Google Navigation suddently stops. - HTC One S

Hello colleagues.
I'm new on this forum and, as others before me, first came to you with an issue and kindly asking for an advice.
Facts:
-I bought a HTC One S, new, sealed, 2 months ago. Since then I made the android updates required/indicated by the phone software. Also, I installed latest update for Maps.
- now on the phone there is: Android 4.1.1, HTC Sense version 4+, Software number 3.16.207.4
Issue (which is reproducible):
- few weeks have past and recently I observed a weird behaviour for Navigation:
- after the connection to GPS is made and if few seconds pass, the application ends with a message on the screen: Unforntunately, Maps has stopped, with 2 option buttons: Report and OK. Ofcourse I reported several time this error. This is very frustrating especially when driving.
I have also IGO8 on the phone at it is working fine, it connects to GPS fast enought, no problems.
I tried, as other forums stated, to uninstall Maps updates, to restart the phone. I did not reseted to factory defaults yet.
Did anyone encountered this issue in the past? If yes, what should I do?
Thanks in advance for your time and support.
Best Regards,
Adrian

Try going to settings, scrolling down to apps, clicking on all, down to maps. Clear Data and Clear Cache. Uninstall and reinstall. Maybe that will work...

Sv: Google Navigation suddently stops.
Uninstalling and/or clearing cache won't help. This is a known error on many many One S's when using a JellyBean rom. Google and thou shalt find.
You can stop it from crashing by tapping the compass symbol while in navigation mode. This switches to the 2D mode which for some reason works just fine.

In deed, your proposal works. In 2D, the Navigation does not crash, in 3D - always.
Is there a way to activate the compass in 2D? The major drawback of the 2D is that the map is "not layed in front of you" as it is done in 3D.

Google Navigation causing reboots

It seems latest update to google maps is causing phone to Reboot. The phone is rebooting within 1 or 2 minutes after opening Google Navigation.
Here is the logcat. After rebooting there is a message which says new Sim Card added and phone must reboot and phone again reboots .
The phone is rebooting only when I start Google Navigation.
I tried to kill app -> clear data -> Uninstall -> clear dalvik cache -> reinstall from Google play store but no help!
I agree with you. Having the same problem. Using stock Ics rom
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
I had the same problem with Google Maps. I'm guessing they are related since Navigation uses Maps.
I just went to Manage Apps and uninstalled the recent update to Google Maps. Haven't had a reboot since.
Been facing the same problem. Any feature of Google Maps, be it Navigation, Location History, etc. causes the phone to reboot within a minute of use.
I had to restore the previous version to continue using the app.
Hope Google fixes this soon
Installing old version fixed issue for time being. You can find it here.
Same issue on my HTC Sensation, using 6.9 for 10m now with no reboots.
Also commented about this issue on Play Store
Same problem here...stock everything...
But it seems that I've managed to resolve the issue by uninstalling updates, then reboot (by powering off and with small pause to power back on), then install update again.
No crashes since then (for now)...post if it works for you...
had this happen today too.. good thing i wasent on my motorcycle.. this bug made me miss part of my movie i was going too.. =/

Uninstalling the google maps app updates seems to fix this problem.

[Q] Jelly Bean update - navigation crash maps stopped working

After the Jelly Bean update from T-mobile (running this custom ROM) whenever I try using google Navigation, I am seeing this message after a minute or less: "Unfortunately Maps has stopped working." Then the graphical display stops working, although it appears that Navigation itself still works in the background (I still get audio updates). Turning navigation into 2D mode (by pressing the compass icon) seems to resolve the issue.
Has anyone else had received this error since updating and if there's anything else that can be done to fix Navigation (3D mode)?
I've had that same issue for a while now not just on that ROM. I had it when I was running CM10.1 as well.
Sent from my HTC One S
I'm having the exact same problem and my phone is stock. Never had an issue until the JB update, and my wife's stock One S does not have the issue even post-update.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling Maps and Search wondering if it had something to do with Google Now, but that hasn't helped. Not sure what else to try short of a factory reset, but I use the nav somewhat frequently and it's pretty annoying to rely on the audio only.

Mr. Smooth, You can still use Navigation, just in 2D mode by hitting the compass icon in the upper left.

Appreciate the tip. I will try that next time out. :good: Would still like to see a fix soon though.
This is so weird.
My friend has the problem on their device and I have tried navigation for over a hour of driving a day for a week and can't replicate the problem.
Is it with any specific settings maybe or something? I do have 3d on too not 2d.
I am using a stock rooted rom on the phone from the recent T-Mobile update.

HTC ONE M9 Prime camera edition - cant use camera.

Hi, I have 3 weeks old HTC ONE M9 prime camera editon, everything was fine until today, when phone starts to lag incredibly. I did full factory reset, set up phone from begin, it works few minutes good and then starts lag again. The main problem is with camera, when I open camera app its nothing, camera "moving" normally but I cant press anything, no reaction from phone, can't take a photo, change setup or even go back to home screen, only need to lock it and unlock again. Have you got similar problems and got any solution of this ? I do factory reset, clear partition cache etc. Phone is totaly stock yet, 3 weeks old.
Same
I got the same, but still have any solution. But what is intriguing is that works fine if using WhatsApp camera, Instagram or any other application that doesn't use the regular camera application.
If anyone finds out how to solve this, please help us
I did full wipe twice, after that camera works fine 10 minuts, when phone finish update he's apps it stops working again. Tried to uninstall all possible apps but still nothing. I will contact with HTC today and let you know.
HTC have problem with apps updates in Google Play. They still working on repairs. Do Hard Reset and stop auto update in Google Play.
problem solved ! need to uninstall HTC PNS and HTC SPEAK updates, then force stop camera app, clear data and cache, restart and its work again.

Very interesting I have the same problems, but how can you uninstall HTC PNS & Speak ? I can see them but I can't uninstall because they might be system apps

Blurred Game Apps which normally aren't blurred (didn't test non-game apps)

Just as title. It just started happening earlier today, which I'm not sure what could've caused it. (no falls or anything today in particular)
The blur is the exact same as Goodlock's blur feature when you opened the status bar (if you enabled it). I tried disabling it but some (yes not all of my games) stays blurred.
What I did earlier were reboot, which somehow fixes the blur. But at the same time, a different game app is blurred. More reboots and sometimes theres even less blurred games, and sometimes almost all of them are blurred.
Does it mean hardware failure?
hi, i am having the same problem. all my games are blurred on S6 Edge FB etc is fine

hi, i am having the same problem. all my games are blurred on S6 Edge, but the likes of facebook and twitter are fine. i hope a solution happens fast!!
Hello. All my games are blurred too. It started two days ago. Rebooting doesn't help. Clearing cache doesn't help. I also uninstalled and reinstalled one game to see if that would help and it did not. I downloaded a brand new game and was able to play it just fine and then shut it off and this morning when I turn it on, that game was also blurred. I contacted my phone service provider yesterday as I figured it was something wrong with my phone, and they couldn't figure it out either. I've been Googling for an answer so if somebody has one out there, please, please, give us the answer on how to fix this.
Fixed mine
Hi mate, i cleared all my phone and boosted cache. Then turned it off for around 30mins then turned it back on it worked fine
Thanks
Scott
Same issue to me too

I am also having this issue in my S6 with some games and apps.
The only way to solve it is to fully reboot the device.
When it is up again I have to open the game inmediatelly.
If I open something else first, and then the game, it becames blur once again.
Fixed blurred games.
I found another thread on this site with a suggestion and it worked. Of course now I can't find that thread but found this original thread. Anyway, here's how I fixed it. Go into settings, application manager, game optimizing service and then click on more, and undo updates. After doing this it was still blurred so then I did a force stop on the game optimizing service and then everything worked again. All my games are clear and functioning normally.

If I could put up 100 Thanks, I would. This was driving me crazy for two days. The annoying thing is I don't have Google set up to auto update ANYTHING, so I thought it was potentially a hardware issue. Must be a Samsung app update... I'll have to freeze the Samsung app service, I think...
To Dalmus
You're welcome, but thanks really needs to go to Ekrezem and PiperTim. It was on another thread here at xda-developers. I appreciate when solutions are made in clear terms for those of us who aren't as tech savvy. That's why I made my post step by step clear. I hope it helps a lot of people.
I applied the same solution, but my GOS keeps auto-updating, and auto update is turned off! Is there a way to stop this nonsence? Is there an official forum or something where we can report it??
Blurry games on S6 edge v6.0.1
My question exactly: did all recommended. Cleared cache, cleared that other thing with a reboot (pressing on/off, volume up, home button) managed to play one game with no blurry image but it started all over again...
I have a Samsung s6 edge v6.0.1
All help very much appreciated

Exactly! Since the 28th march this nonsense is on.... anyone have already solved it?
Found a permanent solution
I've found a simple solution, no wipe cache no reflash, no nougat upgrade etc
All you have to do:
1. Update game optimizing service via galaxy apps store (and dont ever clear data or uninstall)
2. Install samsung game tuner via google playstore and set default to maximum quality (don't forget to save your settings) and restart. You can uninstall this after.

Orientation sensor frozen

I'm using a Pixel, still on Android 9, and my orientation sensor (and accelerometer) have suddenly stopped working. However, it appears that it's a software issue as the auto-rotation still works when in Safe Mode. I've uninstalled every app that's been updated in the past two days (roughly when I think this problem began) but it's still a no-go. I've also installed a sensor test app and I find the sensors do work initially on boot, but freeze after 5 seconds or so.
Any ideas of how I might fix this?
Clear system cache.
You update, install or uninstall any apps recently?
I tried clearing the cache but it didn't change anything. I also uninstalled all the apps that had recently updated, restarting the phone each time, but the sensor is still frozen unfortunately.

Factory reset time...
I have the same problem also with Pixel 1 and it happened on the same day (Oct 20)! The difference is I'm on Android 10.
After factory reset and backup restore it works.
After updating all apps, it still works.
After restart once all apps are updated... No work.

Roll back to factory settings, one by one and find the culprit(s). Sounds like a rogue 3rd party app.
Once I have a device running well I almost never update anything. I'll run on the factory loaded versions for years many times. Result, no issues.

Thanks for the help! How do I do this?
The return to factory settings is in the app under settings.
You can try uninstalling it otherwise.
I don't see that option all the time and you may have to hit uninstall for it to appear.
A forced stop might be enough for troubleshooting.
Typically I use my package disabler for things like this.
So I've done a factory reset with no restore (to keep it clean). Updated every app individually and restarted the device each time.
Updated GOOGLE MAPS. Rebooted.
Presto! All sensors are now locking up and battery starts burning away.
Disabled Google Maps, cleared cache + data, and rebooted. Problem did NOT go away. Now I'm doing one more (hopefully last) restore and will disable Google Maps right away.
Wow... did not expect it to be Maps...

I'm not, Gmaps updates are a back street abortion.
So it was the update that trashed it?
I always keep gmail and maps on the factory load version. Invariably updates make them less user friendly on a Samsung
I set Playstore settings for auto updates by wifi only.
I always keep wifi disabled, effectively preventing any auto updating. I also firewall block and disable Playstore unless I need it. It's a background pocket hog.
Updates generally cause more harm than good if the app is already running well...
I have the same issue, and after guessing which app was causing the problem I found out it's the Google app. I disabled it and all the sensors started working back and also automatic brightness. Also I tried leaving the beta updates of the Google app and whenever the Google app is active the sensors stops working. Probably Google trying to kill the pixel 1 or a new function conflicting with the sensors
Oh my god! I have the same issue! Stock Android 10.
Sensors work fine on Safe Mode, but on normal mode they sometimes don't work.
Same problem here, since a couple of days ago, some sensors (gyro, light, accelerometer, compas) stop working after a couple of seconds after reboot. I factory reset my pixel, I tried uninstalling GMaps, I tried deactivating Wifi and Bluetooth,... but nothing is working.
Proximity sensor still work though.

Have you tried disabling Google app as mentioned by cristejeda33 above?
I have the same issues, it happens when one or more apps get updated, don't now which one is causing it exactly, but the issue goes away after the next update, and comes back at the next update and so on ..., features like, adaptive brightness, tap to wake, lift to wake, display rotation os and in camera, youtube video rotation....... stopped working and the battery is draining a lot faster. thinking of getting rid of the good old pixel ..

I stopped the services from the Google app and the sensors started working. And kept on working for some time after that. They keep stopping and coming back.

Try disabling Google play Services... just a wild guess.
It's a dependency or a parent app of Google App that's maybe causing the trouble. These can be hard to ferret out... play with it.
You could just go shotgun and revert all Google apps to factory load version -if- it wasn't a system wide firmware update that triggered it.
I've experienced this too many times, updates break things.
On my N10+ I lock down all updates, especially firmware. I'm rarely updated anything because it causes trouble. Result is a very fast and stable operating platform with minimum maintenance required. When there is an issue it's much easier to track down as the system is a known and familiar quantity. My current load is over a year and a half old... still running strong.
Wife and I are using OG Pixels and a couple of weeks ago we both noticed massive battery degradation. Then we both realized that auto rotate is extremely slow as are a bunch of sensors. Skymap doesn't track anymore. Both our phones also get extremely hot.
Google brought us here and we see that stopping the Google app makes the sensors work normally again. Lots of issues being reported in the playstore for this app also. Would love to hear if anyone has made any headway working around this or are we screwed until an update comes out?
What's the best way we can report this to Google publicly? And put the link here
All accelerometer, compass, gyroscope and proximity sensors turned off a few days ago on my og pixel and after disabling the google app all the sensors are working again.
I had a look on the play store and the last update for the google app was on the 21st October, which is exactly when it broke.
I disabled google maps first, then the google app, then sensors worked, so i re-enabled the maps app, I then cleared the cache on the google app and re-enabled that too, and all is still working.
Thank you very, very much for finding the cause of this, I was about to factory reset the phone and then have to reload everything which may or may not have worked anyway. Your efforts are much appreciated, long may your technology function correctly.
