If you used the HTC Dev method to unlock your device, then it is not going to say S-off as it does not fully unlock your device. The below quote is straight from GPS HTC Dev site.
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

Make sure the file is still zipped and try using revolutionary
There's a toolkit by hasoon maybe you should check that out too that's what I used

I don't know what you can do but installing the drivers won't work, because the phone is in hboot the computer will not pick it up but it can still send adb commands in fastboot

This I understand. But it seems that no matter what I tried, supper or revolution etc, still no luck. So I am stuck with a clockworks mod and no radio and no s-off.

Did you untick fast boot?
You may be using the wrong method to soff. Try Juopuntbear, This is for bootloader version 1.27.*** and above. Read carefully and understand before you jump in to it!
When you make a post like this you need to give more information such as boot version. Make and model of your phone, etc.

Hey I am running CM9 on a Canadian Bell HTC Sensation.
The Audiojack is acting up and cutting sound out of the left speaker with a little movement. I no it is not the backcover but an issue inside the jack.
I am sending it to get fixed as it is in warranty still, do I need to change the S-Off and firmware... or can I just install the Bell Stock Rom and that would be fine?? Thanks!!

Read here alot of people post about sending with s off
Don't do it they make u buy motherboard
Brick it or son
Sent from my Sensation 4G using xda premium
I think if you flash radio and pull battery out its dead for ever
Sent from my Sensation 4G using xda premium
Why brick the device???????
I mean it can still be reverted back to S-on and everything and sent back in for repairs then. I mean if you intentionally hard brick it, what are you going to do if HTC finds some reason to deny your claim under warranty? I mean you will have to fix it or just have a paper weight. Cause I am sure you will just have HTC send the device back to you if hey will not cover it under warranty. So that means it will be just like it was before you sent it in and you can re S-off and flash you a custom Recovery and ROM again. Just throwing it out there.
Just brick that one during a boot loader update and it should hopefully be bricked if that's what you truly want. I would try another pair of headphones before jumping ship. Or do what the above poster said.
i am confused.... if I send it S-Off it will come back bricked??? There is nothing wrong with the phone tho... wont It still work with S off and stock Rom anyway?
If you do brick it would htc replace it with a new phone? I'd rather have a fresh phone over a used one with a few new parts.

Not saying to brick it but some times s on don't or won't work try s on first for sure

Wow this thread is wack. LOL...............
I never seen so many post telling the OP to brick their phone, just does not seem natural.
At the OP at least try this toolkit first as it has a option to re lock your bootloader. And if that does not work try then follow the steps quoted below from [Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on thread.
STEP 5 - CHANGING BACK TO S-ON - PROCEED WITH CAUTION. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. BEWARE THERE IS A RISK OF BRICKING READ BEFORE GOING TO STEP 1.
YOU MUST Follow this correctly otherwise you could semi-brick your device (Semi bricks recovery by re-flashing RUU). If you follow it correctly YOU WILL GET S-ON SUCCESSFULLY -confirmed by other users
I cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong but i will help in every situation. 2 unrecoverable bricks so far. 1 due to not flashing RUU
First time i did this with a custom ROM installed - semi-bricked my device (couldn't boot due to security warning as S-on doesn't work with custom roms), restored it using RUU.exe
Second time after S-off i took the following steps and successfully went back to S-ON without any problems and booted up into stock rom.
Confirmed to work by several others as well as myself
1. Follow Step 4 above to get SuperCID - Skip if you already have it
2. Restore your official stock Rom: Just click here to download an Official Rom RESTORE STOCK EVEN IF YOU JUST RESTORED IT RECENTLY OR ARE ALREADY ON STOCK ROM. This is to ensure nothing gets changed in stock for S-on to be successful
So if you are already on a stock ROM or you just went back to stock ROM, i don't care, restore the stock ROM again using the RUU.exe if you don't want to be bricked!
Connect to your phone in charging mode. click the "RUU_pyramid_*****.exe" file you downloaded and follow on screen instructions.
3. Make sure when you download the RUU. download the same or similiar RUU version as your phone came with (e.g. Tmous or EU or Asian etc). As long as you install a stock rom similiar to what you had you should be ok. FAILURE TO DO THIS MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE.
4. Switch your phone on now and let it boot for the first time and just skip through the welcome screen.
5. Go back to Step 4 - SUPERCID and go through 1 to 7 to get to the fastboot bootloader. (so just do what you did before, put adb files in local disk, adb reboot bootloader etc)
6. enter the command "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" (Thanks Dazweeja)
7. Reboot into bootloader using "fastboot reboot-bootloader" or remove & reinsert the battery and press power on while keeping hold of volume down.
8. Bootloader should now read Pyramid PVT Ship S-ON RL.
9. Remove and reinsert the battery. Press power on as normal
You should now have S-on back and you can return your device or do whatever it is covered again under warranty.
10. IF IT DOESN'T REBOOT and bootloader says ***Security Warning**
Remove and re-insert the battery and go back into bootloader and holding Volume Down +power button select fastboot
11. Run RUU_Pyramid_***.exe to reflash stock rom. (the one u just downloaded in step 1) and then reboot. It should work now
The above method works successfully. So do not under any circumstances try this without going back to stock first using Ruu.exe. and Follow the instructions correctly if you want S-on WITHOUT problems Any doubts or questions PM me and i will get back to you and help you.

Here is what I want to know about warranty exchange
1. When sent in, if the device is bricked do they replace it with another device New/refurbished?
2. If the device is experiencing a software malfunction, do they fix the issue then return the same device back?
Cause if #2 is the case why not brick it and get a new/refurbished unit back, over one that has failed on you already.
Just want to properly understand so I can know what to expect if my device fails me at some point.

Because even if the device is hard bricked, HTC can still teardown the device and connect to the hardware with UART and JTAG. The can then find out hat state the device was in before being bricked and deny any warranty work.
Now if you experience complete hardware failed like I did with my first Sensation they can not deny your claim.

i put my phone back to s-on last time when i sent it for repair
Hi,
Ok so I guess the problem is that I installed an official RUU on an S-OFF Desire S device. But that is my guess :crying:
After the installation was complete, there was a black screen on the device (with some minor back-light), and it was just stuck on it.
I removed the battery after a while and tried to Turn On the phone, and it showed the white HTC logo, then went to the Black Screen with a little bit of back-light. And stuck.
I can enter HBOOT, but in HBOOT I can't go to Recovery, when I try it gives me the black screen.
I can't mount USB or use Android Flash or adb because the device isn't recognized (Yes yes i have all the drivers and software),
it actually IS recognized by the PC, but not as something that can be manipulated.
I can't do Factory Reset, I tried, it gives me the Red Triangle. and nothing...
I don't think the phone is bricked, because HBOOT is working, and I can install stuff from it if I change it to P88IMG.ZIP.
Is there a chance there is a way to restore a recovery that I made with Clockwork and saved on my PC?
I've been searching this forum and the internet for many hours and can't find the answer.
Thank you up-front for any help!

I'm not sure which step you are speaking of.
My DesireS IS perfectly S-OFF.
I am saying this may have caused the problem, because I was installing official RUU ICS on a S-OFF device.

Look at your HBOOT now. Does it still say S-OFF?
Don't assume, LOOK.
Your guess is wrong, there's nothing bad in installing RUU on S-OFF device - only that if you've achieved S-OFF through a hacked bootloader (opposed to "true" S-OFF by XTC-Clip), you will return to S-ON.

Hey Jack. It still shows S-OFF.
I don't remember how I achieved the S-OFF in the first place. So I don't know if it's "true" or the other one.

What is your HBOOT version?
The most probable explanation is that RUU install never completed properly.
HBOOT Version is 6.98.1002
Note that I tried installing a version of the ROM for S-OFF devices, from HBOOT, and it goes through the installation perfectly but nothing changes.
I also tried installing the official RUU again from PC and it doesn't recognize the device. :banghead:
The worst part is that this isn't even MY phone.. was helping someone and got in this mess

1) this hboot has write protection and cannot be replaced by RUU (that's why I always recommend to replace it immediately after using Revolutionary, just in case something goes wrong)
2) this hboot supports the old partition layout and has no separate /system/lib partition which is required by the official ICS. This is the reason it is not booting for you
How to solve: flash this bootloader. The system will boot fine after that. If there are issues clear the cache with the command
Code:
fastboot erase cache
OK I will try it when I get back from work. Thank you! I will post back if it helps or not.

S off stand for security off.
It's Nand security off.
The root provide software level permissions only. Like Changing custom rom Changing custom recovery etc..
But soff will be the perfect rooting of system gain full access over ur phone.
It has following advantage.
1.u change the bootloader
2. Resize the system partition to install larger rom In ur mobile.
3.changr the ime number.
4. Remove any carrier lock on the phone.
Disadvantages.
Simply If u r an expert nothing disadvantage.
If ur a new bees everything disadvantage u may brik ur phone completely.
I hope this information will help u.
If this information helps u hit on thanks.

If he is on gb he doesnt need to unlock, he can straight s-off it and retain his warranty, the guide to do that totally works. Unlocking is totally unnecessary and is just going the extra road to s-off.
Your post is only if someone who has upgraded to official ics and wans to s-off, which is not possible as the person first needs to unlock.
