[Q] Does anyone have any hardware expertise? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Nexus S (9020a) that has given me a number of problems. Now I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the hardware.
1. In ANY ROM, the phone sometimes refuses to show any display. Repeated taps of the power button don't bring anything up and then the battery has to be reinserted.
2. While charging, sometimes the touch refuses to respond, sometimes it gets inverted (upside down) and sometimes its colors are inverted.
3. In ALL Jelly Bean ROMs, there is severe battery drain to the NFC Service. And it cannot be turned off, the NFC option is greyed out.
All these bugs are relatively less frequent in CM7 (and the battery drain is nonexistent). Can anybody guide me what the problem might be? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Oye mundeya menu ty do he sheyan da pata a hega
Charging karty wqt jb screen ko touch karyga to kahin r touch ho jayga to ye masla charger r data cable ka hota h, original hoga charger to masla nhi karyga, duja ye k NFC service taqreebun sary JB roms men h, us k lye NFC.apk or TAG.apk ko delete kar dy masla hul, baqi pehly sawal ka jawb mery kol nhi na jani yhi keh sakta hn k Full wipe kar k flsah kita kar ROM nun, ya to baqyan ke trha tera v power button lung jayega kch dinon men, Volume rocker wake mode use kia karo bhai ta k power button buch jaye..

Haha, thanks for the reply.
I am using the original charger so I don't know why this still happens.
And in Jelly bean ROMs, deleting the apk is a secondary solution. Why does it happen in the first place?
Also the Nexus Root Toolkit refuses to flash stock tar to the device too. That is quite confusing too.

Hardware keyboard not responding

I'm having a strange issue with my HW keyboard.
The keyboard is working fine most of the time. But there are moments it doesn't respond (ones a week).
Example: When I open the keyboard and start writing a mail it's working fine. But after two rows text it's just not reacting anymore. Even the keyboard-backlight is turning off.
When I close and reopen the keyboard it's still not working. Even the keyboard-backlight stays off after pressing any hardware button.
Solution: Wait for 15minutes.
Tried fixes for HW keyboard lag without success.
This is what I have:
T-mobile NL rom
Rom: 1.69.114.6 NLD
Radio: 1.02.25.19
Is there anyone else experience this issue with a T-mobile ROM?
Or is there a fix for this.
Thanks in advance
Assume you have WiFi on? Go into the WiFi settings and the power mode of the WiFi, if it is set to best performance change it to best battery, or do the opposite. Not 100% sure why this works but its something to do with power and comms interferance.
Mmm have seen this fix before in other threads.
Somehow i'm losing network connection when I switch the energie bar to someting else then "Best performance". Think it have something to do with my old wireless router. Will test this today on my work. Thank Gav_
Hi there,
I have seen a simular issue on my Touch Pro as well - Keyboard is not responding as soon wifi is turned on manually.
I have encountered this first while using IM (Beejive and also QIP). Having data connections turned on and activating wifi while data connections are on will stop the keyboard from responding.
Solution for me is to turn off either the data connection after turning on wifi and / or switching wifi on/off two times.
I use the stock rom and wifi energy option is set to best battery. Is this a known issue that the keyboard has glitches with wifi?
Rom: 1.90.407.4 GER
Radio: 1.02.25.19
Performence bar
Changed the energie bar a few times yesterday. To test on which position this issue appears.
And guess what?
Keyboard stopped responding when the bar was placed on the "best performance" position.
I've configureerd it to "best battery" (think this is the name, I'm having the Dutch Rom )
Still don't understand what Wifi have to do with the keyboard. Is WM using the same driver to start / stop Wifi or keyboard?
Anyway I think/hope it's solved by setting the performance bar to "best battery".
Thanks guys
still have issues with hw keyboard
I have an unsolved Issue with the Hardware Keyboard of my HTC Fuze.
When i turn on the Wifi, the HQ keyboard becomes totally unresponsive and unusable. Keyboard lights turned off, and i have to Reset or turn off the Wifi in order to get the Keyboard back to function. (it back to life after couple of minutes)
I have searched for any possible solution in the forum and google without luck
i have tried all fixes i have found in this forum so far:
-modify the up/down repeat rate
-disabling t9/cleartype
-adjusting wifi to middle, better battery and better performance
-RR Keyboard Speed Increase.cab
After all this attempts, my Keyboard still tend to die. Anyway it works well with the Data Plan, with no Lag at all. So is definitely a Wifi Issue.
Hardware keyboard Not working for Htc touch pro
Hi, My HTC touch pro slid out keyboard was working fine but after updating ROM to English it had stop working. can anyone tell me what is the problem?
I've been having intermittent keyboard issues for a while. Sometimes it won't respond until a sort reset while other times it'll just suddenly start working again. I had no idea it was a WiFi related issue. My Kaiser did the same sometimes.
Now the damn spacebar is playing up. It either identifies a press as two spaces requiring the use of the delete key every time or it just won't recognise key presses. It's infuriating. Anyone come across this before or will it require a manual (warranty) fix?
keyboard issues
I had issues with my keyboard stopping intermittently it would work sometimes and not others. It would rotate screen when I popped it out then it wouldnt type and a few seconds later the backlight on the kbd would go out. I flashed to a different rom and that helped sometimes but not others. Then right before going to sprint and asking for a replacement I flashed back to their stock rom for a week, still no kbd. But magically when I re-locked the phone the keyboard is back to normal.. still had the phone swapped out just incase it was something else. I hardly ever use the wifi so I don't think that was my issue, it was off the whole time I had the issue. New phone works great.

[Q] V6 JMP ROM prob faced

Credits to Jigar for creating a wonderful ROM. :good:
In v6 JMP ROM of Jigar, the prob faced by me so far,
while typing reply to msg, the KB layout hides the last msg instead of moving it up.
Also Battery indicator in Settings doesnt rotate to landscape mode.
Restarting the mobile resets the battery timings..
Ninjump game is not getting started.
Camera at times doesnt record images while taking pics n shows a blank black pic.. Overall pic quality is good though .
Hope Jigar takes a note of this n provides a patch

Bro,
Its Actually problem in all Jelly bean....
Camera hangs sometimes, in my case ony first time after first boot only.
Battery jumps up n don after every boot..... dont know why but facing this from very first flashing and on every rom may its ICS or JB.
Regarding games I haven't faced anything. I use to play Tekken3, Bloody Roar II, and WWE thorugh EPSE (Playstation emulators for Android) and god swear never had faced any problem. Fighting Tiger2 and temple run 2 is also running smooth.
I am among the fans of JMP romss but now got a new crush on lewa os...

Other problems I faced are,
1. During call--> cell hangs/crashes. This is mostly in incoming calls. But this almost happened everytime I'm on call. I didn't face this issue in stock or other JB roms
2.After restart, battery % indicates higher than before!
Bug-1, posed the max problem and I had to change the ROM.
Thanks

i have questions about sony xperia l.. please help !

hey guys how are you... i have questions about xperia l because my mobile act strangely in the latest time
the first is what is the normal time for battery for xperia l under too much using like keeping playing clash of clans when the phone finish charging ?
the second : how to make brightness more lower than normal ?
the third : what is the normal amount of M Ampere for xperia L ? and when it can cause Power Ic Destroying ?
the fourth : my phone when was joining the flash mode was blinking green and keeps blinking now later when it joins flash mode it flash a green light only and in 1 seconed it disapper... so why that happens ? :S
the fifth : many apps open in start up like : Devices ( and iam not opening video app ) - com.qual.qclmassegetunnel ( and i don't know what is that any way ) - usbconnectivity ( and iam not using usb ) - photo analyzer ( and iam not opening Album App ) - and Bluetooth sharing service ( iam not opening Bluetooth ) so i end them and i don't like to end them every time and some times they open again so how to make these apps don't start in startup and if i deleted them i will cause brick for phone or no ?
and thanks for answering ( for who will answer )
okay i'll answer your questions unlike those 'read only' persons
1. actually you can use your phone while charging, but it might get longer time to charge.. but if you have no problem with it, you can use your phone, then.. just don't get it to do something that will heat up the battery or really eats much battery life even when charging as it will/might cost your phone to drop it's battery life and performance and also might damage your phone and battery itself.
2. i don't really know this one but i think this could be done by doing something i don't know.. or as an alternative, you can download white balance app on play store, and adjust the settings, not just you could get better screen calibrating but also get lower brightness. please correct me if I'm wrong at this.
3. I'm sorry i don't know this one, sadly
4. i don't know this one since I'm not even rooted all of my android phones until now, again I'm sorry.
5. I think you can delete everything but com.qual.qclmassegetunnel since it is the qualcomm thing. It will always be like that whenever it is. But someone that had experience at these kind of things might help you better than I am
I'm sorry I can't help that much mate.

1. depends on age of device
2. search for apps that overlay the screen with a black transparent screen..
3. 800ma ... 1500 is still ok
4. thats normal behavior
5. use greenify for that... Since it is system stuff you cant hardbrick the device with stoping apps... But may softbrick... If softbrick appears flash stockrom

About point number two, I've experienced that before but when it is charging. What you did to it that it became hot like that? And what is the condition of the environment or the phone at the time?

Samsung A51 Auto Brightness Bug?

Recently i just bought Samsung A51, it seems that whenever the auto brightness kick in, the setting is bugged, where the display will dim so low that the color of the display looked bleak. does anyone experience the same thing? or is it a defective unit?
The problem is solved if i restart the phone, but in a few hours the the display goes back to dim so low again. i've already reset the setting, and also do reset accessibility, but it doesn't seem to fix this problem. anyone have an idea to fix this? or do i need to go to the samsung service center in my town?

I have the same problem. how is it now? is there a solution already?
Sometimes auto-brightness not working for me. I've to disable and re-enable it to work it again.
Some working solution
Hi, i got same problem before.. it happens when we set the phone brightness too low or set auto brightness on when on bright environment..
Just simply wipe your partition cache and run graphics test...its works great for me.
To do that switch off your phone then press power button+volume up, choose to wipe cache partition then run graphics test..then reboot.

Recently, comparing the Samsung A51, it seems that always the automotive engine enters the air condition, the configuration is buggy, on the phone it is as secure as it is on the physical phone sombria. Alguém experimenting with the same thing? Or is it a union with defeito?
The problem was solved if I was rehabilitating the phone, but in some cases I was able to get a lot of security. I redefine the configuration and also redefine the accessibility, but it seems that this does not solve the problem. alguem tem uma ideia para concert isso? Or is it precisely for the Samsung service center in my city?
