Hy guys...last night i went to a concert...i've taken a video...but the audio really sucks...it's very very very distorted..How can i adjust the gain of the mic??(I've already tried to but in mono audio but still sucks).I've tried to modify AIC3254_REG_DualMic file but still doens't work
This has been an unfortunate problem or the Sensation and other HTC devices that try to do stereo recording using the stock camera app. This problem goes back to the gingerbread days.
There are 2 workarounds.
1. Some have gotten decent sound by turning off stereo recording in the camera app's settings. This will make the Sensation record sound in mono. Most of the clipping that would occur in the stereo mode will disappear in the mono mode. (personally I don't find this option to be the best as sometimes the gain is still kind of high in mono mode).
2. Goto the market and grab the lgcamera app. Use this app to record video. You have the option of recording AAC audio at 256kbs, plus you fan adjust the bitrate for video. While it still records in mono, the sound is much superior than the stock camera spp. This is what I use anytime I need to do video.
Do some comparison tests and I think you'll find the lgcamera app has much better sound.
(i learned the hard way 2 summers ago by going on vacation and recording tons of video only to hear all the high gain Mic clipping. Most of those videos are not even viewable since its unbearable listening to the audio.)
People with the HTC Amaze, Rezound, etc, have similar problems.
Hope this helps.

1. I've alreay tried to put in mono...put sound it's still terrible :/
2.I'll try! But the best solution is to find a fix at the base...lg camera is only a workaround...
I bet a good developer here on XDA can fix it...it's only a matter of mic gain i think.

I agree but even when the Sensation was the flagship phone and this issue came up, no Dev took it upon to find the culprit. So I doubt now, that the phone is 2 years past, and Devs are spending time now with newer devices.
I will mention the only time stereo recording worked well this phone, ironically, was with the Sense 3.5 gingerbread test leak that came out, I believe like 2.0.8.....
If you search stereo recording problem on xda you'll find more threads related to the problem and also that gingerbread RUU that seemed to not have that issue present. In fact the best Sense 3.5 Rom I used to use before ICS fame out was the Bulletproof Rom 2.2.1 by Romanb.
That would be the Rom I'd go back to if I wanted to downgrade back to gingerbread.
But honestly, lgcamera has a few more options for sound than stock camera and sounds good too.

Just an idea might be silly or could work but try placing a piece of material such as a bit of cloth or some soft foam between the microphone and the back cover, do this to both microphones. It will have to be thin so cover fits properly, so some soft foam would be the most ideal like some handheld microphones etc have. Might be worth a try or just silly but could be worth a try especially if wind is a factor. If anyone does try this, post results. I'll try do it later sometime when I can find some time to do so. Obviously this is just a work around though but it could be a hardware thing and not a software issue but maybe these files below in screenshot might have something to do with audio input not only output. I myself though haven't really had a problem with audio when recording besides wind sometimes, it could also depend how the phone is held.

I do believe you are onto something with those three files. In fact about a year ago I think there was a thread in themes and apps about modifying for system wide volume, and someone had touched on the stereo high Mic gain being in those files but nobody I believe tested. I for one have edited those files by lowering the headphone out gain switch, so I don't hear hiss when listening to music. I just never got around to testing for the stereo Mic problem.

I don't use the stock music player period. Have not in none of my roms. What I don't understand what's the whole big deal on a music enhancer. I play music off my device via aux cable and equalize my sound through my cars stereo. So my music always sounds good.
I don't use headset to listen to music off my device either. I guess is good for people that do.

same here guys, I also hook my phone up through the AUX jack in my car. Ill have my usual settings for my radio's EQ, but when I started using the Beats feature, I turned everything back down to 0 and it sounds great. I didnt even have to mess with my settings again. Beats by Dre is great, clear sound, thumping bass, plus the added volume boost in TDJs kernels just sets it off. I also agree that the stock music player isnt all that great, as I prefer playerpro, but Ill continue to use it because the sound is awesome. havent noticed a difference in the stock earphones tho, so maybe youll have to upgrade those to hear the real deal
Thanks it runs perfectly.

Some think it's a gimmick by HTC...
Others say it's the best music experience ever...
And some maintain that it looks just too cool to give a miss!
However you look at it, everyone wants to try it out at least once. Yes, I'm talking about Beats audio feature, present in the current lineup of HTC phones. However, those without a Sense ROM were so far unable to use it. That has changed, however, due to the work of developer RockoDev. He has now created a zip, flashable from recovery which enables Beats Audio on any Gingerbread ROM. There are reports on the original thread that it works on some phones, and doesn't work on others, and even causes bootloops on some devices. The Dev has not compiled a list of devices on which it works... so i have no way to tell. So please use this only after you make a nandroid backup, incase things so south!
Wanna take it for a spin? Go ahead, and try it out. You've been adequately warned.
Link to the Original Thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226
I've also attached the two latest files from the original thread. The allandroidziptest.zip is the latest, and the allandroidzip.zip is the older one. The Dev of the mod recommends the new one first, and in case it doesn't work, try the older one.
DISCLAIMER : I'm only the messenger. You're free to try this at your own risk. All credit (and consequently any dissatisfaction) belongs to the developer of the mod, RockoDev. So drop in there and give him a "THANKS" if you like his work.
Cheers.
EDIT : Well, it seems the issues got sorted out and the original developer has modded the files to be compatible for all GB Roms. So i'm re-upping the thread for anyone who wants to test this feature.

I don't agree with you there dan. I currently have endymion 3.4 running... And I'm listening to music as I type this... Turning beats on and off makes a very significant difference on music! I'm not extolling the virtues of beats... But to say that it makes no difference would be incorrect.

Nope. As far as i can see from comments in the original thread, there is no indicator saying Beats is installed... but apparently it's wow'ing a lot of people over there. Check out the comments. I don't know if its a placebo effect for them or not... but i'm on Endy, and when i listen to the same track on Stock player with Beats enabled, and on Poweramp, i have to say that the Beats one sounds much more punchy and insanely better as compared to Poweramp, even with EQ tweaking.
So for me, it;s not placebo...and it works beautifully out of the box, without me having to go through the extra headache of messing aroud with EQ settings. I have a pair of Beats Audio tour in-canal earphones, in case you want to know what hardware i use. I highly recommend that to anyone who wants a set of portable 'phones for daily commute.

it happens to me too but it happens only when i do a endy nandroid restore. what i do is, choose no effect and press ok after that i go back to sound enhancer option and choose different sound mode, if there's a difference between the no effect and the other sound effect (and it always does) then i choose the beat mode.

I got 'em from Mumbai for Rs. 4,500 in September last year. Don't know what they cost now... prices must've come down significantly, as at that time they were a novelty an only a couple of stores in India had 'em.
Actually i had gone to purchase a set of Bose earphones, but when compared to the Beats ones, the Bose in-canal phones sounded tinny. Couldn't believe it myself when i picked Beats over Bose (Plus Bose way way more expensive). But i am so happy i took that decision. They are punchy as hell, fit perfectly with no ear fatigue or pain even after hours of being stuffed into the ears..... and I would say they're easily worth the money.

Learning good audio editing won't do anything for clipped signal, you'd have to adjust the settings of the mic pre itself. I don't know of any programs that do this, but it would be nifty. You might be able to plug an externally powered mic into the headphone jack and use that, but at that point you might as well just bring a small camcorder with level controls.
Actually, being closer in a small venue is better, as you avoid the blast from the PA.
Yes, an app where you could adjust the mic pre would be huge. Anyone have a way to program such a thing??

Hi,
I believe your device is supported for using Voodoo Sound, I have found recording band practice using the microphone gain presets, with the Loud enviroment - DRC, setting selected, to be of a decent quality. Hi-fi record option set to on too, allows for ADC 128x oversampling to maximize recordings quality.
These settings work for Video recordings too, but I mainly use just audio recording, for that I use TapeMachine Recorder, with the Auto gain off, but can be set to auto too.
Hope this helps.
Unfortunately, voodoo isn't available for my phone, but I contacted the dev about future support. Thanks for the info, voodoo would be perfect, I hope the dev can help a brother out... Lol

using subwoofer bass boost +12(voodoo) with compression disabled, bass boost on awesome beats, and studio quality virtualization(dsp manager)
My beats audio headphones handle this, sony can barely handle this, skullcandy cannot I suppose.
THX ... looking forward to trying this on AOKP b40
EDIT - Hmmm , interesting = I downloaded and installed on SD , but when I go into CWM , I don't see it ???
Using CM9 Nightly 23 it works with the Apollo player, but it doesn't work for my Poweramp. Also, as reported before, there is no "SETTINGS/SOUND/MUSIC EFFECTS" menu.
So this brings up one of my questions lol.
Does this really actually work? Without having everything else beats?

Read the post above yours, it may be different for other ROMs, but it did work while using Apollo on CM9.
I know I read them, but I posted a question about beats audio and there was this pretty big discussion about it lol. But what I mostly understood is if you don't have beats in the kernel as well as the hardware then it won't really work too well.
But I'm not on cm9 at the time so can't try it.
But just a quick question, does this work with the regular speaker as well as headphones or only headphones?

It works with all audio the phone outputs... granted, I guess, if the app you use has the audio "routed?" through the beats app or whatever to make use of it. In my case, for example, using the Apollo player everything is effected (headphone, speaker, bluetooth), but using Poweramp it won't. Poweramp must ignore system settings since it has it's own equalizer or something.
As far as needing something in the kernel, I don't see why you would need it. Beats, from my understanding, just adjusts the sound frequencies just like a equalizer... I could be wrong. I don't know much about Kernels, but I think it's like a driver only a little more complicated. So it would only contain the drivers for the audio on your phone (As far as audio is concerned)... If what I believe is correct.
op updated to version 3 please see changelog, just wipe cache and flash, now works with cm9 and settings/sound/music effects show up

Okay so I tried this and it does work. Its not working with poweramp but I think maybe if you work on it you can fix it? Because the regular dsp manager works on poweramp (on cm7 I'm sure it does). Or maybe the fix would need to be from poweramp's side... would be amaziing if it did work with poweramp too but apollo is still good.

Go get a set of Bose headphones.
Beats is dumb. Its just eq tweaks, Bose is actual sound enhancement.

I was tempted to post something along the same lines but didn't want to put down OP's buy choice lol.
I have a pair of cheap bluetooth headphones and with software mods I can't tell the difference between these and beats headphones. If you're gonna spend the money best to get quality over gimicks.

How is the sound enhancement any more "actual" on Bose than on Beats? I'm no Beats fan, but how headphones sound is all a matter of personal taste. If you like the way a set of headphones sound over another, or just like the freaking logo on the side, power to you.
IMO Bose is as much of a joke as Beats is. You can get equal or better quality headphones for less money than either. Both Bose and Beats are just marketing fluff, and a case of people buying what is trendy, popular, and well advertised.
Anyway, we all digress. The point of the OP was the mod, not the specific headphones. I'd be curious to hear the OP describe exactly what makes it sound so "amazing", as that word really doesn't mean much. Sound fuller, better bass or treble response, more volume, etc.?
Is this been tried on sense 5 Rom?
Sent from my HTC One XL running super smooth Sense 5
I actually got the studios for cheap off a friend that need money lol but I really wouldn't spend tons of money on headphones. They do sound good though its all personal choice. But as I said it made the sound way better. Yes it was tried on the sense 5 ROM turn beats eq off and use the viper4android and you will see the difference

Well let me try to explain. It sounds more clear, you can hear all the different sounds in the beat, well at least I can Lol. You can have different bass and as we all know sometimes beats audio has too much bass on certain songs. Just try it out and post a response here

To each his own, but my personal preference when I am spending several hundred dollars on a pair of headphones is to get something that accurately reproduces the audio fed to it. Beats is heavy on the bass and Bose products (aside from their car speakers) just sound like garbage to me. Check out a pair of Sennheisers or Grados. Any distortion of the sound should be done intentionally with a preamp or equalizer. Just my $0.02.

all I did was download the apk install it and change the settings to what I posted. Nothing else. I have only tried it on the sense 5 ROM. you have to have the box checked in the app for it to work i think it says enable viper or something like that
Bose o_0 I thought it's common knowledge, that Bose is all marketing and way to expensive.
There are other very good headphonemakers. Yuin for example. They basicly reinvented earbuds (not the INear ones) and are a top product. At the moment Blox seems to make the best earbuds on the market and are praised all over the net (that small part of the net that still uses earbuds...) but they are hard to come by. I am using some Sunrise AS-Feelings and I was missing bass with these but as it turns out, they are capable to produce a quite decent bass, they are just not tuned to do it out of the box. With Viper4Android and the Clearbass IRS, these sound awesome and are killer for the price. Other soundmods as Beatsaudio or AC!D didn't help. As my earbuds break after 1-2 years I don't want to spent a huge amount of money.
I don't like Inears, so don't tell me earbuds are bad. Maybe once this was true but it's not anymore.
Does this have any effect on built-in speaker? Miss xloud + clear phase on viper!

Viper works flawlessly on any ROM, external speaker as well. You must install the cortex A8 driver for our device and use the correct compatibility mode.

Gonna add onto the Sennheiser bandwagon. I have (had, they just broke ) a pair of Sennheiser CX150 earbuds. Clearest, best bass I've ever heard on earbuds and FANTASTIC overall sound quality. Now that I need a new pair I'm looking into getting a pair of CX300 II's. Sennheiser is great, and their products are very reasonable prices.
