[Q] JB Stock Needs Help - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I got a TF300t for christmas. I couldn't wait, powered it up, and before I even hit the forums I went ahead and applied the JB update. :crying: I know... So here I am, running stock. I'm at the most recent update as of a few days ago. I've been up and down the forum trying to figure out the root situation, and there's all sorts of instructions for different .17, .26, .29, etc. roms. 1st, which number are you looking at for that? My first guess was build number so I guess that puts me at JRO03C.US_epad-10.4.2.20-20121228 (which following the above I'm guessing would get shortened now to 2.20?)
1st Q Is the only way to currently root/TWRP this bad boy to DL the ASUS unlock apk and run it? From what I can see a LOT of people are having issues with it, and it doesn't even unlock NVFlash?! I'm used to Tegra based devices. I had a ViewSonic gTab before this. I've flashed and NVFlashed the hell out of that device so flashing itself doesn't make me uncomfortable, but the thing with that tab was as long as I could get APX, my ass was fine. I'm not so sure about the TF300t If the APK is the only way... sad panda.
2.) The APK voids the warranty right? Not a fan of that idea...what if I have a legit HW issue not caused by flashing? I'm screwed....damn. Is ANYONE working on a way to modify the bootloader without notifying ASUS? Hell, I'll even take some janky way of rerouting my IP traffic and sending back a false positive to unlock my tab.
I can't really think of a 3 right now. I had one earlier...I forgot. Normally I wouldn't post this since I know it's probably topics that have been covered, but there's SO MUCH info on this tablet and it seems to change with each release that ASUS puts out that I'm not sure which methods I can use and what exactly they will do. The gTab may have been stuck in Froyo, but the guys on TeamDRH are awesome and it was SOOOO easy to flash that thing 7 ways from Sunday. I'm really mad at ASUS's implementation....had I known that they screwed over the abilities to flash the tegra platform I'd have looked into a Sammy to at least match up better with my S3.
Any help or advice is appreciated. I'd really like to find a way to root/TWRP w/o voiding warranty. If it can't be done now does anyone at least know if it's being worked on by anyone?

For unlock your tablet, the only way is to use the UNLOCK TOOL V7
After, once your tablet unlocked without problem
You can just followed this guide : [ROOT/ROM] Root Stock/Deodex Firmware 10.4.2.20 (US/WW) | Insecure kernel !.
It's exactly for you.

[Q] Development for LG-LS860

I have a LG Mach (AKA Cayenne, LS860) LG Apparently algo named the LU3000 "Mach" as well for w/e reason. There is a distinct lack of ANYbody developing for this phone. I would like to take on doing it myself, but I am unclear on how to start. I managed after about a week to root the stock rom, but I can't find any recoveries for it. How should I go about this?
I understand that this is a very in depth question and for most, it would be too much to tackle. However, I have a background in C++ and Visual Basic (though I am a little rusty). Any direction would be nice and I am willing and capable of learning anything necessary to accomplish this.
Thanks!
Well this is a combination of bump / information. Since there is a lack of information regarding this phone out here, I figured I would share the method I used to root this phone. It works on the stock 4.0.4 rom.

I was thinking about compiling TWRP for this phone myself, but I would like input from everyone if CWM would be a better choice? Input welcome

I just won this phone, and I'm putting the term LG MACH ROOT/LG MACH BOOTLOADER in this thread so people can find it via google.
There is pretty much no developer love for this phone...
I don't care which way you do it. Personally I prefer TWRP because of it's touch controls.

Well, it looks like its up to me and you:
Im going to compile TWRP tonight for it, and if all goes well, I will create a new thread with the rooting method and recovery explained. However, know that you will officially be person #2 to use this recovery image. All warnings and potential problems will apply.
Up for some fun?
I haven't got the phone yet actually. Briefmobile informed that I won and that sprint will ship it. I don't know anything more than that :/ I hope soon. It'd be fun to mess with the phone while my college break is going on still.
Sorry about the really slow replies. I should subscribe so that tapatalk notifies me.
I don't know when it will get here :/
But since you have it, do you know if the bootloader is unlocked/unlockable? Google is surprisingly of little use with this phone. I'd love to dink around with this phone since it's not my primary one (and I can't use cellular services on it)

All good, it takes time to develop these things anyways. I should have a stable TWRP build within a few days, and a CyanogenMod 10.1 (Android 4.2) build complete in the next couple of weeks.
The bootloader is something I am going to tackle tonight. As you can tell, there is zero documentation on the web for this device. In fact, it received more attention when it was a concept than it does now. So for now, I have no answer on the bootloader. I hope so, or all my work is useless lol. However, root is obtained at a bare minimum
Anyone out there that comes across this thread that wants to find information on modding this phone, PLEASE post your interest here. Trust me, you won't find any other resources.
lg locked bootloaders
I have the lg motion, I don't know how close it is to the mach but I've been following a thread for several months that has been trying to figure out a workaround for the locked boot loader. Google all things root guide for lg motion and you might be able to find a decent starting point for your phones maybe even help them figure out the motion
Ok, well I think, for now at least, root is all we are getting . I have managed to develop and compile ClockworkMod Recovery TeamWin Recovery, and Cyanogenmod 10.1 for it, but realized after all that work that the bootloader is not only locked, but also signed with a digitally encrypted key. Basically in laymans terms: We are ****ed. So, if anybody manages to shmooze either Sprint or LG out of these unlock codes, let me know and I'll provide everything else. Otherwise, anything I have made will brick every LS860 it goes on. Sorry guys.
Oh boy is like Motorola all over again... So no flashing recoveries even?

Thats correct. At least from my understanding. I could be wrong, but without the ability to unlock the bootloader i dont want to try flashing recovery. Too risky for me. Ill give anyone who wants to try my twrp build but i wont accept any repercussion for it doing anythin negative
Give me your twrp build then
I just rooted it. Was super easy.
Tried adb reboot bootloader. Did nothing. Tried adb reboot recovery. Recovered the device. Can't seem to figure out a way to have it download software. (like nvflash) Wonder if there's a special cable...

So I already bricked two, lol. Not going for a third. I really wanna root this phone. I went as far as getting the firmware which is a cab file. But then I guess you have to convert that to a kdz file. Then decrypt the kdz file. Well it appears you need to be an LG Service tech to use the program. Was hoping there was work around for all this,

I rooted it, it was easy using the sony tool that does the adb backup remount bug, but that's as far as I got. I uninstalled a bunch of crap off of the system partition and its a lot faster now, too bad I can't get that activation screen to go away.
Just pulled the newest OTA. I found it in /cache. I tried to get the URL but instead I made it so it no longer sees there's an update... I have the zip file however, and inside of it there is patches to just about everything in system, and updates to magazines, chrome, and LGBookmarksProvider.
There's also a command to install a recovery image:
#!/system/bin/sh
/sbin/write_recovery /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Not sure if it's a good idea to flash that... forgot that it's still locked bootloader
EDIT: Finally figured out download mode... I just held all the buttons down when starting it and voila, it's there. I also hear you can use the LG Software update tool to flash back to stock, so we might finally have root that's safe
Does anyone have the BooksTablet.apk found in /system/app? I'm not sure why but it won't install the update cause the sha1 of that file fails I don't know where to find it.
Dont let this thread die! I noticed there was no dedicated forum for the LS860 development, I really enjoy this phone and would love some level of development for it. I can help as much as I am able.

Can someone rip me their BooksTablet.apk and BooksTablet.odex from their LS860 and PM me a link to it? I really am pissed off at the update prompt (I'm not sure why it's not working, I haven't touched it and I made sure I backed everything up... It won't validate BooksTablet.apk) I'm on the stock original version of the software ZV6 or something... not the ZV7.
I really don't want to go into sprint that much, though I might have to do that soon.
Edit: Just called sprint. They won't do anything for me and I'm not going to pay money for someone to reflash my phone. It's pretty ridiculous how factory images for devices aren't released. You know how many issues this would solve? That's why nexus devices are great. They're practically unbrickable.
Hey guys, try posting the mach in here so maybe it can get a forum for it.... And possibly some development.

[Upd: 17.04.2013] Sony method worked with software version ZV6, but I have purchased a new LG Mach with ROM version ZV7 (an update from Feb 20) - and this method runs but does not result in root - how can I roll this software version back or else get root in an alternative manner? - please help!

[Q] JB back to ICS, still possible to use NvFlash?

I recently purchased my TF700- I wasn't aware of the fact that unlocking the boot loader would void your warranty, and that there was a slightly more complicated process for prepping the TF700 for flashing roms and kernels compared to previous android devices. (This is my first tablet, so I don't know if this is normal for tablets though!) Plus the fact that I need to be on ICS to do everything initially.
And just a BTW, this is comparing it to my experiences w/ the G1, Epic 4G, GS2, and the GS3- where I never actually had to deal with unlocking the boot-loader directly/or having the risk of ruining my warranty.
So basically what happened was that I read through the forums and learned that unlocking the bootloader would void your warranty- and being that it is always risky business + the fact this tablet is a lot more expensive than a phone- I decided I wasn't going to be rooting/flashing roms and kernels and etc, on my TF700. I didn't want the risk of bricking something I just paid $600 bucks for. So I took the OTA update to Jellybean.
With further research though, I found out about NvFlash, and then it would make my tablet brickproof. And that immediately sparked my interest! I read though, that it does not work with the .30 firmware though.
This is where I got a bit confused- I know I can downgrade to ICS (the .30 v tho) and then unlock/root/then flash stuff.
BUT, by me taking the OTA update to 4.1.1 JB, did I **** up my ability to use NvFlash? Cause I really want too unlock my phone and flash roms, but I'm just really scared of bricking my device.
If anyone could help with what my plan of action should be, it would be much appreciated, thanks!
Can't be done unfortunately, you need .26 firmware for nvflash. At the moment you're out of luck :/
****! Well just my luck :/.
I was going to send in my TF700 back in anyways for a replacement since the screen was popping out in the corner, so I guess I'll wait till then!
Thanks for the response!
Just out of curiosity, why doesn't downgrading back to an ICS rom do the trick? Is there something that gets left behind by Asus's JB rom that doesn't get downgraded when you go back to Asus's ICS rom?
Sorry to revive an old thread but I couldn't find a pertinent new thread about this.
Thanks!

You need a bootloader that does not check signatures to install the hacked bootloader. You cannot downgrade to such a bootloader, because all later ones do check signatures, and the unsigned ones are rejected.

Well, Asus had patched the security hole with .26 ICS firmware. They updated the next version of ICS which is .30 and this blocked the exploide. The signature (key) from the ICS .30 is no longer the same as ICS .26. So if you tried to downgrade to .26, you're going to see signature mismatch and it will failed. The signature on ICS .30 and all of the JB are the same, so you can upgrade or downgrade from 30 and up....Here is where the story ended!!
Ah, OK that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

Downgrade from JellyBean to ICS
Hi,

Thank you.

[Q] Unlocking on JB?

I've had may (latest) tf700 for about a week now, and I'm pretty sure I'll end up unlocking and romming...if I can that is. I've read several posts that state unlocking while on JB is hit or miss, with a miss meaning a potential brick. That last one isn't too cool. It seems like every other post I read mentions some thing about downgrading by getting ICS from the Asus site, but only JB is posted, so that's confusing.
So, is there real risk in attempting to unlock while on JB? Should I downgrade and unlock? If so, where (or who) do I get that file from?

You got the wrong information, unlocking is very safe, either it worked or it failed without harm done to your device (of course everying has a .01% risk involved). You won't brick your device. The Asus unlock tool (just an app), will work for both ICS or JB. If some how your MAC address or Serial number is not registered correctly with Asus server, it will fail and if it did fail, the best thing is keep trying until you got it. I highly recommend you to unlock and F*** the warranty (unlocking will void Asus warranty), without unlocking, your tablet is useless anyway.
Nice and straight forward. I don't know if I'd go as far as useless, but I get it...otherwise I wouldn't be looking to unlock.

Same Boat
I am in the same boat. I have been trying for weeks to unlock my bootloader. It seems im in the percentile that the MAC and Serial are screwed up on Asus Servers. I fail every time i try to unlock. I even downgraded to ICS .30 and ran the tool. I was able to root once i downgraded, but i would love to get access to fastboot and flash a stock recovery. Im talking with Asus Support at the moment, and they asked for my MAC Address, but havent got a reply yet.

[Q] Is it possible to downgrade to pre 9.4.5.30 firmware ?

I've been searching on Google and these forums, but I want to get a final answer. Is it possible to downgrade to the less secure firmwares that are pre-9.4.5.30?
Also, does this unlock the bootloader, or am I misunderstanding what I'm reading?
I got my tablet yesterday and couldn't resist upgrading it despite knowing that often-times this causes a problem for customization. I now know I won't be able to get nvflash working on it, even if I unlock in the official way, but am I losing anything else ? I'm thinking about just returning this one and getting a new one that isn't upgraded, but I think I may just be stubborn and doing this on principle.

As far as I know, it is not possible to go under .30.
Hell, I 've even tried going back to .30 but my tablet for some reason even refuses that (which is not normal, I know )
Why would you like to do that anyway? For the NVFlash Tool? The tf700 is pretty brick proof so you're not really in danger
To be fully unlocked? To not worry about warranty claims? I dunno. I haven't tried going back to .30 yet, but if what you say is true and it doesn't always work to do that, then I can't get it unlocked at all, which I absolutely want to do as I like playing with different roms.
Note
Unlocking is still possible with JB firmwares, even though the Asus unlock tool download page says it's ICS only.
What the .30 firmware is required for, is rooting without unlocking, because it's the last firmware on which the debugfs exploit is available.
I myself downgraded for root last week-end, since I am unable to unlock for a different reason.
Oh, I'm rooted. I guess it just boils down to the feeling of freedom associated with a device unencumbered by arbitrary locks.

You can always unlock. Therefore, if you are planning to unlock+root, you can stay on JB.
As far as only rooting goes, you can usually always go back to ICS (I think may have a corrupt download, which prohibits me to downgrade)
I'll need to have a look into that, but you shouldn't worry about that.
As for the warranty: yes, I believe it contains full coverage. You should then be free to do whatever you want

Well - they technically void your warranty when you unlock. So no, not free to do whatever you want.
I believe SquareTrade will still cover physical damage, however if it is a software problem it will not be covered. Anything software related is not recovered, because before flashing I was gonna get one and anything software related will not be covered. So I turned down the getting the warranty because I take good care of my stuff. Usually .

[Q] Bricked (Not sure if Soft or Hard)?

Hey Guys,
So I'm an idiot. I rooted a tablet 2 years ago and thought that made me the bees knees. Now I can't get past a "system software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone" screen.
What I did:
-Got Root with TowelRoot
-Downloaded Clockwork Rom Manager
-From that, downloaded CWM recovery for my device (from their app's UI)
It was at this point that I thought things were going to be easy. I'd be able to root and run my own rom without struggling for 3 days like I did with my tablet.
Unfortunately, I think I failed to unlock my bootloader. I can't figure out a way to get passed this screen.
I've downloaded Odin in hopes of being able to fix it , but the phone won't even show up on my PC now.
I started going through this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166 thread, but I was curious if I'm even trying to solve the right problem.
Does anyone know if someone has already helped someone through this same issue in a thread? I'm at a loss and wish I hadn't touched anything on my phone.
I would really appreciate any pushes in the right direction. I'm kind of scared. Thanks!
Hmmm, around the 30th time trying to boot it, it gave me an option to cancel and started up the stock OS.
If anyone can point me towards getting around this jail cell, that would be fantastic. I've seen a bit about SafeStrap, but can't find any recent threads on it.

Thanks man! I struggled through most of the night and I think I figured everything out. Installed a slim rom via safestrap. Just moved that to the stock partition/slot because I noticed my battery was dropping like crazy.
Do we know if Verizon will be locking all bootloaders going forward, or if there will be any development towards roms that can work with it?
I wasn't sure how to close this thread either

For the most part they will of course try to lock down most phones, the most current phones that have been unlocked are the M8 and the G3 thanks to the development team over on there respected forums. The nexus 6 should also come with an unlocked bootloader but verizon will mess with that one as well somehow
