Optional: You can now use an app from Google Play with root access, like Titanium Backup, to backup all the stock apps. This is convenient if you want to recover any of these after installing the XBSA ROM.
5) Optional but Recommended: Use TWRP to make a 'nandroid' backup. You do want to save all the work you have done so far, right? Restart your phone in recovery mode through the P940 Recovery app that is now on your phone. Allow Superuser to proceed if necessary. Your phone will boot into TWRP. Select "Backup" in TWRP. Choose a name and location for the backup, hit enter on the keypad, then swipe the slider to start. Let it backup and then reboot system. You can use this backup later if you want to revert to rooted stock v28b ICS. Just return to TWRP, wipe Cache, Dalvik, do a Factory Reset, then choose Restore and then the backup you made. Swipe to confirm, your phone will be restored to this point.
6) Installing XBSA v8 or vR3D: Doing this step will update your firmware to v30A (v30C for XBSA vR3D) and install the ROM.
A) Now that you have TWRP as the result of all the previous steps, this will be a relatively simple process, but (as in all steps here) you MUST do them in the correct order and NOT skip anything!
B) First, transfer the file "xbsav8.ZIP" (or "XBSAVR3D.ZIP" if you are installing XBSA vR3D) to your phone's sd card. One way to do this is to connect USB as mass storage. I prefer to use the external sd card for zip files. Do not extract the file, leave it in compressed (zip) format.
C) Get to TWRP by pressing Volume Down when the touch keys on your phone blink during bootup
OR
Find the P940 Recovery app on your phone (it was installed with xbsall's rooted v28b). Start it and choose Reboot to Recovery/Yip...
D) First be sure you have the ROM .zip file copied to your phone. Then, you MUST perform these wipes or you will have problems later! Do not reboot your phone after doing the system wipe without installing the ROM or the phone will not boot!!
d1) Select "TWRP Wipes."
d2) Select to wipe "Cache," then swipe the slider to confirm the wipe.
d3) Select to wipe "Dalvik" cache, then swipe the slider to confirm the wipe.
d4) Then select "Factory Reset" and swipe to confirm.
d5) Wipe "System" and swipe to confirm.E) NOW, install the XBSA ROM:
e1) Go back a screen in TWRP (tap the up-pointing arrow icon) and tap "Install"
e2) Navigate to the .zip of the ROM you chose to install (v8 or vR3D) and tap it.
e3) Be sure the correct file is selected (read the information), and when you are ready, swipe to confirm the installation.
e4) When it is finished, tap "Reboot," then "System."
e5) If you did the required wipes, there should be a warning that no system is present. That's OK, it will be installed upon reboot. Confirm the reboot (swipe), let android update, go through the Android first time setup menus, then LET IT SETTLE a bit so all files install properly (5-10 minutes).
e6) Finally, reboot again, and let the phone settle again.7) Set up the APN (Access Point Name) for your network. Now you are basically ready to use the phone without having to do any more major installations, so you can set yourself up to make calls and data connections according to your provider's APN information (in System Settings, More.., Access Point Names, New). You will need to Google this information. Just remember to tap the menu button and hit save after entering the information required by your provider (I use Straight Talk in the U.S. for my AT&T LG P925).
8) Optional but Recommended: Use TWRP to make another backup after you set up your phone as you like.
That’s it! You now have the best available ROM for the Optimus/Thrill because it keeps the 3D functionality and has AWESOME AC!D Audio!!!! And now Nuance gives vR3D some really cool voice control options ripe for modding! You DID buy a P925 or P920 because it has 3D capability, right? Right??? Now go show it off!

Congratulations drastic00 for the time and effort you spent writhing this guide, I really appreciate it. However, are you sure that the 1st step of your guide is correct? If I just install the two “LG United Mobile Drivers”, restart the PC and connect the phone with vol up, there is no driver installed. The device manager shows the OMAP but without driver for that.
Shouldn't we also install the OMAPFlashInstaller (from the LG Flash Tool Package) in order to install the driver (automatically or manually)?
I'm trying two days now different guides to flash .bin roms with no success. I followed the guide which is sticky and I am stuck on the Driver Installation.
The steps 1 to 8 complete normally (installation of the LGFlashTool, OMAPFlashInstaller and the two LGUnitedMobileDriver files).
When I press "vol up button" and connect the USB cable, the computer detects the new hardware (Omap4430) and it is installed automatically (on WinXP) and finally I get the message that the new hardware is ready to use (like this screenshot of the guide).
However, the Device Manager keeps refreshing (and you hear the special sound of detecting/undetecting the new hardware), and there is NO new COM port like in the guide's screenshot, so I cannot locate the LGE CDMA Serial Port and change it to 41 and of course I cannot continue further the guide.

EDIT: I added the OMAP4 steps. Since I was flashing from SU760 based ICS (and again from another v28B based version) I did not need to have it installed. If someone could tell me WHY, I would LOVE to have this information.

Are you not missing the bit about changing the com port to 41?
d5) Look for “LGE CDMA USB SERIAL PORT” in Device Manager. Right click on it and go to Properties
d6) Select the "Port Settings" tab and click 'Advanced'.
d7) Change 'COM Port Number:' to COM41. Click OK, then OK again.
d8) Disconnect your phone from the PC.
Good job, should help save a lot of repeat questions.
PS. I find it quicker getting to the device manager by pressing both the 'Windows logo' key and the 'Pause Break' keys at the same time. Then just select device manager from the top left.

OK I re-added in OMAP4430 steps. I was not sure if they were needed...I was already re-flashing from v28B when I tried this and did not need the omap driver installed. Probably they are needed if you have not flashed before, I'm not sure. Thanks, I want to try to keep the DETAILS correct.

The OMAP4430 drivers are surely needed in my case at least. Before I started with your guide I uninstalled all LG and OMAP drivers. Rebooted and installed the two LG drives posted on your guide. Rebooted again, connected the phone on download mode (Vol up and USB) and the OMAP4430 device with a question-mark appeared on the Device Manager.
In order to install the drivers for the OMAP device, you obviously need to get them from an OMAP installation or folder. They aren't available when we just installing the two LG drivers, I think.
I am also trying to reflash from the v28b, however I flashed the .kdz before not the .bin, so I didn't need the OMAP drivers before. Also I went from GB straight to ICS v28b without having first the Korean ICS.

I wish I could help myself too with that OMAP installation nightmare but I'm still stuck. The OMAP driver indicates that it was installed properly (both in WinXP and Win7) but the Device Manager is still refreshing constantly, making the plug-in sound, and there are no new COM LG Ports created. I tried it already in 3 computers and it's the same in all 3.

BLU Quattro 4.5 (440D) GSM Recovery+Root
Hello... I got my BLU Quattro 4.5 (D440) a while back, didn't fuzz with it much right off. The Stock ROM was sluggish at best thought there was even an issue with the Digitizer/screen. But this thread was extremely helpful. I am now running Shendu ROM 4.1.2 one of the suggested ROM's above. I tried the other 2 first and they were mostly in Chineese and I had an especially hard time getting them switched over to English. Either way onward to the point. I have put together a few helpful tips-tricks for my experience with this phone and its phoenix transition to an awesome handset. Thats right now this is my daily driver and I love it! See below hope its helpful.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2327417
2. Enable USB Debugging! Go into Apps-Settings-DevOptions - Check box for USB Debug
3. Have original USB cord if handy! I tried with a Samsung OEM cable but no luck getting drivers to stick. Use original is best. (If you have one.)
Plug in USB Cord to PC then Phone and see if windows detects drivers. let it. It wont get the ones u need later, but what it does find is for USB storage. (you can move over your ROM's/Gapps to storage, downloads folder is a good spot).
4. Go to... http://junefabrics.com/android/downloadold.php to get pdanet software. Install it and it will give i the right drivers for ADB support. I used 4.01 to match the android version currently on my phone.
5. Extract the Driver provided from XDA. Put it in a folder with the ADB commands. Or you can get it all here... http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/G...usRootNew.zipn <-- I know this isn't for BLU but, if you extract this to a folder, and also add the drivers extracted to it as well this works! I've done it.
6. Extract the English Recovery to the same folder.
7. Turn off your phone. Hold down Vol up and Power button for about 5-9 seconds. Once you see a green screen let go of both. Screen may flicker then go black but the icons at the bottom will stay lit. You are now in APX mode (nvflash) mode. (as stated above in original post)
8. Check your Win 7 PC device manager. For a Phone device with ADB. If you you may need to update driver with the one that came from XDA, but the PDANet software should make it work.
8. Go to the folder and find Recovery.bat file (may have Chinese in file name. Double click and a command prompt window will pop up with a bunch of unknown characters, wait 5 sec then hit enter. The batch file should take of pushing the necessary recovery through ADB to the phone. It will error if it can't.
9. If completes OK. Push power for 7-9 seconds to power off the phone. Hit power like normal to turn it back on. It will boot up like normal (or it should).
10. USB is still connected this whole time and you can open a command prompt window. Navigate to the folder you placed the Recovery into. Something like user/username/desktop/BLU/recovery..etc)
Type ADB devices....it should show you that is is connected to your device. Then type " adb reboot recovery " and the device should reboot, give it some time.
11. Once in recovery. Best to do a backup of the original ROM & system. that way you can get back into recovery if anything goes wrong and wipe out the problem by restoring and starting again.
After you backup === you can get into recovery without the command being typed in or even being connected to your PC.... By holding Vol up + Power till you see the green screen then let go of power but keep holding Vol up till you see the BLU Products boot screen then let go ===
Clockworkmod Recovery should be on your screen.
you can reboot phone now and get back to original with no changes. Or you can venture into the world of loading ROM's (There in your downloads folder if you saved them in Step 3)
ROM 101
BACKUP-BACKUP-BACKUP 1st thing once in Recovery ...can't stress enough how much of trouble you can keep yourself out of by keeping an original backup.
As I stated before the Shendu ROM + Gapps is running smooth and all features I've been trying are working flawlessly!! Thanks to original post for getting me going. Just thought I'd add my 2 Cents.

[ROOT][FIRMWARE][BOOTLOADER][RECOVERY] RCA Viking Pro (RCT6303W87DK) One Stop Shop!

I am not responsible for anything that happens in your life. Including what happens as result of following steps in this thread.
Hello all. After a long journey here, we figured a new thread would be in order for new comers not to have to read through fifty pages of information. Here you will find firmware to fix or update your Viking Pro. You will also find root methods, bootloader unlock and custom recoveries for this tablet. Lets start with ROOT...
Method 1: Kingroot. Kingroot works on this device. you can find it here. It's pretty straight forward, just download and install the apk and root.
Method 1.5: SuperSu. Kingroot works but it's not the best root out there. once you have root, follow the instructions here and Kingroot will be replaced with SuperSu.
Method 2: Su flash-able ZIP. This method requires you to follow steps in posts No. 3 and 4. Once you have custom recovery installed, You can flash This.
This method is a bit redundant. However, it does allow you to make a completely stock unooted backup of your rom before making any changes.
Check out posts 2, 3, 4 & 5 for the good stuff.
I'm gonna go ahead and thank everyone responsible and If I forgot to mention you, please don't hesitate to tell me and I will correct the situation:
@Bogram (Edited the bootloader so it could be unlocked on x.12.x versions)
@Jacube22 (Duplicated the method from Bogram to make the bootloader on x.9.x versions unlockable)
@vampirefo (Compiled a compatible CWM recovery for us)
@ewilley2008 (Found most of the firmware)
@mayzemay (Initial root thread)

@jerryvail35
@Sir Jaxxy
@Snigglez

@Chainfire (For root)
FIRMWARE
There are two main branches of development for this tablet. It is very important to know which one you have because they are incompatible with each other. I personally bricked my first one with firmware from a x.9.x while mine is x.12.x. How do you check? Simple. In your build number, you can find it in "About tablet" in Settings or in the text at the top of the recovery screen. It's at the end of the number and it will look like 1.12.30, 10.12.20, 2.12.20, 1.9.1, 1.9.5, 10.9.1...etc The number in the middle is the important one.
Steps(Windows): For step 2 you will have five seconds. Preloader mode is only active for five seconds. So read first!
1- Extract the drivers to the destktop and open the device manager.
2- Plug your tablet in as such: turn off the tablet. Plug a male to male USB wire from the computer to the USB port on the tablet. now plug the power wire into the tablet. now very quickly in the device manager locate the new device and right click on it. select "update driver software" then select "browse my computer for driver software" and "browse". Now navigate to the driver folder, select the "CDC" folder and click on "OK" the "Next". The driver should install at this point. Once that is done, unplug the power cable from the tablet.
3- Extract the firmware and the sp flash tools to your desktop.
4- Start the sp flash tools and where it says scatter file loading click and navigate to the folder where you have the firmware and load the scatter file. You will see the firmware get loaded and a checksum check.
5- Once that is done, uncheck the preloader from the list and click on the download button.
6- Plug the power cable into your tablet. At this point the sp flash tool will load the firmware into the tablet. DO NOT UNPLUG ANYTHING UNTIL THE SP FLASH TOOLS SHOWS YOU A GREEN CHECK MARK TO INDICATE THAT IT IS DONE OR YOUR TABLET COULD BE HARD BRICKED AND UNREPAIRABLE.
7- Press the reset button and turn it on. Done!

Bootloader
So the bootloader on this tablet is locked. To unlock the bootloader, in a perfect world, you would usually boot the tablet in fastboot and type the command "fastboot oem unlock" and then follow the instructions on the screen. However RCA did not code in the volume keys in fastboot mode so it was impossible to unlock the bootloader that way. So our friend Bogram edited the bootloader and now the volume keys are not needed. What swell guy eh?
Unlocking your phone’s bootloader completely wipes (formats) your Android phone’s internal memory including applications, contacts, SMS and MMS messages etc.
So what you need is a scatter file like this one and a patched bootloader like these: x.12.x or x.9.x .
You will also need ADB & Fastboot and the drivers.
1- Just like in the FIRMWARE section, install drivers and SP Flash Tools.
2- Open SP Flash Tools and load the scatter file and in the line where you see "uboot" on the right click in the blank field and a window will pop up. select the patched bootloader. Make sure it checked and click on the "Download" button.
3- Now plug the male to male USB cable and then plug in the power. SP flash tool will flash the bootloader and then show you a nice little green check mark.
4- At this point you need to unpack the adb folder from the RAR file and place it in the root of you hard drive(C: ) then open a command prompt and nvigate to you adb folder (cd c:\adb) and leave it there for just a second.
5- On your tablet unplug the power wire, hit the reset button in the back and boot it into recovery mode by pressing and holding the volume up and power buttons together until the RCA splash screen comes up then release them.
6- In recovery, use the volume keys to navigate to "reboot to bootloader" and use the power button to select.
7- At this point your tablet will be in fastboot and your computer should detect it and install the driver. If not, the driver is in the "Android" folder in the driver files you extracted.
8- In your command prompt you left opened earlier, type "fastboot oem unlock".
9-Your tablet will do some magic, summon a demon, banish it to the depths of hell, reboot a couple of times and then it will have a unlocked bootloader.
10- Done. now you ca move on the next post and flash recovery.
Bogram also created a tool that patches the bootloader automatically should you have a different version we don't know about or what not...

RECOVERY
This section depends on a unlocked bootloader. If you did not unlock your bootloader in the previous post, do so before continuing to this one.
So what you need is a scatter file like this one and a recovery.
CWM + Carliv compiled by vampirefo: (x.9.x)Clockworkmod recovery (x.12.x)Clockworkmod recovery
TWRP V3.00 compiled by Neporood: (x.9.x)TWRP V3.00 recovery (x.12.x)TWRP V3.00 recovery(Coming soon)
- Open SP Flash tool and select the scatter file.
- in the recovery line, on the right side in the blank field, click and select your downloaded recovery.
- Click on the download button.
- Make sure your tablet is off, plug the USB cable first and then the power cable.
- SP Flash tool will flash the recovery and show you a lovely green check mark.
- Once that is done your recovery will be flashed.
** The stock system has a file in the system folder called "recovery-from-boot.p". this file flashes stock recovery randomly at boot so with a rooted system, navigate to the folder with a root capable explorer and delete the file so that your new recovery stays there.
** When rebooting from recovery, cwm will tell you to fix root. Don't. Select no every time.
For thos of you who want a file explorer in recovery, You can download this Aroma installer flashable
It's a nice tool to have...
Aroma comes from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108
ROMS
Not yet but soon.....
I'd swear I've seen all this somewhere before... lol
Good job, brother!
Now , let the roms...begin.....
woot ... just in time as I brought my Viking Pro home from Wallyworld Saturday night.
Any thoughts on ADB? I couldn't make it all the way through the other thread and eventually just gave up.... ended up figuring out Kingroot on my own and then just enabled ADB over wifi. Would much rather have a wired ADB solution as moving an APK (I'm a developer, duh) over wifi can be somewhat s-l-o-w.
Any plans to make a thread like this for the RCA Maven Pro (RCT6213W87DK)? It'd be really swell.
EDIT: Actually, with those sources you posted, I actually might be able to do this on my own.

I've got a Maven, and I've already done the porting. I'll be posting a guide tomorrow morning sometime. For now, I've sent you a PM with links to the firmware. Check your firmware version, mine is V36-1.9.21 (as long as you have the "9", you should be ok) The zip file has everything in it, preloader, scatter, custom recovery, etc...
Maven Guide is up, find it here

I can't get the port(s) to light up under OSX. I've tried a couple build.prop changes, plugging in micro usb, usb type a, power connector, and various combinations but none of them appear to trigger registration of a usb device of any kind on the host machine.
I can't even get simple stuff like MTP to work.

Time is my issue but I'm looking at two things. there is a firmware package i found on the Chinese server for a tablet with the model number rct6603w47dk with the same board as the viking pro but with a 8163 instead of the 8127. i think its doable to port over to our tablet. it is android 6. also the maven pro(rct6213w87dk) which is really close to our tablet with the same board but a larger screen, has adb working on it...
You should be getting a reaction through the micro usb port... on windows it shows up as a malfunctioning device.
i get nothing when sniffing the USB bus on my MBP.

I does the same thing on Ubuntu 14.04, absolutely nothing shows with "lsusb" in the terminal, unless it's in fastboot mode. You can use fastboot to flash the device, if you don't have access to a Windows machine...
I tested the new 1.9.3 firmware on my tablet... and it just shows a black screen.
DO NOT FLASH IT. it didn't work

What version of Windows are you running..the difference is the drivers are signed or unsigned.. This matters more on newer versions of Windows.
