Hello,
This is the first time I am using Android so please understand that I know basically nothing about it.
So I received a refurbished note 10.1 (software 4.0.4) with about 50% of battery left. I played with it like 3 hours and then updated to 4.1.1 (or 4.1.2), battery went down to like 10% so I plugged the charger in and kept playing. After further 30mins I realised my battery still goes down (8%). I had a quick look in Google and many people are saying that after updating to JB tablet takes very long time to charge or doesn't charge at all. I thought mine will charge slowly so I left it overnight plugged in. I woke up with 7%...
I tried charging it with a USB cable connected to a TV, in the first hour it charged to 8 and after that (about 3h) it stayed the same.
So the question is: Is it the charger, software or is it just a faulty tablet?
What I would like to try is to downgrade it back to 4.0.4 but I am not sure how to do that (or if it is safe) with such low battery level. Is it possible to downgrade when tablet is off?
Thank you

Factory reset or reflash the firmware JB you flashed .
But i would return to the seller has you have no evidence JB is the problem as you only had the tablet 3 hours .
Flash any firmware via Odin min requirements 30% battery to be safe .

Have you tried charging from an actual power outlet I don't believe that you can charge them via tv, pc or any other device only via an actual power outlet.
As far as roling it back to ics I believe you would have to flash it but don't take my advice on that one, maybe someone else could advise?
Also no I would upgrade or down grade firmware without a fully charged battery.
I found that mine was charging worse after jb update I actually factory reset it and its a tiny bit better, I still find though that if I want to charge it fast its best to turn it off and let it charge, I also noticed that the biggest culprit for draining the battery atleast on my device is Skype just having it running in the background drains it heaps.

Yeah.. but what if I can't charge it?
Can I factory reset (I believe that's via recovery mode?) when battery is almost dead?

I left it charging the whole night using the included charger (It looks like an original one) and as I said it only dropped by 1% (tablet was off the whole process)
From what I know it does charge through TV's and stuff but it just is a lot slower.
And I have no apps running, wifi off, gps off - everything off. RAM cleared
// After about 3 hours of charging through a TV it went up by 1%...
I left it charging through a TV because if a normal AC didn't help I thought it may be something to do with the charger.

Factory reset is in settings under personal heading its the backup/reset tab obviously make sure you back up your stuff first or you will loose it, this won't role it back to ics but might help. Also I have never found that any of my android devices charge via another Device only wall outlet they do maintain the power level there at but don't really charge.
Do you have another ac adapter I youncould use to test with try a different ac adapter if possible.
charging cable likely cause
I have had very bad luck with factor Samsung cables.. I would Use a different usb cable and wall plug usb brick.. make sure its output is equal to or above the original Samsung charger .
This is likely why the device was returned to begin with. As most of us know refurb devices are usually just open box customer returns. Often are just factory reset and resold .

It might work check the voltage to see if its the same and use your usb cable, they use mini usb I believe. Thats the other thing the usb cable that you using might be stuffed. The cable on galaxy tab 7 looks 100% but it doesnt work at all, as erica_renee said samsung chargers aren't the greatest.
I use a Belkin charger much stronger than samsung original
From what I've read, one review says that there is no way to use a S3 charger. + it has 1A
Apparently note uses different pin configurations..
I have no idea what to do now... :<
What about finding a galaxy tab charger?

Right, before I get one, at the moment Im trying to use iPhone charger with the standard samsung cable. I showed a red cross (what I would expect it to show). I then tried to hold the volume up while plugging it in (Ive read on one forum that it helps, not sure what it does but worth trying) and it jumped up by 1% - no red cross now... I have no idea what Im doing or why no red cross is visible.. ehh
//edit:
Guys.. this is working!
Another 1% in 15 mins.. It may not be much but believe me, Ive been waiting for that 1% for a long time
I'll give an update soon
//
Further 15-20 mins and it increased by 2%. Well, yay! I guess

Chances are, you have a bad charger or a bad battery.
Either that or a broken usb port. You could be surprise on how many galaxy phones get no charge because of the usb charging port. Its very sensitive and it can be broken quite easily. But if you give more details maybe we can help. Does it responds when you connect it or it wont do anything at all?

Infuse Wont stay on or charge
Hello, maybe someone can help me here. My infuse suddenly won't charge or turn on at all. When I plug in the USB cable from my computer or the wall the battery icon comes on with the animated loading circle thing then goes off after about a second of doing that. When I do a hard reset with or without the battery in it and with or without the charger plugged in, the same thing happens.
Its been several days since this has been happening and after trying again today, it actually turned on and booted to the OS and was charging for about 5 mins before it stopped recognizing the charger. I pulled the battery and it since will not turn on. The battery has some charge on it but will not turn the phone on, just does the weird battery thing as described above.
I have tried several different charging cables, but have no other battery to try. Any suggestions?
Hello i had the same problem awhile back. When my phone was not rooted(Infuse) i had to go to recovery mode and wipe cache after that the charger recognized right away on the phone.
Another time After i rooted i flashed a bad rom and i could not get my phone to charge while it was off. It could only charge with the phone on....SO maybe try flashing a newer better ROM i recommend CM10.
Another thing i had to do was switch this old charger i had it would recognize for 5 min then Stop. It was just a bad wire connection.

The problem is I cannot get it to turn on at all. I was running CM10 and have tried 4 different charger/usb cables.
Sadly, the connection of this device is a known weak spot.. if its not doing anything when connected to some form of current.. all signs point to a dead port..
Hopefully that isn't the case..

I also went through this issue and i discovered that it will keep going through a battery icon and then off loop so the way to deal with this is as soon as you see the battery picture just hold the power button for like 2 or 3 seconds and then you should see the battery green indicator with the botton dots animation and it will Charge.
I am having the same issue as xtz as well. I cant get it to turn on. I flashed the Paranoid Android rom and it all went downhill from there. I flashed it and it had 10% battery left, by the end of the night it was at 1%. I went to bed and woke up with it only at 5%. I went back to stock then re-rooted it. I installed CWM but it wouldn't let me go into CWM recovery, only the Android recovery. Now the phone won't turn on at all, I have swapped batteries and USB cords with no luck. This is a brand new unit less than a week old, the battery is also less than 2 weeks old. Any help here? It won't turn on at all It does the same little ritual that xtz's does.

I already tried that and it seems to have messed up one of the batteries. The little loading circle will come on for a split second then it will go away, come back a few seconds later and it just loops. I plugged in the USB while holding the volume keys to try and get it into download mode but I'll get a warning message saying something about installing a different OS being dangerous, again, for a split second, and shuts off. It seems like the phone can't have any power go through it for more than a split second.
I'm having a similar issue with the phone not charging. But the phone won't PC or wall charger. But check this out I have a jigg for putting device in download mode when I connect it to phone. The phones goes in to download now when powered on. So what do guys think is wrong?

Do I need a new battery or does it sound like the USB port shot?
Same thing happened to my daughters galaxy s2. Usb port is shot. I got her a battery wall charger and a couple spare batteries. Charged the battery, popped it in and turned right on.

So, received my TF700T in the post today. Got all excited, went to start it up, and nothing....
Has been on charge for 3 hours now, and I still get nothing when trying to start it up.
The orange light near the power button is on, indicating the battery is charging, but no matter what I do, whether I hold the volume down with power, hold both volume buttons and power, it won't start up / boot.
The strange thing is, when I first tried to start it up, it wouldn't load, so I plugged it into power, and I got the ASUS post screen, then it turned off almost immediately (I presume as it had insufficient power). Since then, I have not even been able to get the ASUS post screen. If I hold the power button for 10 seconds, it will vibrate after 10 seconds, then nothing happens.
I have tried all the volume + power buttons described above, as well as trying to reset button.
Is the tablet DOA? Any suggestions for ways I might be able to get it started?

Tried this already, and just tried again now. Nothing!
Its weird that if I hold the power button in for at least 10 seconds, at about the 10 second mark, the tablet vibrates, but nothing happens.
The charger light is now green on the tablet, and still nothing. Has been on charge for 5.5 hours now.
Unfortunately, It sounds like a DOA. It happens. Good to know now then 6 months down the road.

Haha, good old DOA. Mine took 6 weeks and the store gave up and just gave me store credit.
Return it!
I had exactly the same: on first boot it turned off after splash logo and I needed to use reset button to restart again.
long pressing just makes it vibrate but nothing more
And when it started, it crashed and rebooted all the time. Sometimes it went black and I had to reset it again
My replacement works perfectly, so yes it's a semy-DOA

Thanks for the replies all, I'll send it off this morning and update once I hear back from the seller (the joys of international dealings).

hi,
I was gonna open a new thread since my problem is based on charging but this thread pretty much is for the same use.
I got my tf700t yesterday through a friend visit from US. It has been nearly 2 weeks since he got it and he never charged the tab since he wasn't much of a user. So yesterday he brought it to me (i'm in TURKEY btw) and the tab was working pretty properly. But it's charge was near %4 so i plugged it on to its dock and plugged the usb charger to the dock via my PC. I just saw on the tabs screen that its charging so i left it there for like 12 hrs since it was its first charge. Then after nearly 12 hrs later this morning, i disconnected the charger and saw that the tab was off. I tried to turn it on but just like cjhod1 says, I got the ASUS post screen, then it turned off almost immediately. Different then cjhod1's case, no matter i plug on the charger or not my battery led near the power button is off for all times. So i guess this means it doesnt charge at all which was operating properly 12 hrs ago.
Strangest thing is my dock doesnt charge either. I tried every possible combination but couldn't manage to get it done. Even more strangely, after a one hour charging with nothing indicating it's actually charging (the orange battery led is off for all times) it managed to get a %1 of battery charge and opened. It managed to stay on for 10 seconds and then shut down once more for all.
It seems like a battery problem but what are the odds to lose both dock's and the tab's battery after one charge. And now that i'm in Turkey, and as far as i know, asus doesn't provide an international gurantee but only for US, i can't seem to get any service here. Unless any solutions to this matter occurs, i will have to ship it to the seller that i got from the Amazon. Every suggestions or helps appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The tablet CANNOT be charged via a USB port! Use the specific charger that came with the tablet. This will deliver the necessary 15V to the system to allow it to charge.

then how come i managed to charge it the first time i plugged it to the PC? And even if so, that is not any handy at all. I will have to carry not only the usb cable but also the adapter with me for all times to be able to charge the tablet. That is not an issue for ipad as far as i know.

It's not a big deal. It charges to full within 2 to 3 hours. Put the darn usb and adapter in your bag pack along with your tablet. It's not like it's a size of a water bottle or something. Charging through the usb is not ideal since it trickle charges and will take forever. Charge it through normal means first and see if it can hold a charge through your everyday use. If it does then your good to go. Then try charging again through pc. Honestly with the tablet keyboard combo you won't have to worry about not having enough battery life to last you the whole day regardless of what you use it for.

Hi Bezendra, did you get it to work? I have the same problem. I'm in Vietnam, and whilst the tablet charges just fine, the dock seems totally Dead on Arrival and doesn't charge (no light, nothing). Warranty isn't really an option here so I need to troubleshoot this exhaustively before giving up. Did you discover the problem?
Speculation: I remember a friend who visited here once, and their externally powered USB hard drive didn't work in certain houses. I think it depended on the type of voltage regulator in the house. Did you discover anything similar?
I have had my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for around 3.5 weeks. First of all I must express how much i adored the tablet, and how my computer , tv and games consoles became obsolete. However recently, I looked into rooting the device, I eventually did after 1 week of speculating possible scenarios in my head. So i rooted it using the Clockwork Mod method, again it worked fine for a couple of days, until i was playing a game, when the battery ran dead flat. Normally this would of been ok, however when i plugged it into the official samsung ac adapter plug, it recognized it as charging, but in 12 hours it hadn't risen by 1%. I was furious, I had saved up alot of money, for a long time - for it to brake. I then tried charging via usb connection , still no luck.
I tried searching online for similar cases where they couldn't get it to charge. I didn't find any for the N8010, but for other devices. They reccomended factory resetting , to see if that would help. So.. I did that ( after finding that after 2 days it goes up by 1 %) still no luck, so my question to you is:
' Have any of you experienced similar cases with your note, and what do you suggest?'
Admittedly, I am new to this - so somewhere along the line, I had probably failed which caused this, but still any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try Odin to stock. If that doesn't work then you probably have to get it fixed

Plug it into a usb port of your computer. This will charge though slower than your wall charger. I suggest this in case there's something wrong with the wall charger. If it charges then you know its not the tablet...
I was wondering if you had any luck with this yet? i remember back when i owned a droid x i flashed a ROM that prevented charging. If you weren't lucky enough to have a spare battery around some people ended up splitting the usb cable and connecting it straight to the battery to do a force charge. If you are up against a wall and are desperate to get it charged you can check out this guide to opening it up http://cnettv.cnet.com/cracking-open-samsung-galaxy-note-10-1/9742-1_53-50130350.html the reason i say that is because it sounds like you need to ODIN back to completely stock and then start over. You don't want to run ODIN unless you have a good charge though. I have no idea if this is good advice or not... the thought just crossed my mind when i read your situation. Take my advice for what it's worth (not much) and do so at your own risk as i accept no responsibility if you end up with a $500 paperweight.

Damn! I can get it to the same 1 % however quickly, but again I cannot charge through USB or AC adapter, both recognize as charging..
Does anyone know of a way to charge another way?
P.S. I managed to get a charge once.. after not being able to . The outcome was that it was 17% and by the time I looked at the guide again it was out of battery. I found if i completly discharge the battery, then leave it a couple of days, then charge.. it miraculously works! But I don't think that is normal.I will try that again in a last ditch chance , then i will reflash stock firmware.
I think its more of an issue with Rom which is doing that you should try reverting back to stock rom one question if you have CWM why didnt you take nanodroid backup if you would have done that it would have saved you loads of trouble.
I am not an expert of Samsung devices, but isnt there a method like we have in LG using NVFlash or Smartflash which does not require battery.
Also may be the RIL has spooked your charging volts
Mate, that's not normal. If you get it to charge, wait until its ay least 50% charged before trying to flash, though it sounds like things aren't working properly there anyway... If you get it back to stock and there's still a problem definately return it as it sounds like battery could be stuffed. Don't forget, if you haven't already, to run triangle away as you need to reset flash counter before loosing root.... Especially if you're returning under warranty....

I believe I have a hard brick, but not sure about diagnosis or options. I put my phone on the charger last night, and it was dead this morning. I have been able to get it to boot twice only for it to shut off immediately due to lack of charge. I have plugged the phone into 3 different USB chargers and none of them appear to be charging my phone, however they all work on my Nexus 7. There is no LED on to indicate it is charging as it normally would. I cannot get into recovery or download mode. Any suggestions?
A little background about my specific situation:
I have had my S3 since launch, and have had no issues with it. I have had it rooted since the bootloader was overcome, and have run custom ROMS ever since. Most recently, I have been running CM 11 with the latest nightly being from early Feb. (not sure which date). I have CWM installed, and up til this point, my phone was working fine. I did get occasional random reboots since the latest nightly that I flashed, but the phone remained completely functional.
EDIT: It is not a brick problem, it is a charging issue. I can charge my phone in the car, but not through a wall charger or connected to a pc. When plugging into a pc, it does not register anything at all.

It's possible that your usb port is bad, but try to clean the inner contacts of the port first. You could try to plug into your PC instead of wall charger see if it works. In anycase if it worked with PC, but not wall charger or both, you need to replace the usb board which can be purchase for cheap on Ebay.

Do you have an external battery charger or a spare charged battery? Give it a try and see what happens.

Do you know of someone who has an S3? Perhaps try swapping batteries with a charged one from a friend/associate, or test with a spare from a verizon store. At least then you can rule out a charging/USB charge port/battery issue vs something else

I don't know anyone. I am going to try and seek help at the verizon store, but they seem so useless whenever I go, and I think they will be more motivated to sell me a new phone.
Well I got my phone to work. I pulled the battery off and just cleaned out some of the dust that had collected. I assume it was just not getting a good connection. Thanks for the suggestions though

Turns out, it only worked on my car charger. The problem persists outside of my car. I cannot charge either through a wall outlet or on a USB cord connected to a PC. I have tried 2 instances of each all with their own cables. My car charger works fine though.
Anyone experience a similar problem? I am going to try and wipe and flash a new ROM, hoping that will fix it.
Hey there!
My Nexus 5, after updating it to 4.4.3, is having a issue: the device is charging only when it is turned off. When I turn the phone on, while charging, it will remain charging. But if I connect the charger, when the phone is already turned on, it will not charge.
I have tested 2 different cables, same issue.
Is anyone else having the same problem? How to fix it?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Just for clarification: I'm using Kit Kat 4.4.3, rooted, Xposed.
what are you charging from? ac or pc?
AC!

Another question, are you using the stock wall wart? Some aftermarket chargers don't put out enough amperage. Another possibility is that you've got some rogue processes keeping your phone awake so it's using battery as quickly (or quicker) than it can take in a charge.
I'm using the AC charger that came with my Nexus 5.
Updated to 4.4.4. Problem not solved.
I think it might be a hardware issue. I have the same problem with my pebble. I have tried multiple cables/chargers and it only charges when it's off. When it's on I get the charging notification but it doesn't actually charge
Nothing. The devide is still charging only when it is turned off.
Having the same issue since update 2 weeks ago. Already wiped phone and problem still exist. Start to think it's hardware but tried 2 different charger same issue.
So guys I am almost the same problem since this morning. I went on a 3 day trip to the Netherlands on Friday and charged my phone in the car for the last time on friday. I died on me this morning. While I was on the way back today and my N5 was in it's last percents of battery I noticed it wouldnt charge anymore. I thought fastcharging might have killed my car radio. Now back home I tried to charge it. For some reason the charging while off screen reapeared as soon as it turned off. Whenn I turned it on again it stopped charging. Tried rebooting multiple times. My phone now only charges while being in Fastboot or Recovery mode. Anybody having any ideas what might have caused this an how to fix this? Cleaning the charger didn't help me.

Hi. Also had this problem a few days now. Alot of headscraching is done
N5 won`t charge when on. Tried my N10 charger, but still the same. With my wireless charger it register the phone when off, but cannot charge it at all. I've also done a factory reset, and even changed the battery. Still no solution. Wondering if the charging port is damaged somehow. It doesn't cost much so maybe I`ll order a new and replace it to. I remember draining the battery more than usual right before this issue acurred. I was hiking, and din`t bring my portable charger. Also it could be some kind of water damage. Had the phone in my pocket all the time, it was not raining, but I got pretty sweaty:-9 Never had any issue with my stock Nexus 5 up till now. Don`t think this i a common problem, when this is the only place I've found others with this issue I`ll order the charging port, keep on searching on forums, and take it from there.
Good luck
I'm having the same problem on my Nexus 5 now as well. When on, it won't charge via micro-usb (via original charger or USB-to-PC), nor will it charge wirelessly. When turned completely off, it charges, but at GREATLY GREATLY reduced speed. It seems to be stuck in a loop as it it's just been plugged in. It cycles continuously through the lightning-bolt battery image, followed by the charge percentage graphic. The screen blinks, then it starts again. I suspect that it only charges for a moment or two before each reset. For example, it only charged about 20% over the span of six hours last night.
I've tried four chargers and four USB cables, and of course both wireless and wired charging. It's something with the hardware I suspect.
Anyone have any suggestions? It looks the the factory wipe upthread didn't help...
Charging spare part
I am having same problem too. I'm guessing it's because of water damage. Where did you find the charging part? I'm thinking of ordering one for myself to see if the problem is fixed!

Having the same problem now too. Won't Qi or USB charge from OEM charger and cable while powered on.
Appears to be charging fine while powered off.
Did anyone come up with a resolution?
