Ubuntu on P5110 possible safely? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been looking around to see if it is possible to safely install Ubuntu on my
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 but can't find anything on it. Simply put, can I do this?
If not possible any recommendations for good Roms, besides CyanogenMod and Aokp?
Thanks in advance!

If an image for the 5110 hasn't been created yet, then no. Even if it has been created the Ubuntu images aren't as simple to install as Android roms so be mindful of that. There are imporant extra steps to follow. Also, the Ubuntu source code is still a little new, so there's likely to be a few things that arent' working quite right yet. If you're looking for something clean adn stable stick withe Android roms for now. Though I can't imaging it'll be too much longer before someone creates an 5110 image for Ubuntu...there's already one for the 7 inch tabs.

Porting?

I need help porting a rom. I'm wondering if its even possible, really. But if it is, I can't do it. I have tried numerous tutorials in the forums as well as multiple other sites, and have been working on this port for a couple days now. Don't call me crazy, but I'm trying to port a stock/rooted ics rom from the att galaxy note. I like the way it looks, and would love to have it on my device. Or at least the option to. So, my question is, would someone be willing to work with me one on one in porting this or porting it for me. I could donate when I get a job. Thanks in advance.

You can check my guide to port ROMs:

If Galaxy Note uses another CPU, it is not possible. Nexus S is ARMv7

The note is armv7 as well. I will certainly try your guide, though.

I can not for the life of me get my port to start flashing. I keep getting installation aborted with no error code. The first two times I was using cm9 rc2 as base, and the third time I used stock ICS as base. Still getting confused on the build.prop and updater-script. If you could give me more information on that or possibly do that part for me I would greatly appreciate it. I would of course do the rest myself. Thanks.

Is this normal?

I am currently running Jellybean on my galaxy tab. I am using this rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885878 Everytime I turn on my tablet I get a weird screen with lots of different colored lines. I have a picture and a video of it. Hopefully I can upload both, but if not you will be able to see what it is doing in the picture. Does anyone have any thoughts on to what may have caused this? And if so, maybe somethings to try and fix it? It just really bothers me and makes me wonder if I have a defective tablet..
Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda app-developers app
It is normal. Once Samsung officially releases JB I would guess that you will not see that screen.
:fingers-crossed:
Okay. I was just making sure. I didnt see anything about it on the first page of that rom so I was curious.

That doesn't look normal. I recommend you flash back to stock Android 4.0 in Odin and down load all updates it needs. The offficial rom should be getting Jelly Bean soon, probably this month.
I also have 3113 but this no ....

I don't think that is normal. I have the GT-P3113 and have flashed mutliple ROM including CM10 and AOKP AOKP being my favorite). I have not run into that issue before. I would say, make sure you have the last Recovery, but I have not used the Rom you are flashing though, so it could be the ROM. I would say...try to flash another ROM like AOKP and see if still is an issue. If it is I am going to say it has something to do with the Tablet or something went wrong in rooting or flashing.

It is normal for the pre-released stock Samsung JB ROM or variants of this ROM (RomsWell). Sheez.
I think we should have another button besides "THANKS" like "I don't know what I am talking about, but I like to answer questions" LOL
Use triangle away app, flash stock, then see if defect still found return !!!

Frankly speaking I am not impressed with ubuntu os. Everywhere just swiping here and there is ridiculous. Also most of the basic apps still dont work in it. We should wait for official release of ubuntu with major impressive imptovements. And most imp we have major issues with kernel 3.0 which has to be first solve for stable CM rom. Only then we should proceed with ubuntu.

Hmm. I see so that's the story. Well, people here are too impatient. Its not like other ROMs can make their phone 2x as cool and fast as stock. Hell, I actually prefer stock. The only difference I see is Theme Chooser (Except ParanoidAndroid's total UI Customization and different modes). which by the way is already available for non-CM/AOKP ROMs. The only reason I want to get CM for this phone is for hopes that even when Sammy abandons this phone, we'd still be able to run a recent version of android. 4.2.2 is no big deal for me, its still jellybean for chrissakes. I'd tear the world apart if we were still on GB and KLP or whatever 5.X will be called is already out.
I guess its best to wait. We waited a pretty long time for jelly bean but why replace something that's not broken? Still is just software, I doubt those ROMs can satisfy me.

Sadly, there's no one left, OsamaGhareeb knows programming (he can help with the sources) but he's MIA here on Ace II section. Then there's hafizduddin, who builds the kernels. Aaaaand there's OldDroid who said he'd be getting an Ace II and build something for it but he's MIA now too (i think he's active but I don't think he'd get this phone IMO)
So, that said, anyone else here who knows programing/Linux operation?

[Q] Custom ROM Droid Maxx Developer Edition

I'm somewhat a noob to custom ROMs, and looking for a bit of information before I decide to flash a new one. I have a Verizon Droid MAXX Developer Edition (XT1080) with the current KitKat 4.4 installed. I'm looking to try the nightly CM11 out. I have already unlocked the bootloader, its not rooted just yet though.
In another forum thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2654816
A user posted a link to http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=moto_msm8960dt (3 downloads, I'm not sure which one to choose for my device)
I'm wanting to know if this build would work on my phone before I flash and possibly mess something up, and also does Verizon work okay on this build. Is there anything else I should know before flashing a ROM (I'm somewhat tech savvy, so the process seems pretty straight forward, but any advice is appreciated)
I would have posted the question in that thread but I didn't want to break any rules, which says to Q/A here.

Obviously you need to have a custom recovery installed and get root. All three of those builds are for our phone. They are "nightlies" that get updated, well, nightly. I ran the 2/19 build for a little while and it worked pretty well. GPS was the only thing that didn't work and I think there is a work around for that. Active notifications and touchless controls are not part of cm.
Sent from my XT1080 using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
I'm not worried about GPS or the Motorola controls.
Do you recommend a good recovery to flash? Also I've seen people posting problems when rooting this phone with 4.4 installed.
Any reason why you reverted back? Didn't like it?

I use TWRP. No problems rooting the Dev edition on 4.4 the problems are all with the consumer edition. I've never been a big CM fan plus I like having a working GPS, and I just didn't feel like going through the steps to get it working
CM seems to be good for my first custom ROM, but for future references do you recommend another ROM? I've seen that PACMAN ROM posted a bunch, but it looks pretty buggy.

CM 11 is pretty much it for our phones right now. You can flash the firmware for the Moto X and try those ROMs though.
One last thing as far as rooting goes. Do I use rock my moto to root. Also if I should decide to keep my stock ROM are there any advantages to rooting other than apps like titanium backup etc?

then try to install cyanogen (i already did)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50515668
So with xposed you can customize a current ROM without having to flash to cyanogenmod? I like the stock ROM but I'd like to be able to change certain designs (example: change the way my notification bar looks. Maybe battery icons and change menus within settings. Etc ) Just trying to really see the benefit of flashing another ROM if what I'm wanting to do can be done through a 3rd party program.

Just root and use xposed. I used to put custom ROMs on other phones. For this xposed is all that's necessary

When I first installed CM11 it looked almost exactly like my stock set up using the Google launcher and xposed. The only advantage CM provides that I can see is the ability to tweak the kernel settings, if you are into that sort of thing.

I appreciate all the help so far. I think I will try xposed out and see what I can tweak as far as display settings.
I'm assuming no custom recovery is required for this, only rooting. I like some aspects of cyanogenmod but for this also being my work phone, I don't want to risk messing up my network settings etc.
When you root, can you still update your stock OS? Or do you need to unroot before each update?
