Status of unlock? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys, I just wanted to check to see if the latest versions of the VZW GS3 could be unlocked or not. I heard that they implemented bootloader blacklisting. Is there a workaround yet?

According to this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
We are still able to unlock our bootloaders just fine. Thanks for checking up on us though! I'm surprised they haven't pulled the same BS they did for the Note 2 yet.

Thank You so much for starting us off by unlocking
VZW GS3 for us. You took our phone from being the mutt
of the litter to the envy of all others I can't thank you enough.
Your talent and generosity in sharing is legendary Hail To
The King.:highfive:
My wife somehow accidentally took the OTA but
was still able to unlock. :good:
Thanks for keeping tabs on us you the man.

Adam,
Care to post where you heard this rumor from? This is the first I think most of us have heard of this.

I've seen it first hand on the Galaxy Note 2 and the i9300.

Rooting detection

Is there software out there that companies can run and audit there phones to tell if users have rooted their phones?
Run synergy and not sweat it. TrevE **** blocked all that ****.

Actually no, HTC will know if you unlock by unlocking your bootloader on their site
I think Verizon knows what firmware your running when you update but I don't think it should even be a problem.

HTC don't know that you are unlocked. Only that you requested the unlock token. Verizon does check the software but whether they know you are rooted I don't know. There is root detect in the software itself that is why Trev disabled it. What happens I don't know. Have never done an OTA on any device since I got my first Tbolt and rooted it right away. No need to take OTA. We usually get the RUU before it is ever released and the devs deem it safe or make it safe within 24 hours.

Just curious as I don't want to root if they have a way of knowing you compromised the phone.
On the razr there is a boot menu they can go into to see if the device has ever been rooted, is currently rooted, or has been rooted but not at the moment. Ive never heard of anything on the GS3 like this

I honestly dont think the carriers go through evey phone like some people would think they do. Well idk about vzw but when i was with tmobile for 6 years ive sent back about 10 phones some i left rooted and nevwr got hit with a out of warranty charge.
But you never know better safe then sorry i guess

Samsung should of done a developer edition...

I think Samsung dropped the ball on this one..They should of follow HTC and done a universal world GS4 developer edtion with 64gb+SD card. With bootloader unlocked. And works with LTE ATT and Tmobile also..
who knows that might be in the tow too
Bootloader is always unlocked on Galaxy devices. Rooting is also really easy.
No need for Developer Edition.

Engadget says bootloader is locked. Locked on Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon at the very least. Judging by how Sprint's GS4 has a locked bootloader, I'd be inclined to say that many, many more models are locked out of the box.
Root should be easy but I have a strong feeling that custom ROMs/kernels won't be nearly as easy.

I hope not. I need someone with an international i9500 or i9505 to post an image of their download mode text. If Write Protection is on, word needs to get out fast and devs need to jump on it because we will have a situation like the VZW GS3 on our hands.

MK2 bounty

Is anyone else out there interested in putting together a bounty for a bootloader unlock+working recovery for the OTA 4.3 MK2 update? I could get into that, but going for it alone seems like a fools errand.

A bounty already exists for the I337 S4
ROOTED ATT MK2 using Tapatalk
Well, any exploit applicable to MK2 has a good chance of being applicable to previous versions. With the 4.4 update coming along at some point, I don't know if it makes sense to have a bounty just for MK2.
Current unlocks really known to NOT work for MK2 devices. Thus the need for a new bounty.

We have never had a bootloader unlock, we've had work arounds but never an actual unlock...hence the reason why we still have a bounty That has thousands of dollars promised to a dev that can unlock the bootloader...so no...no reason for a new bounty, the old one still stands

Then a workaround. Whatever gets MK2 busted loose for a custom recovery or a ROM. Root works great, but if you try to flash Safestrap or any custom ROM you're bricked. This is a bounty for functioning custom work for devices with the 4.3 OTA.

provide link to correct bounty
can someone please provide the correct link to the bounty for the AT&T SGH-I337 MK2 so I can contribute and follow the progress.
I was given a link to what looked like a bounty for the MK3 and did not want to contribute as that wont work for me.
Thank You
This for stock S4? Because I'm running MK2 unlocked/rooted on a custom ROM so I'm confused what the bounty is for exactly. Can someone please clarify?

This bounty is for people on the AT&T S4, model I337. It is for getting bootloader unlock/bypass and custom recovery for people who have taken the official OTA and have the MK2 bootloader.
As an exploit appears to be increasingly likely for MF3, I will give whatever I can afford to the devs involved once complete. Iwill give again if they can do the same for MK2. Sorry I can't be precise.
Also, I think it's worth bearing in mind that as this exploit is being developed, it is increasingly a collaborative effort. This will be a bounty for many.

This thread was created before safestrap was released...so thats what the point was, look at post dates next time. and keep in mind safe strap only allows for stock based roms, so a bounty still has a very valid reason: a bootloader unlock or way to flash a real recovery, that way we can flash non stock based roms such as CyanogenMod
but for now, im more than satisfied with safestrap

4.4.2 downgrade to 4.1.2 - Possible?

Hello everyone,
I have a SCH-I535 running 4.4.2 that I bricked last night after running ez-unlocker (attempting to modify the bootload) and just got it back to work after using a debrick image... I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade back to JB 4.1.2? and if so how will accomplish this since it is not letting me bypass the odin process due to a recovery failed error...
Thank you very much!

Wait a week or so. I had an idea the other day and we are just now trying to put it to the test. It may unlock the bootloader, who knows! The method works on Motorola phones with the Qualcomm msm8960 chips. And guess what. The s3 has the same chip. And the exploit was directed towards that chip.

Still testing and digging! But I feel like our efforts are fruitless, as I am no developer and I feel like my friend and I's ideas have been thought of and tested and failed. I do not want to bring any hopes up. But it's starting to look more and more possible. Just be patient

That link has been posted in these forums before. That downgrade only works on the i9300 international version, not the i535 Verizon version. The screenshot in the article you linked even shows the about phone as the i9300. This article you linked is from 8 months ago. If this worked on the Verizon version it would have been all over these forums. The article you linked even mentions how trying this process resulted in hard bricks on the AT&T version. Anyone trying this on the Verizon version will suffer the same fate.

Plenty of new people who would read your description, click on the link, follow the suggestion contained in the article without also looking into the details, and brick their phone. I removed the link from my quote of you. You may want to consider removing the link from your previous post. Just saying.
