Could my internal storage be dead? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Suddenly, from last week onwards, my internal storage seems to be having some problems.
It stopped working last week and is showing some very strange issues.
Under Settings > Storage, it only lists 1.45 GB of total space instead of the 8 GB it's supposed to.
Nothing gets mounted to /mnt/emmc
Using adb shell, nothing related to the internal storage appears when using the mount command.
Under CWM, I cannot mount /emmc
I've tried reflashing CWM and ROMs using NVFlash and still the same problem persists.
Every time I start Cyanogen Mod, the little "SD card is safe to remove" comes up
When I try to mount /mnt/emmc from Cyanogen Mod, it just brings up this message again.
Any opinions?
Thanks.
EDIT: It works now, I did a nandroid restore of the stock WIND firmware and that freed up /emmc... I don't know why this happened when all of my other efforts did nothing.

/emmc/ is your sdcard, not internal flash.
I've had CM7 corrupt my drive. Had to format and start over.

My Sandisk 8 GB class 10 microSD card become corrupted. Most files were OK but some jpg and a backup were unable to be read. When read/transfer/copy was attempted of the faulty files it locked up my computer. I tried various programs to fix and/or retrieve those files and tried a CHKDSK repair but those also locked up my computer so I saved whatever I could and did a full reformat, not the quick one, which completed without a problem and appears to work in the phone without any problem (yet?). You should do the same.

I lost my emmc early this year, think from flashing the wrong kernel. Couldn't find a way to recover. Will start doing more frequent external SD card backups.
Another odd thing I have is going into car mode even though I froze it with Titanium backup. Comes and goes with flashing different stuff. Recently flashed Mazout's on 2.3.4 and working good. But occasional BSOD that requires a battery pull and wipe Dalvik.

...Except no.
When my SD card was removed the problem persisted. Missing 5+ GB.
My SD card is 4GB... How could I be missing more than the capacity of my SD card?
/emmc/ is the internal SD card... the way this ROM manages internal storage. It is configurable in CyMod.
/emmc/ is my internal flash in this case, no doubts.
For anyone who is curious, be careful with mount commands as they will make recovery from this difficult and may be the cause of the problem.

SD Card problem

Hi,
Just installed MIUI on my captivate. Now after mounting storage and i try to copy some file to my sd card, it just unmounts itself suddenly during copying. I tried formatting the sd card, rebooting the phone, wiping data/caches, rebooting pc but nothing seems to work. I just cant copy large files to my sdcard. Small files less than 1 mb copy fine. Any idea on how to correct this??? Is this a rom problem??
Most likely a cable problem. I had the same problem whenever I use the stock cable. I switched and I didn't have 1 problem again.

What OS is your PC running? Have you made any modifications to the ROM (Modems, etc)?

[Q] Strange SD card problem??

Hey guys
I have Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9003, and I am using the vold.fstab mod for swapping the internal Sd card for the external. I have every thing running fine. But I noticed a strange problem. When I open applications, it seems like the memory card gets mounted in read-only mode, as when I try to use any file explorer to remove files, it cannot delete until I either use root explorer with mounting as R/W mode, or rebooting the device. If so, things get fixed, but after some use, the problem recurs. Besides, I noticed that while the problem is active, the gallary opens empty with a message showing up "No SD card detected". Otherwise, and even with the problem is active, apps open normally and flawlessly, but unable to write files or delete them. Rebooting always fixes the problem.
Any idea why this is happening?
BTW, the card is very new and healthy, and opens perfectly with card reader on windows, and sends and receives files to and from the computer very fast, and it is 16 GB.
Thank you
I solved that problem after months of research... You see, the problem is corruption... The explanation is very very complicated so I am giving you the things you need to do to fix that read only problem...
(Should be done by steps)
1. Put your sdcard in a card reader (recommended) and use chkdsk /r (if you are using windows)... Or simply go to drive properties and go to error checking, check all the boxes and start scanning until finish... Put your card back to the phone... Check if the problem still persisit... If it still persist, do step 2...
2. Backup all files to your computer... Reboot your phone to recovery mode and use the format sdcard option in the mount and storage menu... Restore all data afterwards.. If it still persist, do step 3..
3. Believe it or not, some files in your sdcard are causing a data corruption (This was my issue).. The only fix for this is to find out what files are corrupted... Mostly, the directory that contains these files are from:
sdcard/Android/
sdcard/Gameloft/
sdcard/data/
sdcard/lost.dir/
Do step 2 first... When attempting to restore the files back to your sdcard, do not include this directories... This will more likely solve your problem...
4. Some tweaks such as sdcard speed tweak and other sdcard related tweaks in init.d folder is causing this problem... Try to boot your phone without them and see if it works....
Thank you very much.
I really have some gameloft games installed and believe it or not, the problem is almost always occurring when I open these games !!
I will try your solution and inform you of the results .
BTW, what if the problem is caused by the files of these games? And what if the problem recurred after restoring these files? Is there a permanent fix for that?
Thank you

It seems like it's SD card problem, although it's new!!
I was playing on a game installed on USB Storage, and all of a sudden the game became unresponsive. I then forced reboot the device, and when restarted, SD became unavailable!! I went to "SD and storage" settings and both SD card and USB storage give "Unavailable". Pressing on "Mount SD card" does not work! Formatting is not working!!
Any suggestions guys??

BTW, I remind you that I am using the vold.fstab mod, gingerbread version. I tried to install another SD from my friend's phone that is working fine in his AT&T Galaxy S i9000, but once done, it gives me "USB Storage damaged" !!!!!!!

Seems like I lost my SD card
It opens normally in Windows, and I could back it up. When I delete all files, it gives that they were deleted. But when I eject it and reinsert it, the files are not removed
Neither formatting nor chkdsk in Windows work
GParted gives "Unable to open /dev/... as read-write (file system read-only)"
Any suggestions??

do you mind to post a screen short by command mount in adb shell?
Actually, I took the memory card back to the reseller, and they changed it for another working one. I just dont know why would all of this happen! The card is new, but there were problems preceding its damage, like the aforementioned problem of read-only!!

It seems that I forgot to mention regarding a bad sdcard.. Some issues are appearing because your card is either damaged or is badly made... Glad to hear your problem solved...

Actually, during searching for a solution for my problem, some websites suggested the following:
1- if your card gives you that it is read only, try to use micro SD adapter, and put the lock half way between the locking position and the unlocking one, th en try to perform chkdsk, followed by formatting attempt.
2- if formatting has failed, try to use GParted (bootable live disk is available online and can be downloaded).
Your internal SD will subsequently be recovered once the external is recovered, or simply, put a new external SD of whatever size, and you will regain access to your internal SD, and thats supposing you are using vold.fstab mod
Please let us know of the results , hopefully it works with you

CWM backups broken after installing CM9-RC2

After installing CM9-RC2, my backups no longer work in CWM. It keeps insisting that my SD card free space is 0MB, which is definitely not true. I have a 16GB card and there is a lot of free space on it. Has anyone else experienced this?

There are some issues with the SD Card under CM9 (formatting over USB corrupts the FS, slow transfer speeds and possible corruption over USB, and if you try to format the SD Card using CM9, it will format the eMMC instead).
If you have a way to directly connect your SD Card to your PC without using the phone, back up any files the PC can read and format it directly with SD Formatter.
hmmmm, I don't have a microsd adapter to use that reformat tool. However, I'm not sure this is the only issue. I fear that CWM is trying to use /mnt/sdcard which seems to be broken in CM9. My /mnt/sdcard points to nothing. However, /emmc points to the actual internal storage and /emmc/external_sd points to my sdcard. In fact, there is only one file on my external_sd. It is /emmc/clockworkmod/backup where all of my CWM backups are. Also, if I take the external SD card out of the phone, CWM complains that it can't find any SD card and will not backup or restore anything.
i wonder if this is the same issue: http://0xfeedface.org/blog/lattera/2012-06-04/installing-cm9-encrypted-android-tablet

which cwm version r u using
should be the ones listed in my 1st link in my sig
I highly recommend twrp 2.20 recovery to do the backups. You install the recovery using goo manager from the market. The with haptic button install open script recovery. This is much more reliable no matter how many times you flash.

And TWRP is way faster than cwm, it only took 157 SECONDS to backup 1.3Gig of data compared to about 15 minutes for cwm!

internal sd card wont mount

I was going to post this in the AOKP rom page but i figured it'd get seen more here and maybe its not even a problem related to the rom. I recently installed the AOKP rom located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831858. everything was great the first day then i started getting random reboots and losing my data. So I flashed a back up and still got the same problems. I lost my data yesterday, fixed that by manually changing the APN settings and everything was fine other than still getting random reboots. today I went to take a picture and it says "no external storage". I opened root explorer and I can access my EXTERNAL SD card but not the INTERNAL. I tried to mount in via the setting, storage menu and it wont mount. Also tried mounting in CWM recovery, no dice.
Is this a hardware problem or something software related? Anyway to get my stuff back or is it gone? I thought about trying to format it through recovery but how can I do that if it wont mount? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm about to go through and install a "clean" copy of this ROM hopefully. Or I might try another ROM I know works like it should.
Installed a new Rom. Everything works perfect so far but still can't access my internal sd card. Any tricks how to get this back or do I need to just turn it in for warranty?
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Warranty may be your best solution, you'll have to revert to stock using kies/odin which may on it's own fix your issue.
Are you also receiving the "Blank USB storage or has unsupported file system" error?
I have been battling this issue for a friend of mine (I own only the I9300) and I believe I have somewhat of a fix. It will allow you to use an external SD card.
If you can use / access the external SD card on your phone then disregard this message.
If you can't access any of the storage, including the external SD card try following this short tutorial I made:

Im still able to use my external sd card. I can read and write to it from both phone and pc.

The internal SD card is essentially part of the motherboard. If it's corrupted, you have no choice but to warranty the phone out. Kishke's right in that restoring to stock might be your last, best chance.

[Q] USB won't mount after TWRP wipe of Internal Storage + Android Secure

USB Storage and USB Debugging will not mount to Windows 7 PC or Mac
*I'm posting this thread because I have exhausted every option discussed on the internet*
One day I decided to wipe more than usual using TWRP. I wiped Internal Storage and Android Secure. Ever since then, I have not been able to mount USB to my PC. No PC computer on planet earth will recognize my skyrocket. "Unkown Device" is all I get. Every USB cable, every USB port, every PC, every Mac I have tried. I've tried every driver set, I've tried formatting my PC and reinstalling fresh samsung drivers, I've tried Kies, I've tried formatting my SD storage, I've fixed permissions and wiped everything known to Android. Odin will not detect the phone without working windows drivers and neither will SuperOneClick. I'm out of cards. Game over. Every other function of the device works just fine, and I've gotten by using my 64GB external SD card as a means to transfer files between PC and phone. Come to think, this all started when I put that 64gb SD card in my phone and tried to format it and everything else in TWRP. External SD card works, but nothing will mount.
Before I explore the final possibility that the USB plug on my phone is physically damaged, I'd like to know if anyone out there has had any problems with USB mounting as a result of TWRP wiping and/or External SD Card installation/formatting causing things to go awry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will donate to anyone helps me solve the issue, as I need to be able to sell this phone with a clear conscience.
Thanks!
What version of twrp are you using. I saw another post where it wouldn't mount internal with 2.4.0.0. Seems it might be an issue with that version.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
It was using 2.2.3 at the time. I feel strongly that this is an issue with formatting the internal SD card via twrp while adding an external SD card to the phone. I believe the system partition responsible for mounting the phone is corrupted. Maybe a re-partition is the solution? If I could somehow restore the system partition files. I am an avid flasher but partitioning is beyond my scope. Maybe someone can point me to a guide about partitioning.

Hey man did you ever resolve this issue? I just erased a bunch of folders on my internal SD and it won't mount anymore. I'm using a Droid4 and, of course, the problem is consistent on both ROM and stock.
I guess for now I'll have to download from my dropbox account.
Cheers
I'm on the Note 2 (N7100) and have the same issue. I formatted internal storage in TWRP. Now USB is not detected on any pc. Any updates?
