I'm currently on AOKP JB-MR1 Build 5. Is there a way to get back to my stock rooted ROM 4.1.2? I have a Galaxy S3 on Verizon.

if u haven't unlocked ur bootloader then KIES might still detect your phone and ask for a restore..
then u must restore and root ur stock ROM.

I think you should connect to Kies on your pc thru your USB, hopefully you'll still get the restore option, or better still download SGS3 stock rom and run that, if its unrooted then you root it.

I assumed you were rooted. Yes you need to root to flash. Go to Nexus S general and sticky for root guides. Easy stuff once you read up and have a go.

I went back to GB, 2.3.6, used this as a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785672
You also have to install FOTAkill.apk before the phone connects to the network, to prevent the phone from downloading and nag you to install ICS and JB.
The end result of going back to GB, is a fast, no frills phone with very good battery life.

Use the link posted by @billford above. This has a step by step for on how to do it. Flash proper factory image by Google.

I don't see why you have to downgrade it back to 4.0 since jellybean is better in every way.

Check to see if kies will do the update first, but if not then yeah do that.
Kies software statment : no root to upgrade
Personally I tried and didn't work
I be prefer to installed cwm recovery and take ICS ROM from development is running perfect. That what I have done.

[Q] OTA Update With An Unlocked Bootloader?

Can I do an OTA update with an unlocked bootloader? Or will it brick my phone? Because anytime I try to install a custom ROM I get status 7 installation aborted.

Are you running custom rom?? If you unlocked you won't get OTA, you have to upgrade manually and only upgrade while running stock rom.
No, im using a rooted stock rom, and I unlocked the bootloader.

Why not just lock the bootloader then take the update? Your are gonna have to reroot anyways. Pressing a button to lock or unlock isnt hard

I don't think that would allow it considering the status 7 installation aborted.

If you Odin back to stock be sure and lock the bootloader first. I bricked the phone so I couldn't lock the bootloader and the OTA did not work after I Odin'ed back to stock..
What recovery are you using? That can cause a status 7. Also what rom are you exactly trying to flash? Trying to flash a rom not made for the phone can give a 7 error also

I'm running CWM and I'm getting the status 7 error. I used 'EZ-Unlock' to lock the bootloader and tried again, but got the same error. I'm using a stock rom (I believe). Is it best for me just to unroot and update?

What version of CWM? IIRC that error happened a lot when people were using an outdated version of the recovery.

[Q] how to root/flash ROMs after OTA 4.1.1 update?

I recently updated my verizon galaxy s3 to android build 4.1.1 but now I decided that I want to root my phone and flash some awesome ROMS. Droidstyles guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709) seems really easy to follow but I just want to make sure it works the new verizon baseband version I535VRBLK3 (4.1.1). Can someone please help this noob so he can flash all these bad ass ROMS I keep reading about?!
I used this tutorial ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
[GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean OTA ***UPDATED***) where you flash a different boot chain, root, then reflash the original. Works perfectly, I flashed CM10 to my GS3 this morning and it works great!

Thus is the only method so far. I'm sure droid style will update his guide soon, but right new this is it.
You can follow his guide for ROMs though
