Multi Tasking - Music Player and browsing - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi,
First of all, I read the rules and it says Tricks, Tips and questions.
So I'm posting my question in this forum.
I do not know if this correct or not. If I asked my question at the wrong place, then, please move my thread to the correct place.
Thank You.
I have the Verizon SGS3. I'm coming from the iPhone world and in the iPhone world, If I want to listen to songs, I open the ipod and I select any songs and they will be playing and I can come out of it and start browsing in Safari.
But in SGS3, when I'm trying to do like that it is not allowing me to do that.
I want to listen to music and browse at the same time. Is it possible in SGS3?
If yes, can You please tell me how to do it and which player should I use to play songs?
I have my songs in MP3 format.
Technical Information about my phone.
STOCK ROM
4.1.2
rooted with Super SU#
Thank You.

Any answer please.
I did some googling and found out that this is not possible in Android.
Seriously... Android does not have multi tasking other than the video playback??
Was trying to find any other apps or Custom Roms or there might be a work around if possible.
Thanks.
qzmpal.

Have you tried to press the home button after starting the music? I don't know how it goes with the stock audio app as I use poweramp, but you can multitask the ish out of your phone.. I often use poweramp, tapatalk and chrome, switching between them by holding the home button

I check Twitter, fb, surf the web, play ingress, minecraft, etc while listening to music. My phone is probably playing music 12+ hours a day.

Not sure what you mean. I listen to music on Google play music and Pandora all the time while browsing and messaging.

This sounds like the problem to me. Use the back button to back out of (and kill) the app. Use home to leave it active and in the phones memory.
I regularly listen to music (Pandora, stock player, play music) and flip between kindle, browser, xda, facebook, messaging and other apps and there has never been an issue.

I 'stress test' my phone and have ended up playing music while playing a game (cut the rope) then switching out loading a webpage while checking gmail without any issues....I'm thinking you're accidentally killing the music app as opposed to letting it run in the background. Music app I use is playerpro and I'm running cleanrom 6.2 on my galaxy s3.

Do yall think the OP is referring to the browser? Cuz I can't see how their phone isn't multitasking music properly.

may be a real dumb question, but in the stock music player, you're not hitting the Menu then the "end" option to get out of the app right?
Like I said, may be really dumb suggestion , but its all I could think of. You should have no issues listening to music and doing what ever else you want on the phone.

"podcast" app?

this isn't really specific to the DX, but it's what i have so i'm asking here:
i'm looking for an app that will play really long mp3's (like hours long... like a podcast) and, more specifically, will remember where you are in the podcast when you quit the program and start back up at that point when you want to start listening again.
currently i'm just using the native music app and i have to try and remember myself where i left off in a podcast and manually skip ahead to that point every time i need to stop and then come back to a particular file.
thanks for the info!!
I've been using Google Listen for audio podcasts

I like .podkast. I download and listen to them with it.
Carcast. You can search for, download, and listen to podcasts in it. It remembers where you are in the podcast and restarts it from where you left off. It's also free...
Stitcher is the best podcast app it seems to have everything

Check out PodTrapper. I used this app all the time when I had a Blackberry. When the dev came out with the Android version, I made the switch over to Android.
It's a powerful app that I use on a daily basis.

Beyond Pod works great
Doggcatcher. best podcast app there is. and it's temp on sale with funds going to support Japan.
Listen....
Ive used pretty much all of them (except for DoggCatcher, because it aint free...)... Heres my humble opinion:
For almost one year, i used aCast, in my rooted HTC G1 (CyanogenMod 6.1), worked fine, until out of the blue, stopped catching...
I have to say, i ONLY use it to download and listen to TWiT casts... ive also been looking for an entertaining podcast featuring alternative punk rock music, but havent been sucessfull (suggestions are appreciated).
After aCast, i went on trying mostly every single podcast catcher i could...
Hapi Podcast worked awesome on my Droid X for maybe 4 months, i actually rated it 4 stars and an inspiring comment, and then.. poof... no synching..
Ive been happy now with Google Listen... Its the most simple of them all, plus, it syncs well with google reader on your pc. It remembers where you left on all your casts.. (well i usually sync down oly 5 or 6, and it does remember the part where im at, every time)
Google Listen seems to be my the app for the job.

[Q] Given Priority to Winamp instead of Google Music? (non-rooted)

So when you hit play from a bluetooth device it seems to be pure luck as to which player will start on android.
Is there anyway to alter this behaviour? The phone in question isn't rooted, and won't be. Since this is the case I can only remove the updates to the Music player, but it's still there and will randomly take priority over winamp.
I've always experienced this no matter what media players I'm using. Sometimes it will just start playing on the regular app instead of the app i want

The Solution is: Install old winamp 1.1.1

This is Music Junk by the way, great app for finding new music. You can stream or download the tracks. It was pulled from the market a while back.

RE: [Q] Free music download app?
While it certainly isn't a low key app I really like Google Music, you can use their storage space for streaming or downloading per device. They offer up free mainstream music for download from the web app-- it seems to get added to and changed quite often so you never know what you might find and you can use their app to stream or download based on what you want to have on your phone, tablet, or watch (MotoACTV rooted). They also have a good store if you can't find the song you want for free. I've read that a search for Free Music Download.apk is also good, but I can't recommend it as it sounds like they may not be legit so at any point *poof* their stuff is gone. MxTube leveraged YouTube and it was great for iDevices in case you're looking for something on a jailbroken iDevice.

I also use Google Music, works great for me.
Anyway, it's not for downloading mp3, unless you buy the music.
You can try GTunes from market for that.
I and my fiance love Rhapsody!! I can download for offline listening when I am on my wifi, and I love the subscription to listen to everything without having to buy anything.

Is it a free app? When it was in the Play Store, was it a paid app?
Would also check out GrooveShark. Pretty sure the app is free if you are only streaming music... tho if you setup a subscription you can offline music and play when you dont have an internet connection.
Use it every day. Pretty sweet!

Google now launcher question

So I have a very stupid question / possible coincidence. I've had this come up once or twice already. Since obviously the Google now launcher does the okay Google hot word, is it also possible for it to identify music as well as the hot word automatically? In both previous cases I was listening to music on another device but had my phone on the home screen. When I go into google play music it has recommendations at the top based on said music I was listening to despite me not listening to that music in play music for a few days. Is this just a coincidence? My odd imagination? I just find it really weird.
Thanks.
P.S. I should clarify that by other device I mean the factory no frills radio in my car.

It's probably just using the information from your last visit to the Play store. If you think about apps's that are made for recognising music songs, doing something like this via a Google search bar it would make the app rather large? I'm sure it's a small file size?
I might be wrong, but I'm guessing it's just remembered from the last time you used Play store, it could be coincidence if you listen to popular songs.
Tapatalk (application) is an android app that allows you to connect at several forum sites. It combines data and it is used by many users because they can switch forums very easily.

Apologies for the delay. Yeah, I guess it is a coincidence. I tried today to trigger it intentionally but didn't get it to happen this time. Just seemed odd though the first time around. Odd in a good way, anyways. I happen to like all the Google smarts and integration rather than fear it, personally. Not enough hours in the day these days to accomplish everything so the more assistance I can get, the better.
Thanks again for the response.
Hi, as yo can see, this will be my first post so......be gentle.
About you question, i think that the suggetions come from the info that you music player gather about the music you listen to, you can see if your music player "sees" what are you listening in senttings>apps> -your music player- >permissions.
I hope that you found this helpful. =D

Music Player

Question for you guys...
I stream music from my phone while I work out, using Amazon Music. On my AW watch, once music is playing, it is always on the active watch face (change track, volume, etc). On the Gear, if I open the music app, I get the same features (even the cover art), but when the face times out, the app closes. Is there a way to get it stay on until I close it? It's handy to have running while I am working out.
Thanks!
I'm not sure if this helps, but my BeyondPod podcast app stays on my S3 music player widget after I initiate it on the paired S6 phone. Have you tried using the music player widget?

I have not, I'm more familiar with Android Wear. I will see if I can figure that out. You mean set it as one of the programs you can quickly access from the bezel?

Yes there's a music widget app. I have mines set up to be the first widget from my watch face for easy access. Any time you play music from your phone from mostly any app it will show up controls for it. Weather its the stock music app, YouTube, Spotify, play music, or SoundCloud to name the few I use it will show up. Just go all the way to the right of your watch fave with the bezel scroll and it will have the option to place a new widget and just hold the widget when place to move it around

This!! Music controls are essential. I also went from AW and this has been my biggest issue. I would have loved the watch to keep the app open, any app for that matter, until I chose otherwise.
My "fix" has been to add the music player app to open with the double click action, but it's still a pain.
Also, rotating the bezel to skip songs instead of volume, seems kind of redundant in my eyes, as there are already buttons for that on the screen.
so if I am tracking, you have to rotate to the widget each time you want to manipulate the music? am I getting it right? there is no "stay active" portion of the music player?
thanks all

It really shouldn't be that difficult either. I'm new to Tizen, but as far as I can understand, it was a feature they removed.
This doesn't really help solve the issue, but another way to get to the music player quickly is to swipe down from the top (12 o'clock position) of the watch face to get to the "quick settings." There you will see a music note - touch it and it brings up the music player.

Thanks While it's nice to have a shortcut there, you still have to navigate to that button every time, which is a hazzle. It seems we just have to wait till Samsung hopefully brings an update to fix this.
request it as a feature through samsung's help system, this can be found in the Samsung gear app in the help options.
i requested it there before I found this thread.

Thank you! :good: Didn't know they had that. Do you think they will actually listen?
big companies only listen to big noise, so it's unlikely they'll do anything unless more people suggest this.
thephonus directed my attention to this little tool in another thread: http://apps.samsung.com/gear/appDetail.as?appId=suQANKUenM
it's a decent temporary solution, while active it disables the standby/AOD timer.
you should be careful though, as it also prevents burn-in protection from activating (shifting pixels, low light)
