So this morning I woke up to my phone refusing to power up again, and also have lots of random shutdowns that require me to pull battery before powering back on. I have narrowed it down to the only culprit causing this being an aftermarket extended battery as my oem battery, although it was dead, powered the phone up and accepted a charge via the charge indicator staying on instead of blinking. Anyone else experience this?

What battery are you using? Is it knocked off ones from ebay?
You can try and buy the oem battery, mugen or chichi batteries.
OROROR its possible that Ur having random issue that some people are having resulting many bricked g2s. There is a thread in general section called e:log/ something like that
Mine was bricked compeletely
Was running cm7 fine for about a week
Then it was cuasing random freezes and had to pull battery to get it working again
Now careful with what you do or u will brick urs like mine
Can u connect to the charger and open hboot or access to recovery?
If you do using adb reflash recovery..
Thisis what I did and ended up with bricked g2
I was tried of getting random freezes(I never overclocked it)
Booted into recovery did factory reset and got e: log/recovery or something like that( buch of em)
Then I flashed new rom
Rebooted got stuck at htc logo for 20min
Pulled battery...it never turned back on. No hboot or recovery no adb nothing.

Aftermarket batteries are often cheap knockoffs, and are infamous for failing quickly. I've seen a post on here by a person that purchased 3 from eBay, and all 3 failed within 2-3 weeks.

+1 if your really looking for extended after market batteries go with chichi or mugen. People are getting great results. They are a bit pricy though.

Its not non sense lol. It happened to me, no need to panic, leave the battery in unless your CWM is updated to the latest version whereas you don't boot into recovery while charging.
If its updated to the latest CWM:
1. Put back your OEM battery or any other battery that will boot up your phone.
2. Go to ROM Manager and go to a previous recovery version before the the fix for charging and not going into recovery.
3. Let it flash, and then pop back in your extended battery.
4. Plug in your USB to your computer. Let it go into recovery.
5. Type "adb devices" your phone should appear.
6. Then type "adb reboot"
There it should be fixed now. If your CWM isn't to the latest, you can skip the flashing to older ones.
Lol the nonsense is my signature on my phone, meaning my phone is a non-sense phone lol
Its been working fine all day, just drops calls in the same area so no different. I haven't tried the am battery since, but when it was plugged in the orange charge led was blinking, and would act differently when power button was pressed. Put oem battery in and no power, but the battery was dead. After ten min it powered and booted right up.
Mostly I am concerned and made this thread because my previous g2 bricked and wondering if the battery messed up volatge or something because the phone got a little hot before it locked up and bricked. I was reflashing roms and I did it 20 times before and never had a problem so its not like it was my first time. Totally weird.
Nonsense!
Yeah it happened to me like twice. I just pray that when I have to do a battery pull when I'm out it this problem doesn't occur lol. Well yeah the orange light blinks cause of the new CWM. If it was on the old one with no fix, it would stay orange and go into recovery. At first I thought the same until I put a different battery back in and booted, so I thought the battery was now defective, so I went back to eBay and purchased 2 more. After a week of the purchase I tried those adb commands and it fixed it. So now I have 3 extended batteries lol, it kinda messed me up since I had to pay for a new one .
Just wanted to say after almost a week on the oem stock battery since my failure, I have not had issues with my phone shutting down, random rebooting attempts, or a need for a battery pull. No pulling the phone out of my pocket and it is blank dead and useless unless I pull battery.
I'm assuming that the battery was my problem. How? I don't know unless it was a voltage issue? If anyone wants my am battery to just mess with it, you can have it for free just pay shipping.
Nonsense!
You can buy 1450mah Droid Incredible 2 battery or the Evo Shift's 1500mah battery.
EDIT: Just got the Sprint Evo Shift battery in. It will need to be modded and sanded down a bit. I was in a hurry so I just sanded it down with the sticker still on it.. after about 5 minutes of that, some clean up with goo gone and alcohol, I have a working 1500mah battery straight from HTC.

Hi. I have a S-OFF'd, T-Mobile USA Sensation, Im using Leedroid Sensational 1.0 (cwm 4.0.1.5). My phone died, I tried to reboot it, it did turn on for a few seconds. When trying to charge it, it flashes the led light quickly, progressively becoming slower, then the screen flashes white then sits at a blank, black screen for a few seconds, then seems to turn off (screen turns off and led light stops showing up). The device doesnt get hot, so it cant be the charger overheating. I also cant boot into HBOOT. Any ideas?
EDIT: Left it on the charge all night, still does not turn on, it's got to be that the charging issue is still present (or actually, worse) in CWM 4.0.1.5.
EDIT2: I have tried rebooting it via adb, but the computer doesn't detect it.
Do u have cwm 4.0.1.5

Yes CWM 4.0.1.5
Mine did this out of the box, I'm just now trying to get something out of it. Otherwise this pos is going back to htc...
Its worth mentioning that there is a red infared type light above "htc" that fades with the red l.e.d.

Yes, I have the same issue as of this morning. After installing new CWM. It was charging fine before. Last night I let the battery discharge completely and had it on the charger all night.
When I woke up the LED light was off. Upon unplugging the charger and plugging it back in the LED light blinks (orange) a few times and then it goes off.
I can't turn the phone on at all.
EDIT: Looks like it's the issue with the latest CWM. Here is another thread with the same problem.

Think this would work? It charges the battery externally.
Yea it would work externally, provided your battery is ok... Buy a battery just to be sure. They have always come with atleast a trickle of charge in my past experiences. If it boots, flash the stock pyramid ruu. If not, id say either the new battery is dead (rarely) or your sensation is dead. Or buy an external charger, then send it for repair.

Reading other users posts, I think this is an issue from CWM 4.0.1.5, not a hardware issue, but thanks for letting me know.
Im currently rocking the same setup thanks for letting me know about this ill keep an eye on my battery life. Until ClockWorkMod fixes itt
Yup same issue here. Will be buying new battery and/or battery charger to resolve.

I bought a few batteries and an external charger just in case my battery is also fried, although be aware that most of them on the net look like cheap china batteries, so they probably aren't actually 1600MAh.
I honestly think this is BS. It's costing me $16 just to get my phone to boot, I hope Koush or someone else can actually fix the charging issue by CWM 4.0.1.6.
Definitely CWM issue. If your battery is completely discharged, as mine was this morning, here is how to charge your battery without the phone.
It does work. I just charged mine enough to boot up.

Well it looks like my sensation just killed itself and has gone to the mobile phone graveyard in the sky.
It was on about 85% battery just lying on the side, not charging, then suddenly the screen flashes, it turns itself off and then nothing.
I take the battery out for a while, put it back in , nothing. I connect the charger, it doesn't even light up to suggest it's charging.
Absolutely dead and it's 100% stock with no mods.. Oh well. Off to the HTC shop tomorrow..
Maybe the battery is completely dead. Try charging it for an hour, unplug the charger, and see if you could turn it on.
Can you get to the bootloader?
Try holding down the power button longer. Mine used to require a very long press to turn on.
Matt
held power button for 5 minutes and nothing lol
It had 85% battery then woosh.. a flicker.. and nothing
Sorry to hear that.. keep us updated.
Sorry to hear.. that suxx.. R.I.P poor Sensation
that's a sensational headline
Maybe it overheated. A friend's thunderbolt overheated and wouldn't turn on for almost 3 hours.

Well done HTC you done it again.
I think mine just did the same thing. WTF? I am rooted, flashed Android Revolution HD 1.1.7. Everything seemed fine. It reloaded all of my apps automatically and everything was fine. Was messing around in my office and went to check it and I was getting the "black screen" when I tried to wake it. Pulled the battery and it won't come on at all. Can't get into the bootloader or anything. Have it plugged into my computer with the USB and the LED indicator was flashing a few times, my computer recognizes it off and on but it has alerted me a couple of times now. Weird. I will leave it off for a little while and see if I can boot it back up.

I have the same situation with my phone. I also added the black and white circle batterymod from themes and apps section. I got it to boot when its on wall charger. Seems that itdrained the battery from about 75% to 0% in about 7 hours of idling when I was sleeping, luckily the alarm still worked, but the screen didn't go on before wall charging.
Hope this helps. Going to flash some other ROM, god I miss CM7.

That sounds like mine, apart from the charging bit
Took it to the HTC shop and they have to send it away to their "techie" people to confirm it's "dead dead" before they will replace.
Should be 10 days, could be 30.
If i'd bought it online from them apparently i'd have more rights and they'd replace on the spot.... nice......
Didn't even get a loan phone and this is one of HTC's "brand" shops, even detailed on their site. (
So not only you can have death grip and unresponsive screen...but now it's the whole phone that die??
How the hell I am supposed to switch from sgs2, I am too scared now

Why do you bother, just stick with your Samsung, I bet you are really happy with that one.
99% of the people here have no problems, so I wouldn't base your choice on this situation

But im hoping someone here can tell me otherwise.....
Was at work last night, playing a game on my phone when the battery got low (6%) so i stopped playing, let the phone sit, looked at it a little while later and it was at 2%, it died before i get out of work, no big deal. Get in my car and my car charger isnt working. My car charger has an extra usb outlet on it so i check that with my ipod and it works, so i immediately assume its the phone off charging issue i had before. Except now im not even getting the amber led saying its even trying to charge. Ive tried my wall charger, usb, pulling the battery and leaving it out for a while and nothing. Ive looked around and this has happened to a few people, but they were all under warranty (which i am not) and got it replaced. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if so how did they fix it?
I had the same problem, are you using a custom recovery? The thing that fixed it for me was to charge the battery out of the phone on my external charger
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
yeah im using a custom recovery but this hasnt happened to me in a long time. I just recently flashed to the latest CoreDroid and (i think) this is the first time my phone has fully died on me since then but im not sure. My girls friend is gonna come over in a little while, she has the same phone as me so ill see if her battery boots my phone up n if so then ill charge my battery then replace the recovery.
Do: take the dead battery, Sim and micro sd card out. Hold the power button for 5-10 sec. Reassemble, connect wall charger and don't touch anything for at least an hour. Restart, phone should boot now.

Probably old recovery with charging issues. Look up threads by vladnosferatu , he posted a revival method ages ago.

Didn't work for me
**** I think the same thing is happening with me.
Okay no, my charger cable was just loose
so, yeah. My phone is officially ****ED. Just put a fully charged battery in it from my girls friends phone, still wont power on :/
This is even more ****ty due to the fact that i have no warranty
ANYONE know ANY way around this?
If i can somehow get HTC to take this back an send a re-furb im deff. selling it and going back to Samsung. This is the 3rd HTC phone ive had thats given me problems.
Interesting. Would be nice to know what caused it. There is a way to check via adb wherever It's alive a bit, but I'm not sure what commands. Try leaving it with battery out overnight for now.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
my computer wont even acknowledge my device never mind adb. Im close to just breaking this damn thing
I've got stuck with this issue on a couple days ago. When I try to plug the charger an LED light will blink all the time and the phone can't turn on, so I left it for about 5 minute(LED still blink all the time and I can't turn it on). After that I pull a charger from the wall and plug it again at the different plug, then an LED light turn normally orange not blink anymore. After a few minute I've tried to turn it on and it work again!
Why no warranty? Don't HTC have at least one year warranty? The phone hasn't even been out that long. HTC fixed my HD2 under warranty even though it was over13months after I bought it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Got a hold of HTC. My phone is still under factory warranty gonna send it out tomorrow to have it fixed, the phone doesnt even turn on so im hoping there will be no way for them to find out its rooted.
Recently, I was using the GPS on my tbolt while driving, with a car charger, when I noticed that the battery icon had a question mark in it. A few minutes after arriving at my destination, the phone died, and will not charge or turn on. The orange charging icon does not turn on, regardless of what charger I use (official or otherwise). My girlfriends Incredible charges fine with the same charger. I took the phone to the store, and they didn't have any luck either, however, I didn't see them try another battery. They got me on the line with a rep to do a warranty return, and the new bolt should be here on Tuesday, and I have to ship my broken one back within 5 days after that.
The phone is rooted with CM7 on it. If they are able to turn it on, they will immediately see that it is rooted (custom splash, boot animation, etc..) My question is, has anyone had this issue? Is it fixable? Have you ever sent a rooted phone back under warranty? What happened? Should I try a new battery first? I'm not sure if the light should come on regardless of whether the battery works or not.
Any input is appreciated. I've read about people sending back rooted phones, but not for this issue.
It's more than likely a bad battery. Most Verizon reps are retarded when it comes to their phones (pretty sad right?) My girlfriend got her Eris's battery wet (a loooong time ago lol) and it got the question mark in the battery icon.
I don't think the light will come on without a battery.
As far as sending a rooted phone back, I'm not sure. If there is any way you could get your hands on another tbolt or rezound battery, I would try that.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Try a different battery.
If you send back a rooted phone the worst that can happen is that you'll be billed full price for a new one.
