Hi, I updated my rom yesterday to cm10.1 3rd of march build (from the first of March build) and have since then lost all adb access.
I have tried re flashing the rom and I have tried adb kill/start-server and have had no luck.
I am on adb version 1.0.31.
Any help will be appreciated.

You need to update the adb and fastboot.. If you got android sdk manager installed you can update the platform tools and tools packages

Why isn't adb 1.0.31 the latest version then?
I have fully factory reset my phone + made sure all drivers are up to date and i still can't seem to get adb access, i am sure that the problem is within the phone though because i cant even get adb access through terminal emulator.

Hi,
if you still have Adb from your original S-off'ing, then just install the latest HTC Sync, and this will update your drivers.
Should then be able to flash radio without issue.
I'm not really sure how all the Android SDK stuff works. I've flashed new ROMs, kernels, modems, bootloaders, all that stuff on my phone, so I know the basics of how all that works. I've installed drivers for the phone, but no matter what I do, it won't show in the list of devices on ADB.
I'm currently running on the latest Miui (from Miui.us, not one of the ports).
Is there some trick to getting it to work, or what?

Did you turn on developer options and enable USB debugging on your phone? If you don't do that adb will never see your device.

I didn't have to enable it, as it's enabled by default in Miui. Doesn't make a difference.
U need to install the Nexus S Drivers to get ADB to work while u r running CM, MIUI.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html and http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-I515MSAVZW
I have also found that my captivate never showed up under "adb devices" but it would work fine when I used other commands.

A recent root exploit I published for Motorola devices, Motochopper, should do the trick for rooting the Qualcomm-based variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4, including the AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile branded models.
Download the exploit here:
http://vulnfactory.org/public/motochopper.zip
Instructions:
Extract the entire contents of the zip file.
If you are using Windows, ensure you have installed the latest Samsung USB drivers available for your phone.
Ensure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your device.
Connect your device to your PC via USB.
If you are using Windows, navigate to the extracted directory and execute "run.bat". If you are using Linux or OS X, navigate to the extracted directory in a terminal and execute "./run.sh".
Approve the ADB connection from your PC on your device.
Warning:
At this point, since there are no custom recoveries or stock images available, it may not be possible to repair your device should you accidentally break it. Please be aware of this before performing any modifications to your phone.
As always, future OTA updates may remove the ability to regain root access, so proceed with caution when updating. Enjoy!

You seem to be having issues getting ADB to start. Is USB debugging mode enabled on the device? Have you installed USB drivers for this device on your PC? What operating system are you using?

Sorry about that, just needed to update the version of ADB I was including. It should work fine now. Try downloading a fresh copy from the same link and trying again.
I've updated the instructions to mention that you will need to approve the ADB connection from your PC on the device.

Can a custom recovery now be installed using something like goo manager, or do we need unlocked bootloader for that?

Yes! Thank you! I was going to wait until a viable root method came along before picking up my AT&T S4...now I don't have to wait at all.
By the way, you may want to start another thread in the AT&T S4 forums. People over there may not come to this forum all that often.
my turn tonight cant wait....

Adb is actually pretty basic and you can get it by downloading the android SDK or a simple program like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790

OK. Unplug your phone then plug it back in and you should see something like USB connection, choose charge only. If you haven't enabled developer options yet do so by going into settings, then About phone, software info, then tap on Build number like 7 times. After that go back into settings then development options then enable USB debugging and you should pretty much be set.

Yes ioroot updated today with iorooot25 for KitKat. Not sure if it works as Verizon is still on jelly bean. Those root methods that are made for like every device (like kingo, etc) never seem to work these days.

Yes. Head over to recovery and use:
adb pull /sdcard/ D:\Nexus5_backup

Forgot to add that he is not rooted nor does he have a custom recovery. That doesn't make a difference I'm assuming where ADB is concerned?

I don't know whether adb pull works on stock recovery as I haven't tried it on stock recovery. You will need to try that out.
However, if USB Debugging is enabled on that device, you can boot up the phone normally till the lockscreen and use adb pull. It will work as long as USB debugging is enabled from developer options.

No, he is just a 'regular' user. Not like us that constantly tinker / hack with our phones. He opened it up and used it. Never rooted or did anything else to it....

I see. Then most probably he didn't enable the debugging. In that case, you need to try adb pull in stock recovery or wait for anyone else to answer whether it works in stock or not.
