Won't charge or turn on - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Phone will not hold a charge or turn on. It only turned on about 4 times during the time I have owned it. What is the best way to figure out if it is a hardware or software issue? I searched and didn't find any thread on this problem.
Thanks!

A little more info would be nice lol

Most likely sounds hardware but I have no idea what the circumstances are of the phone it could be an easy software fix

Sounds like the phone is very new? And is it still stock? If yes to both, no point in messing with it. Try a factory reset. If the phone still has the same issue, return it.

HTC One XL won't charge or turn on, no blinking light.

The thing is I've had these phone for months now, everything works fine. But last night I left the battery died for about an hour and when I tried to charge it, there's no sign of charging at all. I left it overnight but to no avail. Can anyone help me?:crying:
Have you tried holding the power button down?

You haven't provided anywhere near enough information by the way. Provide your bootloader details, ROM, kernel, recovery version, anything else that's relevant.

You shouldn't ever suggest anyone use the power + volume up button combo, that deliberately puts the phone into Qualcomm download mode.

I know, but that is better than anything. I mean, these steps would be something to try when you're absolutely out of ideas, and you don't have warranty.
No it isn't better than anything, it's the worst possible thing you could do no matter what the situation. Nothing good can come of it. If you want to be responsible for a phone that can truly only be recovered via jtag that's up to you, but I'll do my best to warn people that's it's an awful idea, as would any other experienced person.

A couple of things that you can try if you haven't yet.

This is not a good idea (as timmaaa already stated) and not good advice.
Not sure who gave you this advice (or if you just made it up, or read it on a forum for another device), but its wrong and should not be performed or recommended to others.
Its not "better than anything" (think you mean "better than nothing") as it can potentially put the OP in a worse position than he already is.

Make sure you use the wall charger, and not connected to a computer by USB. You can try messing with holding the power button, and/or power+vol down. Also try these button combos while the phone is connected to the charger. At least one user on here inexplicably got his seeming dead HOX going that way, when nothing else seemed to work.
Actually I read about that on a different forum, I think it was on androidcentral.
There a guy saying that he got his One X back to life using that combo, and didn't mention anything about it going into Qualcomm download mode.
Didn't think it was such a bad thing to do because I just read that guy's experience.
I will delete that suggestion from my post.
Thanks for the info

Understand that Qualcomm download mode wipes the OS and render the phone unbootable (except to hboot and recovery, if available).
If you did not know what the button combo does, don't recommend it. Simple.
Thanks for all your replies, the only solution I found is I SMACKED (yeah you just read that right) the phone really hard and the red blinking light came on! Thank God, I thought of buying new ones, turns out didn't have to.

Odd. Now I wouldn't recommend anyone else follow this "fix".
Suffice it to say, don't let your battery level drop until the device shuts off, when at all possible. There are safeguards to prevent it from dropping too low to take a charge, but these are not always failsafe. My thought is something like that happened in your case. Why "smacking" the phone fixed it, I have no idea.

Hardware or Software issue in my OPO screen?

I got my OnePlus One today. What a happy day until this problem showed up.
My screen works just fine, but this happens every once a while. The screen looks like this for some seconds and goes back to normal then.
Any tips?
Its probably software. But wow that hurts my eyes looking at that picture.
Tell me about it. I almost went to an eye doctor. Lol
Are you able to reproduce the problem repeatedly? Does it happen only on the home screen or does it happen in other apps as well?
It appears when ever, where ever. If i take a screenshot of it, it won't appear in there. That's why i took a photo of it.
So, is this screen broken?
It could possibly be hardware then. The only way to really know is to flash a custom ROM or reflash the stock ROM, if it happens on another ROM then its for sure hardware.
Ok. Thanks! I think i'm the only one with this issue. Haven't found anything similar from the web, when searching.
The problem appeared once again and i rebooted the device. The screen had this ghosting in the bootup aswell.
I've done factory reset aswell and the problem continues.
If it occurs outside the OS then its for sure hardware

Dropped Calls

Having a very weird issue for the last few days on my rooted stock N5. Any call I make or receive only lasts about 8-10 seconds and then drops. I tried restarting but the problem came back. I went into recovery wiped dalvik and cache, but it came back. I tried both steps again and now the issue won't go away.
This morning I went into safe mode and made a call without any issues. Clearly I am having a software issue
Any ideas as to what is causing it? Or better yet, how to identify what is causing it and fix it. I am at work right now and do not have the capability of going back to stock, unlocking bootloader, re-rooting, etc.
Flash stock again. If it continues, it's hardware or a carrier issue.
Only real way to test. ?

Oh, could be a Sim card issue. Try someone's Sim that's the same size.

[Q] Galaxy S6 Erratic behavior after hours of use

I am now in my second day of using the Galaxy S6, and have run into the same problem both days. The phone works fine in the morning and most of the afternoon. But after it's been on a while (in the evening), it behaves very erratically. The desktop buttons work unevenly and are sticky, and it's very difficult to type a text (or anything), since after a few letters, the keyboard letters disappear automatically, and I have to keep going back over and over until I've finished my message. It's a real pain.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks
Take it back. Sounds like you have a dud.

But in all seriousness, if you haven't rooted or messed with the system at all, and it's completely stock, there must be something wrong with your phone. It wouldn't do what you are describing unless something was terribly wrong. Take it back.
After I Odin'd back to stock, took the OTA and rerooted, I encountered very strange behavior. When I hit my Bluetooth quick toggles my volume up button would begin eratic behavior. Basically my volume up seems to have malfunctioned hardware wise. I reverted to stock, factory reset, wiped cache probably 10 times the last few days. No fix. So I determined it has to be hardware problem. Waiting on my replacement from Verizon.

Screen won't wake up

Anyone having issues with the screen not turning on? The home button still has the haptic feedback but nothing happens after that. The power button doesn't do anything either. Not sure if this is a defective phone or a s8+ overall issue...
Yes.. mine locks up frequently. Hold volume down and power until it responds
Haven't had this problem as of yet, and I have over 130 apps installed onto my phone. Transferred from Google first and Smart Switch after that. Haven't had a single problem.
seem the people in this link are having the same issues: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/phone-freezing-rebooting-unlocking-t3593075
hopefully its just a minor software glitch that can be fixed

I'm also getting this issue on my S8. Wondering if it's related to the always on lockscreen
Is this a serious issue?

Take it back for warranty
Just had this happen for the first time in the two weeks I've owned the S8+. Restart resolved it for now.
Had my phone since a day or 2 before launch and have not had this problem.
try to reboot a few times and also clear out the cache.
I remember the s7e had this problem and about 1 out of 20ish time the phone wouldnt wake up on first try. But they sent out an update to fix it.

I came here looking for answers, since I was experiencing the same problem (although no haptic feedback). This solution solved the problem. Got me into recovery mode, where I was able to turn off the phone and reboot.
Some of the answers suggested restarting. I don't think they understood the problem. The OP stated the power button was not working, as was my case. So 'just restarting' was not a solution.
I'm having the same issue but it started a couple weeks ago after I installed a firmware updated. It has happened 3 times since then, and never happened before that since I got the phone (on launch date a few months ago).
