[Q] System App not installed?? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Using root explorer I moved an app into the system/app folder, changed permissions, and it still isn't showing in the app tray. Any ideas would be helpful.

[Q] pushing app to system

so it seems its a system limitation when using dialer apps where the missed call notification doesn't get cleared when opening the dialer app.. the stock phone app needs to be opened in order to clear it...
i'm running cm7.1 on nexus s 4g.. just installed touchpal dialer.. i read on this site
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2007024/push-my-apk-to-system-app
that you could push the app into the system folder and that would address the problem.. i downloaded the app from the market so no idea how to get the apk..
i assume if i could get a hold of the apk.. i could use root explorer to change the persmissions, then move the file into system/app and then install the app??
any help would be appreciated.
p.s. all i really want is the search feature of these apps which stock dialer doesn't have.. which is a big oversight by google not to have this.. so if any other solutions are available.. great.. love to hear them
The apk should be somewhere in /data/app, there are also apps that let you backup apk files to sdcard.
Afterwards remount /system to read+write and push the apk file to /system/app.
do i need to uninstall the app from /data/app after? or should i leave that file in there
Using Root Explorer, find the apk in /data/app, long-press and select move. Navigate to /system/app, mount r/w (by pressing the button at the top), and paste. Long-press the apk again, select permissions and set to rw-r--r--, then mount r/o and reboot.
Voila! Your user app is now a system app. You can also use Titanium Backup to convert a user app to system app and vice versa. As I have the paid version I'm not sure if this feature is available in the free version.

thanks.. seems to work now.. i'm surprised apps can't automatically install in that way to notifications can be dealt with.. guess they don't have permissions to install into system?..appreciate the help.. all works now!!
so seems doesn't like to work like that.. every time i reboot i get a force close popup... then i have to delete the app and restart.. had permissions set correctly and everything

System App

Hello. Firts off I have a two part question. I have a sensation 4g hboot 1.27.xxx running bruce2728 cm10 rom, s-off, 4ext recovery touch, fw3.33. I have never had any major problems with this rom. The latest update to 10/25 I lost the sound recorder app. I downloaded the apk and installed it and it shows up in the system/app folder but not in the app drawer. I have tried to install the app from es file manager as well as placing the .apk in the system/app file and rebooting with same results. My first question is in regaurd to this, how do I install this app as a system app? I have done this before with superSU but it isn't working this time. My second question is how do you know what permissions to set for an .apk? I know how to fix permissions via recovery and also how to change them with root explorer but not, how to figure out what they are supposed to be. An explanation in layman's terms please would be appreciated.

*disregard my comment. I observe i have the apk in system folder too but not appearing in the drawer. Apologize for the misunderstanding*
It will show up once you set the right permission... to know what permission to set, just check other apps permission in the same folder. I usually use root explorer, long touh the apk and select permission.
Cant upload pic. Link shows how the permission should look like.

I have checked the permissions and they were the same as all the .apks in the file and it still doesn't show up in the app drawer. I even tried to fix permissions thru recovery and after reboot, still nothing.
The permissions for everything in the file are rw-r--r--.

I cant figure out why it doesnt show on mine either. I think it is link with another app where you can record from there, the note app for example (found an info that its related to the voice command but not sure).
I did found this on GPlay. Not sure if it will work but it seems to have a good review

Edit: I tried it and it works
Thanks i'll give it a try. It worked but now I have upgraded to 10/27 and its in there.

[Q] Installing system apps on Rooted Xperia Arc S

So today I got a new Xperia Arc S from my uncle that was rooted and flashed with a custom ROM and Kernel.
The problem is, the most important system apps are missing, Internet and Play store .
I searched around a bit and found the apk's and the guide said to just put them in /system/app which I did using ES file explorer but after I restarted the phone the apps are not installed and do not appear on the App list.
Could anyone help me or tell me how to install system apps?
For the moment I can download apps from my other phone and bluetooth them across.
Hi,
i recommend root Explorer lite.
Then copy the file(s) to /system/app . Then click long on the file and choose permissions. Then set it to
rw-r-r.

[Q] Reinstalling status bar

Hi everybody,
Today I tried to install a new SystemUI.apk (StatusBar) on my phone... I downloaded the apk and pushed it to /system/app and set the permissions as rw-r-r.
Unfortunately this app didn't work, leaving me with no status bar at all right now. In fact, when I navigate to the SystemUI.apk file in /system/app and click it, the root browser I am using tells me the app is not installed! When I try to install it, it starts installing but then stops and says "Application not installed".
I had, of course, backed up the old SystemUI.apk file with Titanium Backup before proceeding, but now the backup has just disappeared from the Titanium Backup app. As an extra precaution, I had also copied the old APK file to my SD card before trying to install a new one, but now whenever I try to reinstall it it also tells me "Application now installed"...
Please help me! How can I restore my status bar on my phone??
Thank you for all your help.
Try too change the permissions of the old systemUi then restart the phone, status bar will work. Me too had the same problem once

Thanks! I changed the permissions to SystemUI.apk and SystemUI.odex to rw-r-r just a few minutes before you posted that answer and it worked! Thanks for confirming it though.
U r welcome always

How to install an APK as system app

Hi,
I recently used "System App Remover" and deleted a system app "amigo_dynamicweather.apk". That app did not create a backup before deleting it. Anyways, I got that apk somehow but when I try to install it manually, I get "App not installed". So I tried to install it by moving it to system/app folder and set permissions to RW-R-R using root explorer, rebooted and nothing. App was in the system/app directly but I cannot see it installed. The permissions still are RW-R-R. How can I install it? Please help.
