I have a Kocaso M730W that comes with Android 2.3.4. It crashes frequently, and at this point, I want to either upgrade it or return it. How can I get a later version of Android onto this tablet?

I have had one of these for over a year and searched exhaustively. No one has really bothered with this cheap tablet as far as porting any of the ROMS to it. I don't even know how to boot it into recovery mode so you could flash a ROM to it even if I had one. Short answer: I think we're SOL on this one. If you keep screwing with it, try a different launcher and tweak some of it, you can get it to run pretty stable. If you do find a way, please let me know!

This seems like a long shot, but I'm wondering if there's any way to install an older version of the Android OS. I know it seems counterintuitive to want an OLDER version of Android, but it'd be really handy for app-testing purposes if I could switch between versions of the OS without resorting to emulators. Please let me known if you have any ideas.
P.S. I only have access to Nexus S and Galaxy S II phones right now, which both shipped with 2.3, so flashing an original, pre-update ROM isn't an option.

Did you have 3.2.1 installed or 3.2? Mainly was hoping to use method 2 as it seems more noob proof. Tottaly new to android and dont really get the gist of custom firmware yet. I thought with method 2 their would be less chance of something going wrong.
i had 3.2
i used the following soft: EUUs_SBK_Acer_A501_0.017.01_PA_ATT.exe
i just edit config in the remp folder. i changed uid and model from 501 to 500
Today i bit the bullet and tried method 2 all went smooth no issue now running thors rom on rooted iconia edit note I was on default acer australia rom 3.2.1
ok so after playing with custom roms for full day and not finding one I liked more than the stock I decided to return to stock. I got it done from the 3.2 ota rom from the developer section. Just wondering if I have to do anything else to receive ota updates again. I have used the check for update feature but it says I'm up to date when I know there is a 3.2.1 update available as I had it before I installed the custom from. Is it just a matter of waiting for it?
Anyone here or anywhere else on the web been able to get hold of the stock
3.2.1 update to sideload the update?
ok after spending most of the day reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 and trying to digest all the info gee major brain scrammble looks like I will no longer receive ota updates. My bad should have spent more time reading instead of jumping in head first. So now I can either wait for ota updates to be posted here and manually update or go back to custom roms full time. So looks like I will be going with option 2 I found a thread here that ics is in the works so don't feel so bad bout my major stuff up. Out of interest will Acer restore defaults for a price?
Back to stock and getting ota updates see my post on page 25 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155664
Hi bulcmal, you seem to know how to solve my question:
I own a new ICONIA A500 and after a few moment with it I updated to 3.2 without reading about it and knowing that has a lot of bugs. Now I want to go back to OTA 3.1 so my question is next one:
After I use the second method presented here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1276227
Can I update to 3.1 freely (using the update function on the settings).
Thanks a lot.
Method 2 downgrade and you have the right room for your country I don't see why it wouldn't work. After you downgrade when it reboots you will get lots of force close don't panic its fine, then shutdown tablet complete remove your micro sd card delete the downgrade rom and copy the stock rom to the sd card( I just used a cheap card reader for this) then reboot while holding down volume button on left side and power button keap holding till small white text appears in upper left of tablet screen. On a side note its very important to test unzip both updates (the downgrade rom and the stock rom) to be sure they are not corrupt if the process fails to unzip either update you could brick your tab. Also both roms will be called update. Zip don't unzip files any further than this other than to test that they can be unzipped without issues. I take no responsibility if things go pear shaped just describing what I did.

I wouldn't risk updating from the settings menu the downgrade rom is very unstable and you may get errors see post above cheers.
Hi, I read the post above and have two more questions:
First:
I bought the tablet on Amazon US. How do I know which rom do I need?
And second:
After I flash the stock rom, the OTA updates will be available?
I am new to this flashing thing so bare with me if my questions are a bit stupid.
Thanks a lot.
Do you think this will work with a USB storage?

I dont know wich stock rom you would need Usally you would search for the rom based on what country you are in. But seeing as you imported it I dont know how it would work. On the other hand if you got ota updates in your country perhaps it is now running your countries firmware. I succesfully got ota updates after doing this.

??? Do you mean can you use usb storage to do the downgrade and the installation of the stock rom? If so I think it only works from the micro sd card slot.
Also guys the 3.2.1 update is currently being rolled out if you dont need root you could always wait for that update it may also fix your issues cheers
how long has the 3.2.1 update been rolling out? still stuck on 3.2 here in melbourne. I got the tablet a week ago and it updated only up to 3.2.
I originally got it early-mid november, then acer pulled the update. It was re released about 2 weeks ago. I am still waiting for it to come back to.
ok, thought i was being left behind. guess i have to be patient lol
Ok, I got a TF300t for christmas. I couldn't wait, powered it up, and before I even hit the forums I went ahead and applied the JB update. :crying: I know... So here I am, running stock. I'm at the most recent update as of a few days ago. I've been up and down the forum trying to figure out the root situation, and there's all sorts of instructions for different .17, .26, .29, etc. roms. 1st, which number are you looking at for that? My first guess was build number so I guess that puts me at JRO03C.US_epad-10.4.2.20-20121228 (which following the above I'm guessing would get shortened now to 2.20?)
1st Q Is the only way to currently root/TWRP this bad boy to DL the ASUS unlock apk and run it? From what I can see a LOT of people are having issues with it, and it doesn't even unlock NVFlash?! I'm used to Tegra based devices. I had a ViewSonic gTab before this. I've flashed and NVFlashed the hell out of that device so flashing itself doesn't make me uncomfortable, but the thing with that tab was as long as I could get APX, my ass was fine. I'm not so sure about the TF300t If the APK is the only way... sad panda.
2.) The APK voids the warranty right? Not a fan of that idea...what if I have a legit HW issue not caused by flashing? I'm screwed....damn. Is ANYONE working on a way to modify the bootloader without notifying ASUS? Hell, I'll even take some janky way of rerouting my IP traffic and sending back a false positive to unlock my tab.
I can't really think of a 3 right now. I had one earlier...I forgot. Normally I wouldn't post this since I know it's probably topics that have been covered, but there's SO MUCH info on this tablet and it seems to change with each release that ASUS puts out that I'm not sure which methods I can use and what exactly they will do. The gTab may have been stuck in Froyo, but the guys on TeamDRH are awesome and it was SOOOO easy to flash that thing 7 ways from Sunday. I'm really mad at ASUS's implementation....had I known that they screwed over the abilities to flash the tegra platform I'd have looked into a Sammy to at least match up better with my S3.
Any help or advice is appreciated. I'd really like to find a way to root/TWRP w/o voiding warranty. If it can't be done now does anyone at least know if it's being worked on by anyone?

For unlock your tablet, the only way is to use the UNLOCK TOOL V7
After, once your tablet unlocked without problem
You can just followed this guide : [ROOT/ROM] Root Stock/Deodex Firmware 10.4.2.20 (US/WW) | Insecure kernel !.
It's exactly for you.

No way by this side...If you use the Unlock tool, you loose your warranty, it's one fact

And actually and for my part the most functional as recovery is TWRP, but if you want to use CWM, no problem for use it too
Hey all,
I recently sold my phone running CM 10 on eBay and the buyer said the phone is for her son, so she didn't know what software he wants on it....I figure I would be best off just sending it to them stock (stock firmware, unrooted, locked bootloader).
Is there anyway I can do this besides using Odin? I'm currently using a Mac, so anything method that I can use on OS X would be great, but if not, I can just get hold of a PC and do it via Odin if necessary
Heimdall would be your solution. It's a cross platform Odin alternative and there are native versions for PC, Mac, and Linux. The XDA thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
It uses the same tar files that Odin would. As far as the software, I would run a stock unrooted TW for the kid personally. That way his mom can't come back and harass you about something he did because you left him with dangerous software. If he roots it and then breaks it, it's his own fault. Just tell her you left it on a stock version with no inherent risk involved, but just incase he needs to know (have her not tell the kid) the bootloader is already unlocked.
I would do stock rooted. Rooted is always a plus and may get you a few more dollars for it. Then people could choose their own ROM if they so desire. I know I desire just being stock rooted

Make it Stock, locked! incase they dont like the way the phone run, they can always blame you for modding and make you take it back! and it acts as a negative point in Dispute even though you mention it!
I ended up just Odin'ing it back to stock! Thanks guys

Definitely a good call... I do that with every phone I sell.
The way I see it is that if they're not intelligent / motivated / tech savvy enough to root and load something custom on their own then they'll probably have a hell of a time navigating the random problems you'd encounter running anything other than stock.
All right guys here it is, I am trying like hell to root my blu dash 5.0. I found one post that had me flash a rooted image. bricked it once, brought it back by flashing full stock image. did it properly the second, third, and fourth time. I got stuck in a bootloop on the blu logo. link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...-stock-rom-images-t2967900/page3#post65333894
I have tried all manner of one click root tools. Tried Framaroot. Nada. Is there anyone out there who has found the way? I am willing to try anything. I am even willing to attempt to find a way to root it myself, but I have never done anything like this on android so i'd need some basic worries/questions answered before I start messing around.
Also, are there any custom Roms for my phone? I've never used custom roms before, but this past summer I did install one on a family members hp tablet because it wasn't android. it was HPs crappy intent for an OS that had been discontinued and they asked if I could get the wifi to work. I ended up just installing a custom Rom because the OS wasn't great any way and I knew they'd prefer android due to familiarity. I decided I'd like to try custom roms on this phone, but i cant figure out if there are any.
Thanks for any help! And if this is in the wrong place, just says so and i'll move it.
forgot to add I can flash it to 4.2 with the stock image i have, but id like a rooted 4.4 or better, if possible.
I tried Kingroot from the pc, and lo and behold, it worked! So now I am trying to get app2sd to work ( my main reason for wanting root). Also if anybody has any custom roms they know of that are compatible, I'd appreciate it. I've looked, but most don't say if they'd work.
