Bootloop/water dmg help - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I got water on my phone, it leaked out of a bottle while i was listening to pandora and got my phone wet, Screen stayed black when i pressed a button, I immediately took the battery out, I even put it in a bowl of rice. Now today, I put my battery in, and it tries to boot but only shows the my touch 4g slide screen, I can get into my bootloader and go to fastboot, I have tried reflashing my kernel, from the bootloader I can only access Fastboot everything else will leave me stuck at the Mytouch4G slide screen. Maybe i need to install a rom via adb but I only know how to do it from the clockwork recovery screen.
any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

Yes, Im S-On, sry forgot to mention that in my post.

Anyone know how to install a rom via pc from bootloader? Think that may work but i dont know how. Must be able to do with s on.
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda premium

with s-on your phone runs security checks if your try to flash through bootloader, so unless you have a signed rom by htc it wont work. you can however flash an ruu through fastboot still, this will essentially bring you back to stock, unfortunately being you are s-on and do not have super cid then it will check to see what version you are running, this means that you will get an error say version older or something.
but htc is to release a new update at some point soon (fcc lawsuit deal) and if released as an ruu (as opposed to ota) you can flash this.
there are ways to flash nandroid backups via fastboot as well but they would need to be in yaffs2 as i dont believe fastboot supports tar balls or really any other format. but being you dont have an engineering bootloader that wouldnt matter as you are limited to what fastboot commands you can flash anyway.
i hate to say it but i think your screwed... thats not to say stop trying as you may get a fix somehow, just saying i would consider looking for a new phone while your trying to fix it

Thx. I actually have a new phone got it after the rice trick cause i thought it may be a bit before i get it to work...
Though i did just soak my phone in a bowl of purified water let it sit in rice again for 6 hourse. And then put it in a towel for 1-2 n tried to boot n it worked. Gonna let it dry more and then charge it all the way.n see if it will continue to work

I've had the same exact thing happen to me. Phone was soaked. Same exact symptoms. Ended up buying another phone. Few days later an idea struck me, and I took the new phone battery and put it in the wet (now dried up) one. Worked!!!

Flashing a stock PG59IMG.zip to the phone will probably work for you. Doing that reflashes EVERYTHING, the way HTC wants it to be. You simply put it onto your microSD card, boot into bootloader, it will ask you if you want to update, & it will take over from there. Make sure the battery is charged though.

Oh, another thing. I've repaired many water damaged devices, mostly HTC, & there's one thing I remember regarding the myTouch 4G & 4G Slide. When you turn the phone on, try holding down all 4 of the bottom buttons, & the optical trackpad button as well. Do not let go of them. If the system successfully loads up from you holding all of the buttons down, then that means that the ribbon cable for the buttons, & possibly the trackpad as well, got damaged, & that's what's causing the system to hang. If that's the case, replace the ribbon cable for the buttons, & replace the optical trackpad button as well. That will solve the problem. Hope this helps.

Thanks, If I flash this, will it still be unlocked or will I have to unlock my bootloader again?

If you can flash a stock PG59IMG.zip on your phone, it will automatically reflash everything back to HTC factory specs. That includes the bootloader as well. So it will not be S-OFF anymore. It will be locked, S-ON once again.
Search around here for some of those files. There are old ones, & newer ones. Just make sure you get one that people already figured out how to unlock. Many times, the newest version doesn't get figured out for whatever reason.

Actually if you have true radio s-off you won't loose that, you will have to flash bootloader/recovery/and rom again though

What file did you delete that you believe you might need? Were you trying to flash back to stock? A clearer picture of the process you were trying to perform would be helpful.
I get stuck on the boot loop screen. I pulled the battery out and press down button and power button, when i get to hboot it goes to do an update by itself, when it asks me if i want to update i click yes but but that still dont work. i cant get into recover mode either. im downloading ruu files now hopefully that would work unless i have to have the phone on. All i get when i get when i perform the battery pull out options is to get to the hboot screen but it would not let me scroll down to the recovery mode option, it seems that fast boot is on.
I'd try a stock RUU. from hboot . Format your sd card first to be safe .
Cal remove your SD card boot into hboot it will search for the file but can't find it then put your SD card back in and then click recovery

Do you have a PD98IMG file on the root of your SD card? If so, either use the trick of pulling the SD card posted above, or remove your SD card and if you have a card reader use a PC to delete the offending file, and then re-install your SD card and reboot.
Thanks guys RUU worked like a charm. It made me loose root but I just finish rooting the phone again. I think I deleted the stock image file that's what happen.

Me too . I don't think it is easy to hard brick this phone...speaking as one that has had many "brick" events with this thing...it is recoverable if it boots to any state at all it seems.
A brick is an expensive fried electronic device. I have't seen a bricked htc irl except when a friend of mine didnt rtfm and bricked his wizard in 2006. The only fix was jtag/not worth it.

People throw the "brick" word around an awful lot, but by conventions a "bricked" phone is defined as unrecoverable.

Indeed. I always chuckle when I see posts, such as this one, titled "brick!!"
Distinguishing with "soft-brick" and "hard-brick" nowadays seems necessary due to such sloppy usage of the original term.
Bricked would mean a brick fell on your phone lol hi. There would be no way of fixing the phone.

I bricked my phone, htc inspire 4g 2.3.3 today for a friend of mine, not a soft brick either. I have rooted my htc thunderbolt without any problems but this phone was so easy to brick, when I hold down the volume button and power I can't recover the phone at all, I didn't make a backup either. Can anyone help? Does anyone have the original firmware or know how to solve this problem?

What did you do? If you truly can't get to hboot, then you are really bricked; hboot is necessary for anything else to load and run.
How did you manage this? If you have a late model Inspire (post Aug 2011) and tried to install an older hboot (from, say the Froyo RUU), or the ENG hboot, then it isn't damaged so much as just confused and will boot eventually (like 10-20 minutes) from which point you can get the right hboot back onto it.
Please elaborate.

Help needed with Desire S

Had it in my pocket yesterday and it started vibrating really fast so I assume it was a call or something. Looked at it and there was loads of apps loaded up on the screen and it was just vibrating away with no incoming call.
Only way to stop it was a battery pull. Turned it back on and it went into safe mode. So turned off and on again and it took a long time to boot but did actually come on ok.
However, the screen didnt respond. So another battery pull and it just stops at the HTC logo on a white screen.
Also when it does boot the light to the left of HTC logo at the top seems lit up.
Any advice guys?

Take a look at this there some possible solutions in there
I get the device to boot after 10 mins on white screen with htc logo.
Still in safe mode. I tried adb reboot recovery but just goes to white screen with logo again.
Did you try ruu or something else inside the thread i linked?
Is your device s-off via revolutionary?
I got into recovery after waiting for a long while. But the only button to respond was the power button meaning I could only reboot.

Good that means adb is working
Try the adb commands within the thread I linked
Or try to use an ruu to restore your partition table or another solution of the following link, but it's quiet strange that your volume buttons don't work or are they just not working within recovery? If they are don't also don't work within bootloader, it looks like there is more damaged than the partitions, your choice, try a ruu or another solution of the linked thread or send your device to repair for warranty (what you also can do after you have tried the other solutions)

Is there any way I can return it to stock without having to navigate recovery so I can take it in for repairs?
Any way to put it back to s-on?
Sry man, but if you don't read what i'm linking there's not much hope, all possible solutions are in there, including ruu what would exactly do what you want to and not only that it also could fix your problem.
Ruu <- click on this
download the ruu for your region
Plug your device to usb
put your phone to fastboot (inside the bootloader)
Be sure that htc drivers are installed (maybe install AND uninstall htc sync [the drivers are still present])
Execute the the ruu and follow the instructions
I am about to try this, awaiting download of RUU. Although I am not sure which to use.
Mine is sim free stock from carphonewarehouse. So I am grabbing one of the HTC Euro RUU files.
Is there any way to tell which to get?
And I have read the links. Most of it doesnt work so trying the RUU
Just managed to get the buttons working. So doing a restore to see how that goes. Then will try RUU

Will be the right one i think.
In common it depends on in which country or from which provider you bought it.
Sry, in some special cases (mostly related to alpharev/revolutionary) they don't, but for others they worked very well

HTC Sensation Warranty Question

Okay, so yesterday my phone broke. Basically what happens with my phone is that when I turn it on, an image of static appears onto the phone. This image doesn't leave the screen, you can't interact with the phone, basically you can't do anything because the phone will boot up but then the image of static appears. (Home, Menu, Back, & Search button do respond though)
There's no visible physical damage on the phone but I do hear a bit of rattling inside when I shake the phone.
I ordered my new phone last night, I receive it today and now I have to return my damaged one. Here's the question, I had the latest Android Revolution HD on it, it was rooted & all and I'm wondering, even though you can't interact with the phone, will T-Mobile void my warranty if they repair it, turn it on and find out the new "mods"?
Since I can't interact with it, I can't delete anything or reset anything.
Thank you for your help. (Please move if in the wrong section)
I know this sounds horrible but I wouldn't give it a shot. I would make sure the phone is bricked and then send it just to cover my ass. Is it wrong yes, but the phone doesn't work properly as it is. Do I feel guilty? No, I pay insurance for the dang phone all year.
-Just my 2cents.
No, I feel no guilt at all whatsoever. But, how exactly do I brick the phone if I can't do anything with it? I can only turn it on and look at a screen of static.

There are many ways to do so, just do what is said not to do. Normally that does it. Or you can risk it being sent back to you.
This is what I would do, I would download the latest RUU from here. Then I would boot the device into Hboot by powering on the device and holding the volume down button down. Now I know you say you can not see the screen, but when the menu of Hboot comes upit will be on fastboot so all you will have to do is hit the power button. Then connect the device via USB to your computer then run the RUU. When the RUU is done you will be on complete stock.
Now if you really want to brick the device just wait until the RUU is flashing the Radio, or just flash a Radio, and pull the USB cable out while it is flashing the radio. This will for sure hard brick the device.
I'm cracking up reading this thread on, basically, how to properly brick your phone.
From what I've read formatting your sd card with an old version of Cyanogenmod 9 works great..
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
like mentioned earlier, pull the battery during a radio update, this will most likely hard-brick it
if the screen is damaged but the phone is still functioning you should be able to get into hboot and install a radio

Pulling the USB cable won't do a thing. The radio .img is sent to the phone, then written.
It's a battery out job halfway through to kill it.

Well this is news to me, please link me to something that I can read more about this. I thought the image files were written as the RUU sent them to the device.
My source is watching the output of fastboot commands, and the progress bars in HBOOT, not articles I'm afraid
You could install a tablet ROM. That would for sure brick it, right?

You are correct. If you are using a RUU, then you can just pull the cable. If you are just flashing a radio file located in your SD Card, then you need to pull the battery.

Solid amber light with no/long boot

I know this title comes up a lot but I can't seem to find my problem.
I wanted to go back to the stock rom and I used the proper RUU but totally forgot to use the S-ON tool before hand. It installed successfully but now I get a solid amber light and so far I got my inspire to boot once only to get stuck on the splash screen with it vibrating non-stop.
And now it just vibrated once, went to a black screen and then shut off. I really don't know what to do since I can't even get to HBOOT nor will the computer recognize it.
I've done numerous batter/sim card pulls as well as clean them out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

It seems that the RUU you flashed was a Froyo one and your phone was running GB so you messed the bootloader. Hit the Hack Kit IRC channel (is in the OP thread) and we will lend u a hand to fix that....
Alright so I went to the IRC and they told me they couldn't help because it did not deal with the hack kit, fair enough.
I have been able to get the phone to boot after waiting for about 10 minutes but I cannot get to the bootloader. I tried rooting the phone again this way I can turn s-on then flash the stock rom again but the phone ends up not being detected half way through the process.
I really don't know what else to do...
Forgot to mention, now my inspire boots but then fades to a greyed out screen. My computer recognizes the phone as something occupying the usb port but is not accessible. Wish the phone had a physical reset button somewhere that i can poke with a paperclip...

I will get back on the IRC this evening when I get home from work thanks again!!!
Does it say anything about QHUSB_DLOAD USB device being connected?
I ran into a similar problem not too long ago, immediate vibrating followed by a solid amber light and no phone activity (nothing on the screen at all). I knew I had a backup in Recovery, but I couldn't even get into recovery.
In order to work around this, I did the following steps.
1. Deleted the PD98IMG file from my SD card (so I could get to recovery once I made it to the bootloader).
2. Take out the battery, then put it back in.
3. Plug in the phone, and let it sit for a few minutes.
4. Start into bootloader (hold power + Volume Down)
Now, in my case I was just trying to get back into recovery. if you don't have a working recovery, or no ROM to flash, you'll want to grab a few RUU 's to try from the bootloader. Try stock GB first, then try a stock Froyo just for the heck of it.
Hope this helps! Good luck to anyone else that's stumbled into this problem.
side note: I've also heard of this "power problem" occurring to other people without bootloops or screwed up bootloaders: which is solved by doing steps 2 and 3, then it'll boot up normally.

im having same issue i have gb stock and i accidtly did froyo ruu phones power bottun does nothing i have to plug it into computer and it will get solid amber light then eventually it either brings up battery charge icon and then if i press power button or unplug it. it just shuts off the i plug it back in and wait sometimes white htc screen comes up and it vibrates for a while then boots ad works like nothing is wrong but i cant flash gb ruu when i try to do that or re root and go to recovery to reistall ics that is on my sd as soon as phone restarts during process it doesnt reboot then i have to go threw whole procss of trying to get it to boot back up

im new to this site but i did exactly what you said in your post and now my inspire wont reboot unless i go threw a few hour process of plugin my phone in and i get solid amber light for like 5 min then a battery charge screen comes up then i have to unplug my phone and plug it back in the last time i did this it took about 8 hours of tryin until it finally got amber light for like 5 min then started vibrating for a min or 2 then it booted up and its bin workin fine for like a week now ive tried to reflash gingerbread ruu ive tried doin upgrade from my phone and tried reroot but as soon as it shuts down to start upgrade my phone is off and wont reboot

Touch screen not working cant use 4EXT recovery

Basically il start from the beginning....
1. phone has worked for 1 month great with ADRHD 6.6.x (not sure exact id) (was the latest a month ago).
2. One day the TOUCH screen just decided to not work at all, BUT after i ran down the battery it worked for 10 minutes, rebooted and same again.
3. Yesterday i managed to finally get the touch to work SO i went throught the stages of updating to ADRHD 6.7.x everything went smoothly UNTIL
half way through the install when it came to the section, "Would you like to install jelly bean animation" (think thats what it said, well it had jelly
bean in lol) AND the touch screen cut out again, so there i am no touch screen, no way to complete the installation. so the battery went dead
and now im stuck in bootloop and the screen wont become touchable at all even after 5 dead battery starts.
4. so now im stuck, cant update, restore or connect to pc as the stupid recovery is touch only so it wont connect to the computer. IT DOES however get recognised by the pc as the pc bleeps when the phone connects (same as each time it bootloops)
SO can ANYONE help me with this, i am insured however and will IF NOT fixed be attempting to claim off insurance.
Any questions please ask !
Thanks
You Can repair the touch screen your self with a new one. Once you get screen repaired you can restore the rom. They have a great video on how to install a new screen on YouTube. If you don't want to send out this could be another option for you? Unless someone else has a fix somehow you can try the repair yourself if you like by following the video.I suggest this because you're rooted and they will deny the repair unless you can get back to stock somehow? Once they see device is rooted they will defiantly deny you.so your best option is to repair yourself unless someone knows of a way around this . Best of luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do.

cheers for the replies but,
the screen is not broken just wont respond, but as it has responded before i know its not broken and does not need replacing.
second of all, it is ot the ground pin, thanks for the input but i know my phones, the main thing is this stupid recovery, why does it have to be completly touch screen

change the recovery to cwm then
get the recovery.img of cwm old version (non touch)
and
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
how? it wont connect to the pc so i cant use recovery at all. all i can do it open recovery and navigate through th standard menus on that screen, such as fastboot, revovery, restore ect.
you can use fastboot commands to change the recovery
just get the recovery.img of cwm 5.0.0.2 one i think
and this command (with phone connected from bootloader to pc)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
