Before having an HTC device, i was using Netfront (by access) to browse the internet. I installed the latest 3.5 technical trial version which runs until the end of November to see whether it was better than opera. Although the operation is quite different in principal, the rendering speed was far quicker than opera. Progam loading time and closing were also much much faster. Loading sites like facebook was not a problem, unlike opera that seems to struggle.
However, the downside....... if loading a very intesnive page like facebook, when exiting the application, the screen became corrupt in places......... simlilar in looks to the broken glass issue. I've now uninstalled it, and had no problems with the display since - however it is a shame as web loading was quicker and worked with many sites that opera can't handle.
Anyone else given it a go?
I tried facebook, and didn't have this broken glass issue. Tried a few other intensive pages but no issue either... Still my favourite browser the past year.
It was only noticable after extensive use of heavy web sites. The application that i noticed the screen corruption was mainly secondtoday although i did notice some weird effects in the mail application - several vertical lines on one occaisionbut mainly little dashes appearing when looking at an empty inbox.
I will probably try it again, as the browsing experience was good. I assume your are using 3.5 technical trial version?
UPDATE - TUrning off virtual canvas seems to have stopped it happening for now. Any suggestions?
How is the web browsing after the last update?
I know the stock browser I hear is poop.
Dolphin/Chrome, etc., just how is the browsing is it smooth?
For some reason, anything based on stock (ICS browser+, dolphin, maxthon) all start to heat up my tablet like crazy. Chrome is deliciously smooth but you can't fast scroll like you can on the stock. Firefox is crazy great too except due to the crap fancy motion blur animations, the browser stutters when you scroll too fast. Opera mobile isn't optimized for both our resolution and our processor so it lags and stutters like crazy. The browser scene is generally a clusterf*ck. I can't even install scriptish on firefox ;_;.
It is pretty smooth, but +1 on scrolling, different windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec in build.prop doesn't seem to change this one.
I'm using Chrome mostly and it's ok, apart from scrolling(!), it's just too slow. But apart from the aforementioned, try Boat Browser.
I'm using the stock browser, chrome and dolphin and just change whatever browser I'm using based on how well it's handling a given website. Some sites like chrome, some dolphin and some stock. I think this approach works best as there's no one perfect browser for all sites (for now).

He, I have a fellow crusader.
I'm using Opera Mobile, mostly. It does do fancy things with especially the font size -- it's tiny. I do like Boat, but it has a limited number of speed dials (i.e., insufficient to me ) whereas Opera allows an unlimited number. I guess I should try Chrome, but doesn't that lack Flash support? (I know Flash is meant to die anyway, but lots of sites still use it extensively.)

Does it make us the Templars?
I like Chrome and I find myself needing flash quite rarely these days, especially for the websites I'm visiting on the tablet. Hopefully it can stay this way, but I'd really like the scrolling bar from the stock browser! Scrolling in Chrome is just painfully slow, I can't seem to find a way to solve this.
And, talking of privacy issues, I actually do hope Google in fact doesn't store our passwords to the sync of bookmarks etc. Probably NSA doesn't need them to, as a simple brute force attack would suffice? Wonder what encryption they're using.
I've tested and adopted Maxthon HD... Even though it sometimes bugs a bit, I really like it : it's almost as good as a desktop browser :good:
It supports flash, uses Webkit as well as Chrome but scrolling is ok.
Regarding the firmware update, i get less ANR but no other changes, it's not more fluid than it used to be...
I've heard many comments about JB being smooth and fast interface wise, what about its browser performance (be it stock or 3rd party)?
I personally hesitate to switch to JB from CleanRom because JB is not yet mature and I'm the kind of person who just wants everything to work (a bug kind of annoys me even if it doesn't affect me, is there anybody out there who's like me ?) But the thing I really hate about ICS (tried many roms and browsers and various tweaks) and HOX is the browsing performance. I don't care what the benchmark numbers say (I've personally benched mine and the numbers are all inline with the published numbers), I just want a half-close-to desktop experience on the phone when it comes to browsing speed. I mean our phone is equipped with such cutting edge components and all I want is for a website to load in a couple of seconds (or what about 3, or even 4) , consistently. But more often than not, that progress bar just keeps crawling and crawling and you just wonder what the heck it's doing. It's not the internet speed, as speedtest shows consistently fast speed on both wifi and LTE. That means the data of the websites has no problem reaching the phone, but the phone simply struggles to render the pages, even with all the power of the snapdragons.
Can I hope that the upcoming JB roms (after HTC releases official JB upgrade) can fix or at least improve this issue?
I dont have any problems browsing on chrome cleanrom 4.5. What sites give you problem? I havent had any rendering problems.
But yeah, JB browser is a lot faster.
You're just being incredibly paranoid, and you even mention it how the smallest of bugs will bother you. What you are mentioning about the loading bar getting stuck, has nothing to do with your connection, or even your phone. It's usually caused by advertisement networks on the websites you visit.. You see, when you visit a website, chrome requests data literally hundreds of times from multiple sources. Ad networks, jquery calls, and other page elements will naturally take longer to be served since they're coming from different servers in different locations.
It's the same on iOS, but safari makes it look like the page is done loading... But it's really not, just check the spinning thing next to the carrier name.
So, unless you have specific, reproducible examples to show us that chrome is "simply struggling to render pages", I have to say it's not that. Sit back, relax and enjoy the awesome browsing experience on the One X. The Chrome experience on Jelly Bean is exactly the same.

You will notice it when you use Chrome on the desktop too. While a page loads, it will say "waiting for blahblah.com" and it's usually some sort of ad site.
I haven't noticed much of a difference between my HOX and my N7. As noted, it really has more to do with the sites you visit.
If your phone is rooted, you can always install and ad-blocker on your phone.
Through an ip blacklist, this will allow your phone to block known advertising companies. For web and in-app advertising.
Not only does it stop the whole "in your face" advertising, but it will also speed up page loads and save you data etc.
I use AdAway personally.

I've been on MIUI 2.8.24 v3 for a few days now, and it's noticeably faster. Like you said, JB is still in its infancy so there's plenty of work, but its stable enough that I've had no problems using it daily for the past few days. The real problems I've experienced are in MIUI themselves. Like others have said, CleanROM or another highly refined ROM will probably run pretty darn well.
The version of Chrome just released stopped me from either throwing this thing at a wall or (more likely) unlocking and flashing. Up until today, every browser, including Chrome, would load to 90%, then hang for ten seconds or so. If I tried to interact with the page in any way before it finished loading, I'd get the dreaded "xxxx isn't responding, Would you like to close it?.... Wait - OK".
This version (25.0.1364.169), will let me scroll around freely and start reading text while it continues loading pictures and ads. Amazing!
Of course, I will probably unlock and flash a rom eventually, I just wanted to use it for a few months with warranty and maybe wait for 4.2.2 to be released first. I have had very few complaints with the device besides that hanging/error message issue.
I still prefer the stock browser with the Labs 'swipe from edge' hidden address bar feature, but maybe something like that will come to Chrome eventually. Does anyone know how to auto-hide the address bar and tabs in this version of Chrome? Meantime I will use Chrome for all sites where full screen viewing is not vital.

Hmm it's still very laggy compared to CROMI and stock browser I'm afraid.
I agree with sbdags cromi and stock browser combo is smoother and more responsive, even compared to latest chrome release . Actually I've found that to be the case for any other browser as well.
Seconded.
I too have a huge performance increase with the new chrome. I'm on CM10.1 so the improvements must not be specific to stock. Glad you posted this :good:; I'd given up on chrome because of laginess. Now I can have my "other devices tab" and good performance at the same time. Biggest noticeable change for me is (as you found) scrolling while pages load.
Noticed the Chrome update this a.m.
Tried it on the usual sluggish java heavy websites still not as snappy as stock under CROMi + B2Ram.
Chrome is slightly better with this update...it's just not a preference with me over stock or BOAT ad free.
For the people using chrome on stock its the Brest version so far. A lot of things got better. Page loading is a lot better when compared to the older version. And the scrolling is great too.
I thought that browser2ram worked with Chrome as well, or was that a specially tweaked version?
@sbdags: I thought I'd seen a Chrome-capable version in CROMI before?
If this is the case, well, then Chrome is just still slower than stock anyway. I love speed dials, but I hate them being so limited in number. The sync capabilities were nice, but ever since the stock browser started supporting sync too I haven't looked back. I traditionally hated stock browser -- be it on Android or on Windows -- but the current one on Android is pretty good with browser2ram attached.
Just thought id chime in on this. Unfrtunately cannot report the same decreased lag with the new Chrome update. In fact, id say it is worse. Unusable actually, which is no loss for me as i use stock...... which is a lag-machine as well, just slightly less so. Ironically, of all the websites i visit regularily, XDA seems to be the most taxing and almost always will produce a FC if i dont let it fully load before attempting to scroll. When i test a browser update i come here to see how fast the page loads!!!
At any rate, i deal with it and still love this tab....

Agreed, google chrome is slow, and it wont allow flash, fck google chrome, a browser is useless without flash bc you can barely access any content that isnt text or pics, accessing content is the whole point of the internet. Browsing was a headache until i started using stock browser with B2RAM. browser2RAM more than doubles browsing speed, responsiveness, and smoothness. Stop dicking around with stock ASUS tf700, it is a waste of your time. All the time you spend waiting to browse the web can be spent on ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING.

Web content is in HTML and images - Flash is a proprietary disease and must die as soon as possible.
Hi All, I have had three phone for the last 2 weeks. This week the phone has frozen at least 3/4 times a day while browsing. Generally happens when scrolling down, I use the Google Chrome browser. The only way to reactivate the screen is by pressing power button to turn off the screen and turning the screen back on again. I just hope it's not a hardware fault ? O just wondering if there a setting I need to change.
Chrome was having issues.
Try another browser like opera see if that changes anything
Mate, don't use Chrome. It is one of the worst browsers on Android. I recommend using the Brave browser or an older version of Firefox.

Thanks for your replies guys. I take it the concensus is not to use Chrome on Android phones ? Will try out Firefox for now as that seems to be a well known browser.
I was getting it loads on my XZ2 brand new X5II and gutted to still get it.
I've switched to DuckDuckGo browser now, pretty seamless so far.
Also, many websites, even the biggest ones, are poorly optimized for smartphones. Lots of ads or badly implemented scrips, lazyload etc. But most problems are usually caused by a browser.
I've had this issue too, but ironically with Brave, as frostitomik suggested to use instead of Chrome .
Quick fix for me is to use the task switcher soft key, but choose the same browser app again. It seems to unlock it.
Same here in different Apps. Never saw it on my other phones. I think it's a Sony issue.
I am using sony as well, but you could search on Google, people are experiencing the same problem on different phone models that could be dated back to 2019.
A different app is usually still using a chromium base browser, did you try firefox?
Tho, I found the freezing "app" problem would only occurred when u are browsing website with a relatively heavy load in images and videos, or a very long document.
My personal solution is simply pressing the overview button and going back to the browser.
