Hey everyone, I wanted to post this in the Hyperdrive RLS7 thread but I couldn't... I have been using this site for years but have never had to post anything as I can usually find my answer if I have a problem.
Anyway, I recently installed the RLS7 ROM and have been having a weird battery percentage display issue, my battery charges and dies normally but it basically thinks that 20% is 0%. If I charge it all the way, it will die at the normal rate but when it gets into the 30-20% range, it will show a percentage drop slower than normal and then die right when it hits 20%. If I charge it from dead, it will start at 1% and go up pretty normally(maybe a little slower than normal), but if I unplug it at any time before 20%, it will show that percentage until it dies i.e. if I unplug it at 15%, it will show 15% and not change until it's dead.
I have tried wiping batt stats, doing the adrenaline shot (which also wipes batt stats), and reinstalling the ROM, but nothing has fixed it, and it only started happening with this ROM. I was running cleanROM before beautifully, but I am enjoying this overclock and extras too much to go back
Anyone got anything for me?

Oh sorry bout that, totally thought I did post in Q&A haha early morning
So any ideas anyone?
What kernal are u using? Try wiping everything, cache(twice),davlik cache(twice), and wipe system(twice) then reinstall the rom, but don't use the same downloaded rrom u have on ur SD card. Download it again. When u reinstall use the stock kernal and see if the problem clears. I'm using the same rom. I will try to help as Much as I can.

Currently running the Deviant kernel. The stock kernel isn't overclockable with this ROM correct?
I will start downloading the ROM again and flash it tonight.

Its not, but lets try to just isolate the main problem. Deviants kernal has a pretty big following. Alot of people have had great success with it. I haven't, I use faux123 mainline kernal. Each phone handles kernals and custom rom's in their own way. If ur phone accepts the rom and ur problems disappears then it would have either been the kernal or maybe a bad download.

Okay so here's where I'm at.
Battery display was going down normally until 23% and then stuck on that number. Plugged it into my computer to transfer the ROM, and kept it on the charger while I was reflashing since I don't know what "23%" really is. Picked the stock kernel, rebooted, when it got to the home screen it said 22%. Unplugged it, let it sit for 5-10 min with the screen on and it didn't move. Since I figured that didn't solve it and I was already in the percentage area where I would be able to tell if it fixed, I tried flashing the faux123 kernel. After it booted back up, it showed 21%. Let it sit for another 5-10 min. Finally it went to 20%, and right after that I watched the screen start to flicker and it died.

Damn ur android is really uptight, lets try to revert back to stock and see if ur battery problem is still there. Do u have a stock image without root to flash?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I would like to avoid that if I can, but I will flash stock if I must. I never had this problem with cleanROM though so I think I might try flashing that again first.
Is it at all possible that my battery is just shot and it's simply dying where 20% of the battery actually is?

Try fully wiping your phone. Factory Reset, Cache Dalvik and wipe system a couple times. Then flash the rom and id recommend stock or lean kernel if you phone doesnt like custom kernels. Let it settle in for a day or 2 and see if you get the same problems.
I posted a link in the hyperdrive thread and I've asked the good people of hyperdrive to check it out. So they should see ur question. Hopefully we can help u get this problem resolved.

You could also maybe have a bad battery, and might want to check and see if another battery works in your phone without problems

Cool thanks. My battery seems to be draining normally so far today, but that is how it has seemed the last couple days until it gets to 23ish. But I'm gonna let it drain throughout the day again and see what it does around 20% and if it doesn't change then I will factory reset and everything and maybe try cleanROM, although I'd rather stick with this one.
Will also try to use my buddies battery and see what that does.

I had this issue also and seemed to have fixed it. One thing you may notice is that when you get down to 23%, if you turn the phone off, take out the battery, then put it back and reboot, your battery guage will start showing the correct number and reduce normally. Unfortunately, the problem will happen again upon the next charge.
To fix the issue, I did the following:
1) With the phone on, charge to 100%
2) Once the phone is at 100% (charging light turns from red to green), bump charge it (e.g. unplug it and plug it back in). Even though the gauge reads 100%, the light will be red and the text on the lockscreen will say "charging".....wait until it says "charged" and the light turns green.
3) Repeat #2 until the phone switches from "charging" to "charged" within 10 seconds or so.
4) Turn the phone off, remove the battery, and let it sit for 30 seconds.
5) Put the battery back in and wait for the charging process to begin with the phone powered off.
6) Continue the bump charging process again with the phone off until it takes ~10-15 seconds for the phone to switch from charging to charged (red light to green light).
7) Boot the phone up and continue to use it normally.
I realize bump charging may be frowned upon and doing it routinely will ruin the battery.....however, doing it once like this will not hurt the battery and essentially just recalibrates how the phone gauges the battery. You phone may appear to slightly use more battery after doing this process but in reality is it not. It is properly normalizing over the full life of charge rather than from 100-23%. You should see your phone drop below 23% during normal usage now.
Hopefully, this works for you. It did work for me.

There are two possibilities, either battery calibration is off or the battery is dying. Dying battery behaves exactly like yours. Going slowly to a certain charge level then dying off.
For calibration, I've never found a lot of bump charging to help much. Generally one charge with phone on, turn off, charge with phone off, go to recovery and clear battery stats.
Okay I tried bump charging it over and over for like an hour trying to get the "charged" time down to 10 seconds, but the fastest it ever got down to was 30 sec and it was pretty random, like after I got it down to that it went back up to taking 1 min, 1.5, sometimes 2 min at different times. After the last time I got it down to about 30 sec, I turned the phone off and bump charged it while off. Same thing happened, sometimes 2 min sometimes 30 sec but never within your listed tolerance. After that i booted to recovery and wiped the stats and turned it on so I'm gonna run it through the cycle and see what happens.

Problem solved!!! Successfully just got down to 0% and it took 21 hours to do so! Bump charging it seems to have done the trick
Now that that's solved I guess it's time to flash RLS8

So I just got my g2x, rooted,nv and cwm. Flashed cm7 and I keep getting s.o.d(screen of death). I thought was rom problem so I.changed rom and im on xdblasters 1.1.0 and keep on getting them. Any solution orhelp would be appreciated.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Not sure I know of a rom for g2x called xdblasters.
Also, what kernal are you using? Are you overclocking or undervolting? Are you using setcpu or pimpmycpu? What is your max and min cpu settings? When you flashed, what was your procedure for wiping? Did you fix permissions after flashing? Did you use a program to restore apps? Did you use that program to restore system settings? Did you choose to restore apps and settings from google account?
The answers to all of these questions could help determine what you've got going on.
I apologize, its x boarders. And well I am using fauxs newest kernel currently using 1.1 overclock but it would also happen while at stock cpu with previous rom.i don't restore with google but I use titanium backup for batch. When I do new roms I always follow the clean slate rule;Wipe data, cache, dalvik, bat stats. occasionally I forget fixing permissions but I do when I get alot of force closes.

I didnt' see you mention formatting /system under mounts and storage. This is a critical step.
If it were me, I would try to keep everything as basic as I could each step of the way so that i could try to pinpoint the issue. Start by wiping everything (including sd card...just backup your user added stuff to your pc) and install a stock rom/kernal. See if it occurs stock...who knows? It's possible your phone is bad. Then if it doesn't misbehave with stock, then I would wipe everything again, including sd cards (interal and external), and flash cm7 (keeping cm7 kernal). I would try manually installing apps again, rather than using titanium backup or google restore. Just hook up to wi-fi (so you don't waste your data mileage) and go to market/myapps and redownload (hopefully you have a list of what you have).
But something to point out. On my phone, when I use CM7 (with stock kernal), I have to increase my minimum cpu frequency to either 312 or 456 instead of the default 216....216 seems to cause my phone to get stuck with the black screen also. The same thing happens when I run an undervolt kernal. So I've learned that my phone simply doesn't like undervolting, overclocking, or lettign the cpu run lower than 400MHz. Maybe that might help you out.
i was about to back up my sd and reformat it for that reason.I already tried formatting eemc mount or internal mem, and nothing. I also stopped using uv kernels and i kept my cpu min at 506 to keep it from doing, but with no result.I just flashed the newest release of xboarders 1.1.1 and i already got 3 sod while the rom is stock with nothing added. I am starting to think phone is bad. I bought the phone on Craigslist, so i might be S.O.L. i Appreciate
what should my mounts look like when i do a system format?

AHHHH headache with this phone. When it runs, its smooth and so fast, i love it, but i dont know whats wrong with it.

have you tried a new battery? I believe most of the G2x problems are likely due to a bad batch of batteries.. why you ask I have come to this conclusion? If I OC heavily OR run the LED light when the battery gets low >30%, my phone will shut off. This would conclude the battery cannot supply the needed current for the phone at the lower battery levels... this is my particular battery but I wouldn't doubt there are worse batteries out there AND/OR reported battery levels that are much higher than actual and getting the same problem I have encountered. Food for thought.

I agree with him... I had worst case of s.o.d with my g2x. Atleast 3 times a day I had to take battery out... but I solved it by doing the following
1. Increase min cpu speed 300 or more.
2. Discharging the phone completely and then recharging it completely.
I barely get s.o.d. may be once in 2 weeks. And whenever I do get em. I give my phone a discharge recharge cycle... then its good for next two weeks

What "Screen of Death" are you guys referring to? Never experienced such a thing...
Phone wont wake? Or what? A quick google search for "android screen of death" and "g2x screen of death" revealed pretty much nothing.
Have you pulled a logcat?
I always fully charge and discharge battery for proper calibration. Doesn't seem to be helping in any matter. I also stopped using any CPU management because I thought that was.

Its hardware defect. No matter what ROM you put on the phone, it will continue. Youve gotta call TMO and get a replacement. Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear.
I agree with the battery theory. I purchased two generic batteries from ebay and they last 3 times as long and have resolved many of the resetting and SOD issues that I was having. Also, updated ROMS seemed to help, and not letting it fall asleep while you are playing games or something memory intensive.
Well I bought a battery, hoping that helps a bit. So far its a lil better than usual. Using stock voltage kernel. When I get new battery I will test

I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.

My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Finally, someone (dmaniscool) who can say they switched to an xda dev'ed ROM and got rid of the lock ups. I've posted many times asking if anybody ACTUALLY FIXED a problem (specifically the battery pull lock up); I got no responses, and someone finally stated it. Great. Next time my wife's G2x locks up, I'm rooting and putting a ROM on it.

Will do, so far so good! I had no experience with rooting, and was able to figure it out looking at the guides available on the forum. It kind of looks intimidating, but it's not actually very difficult.
By restart does everyone mean just shuts down? Mine never restarts, it will just shut off.

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.
Hmmmmmm........

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.
The past two nights I have fallen asleep with a close (30%) to dead battery only to wake up and realize it died. No biggie, my fault for not throwing it on the carger. I plugged it in and was stuck at the 'Samsung Galaxy SIII' screen. I was able to manually enter recovery and do the wipe/flash routine.
My question is, is this a symptom of a bad flash or root or something? Do I have to live in fear of a dead phone? I have never experienced this on my other phones, although I don't make a habit of letting the phone die, not withstanding the last two nights
I have since made a nandroid
I am on synergy r118.
Thanks.

Possibly Synergy 118...possibly a bad flash even tho you would have other symptoms as well. Just try to flash any other ROM and see what happens....but also if you just pulled the battery and tried to boot it again and did...then it's most likely just caused by the leaked JB it's not good but not that terrible either. good luck :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the reply.
I will have to wait until this weekend to try another rom....
I would think if it's a synergy issue I would not be the first to find out.
My only other thought is the battery being too dead to do anything, even with wall usb plugged in. When I got my phone to boot after flashing it would show less than 15% charge.
I will try to troubleshoot it with different roms when I get a chance and post here with the results.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
For anyone following this.
I have decided it is an app issue. I reflashed a fresh synergy rom. I am currently restoring apps a few at a time, rebooting, then making a nand everytime it boots ok.
I will let you know what app is doing this when/if i come across it.

If I have this in the wrong section.... Shoot me. just flashed to a new rom. ICS from team blackout. Love it a ton. Seriously had to tweak the processor a bit, but it runs smoothly now. The problem? The battery stats are insane no matter what I do. My extended life battery is toast, I accept that, so I switched back to the stock battery which is now lasting longer than the ext did. But here's the problem. Run phone down to any power level. 15% or 1% doesn't matter if you kill it. Plug it in to charge. Charge till it gets round about 34% and unplug. All of a sudden, I have anywhere from 80% to 99% battery life. But it runs through that in almost no time. Then it will get down to about 28% and spike to 43% without ever seeing a charger! What gives? I would like some dependable stats. Please, let me know what kind of info you might need to get me going. I'm running an HTC Inspire 4G with the latest release of team blackouts ics rom.

Where would I look for that info? Are you talking about the clockwork recovery? I have whatever version is the latest for Advanced Ace Hack Kit.... which is currently on my Linux partition. I believe the last update for the root program was in November 2012. But at any rate, I'll take any pointers on looking for the info and updating it if necessary.

First, give 4ext recovery a shot (at least, I've personally had issues with CWM recently). Get the free app from their website. If you like it buy the app from the Play Store. It will install the most up-to-date 4ext recovery.
Second, redownload the ROM (just to make sure the download is valid) and reflash it from the updated 4ext.
Third, sometimes batteries just get old; if the problem persists try buying a new one. They're not too expensive.
Ok, I'll give this all a shot and get back to you. One question though: the rom is from Team Blackout's link, so when you say valid, what does that mean? And should I do a full wipe of my phone? Also, I seem to be getting a full day out of my stock battery suddenly. (Which wasn't happening with the stock rom) The only quirk is that jump in % when I unplug it before it charges. It discharged like a normal battery today, though. At any rate, I'll go get that stuff you mentioned.

There's several ways you can make sure that the file didn't get corrupted during the download. Re downloading, md5, and opening the zip and seeing if there are folders. You could use any of those.
Please post in the correct section

Ah I see. Thanks for moving me where I need to be. As for the stats, had a very busy week and never has the chance to do any of the checks you recommend. But in the last couple days it's seems the problem fixed itself. Getting more life out of my battery and the stats don't Spike anymore if I have to unplug the phone before it's finished charging. So all in all I'm a happy camper again. Still need to buy a bigger battery to get some serious life, but I can make it with 12 hours. Good to know what steps to take if I run into any other problems, though.

You could buy the powerskin for the inspire. I think they are still blowing them out for $0.01.(yes one penny, not a typo) I use one and it is great. It's a case with a battery built in. The case battery has more juice than what can fit into phone so it lasts all day with heavy use no problem. You just push a button when your phone is almost dead and it charges it back to full with energy left over.

I have an o3d that has a battery percentage problem it displays what it wants when it wants. Such as 70% one minute an 5 mins later its gone to 0% and shut down making it useless unless on charge. It is not a bad battery as i have 7 various batterys that work fine in my other o3d. I have tried the battery calibration apps which delete battery stats .bin and big surprise it did nothing. So i used link to sd to freeze power off
.apk and now my phone stays turned on even when at 0%! This does cause a couple of problems though such as going through usual shutdown precedure only reboots phone (i dont mind though this is handy to reboot). If you reboot whilst percentage is low it wont restart without inserting charger. Phone can still be turned off by holding power button for approx 10 seconds. The worst problem is when 0% is reached the status bar usually force closes (which is a real pain using android without status bar). And camera and a few apps wont work as battery is always low but at least i can use phone. I have learnt so much from xda so i thaught i would share this in case it can help someone. Please share if this was helpfull and if you have any tips on how to fix errors caused by this.

And also if anyone knows what may be causing my problem in the first place any help would be greatly appreciated. I have already tried a re flash of standard rom and a couple of different custom gb roms. And a custom kernal. I am currently trying to work out how to flash ics to try and fix this properly. I do not know how this problem first occured as i brought this phone off ebay second hand. The problem first occured when this phone was unlocked so i was told. I did notice that even though it was sold as o3d and the sticker on the back confirmed this, that it said p925 in about phone not p920. Not sure if this is related. So again if you have an un-usable phone i hope the above can help you out. And thanks again to anybody that could help fix this once and for all.
