[Q] Absurd Overages from verizon (note 2 & s3) - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys, just a little while ago i switched from an iphone 5 to a note 2 (best decision ive ever made) and now have an s3(long story). well anyways, the data cycle that started when i had my note had me using around 13 gigs of data. I was rooted and had data monitors on the device that had me using only 2.38 gigs. I also had never used over 2 gigs in the past when i had any other phone (ranging from iphones to the original galaxy s). now i have an s3 and we are only one day into our new cycle and nothing noticeable has happened , but it is also too soon to say that something wont happen. It basically started when we switched to the family share plan as well. I had done nothing different as of apps and such , and i also closed all my apps when not in use. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i thought that someone here could possibly give me a better reason as to why this is happening unlike verizon. called them a million times and they know less than me about the subject. any halp would be much appreciated, thanks everyone.

I had the same thing happen to my girlfriend's iPhone4s last month, which is on my data plan. Being as the iPhone4s is 3G only, I'm not sure how it managed to to rake in 16GB. Considering she typically uses less than 2GB per month, I suspect something fishy was going on with Verizon's metering. However, you can't really argue with Verizon's highly accurate charts!

gets me angry , especially when you call and they dont do anything . ughh now ive got 40 dollars worth of overages. guess ill have to start thinking about switching to at&t or something. & it happened in the same month for both of us, thats weird. too bad theres nothing you can do about it.

Install a data-usage measuring app, and verify the daily usage numbers against Verizon's:

Captivate Sent for Warranty

Just a little story to share:
My Captivate finally reached the repair facility in Texas on Wednesday, this week. Apparently, the back side speaker busted as a result of nothing (???). No sound would come out of it. I didn't drop it, it just stopped working. Anyway,
Free 2-day shipping was provided and didn't have to pay a cent. So far so good. I expect to get my phone back next week.
Anybody else have this problems?
If you are wondering why I sent it to Samsung and not ATT, it's because I didn't want to deal with the insurance company. They wouldn't be happy once they read the IMEI number and check their database That's all Im gonna say.
Yeah, apparently this is a very common issue. My wife's phone was doing that, and now mine is too... we are hesitating on sending them back because neither of us really want to be without our phones for a week...

A little work on your part..and you could have had a phone next day/second day aired to you through AT&T like I did
Mac
He said he was avoiding at$t specifically.

How do you do that? Call At&T Mobility? How much of a stink did you have to make?
I know att would ve sent me a replacement very fast, but like I said: I wanted to avoided trouble. And that meant I had to go one week without a phone.
This is what happened: Samsung let meet print a label online. I shipped my phone free in 2 day shipping and then it came to them. Their engineers worked on my phone for two days.then it was shipped back on a weekend. Basically it took a week, but I lived.
The phone was cleaned, the speakers were replaced and they look brand new. My usb port was cleaned since it was filled with dust.
Plus, I was given neat box and a 20 off coupon. Overall, it was amazing.
Samsung rocks!
(now I only need 2.2....)

Sensation Not As Great

Hey I'm new to posting here but not new to android phones and I have got to say I think that the HTC Sensation is a huge let down in alot of areas. Im comig from a heavily modded rooted and unlocked Samsung Vibrant. I find myself regretting purchasing this phone.
HTC Cons
It Freezes alittle too much for a dual core without being rooted and with saying that the premissions have not been messed with.
Its taking a long time for HTC to send the unlock update.
The sorta indestructable glass has allready scratched.
The 4g serice rarely ever comes in and I live in the city.
The Wifi calling is horrible.
Overall not worth getting and I have yet to see a Team Whiskey Rom advertised I may return this phone to T Mobile.
I may just wait and purchase a samsung galaxy s2
I just had high hopes but have been seriously disappointed
Thanks for your stunning insight and valuable contribution to the forum. Did you not watch the video?
I think you should stick around. We got temp root a couple of days ago. I also came from a heavily rooted MT4G, I get the itch all the time. Good things come to those who wait I haven't had any of the problems you mentioned...maybe try exchanging the phone?
Ok...
It bothers me when someone has been around this long and their first and only post is something like this.
Let me guess...no other device has given you any type of issues.
I cant even find the software to unlock the phone.

Posts like this makes me wonder if you even had a " heavy rooted modified Vibrant" WOW!
This post should be removed
I did have a modded Samsunf Vibrant using Team Whiskeys Rom. I sold it on ebay in hopes I was on paper getting a better phone.
TBH after using the Sensation (From a Desire HD) I am also a bit disapointed.
Oh well, there is always HTC nxt phone, which will be running Ice Cream, and will hopefully be an upgrade, not a stopgap like the Sensation.
Good yall don't like the phone ,you can leave now
You had a Samsung Vibrant and you are complaining about the Sensation, SERIOUSLY? You were able to deal with all the issues with the Vibrant and you are unhappy after having the phone for a few weeks, REALLY? I really don't get it when people complain about a phone because the one that they had before was better, especially when all their complains were documented in every single respectable blog (including this one), before the phone came out.
We root our phones because we don't like stock roms, so you have to options: 1. be patient, as you were with your vibrant or 2. return the phone and stop complaining.

Thunderbolt displays 4g but speed tests prove 3g

Buddy of mine has a thunderbolt that displays 4g lte which is accurate, our city has amazing 4g, I have my gs3 next to his thunderbolt both displaying 4 bars of lte and mine pulls down 3789kilobytes/s and his is barely at 700kilobytes/s while displaying 4g lte. you guys have any idea what could be going on? he is completely stock, not sure about what build number he is on, i assume the current. this is his 3rd thunderbolt, i have heard that the 4g sim could just be deactivated but then it wouldnt be displaying 4g would it? other than that i assume that its a radio issue because the lte radio is set to on.
You consider 3.8Mbps amazing for 4G? Around here with the newer phones I get anywhere from 15-30Mbps. Anyways, I have noticed that my Thunderbolt gets drastically lower speeds than newer 4G phones. I'll get anywhere from 3-10Mbps, while newer ones get 15-30.

Usually when discussing network speeds, it's appropriate to display them in bits but I caught that =P
You should probably tell us a little more like what ROM your using, radio, etc (assuming he is rooted & has another ROM installed)... I do notice however, that I get around 3-4 MBits less then everyone with newer 4G phones.
My friend with the SG3 gets 37mbits where we live (solid), and I'll be lucky if I even hit 30. The Thunderbolt sucks, tell him to upgrade.
Anything above 2.4mbs down can't be evdo because that is the theoretical maximumof evdo.

sorry, i dont like bits because i cant relate that to anything, ya know? i know how much a byte is but a bit is kind of misleading in my opinion. anyway he is stock rooted, and that is good to know that it is slower than new phones, but i dont know if it should be that slow, almost 3mBts slower... and he is upgrading as soon as he can. but thats two months away, i was just trying to see if its a simple fix or not.
Yeah I misread that, most people reference it in bits (all ISP's reference it in bits as well). But this is the exact issue I found, if you read my original post.

Needing to root xoom with a strange story behind it.

It was bought in Europe, the receipt says that much. I bought from a guy that said he bought at the airport and the store have gotten a few xooms that had the US version hardware, he then got an image dump from someone he knew in the states so that device now is Google Experience Certified. A fact that could back up part of the story is that i can only choose from 3-4 languages when factory resetting it, while devices sold in northern Europe usually has all languages to choose from.
I want to root it. Someone that i was surprised to see it was not since he talked about having flashed an image on it previously.
Someone has an idea from this screenshot.
Its a Xoom 32GB wifi only.

Upgrade is auto restored to account

Question, are we eligible for upgrade already? Yes we are. I checked my account today. Too bad Sprint doesn't have the Pixel by Google; only phone I'd get.

I haven't returned my note 7 and i do not have an upgrade on my account.
I have tried to return the phone but they deny it at the store. I bought it from sprint.com. i tried after the first recall and after the second. Sprint websites list the stores as a place I can take it to handle the recall.
I'm pretty fed up with this whole situation. I really just don't have the time to deal with it. I bought the phone from sprint this should be painless.
How did you het you're upgrade back on your account? I feel getting my upgrade after i trade the phone in or get refunded is the only way i will stay with sprint.

When the while recall fiasco started, I noticed that I was "eligible for an upgrade" on the website. That never went away even after I got my replacement. When the second recall was announced, I decided to go in and get the s7e. While talking to the manager as he made the exchange, I did ask him about the possibility of keeping the upgrade eligibility. However, he said that it was only active for the recall exchange and would disappear on this transaction. A few days later, I was on the account and saw that I was still eligible. Not only that, but they credited my account about $200 for the troubles and what I had paid onto the n7.
