[Q] Attempting Nandroid App Data Extraction - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello all,
I've ran into a circle of issues. I'm rooted, have touch CWM (can't remember the exact version) and had SynergyROM installed. I downloaded PowerAMP. Some people may stop me there and tell me that's the problem. During the Aroma installation, I must have ticked the option that optimizes apps and causes a long first boot. After researching this issue, I have found is a bad thing to do. I don't know why I would have chosen that option but this is the end of the path that I've come to.
What happened was PowerAMP was stuck on installing. So I attempted to find it and cancel it or uninstall, but it was no where on my phone, not in the notification bar, and was stuck on installing in the market.
So, I go about my business on my phone and it suddenly shuts down. I start it up, and it boots normally until it gets to "Optimizing app 1 of 1". I let it sit for about 30 minutes before I pulled the battery. I performed a nandroid backup, rebooted, same issue. I researched the issue and found people reporting success after wiping the cache and dalvik cache, so i did so. Now it reported "Optimizing apps 1 of 250" and went fine until it got stuck at 250. I let it sit for an hour before I pulled the battery again. I wiped data/cache/dalvik and reflashed a clean SynergyROM, the phone was working perfect. Then attempted restoring the backup, but still got the same issue.
I found a new ROM like I had been planning on doing since my phone was wiped anyway, and download Nandroid Manager to extract the data from my apps as I had read in the past was possible. Upon exploring the backup, I noticed the month and date were correct, but the year was 1980. There is NO data, in the data/data area except com.android, com.samsung and com.verizon packages.
Am I missing something? Why is all the .apk information in the ext4.tar but NONE of my app data remains? Am I screwed? I had an older backup from January in which I found the same apps with older data and that restored fine. I have Expense Manager, for example, and I started using it in the last week of January. Once I setup my budget I backed up. Since then, I've entered in all of my income and expenses and was planning to backup before the PowerAMP issue. Everything was working smooth, no tweaks made to the ROM, no issues whatsoever until now. So I can only restore data from the old backup and not the latest one.
Thank you so much in advance.
P.S.: Extra question, but not nearly as important - I can't seem to find a consistent answer. When performing a nandroid recovery, from say, in this case SynergyROM, does it matter what ROM I've flashed? Doesn't the nandroid recovery basically wipe the slate clean and lay everything back out just like you would do when replacing carpet, or a bandaid? Just a curiosity.
EDIT: I just discovered Titanium PRO can extract. Bought it. Tried it. Expense Manager crashes. Now, unless Expense Manager is installed, it doesn't even show up in extraction.
I have another idea - is there a way to EDIT a nandroid backup? For instance, can I REMOVE PowerAMP from the nandroid backup and restore through CWM without having to go through all of this? If it was just one app I wouldn't care but..I have at least 15 different apps with a couple months worth of data :/ My fault for sure..but I still harbor faith in this community nonetheless.

EDIT 2: PROBLEM SOLVED! Woo hoo! For anyone with a similar issue, I suppose I was just too frustrated to realize all courses of action. So this is the sequence in which I got the data back:
1: Installed updated app straight from the market, made sure it was closed and not in memory
2: Opened Titanium PRO and selected the nandroid backup
3: Recovered DATA ONLY
4: Opened app
5: Danced.
Hopefully this helps anyone with this similar issue.

[Q] Widgets don't fully load and unable to get Android Market apps to download.

I've come across an interesting (at least now) issue w/ my Samsung Captivate. I don't know if the last OTA update is the source if I'm just "lucky". I'd rooted it a couple of weeks ago. Only loaded Titanium Backup and Busybox. I don't recall rebooting the phone since the update was installed. But I had back on Monday. When it started back up the widgets would not fully load. I had let it sit for a while and nothing. On rebooting a few times and trying different launchers, TWLauncher, ADW, and LauncherPro the issue kept occuring. Then I noticed I could not get the phone to download any new or update apps from the Android market. It would say it was getting ready to download but nothing more. To top it off the Check for Updates option would not respond from the setting menu for the phone.
After trying a few things I wound up reloading the update.zip used to root the phone and after the reboot it started working. Rebooted a couple of times to make sure it was behaving and it did. That was a big relief.
However just today I'd rebooted it again and the same issue reoccurred. Upon reloading the update.zip it once again worked as normal again.
I was considering unrooting but hesitant due to this.
Has anyone come across this or have suggestions of the root cause of this?
Did you use Titanium Backup to restore data to your phone? There is a known issue with TB if you restore your Accounts settings with it. It will cause the unable to download from market issues. When you do the restore, remove the checkmark from Accounts and just reinput your account info manually.

Myaccount and wifi calling

I froze myaccount and wifi calling with TB but they still appear under running apps. I did it again and rebooted but they still appear under running apps...why?

try this
MAKE BACKUP IN NVFLASHED CWM BOOT UP FIRST!
heres how i solved this problem on 5 g2x phones.
for my account there are 2 copies on phone usually. one you wont see in app drawer. its version 1.0 and it is used so tmobile can remote access your device to troubleshoot. its supposed to be a brand new thing they are trying out (the was told to me by tmobile pda tech support). you will see it in titanium backup next to the other one (my first g2x had both installed, the others had the only version 1.0 installed and not 5.** with it). you may not have 5.** depending.
wifi calling seems to be very intergrated into the phone and it will run even if frozen. though it may not activate, just run in the background. with the new titanium backup 3.8.* you can backup system .apks and not just data. i backed up my account, then froze, uninstalled it (or both depending on if you have both), the after i restarted titanium backup and froze wificalling. then backed it up. after i uninstalled it (THIS WILL CAUSE IT TO FORCE CLOSE/CRASH PHONE). i was able to barely press power off option after holding power button down and tapping quickly/timed between force close windows (LOL). but you may just have to pull the battery.
after reboot, no more wificalling or my account. plus they are backed up with .apks and data as system files in titanium backup if you want to reinstall
reinstalling wificalling also caused same force close problem i think? just reboot after. also i rebooted into CWM after making sure everything booted and worked right and then i went to advanced and fixed permissions.
ive done this on 5 tmobile g2x phones and it worked every time
I haven't flashed cwm yet because there isn't a stable rom, plus I'm still a newbie and want to be sure I know what I'm doing before flashing.
I do have two myaccount's also (both frozen)...
As soon as I flash cwm I'll try that out...thanks bud!

[Q] Strange issue with Nexus S

Ok, I tried to avoid bothering people to solve this but I am just genuinely lost.
The other day I finally took the plunge and rooted my Nexus S and everything worked perfectly. So I decided to install CM7 7.0.3 Stable so I did a Nandroid backup of my current rom, then flashed CM7. Again, everything looked fine. So I proceeded to flash the google apps. As soon as I did that and logged into my google account, the market started going nuts trying to download all of my apps. The count in the notification bar was actually higher by a substantial margin than the apps that it was actually installing. After this happened, the first few downloads worked then the rest of them started to fail. So, at this point, I had a successfully installed rom and all of the google apps worked perfectly, except I couldn't download anything through the market.
At this point, I thought it would be best to go back to my restore point through Nandroid. Once I reverted back to my stock 2.3.4, the problem was still there. I wasn't able to download anything from the market. So, in my frustration, I went out drinking with my buddies and ended up crashing on a couch. In the morning, I woke up, my phones battery toast so I got into my truck, plugged it in, booted up and voila, market works again.
This led me to believe it was a server side issue. So today, I reinstalled the CM7 and google apps and tried again. Same issue. Now I am wondering, do I leave CM7 on for 24 hours to see if it fixes itself again or do I try to find another copy of the google apps. The ones I have are the ones I dl'd through rom manager.
Before anyone asks, I have tried all the usual suspects:
-Cleared the market data / Cache
-Cleared the Cache in Clockwork
-Cleared the Dalvik Cache in Clockwork
-Tried reflashing the google apps
No dice.
Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas for me?

[Q] Gapps crashing on boot (PA 2.52)

This is the second time I've had this problem. I'm running Paranoid Android 2.52 on my Infuse, and everything's been working just fine ever since I ported it. I've installed no new apps and have changed nothing whatsoever, but suddenly, Gapps has begun crashing and this takes other processes down with it.
On boot, Gapps will immediately crash, which takes Talk down with it, and sometimes Trebuchet. And a handful of my apps are crippled by this problem, as well. I can't download anything from the Play Store, the download immediately errors out. If I try to create a picture message, Messaging will crash (though regular texting is okay). Titanium Backup crashes on load, and I'm sure there's plenty more errors I haven't found yet. And the little WiFi or mobile data icons in the notification bar never turn blue, they're permanently grey now. But I still have the ability to use data and make calls (I can connect to Facebook and dial my voicemail, anyway).
I've done some searching into other people with crashing Gapps, and one suggested a fix by wiping the cache and dalvik cache, but this didn't improve anything. Someone fixed it by formatting datadata, which I don't have as I'm on JB. Another suggested it's a shortage of storage space in the apps folder, but I'm showing hundreds of megabytes left in that particular folder alone. I've used a very small percentage of my phone storage altogether. Phone, internal, and external SDs are very low in storage use. When searching for apps, I prioritize a very small file size.
The first time this occured, it was as sudden and inexplicable. The first time was on an older version of PA JB. One day it worked, the next day, after making no changes of any kind, Gapps started crashing with the same symptoms. After enough searching and failing, I decided I was okay with just wiping back to stock and moving up to the latest (at the time) PA, so first I experimented with flashing the newest compatible version of Gapps, and then EVERYTHING on my phone would crash on boot, and it was completely unusable. So I Odin'd back to stock, worked my way up to PA 2.52 a few months ago. The release had only been a couple days old at the time. And everything was perfectly solid and stable, up until just today, again with no changes made on my part.
The only thing I can report is that this time it began happening while I was watching a YouTube video, which I tend to do a lot on my phone, over WiFi. I haven't installed any new apps in weeks, I haven't changed any settings since I first ported PA. Just, suddenly, BAM. Gapps is completely unusable.
Anybody have any idea what the issue is and how to fix it?
Be sure you are using this version of gapps http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
If not, uninstall the version you are using, wipe cache and dalvik and install from above link. Also be sure not to restore from TiBu anything more than just the app. (no data). gl

That is the precise version of Gapps I'm using. Also, I never performed any restore from Titanium, because when this happened last time, it prevented Titanium from loading, so I couldn't make a backup. I made a Nandroid backup from CWM, but then I discovered that no app could restore from the Nandroid backup because it's JB. So, this current port is entirely clean and from scratch, basically.
This is the exact process I went through when going back to stock and building up to JB:
UCLB3 Return to Stock - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705260
Unofficial CM9 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601844
PA 2.52 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742073
There was absolute minimal use on the phone between steps. Only use was to prepare the phone for the next steps. All instructions I followed are found in those threads and it all went without error.
You did a great job with the process. I am on a different rom (4.1.2 using Scott's build as a base) and am using 20120726 gapps with no prob... may be worth a shot

Well, the last time I had this problem and I tried updating Gapps, it rendered my phone completely unusable, everything would crash on boot, requiring the return to stock. And to be totally honest, this is the week before finals for me, and I just don't have the time to do a whole new back-to-stock-and-build-up right now, lol. So I'm hoping there's a solution that doesn't require all that time and work, because I won't have the time until next Monday night or Tuesday morning. And that's a long time to go with a phone that doesn't work properly.
Either way, thanks for your help so far.
It also appears that some of my apps have started vanishing. I haven't uninstalled anything, but I noticed that my XDA app is no longer there. Just... vanished. And there are some apps I have on my home screen that, when I try to open them from the home screen, I get a small error saying "App is not installed," and that app is not present in the app drawer, despite its shortcut still being on a home screen.
A long series of bizarre errors, this.
How come you gt to have all the fun ?? lol
I will try to find time tomorrow to download the rom and see if I can duplicate the errors and go from there.
I made a tiny breakthrough last night. I was going through my app manager and saw that, despite my clearing the cache in CWM, some apps still had HUGE caches reserved. So I cleared the cache of apps like GooManager, Play Store, YouTube, G-Mail, and any other apps that had enormous caches, and the problem seems to have subsided as a result.
I remember doing something similar last time, and it only worked for a couple hours before the problem came back again. So I'll keep you updated on whether or not the issue does come back. But so far, it seems to've done the trick.

Nice! There is an app in Play called Cachemate (free) that I like for stuff like this. I use it every 2-3 days.
Welp, it's been about a week since I cleared the caches and things. I also moved all the apps to the SD card that would still work. I found an app (DroidSail) that will force-move apps to the SD, regardless of whether or not the stock app manager will allow it. Such as Facebook. There's no reason the 33mb of Facebook can't be on the SD. And a couple other apps like that, the real unimportant, non-functional ones.
Anyway, it's been about a week now and so far, so good. That seems to've done the trick. But why does that happen? What makes this kind of maintenance necessary? And, actually, while I'm at it, what cache am I clearing in CWM if it's not this one? And why does my phone require somewhat regular cache-clearing? Is it a PA thing, or a JB thing, or is just a me thing because I've done all this to my phone?
Either way, final verdict:
Anyone having these problems in the future. just clear your caches using the above methods.

WhatsApp deletes chat history

Hi,
i open this discussion due to a problem that affect my phone since last september periodically. I have a Realme 8 pro, one day, in september, it said a thing like "there is a problem with your chat history, we can recover it from an existing backup", i had a backup so i started the recovery. And here started to have problems. Whatsapp Backups i have are more or less 2,35 Gb, there are seven years of chat so they are heavy. The teleohone has difficulty to recover everything. The first recover never goes fine. I have to unistall the app, install again and start a new recovery. But also this recovery fails sometimes. After september, this thing happened again after a month after the use of whatsapp web, so i stopped to use it and worked more or less fine, until today. I woke up and the phone said again "there is an error..." so i tried again with the recovery. After an hour stuck on 30% i closed the app so the backup wasn't complete. So i unistalled the app, reinstalled and used a backup of yesterday. That didn't work, the app said " there is a problem restoring this backup, do you want to try another one?" (something like that), i used another one, stuck again, re-open the app, half completed backup again. Then the error screen popped up again I re-did everything and after a day recovering stuff it SEEMS to work. I am tired. The thing i wanted to asl you all is, there is a way to manually recover chats without whatsapp process, in case there is the necessity again, or maybe if someone knows hot to resolve the problem. Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.
