Usb host - 7" Kindle Fire HD Accessories

Hey guys i have been doing some research about the kindle for hd capabilities being a usb host. However all i could find was that i need a powered hub as the kindle for itself cannot provide enough power to run a Ian drive. Now the question, do you know if this is true and if it is can you recommend me a powered hub that will surely work for the best possible price? And also an otg cable?
Thank you in advance

USB host mode is currently disabled in the KFHD 7", We are waiting for someone to release a kernel that will enable it, I think hashcode is working on the kernel ATM.

Does anyone know the progress because usb-host-mode

The KFHD does not supply the voltage to power the drive. At this time, there are two options.
Fist one is the one I chose is the Wi-Drive.
The second one is a Y style USB cord that allows a voltage to be applied and powers the USB. The option to use the USB will light up once voltage is supplied. 4 volts is desired. Most just use one of those on the go phone chargers that takes a couple standard AA batteries to plug into the male USB port to provide the voltage. Then one plug into the KFHD and the other into a flash drive.

So there's no way to connect a USB pen via OTG cable? Even if the device is rooted and with a proper ROM?

Y USB cord supports extra power to a device. One USB port is plugged into a power supply and servs power to the USB device (USBstick, ext. drive) into a combined USB.
BTW: If there is no support of usb host by the kernel, that shouldn't work.
Maybe it's possible to add 5v power to the usb-port inside Kindle Fire HD (Hardware MOD) and someone enables usb host module in the kernel.

possible
is it possible to become a host KFHD

[Q] Samsung tablet using a USB Thumb Flash Drive

I would like to use USB Thumb-Flash Drives like they are doing with the Nexus 7 with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. It is the GT-P3113 using recent CM10 - Android 4.1.1. I have tried the USB connector as noted below to connect the tablet and with its OEM cord to a USB drive and does not work or recognize it. I have used other drives and have tried using Stickmount app. I have tried to search for specific info, found some post that the idea is possible but can't find any details how. I have seen a possible connector USB OTG but don't know the difference. Any details as to how would be much appreciated thanks.

You need a USB OTG cable (the gender changer may work, but im not sure it will enable host mode, the otg cable definitely does). You can get them for two pounds / dollars on ebay. I am using mine with a 32gb usb stick.

External HD

I picked up a one point five terabyte Seagate drive for 90 bucks from Costco last week mainly for my lappy but I was wondering is there a way to physically hook it to my tab?FTP is of course what I've been using but what about when there's no wifi?

Are all 30-pin USB connectors created equally, or is an OTG cable different?
They are different. OTG has ground and sense shortened.
If your drive is powered from USB beware that this will not work. Drive must be externally powered.

I got a cheap powered USB hub from Amazon (like http://www.amazon.co.uk/BG-Network-...35?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1354711206&sr=1-35) and it works fine ... just ensure you are taking a charger with sufficiant power to support your HD!

usb OTG ??? do i have to throw my nexus s

hi every body
i will be very thankful if anybody can help me
today i get a usb OTG cable and i was very excited to try on my nexus s but i was very disappointed that even if i have a custom kernel that supports usb OTG i have to support externel power supply along with the cable which make all the process of > on the go < .. absolute not on the go ..
later when searching i found a video for nexus 4 i guess having usb with really on the go mode i.e. without 20 meters of cable extended along the room to the wall..
is there a way to make this work on the nexus s .?

Which USB OTG cables work with Nexus 5?

OK, so when grossing eBay I see listings that say "Male to Female" or vise versa, but I'm quite the USB OTG n00b... What does this all mean and how can I be sure which USB OTG cables support the Nexus 5? Thanks in advance.
Another thing, what's the deal with £1 OTG cables vs £3 ones? Is it just the build quality difference or do the higher end ones have more functionality? (Sorry about the £'s, I'm Brit! )
Answered:
a USB OTG is a USB OTG, there is no right out wrong... The cheaper ones are just because of build quality difference, but you don't need good build quality as it is just a USB OTG cable, so go for the cheapest one possible!
Franco Kernel supports OTG, but you need StickMount to mount the flash drive.

An otg cable is an otg cable. There is no right or wrong. All otg means is that it has pins 4&5 bridged to enable host mode on the device.
The typical gender cable is USB A female to microUSB male. This is what I use.
The USB A female is just a standard USB port like what you would plug a flash drive into.
The micro USB male is the end that goes into your phone. Like the end of your charger.

Thanks you guys, but I'm just worried about the listings that say works for Samsung [insert product name] and that's it... I'm thinking that they only do that because Samsung's are the most popular
Phones, so they use it to get more item views, but better safe then sorry...

yes price is only on build quality but there is nothing that requires great build quality in these cables
£0.79 that is what i would get if i was looking for one now

Yes, That one will work fine.
Franco kernel does support OTG however to mount USB flash drives you will need an app like Stickmount if your rooted to properly mount the drive
I purchased this when it was $18 works like a charm
