Hello, hoping someone can help a new owner with a few questions?
Just bought a used xoom 3g. I've unlocked, rooted and installed 10.1 rom.
I can't get in to recognise a sim, just states 'no sim'. Unfortunately I didn't test the sim before I rooted it, so I'm not sure if it's something I've done that's caused it.
Also what kernel can I flash that will allow me to overclock on 10.1? I can't go above 1gb at the moment. I tried the eos rom witch I could run at 1.6gb, but prefer the 10.1 rom.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks in advance
Hi,
My first point of call would be to check the ROM you're using supports 3G.
You can flash the stock ROM and check if the sim works then.
Make a nandroid backup first if you don't want to lose all your data, apps, etc
Xoom Stock Images
Use the above link to find the relevant stock images under MZ601, I presume retail Europe?
Use the downloaded files and from bootloader do something along the lines of:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
Stick the sim in, see what you get.
I currently use CyanogenMod 10.1 which allows you to overclock up to 1700MHz/1.7GHz
If it turns out your ROM is the cause of the 3G not working then CM10.1 also supports 3G
[ROM][NIGHTLY] CM10.1 (Wingray/Stingray/Everest)
Seeing as you referred to '10.1' I assume you may have had some form of cyanogenmod? If so ensure you have the Everest version for 3G support.
To enable the performance options you have to go Settings > About Tablet > Scroll down and tap 'Build Number' 6 or 7 times to enable developer options. The over clocking options will then be in Settings > Performance > Processor
Hope this helps!
^ FYI when you do fastboot flash userdata userdata.img all the data on Xoom is lost, including stuff like music and photos!
So, do the following:
Backup your data on a PC and follow his instructions, that's important to know if your Xoom/SIM card is really working. You can find further information on the FAQ (sticky).
Thanks for the help.
I'm running everest 10.1 ROM so 3g should work.
I've tried o2 & three sims from my phones, but just get no sim message.
I've tried entering APN settings manually but when I save them they vanish?
Maybe the 3g side is faulty?
Cheers.

Do a backup, download this Rom and app from link and see if you get a better result... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087668
Thanks, I'll try that.
Although I tried with the official ICS ROM and had the same problem.

Hi guys, i have a problem here, i followed this guide http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Glacier:_Full_Update_Guide everything went smooth
i had to dowgrade as the page says as it had already gingerbread, every step went smooth, then i booted and everything apparently fine, except when i turn on my wifi it autoshuts down after some seconds (the wifi not the phone).
tried 7.2 latest nightly and same thing.
please help
this is a tmobile unit
htc mytouch 4g (aka glacier right?)
note: backed up as directed but upon restore i just get an md5 error so no going back
currently this info is shoing:
android version 2.3.7
baseband 12.28b.60.14eU_26.03.02.26_M
kernel 2.6.35.14 cyanogenmod-g295e82f
mod version cyanogenmod 7.20120909-nightly-glacier
Same problem here. I'm also using a CM7 nightly.
Under Wifi Advanced settings, its showing MAC address as unavailable. So far I've tried a "wifi fixer" on the android market, and I opened up the phone to check the two cables for Wifi.
Try reflashing probably a bad download or u can flash a new Rom such has android revolution or insert coin I recommend these Rom because they gingerbread an are most stable for glacier an really smooth

Be sure you're doing a complete wipe before flashing a ROM. Check out 4EXT recovery, as it has an option for wiping all partitions.

Thanyou, i think I have done wipe, as instructed on link, I followed exactly, maybe is not the rom as I have tried at least 3 cm versions, and 2 non cyanm, I returned to stock (downgrade version, 2.2) and still no luck, but I havnt tried the one it had, stock, 2.3, I have reflashed many times, this is a used phone, that I am unlocking for a friend, and while I was on it he asked for a rom, he got this cheap, and was not using it because of carrier lock, but I actually never checked if wifi was working before flashing it, so probably its just broken and that is why he got it so cheap lol (like 40 bucks) wil trry ota 2.3 and the others you guys suggested, just to exhaust possibilities,, but not with much hope, ty both for taking the time to answer

in my case I can't go to advanced, as it is only available when wifi is on, and I'm not fast enough to setup a network before out turns off, I cheeked someone with same problem on tmobile forums, no root, no flash,.regular ota, support said that if just factoiry reset with no sd, and before installing anything then its phone problem and needs to be replaced,
Any idea how to fix this piece of wifi hardware, are there available spare wifi chips or something? (i obviously can't return to tmobile a is used , phone from a foreign country :$

Weird thing is that wifi tethering works fine. Also I started noticing this problem after switching back to Gingerbread from ICS. I've reflashed several times with the other luck.

Hey guys,
I bought a used phone on ebay, which was in a boot loop.
I fixed the boot loop by flashing a stock rom with flash tool. After that I unlocked the bootloader and tried a ICS rom. It worked fine, but I couldn't connect to a network (no service, wifi works). It tried different sim cards and providers... all with the same issue. If I want to connect manually to a network a message pops up: Your sim card cant connect to this network. The crazy thing is that if I search for networks I find my network but cant connect...
So I thougt there may be a problem with the rom or the kernel->I tried various roms and kernels -> all have the same issues
Maybe go back to stock will fix the problem -> :crying: No I tried it.
I just don't know, what is wrong with this phone. I'm new to SE devices, so I might have done something wrong(?).
I hope someone of you can help me getting the device work.
Thanks in advance

Maybe you only need to set APN
Try to put only wcdma network,in mobile networks

I'll try that tomorow.
The apns are correct.

I tried only wcdma:
It is even worse :sly:. The phone does Not find any Provider networks. So there is not even a chance to select the network manually.
I still think that the device has a software issue and no hardware issue, because it finds the available networks but can't connect to one.
Strange stuff.... :what:

Maybe it's sim locked?
dial *#*#7378423#*#* , look under service info -> SIM lock
0 means it's unlock
1 should means it's locked
This has happened to me before. It happened while I was using the phone, and restating at first didn't fix it.
To fix it, I went to the dialer and dialed *#*#4636#*#*
Goto phone information and turn off the radio, then turn it back on, hopefully that will fix it. It worked for me. Good luck.

So I installed bmm without issue, made my back ups and started trying roms. I had a hell of a time getting anything to boot. I would get stuck on the boot animation every time. Finally got slim kat installed and that is the only one I can reliably boot into. Tried aokp 4.3 which booted the first time but gets stuck on the animation now.
Also, when aokp worked I had no mobile data. Same problem currently with slim kat.
Where do I go from here? I've tried clearing cache and davlik on both with no luck.

Thanks, Wasn't aware of that. I copied my APNs from my stock ROM. I get data now, just not 4g for some reason. I'm looking around to figure that one out.

I only have the options of 3g and 2g with 3g already being selected. I don't know whats going on. My stock ROM gets 4g with those APN's, re-entered everything to make sure I didn't miss anything but I still don't have 4g as an option.

Well wcdma only didn't do anything. After messing with Slimkat and another 4.4 ROM (which only worked until I rebooted) I've decided that there are just too many bugs for me to use it daily. I decided to try a 4.3 ROM but I'm still having issues getting one to boot after the first reboot. I've let it sit on the boot animation for 45 minutes and it never loaded.
I haven't found a lot of advice on the subject of ROMs only booting once. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I realize this is an old one, but I thought it might be worth mentioning...
I had the same problem. When I copied APN data (specifically "apn type") from my stock ROM data did enable, but at a very slow speed. A quick search yielded this AT&T site which suggested different settings. I was able to choose the "ATT Phone" config and modify "apn type" from "default, supl, mms" to "default, mms, supl, hipri".
When I modified that value, data was much faster, but still only clocked 3.5 Mbps on my CM ROM vs 5.1 on Stock with SpeedTest.net app. I believe it used different servers and I only did a single AB test.
...and by the way - I am also a bit frustrated with the BMM setup. It seems like a third of the time I am unable to successfully boot back into my CM ROM. It always seems to boot into Stock ROM fine. I do have CM in the second slot which it sounds like some folks prefer to not use.
Hello, I recently flashed my HTC One M8 on VZW, but to my dismay the phone now has no service, mobile data, or Wifi. On the device the option to enable Wifi is grayed out, and the mobile service says "Disconnected". Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: I managed to return the device to the Verizon store, that was lucky, I tried all of your suggestions and none seemed to work and that was my only option. Thank you
What option did you select on the carrier screen in aroma? Should have been default for Verizon. Did you check md5 before flash? Which recovery are you using?

Its not a brick. You can still flash other ROMs. Flash Skyfall (I personally use this ROM and it works flawless and very close to stock) and see if everything works for you. Also make sure you do factory reset before flashing it. Do not flash any kernels or anything after flashing the ROM.
If everything works, it means something went wrong with your Viper install. I would recommend redownloading it and then trying again after you have tried the above.
That's not a brick :/ Make sure you're using this version of twrp,

do a basic wipe and install using default carrier. You're not super Cid are you?

Hi!
After flashing the AOKP 2014-05-13 Nightly Build together with GAPPS 2014-05-17 my GPS module suddenly stopped working.
I rolled back to the last working NB 2014-04-05 but the GPS could still get no position fix.
I decided to get back to Stock but I still can not get any GPS fix.
What can have happened?
Has the GPS module fw been reprogrammed or something like that?
How do I make it work again?
Please help!
You could try fastboot flashing the factory image from Google.
That will rewrite all of the partitions and firmware. It will also completely wipe your phone so backup to a PC.
The sticky in the nexus 5 general section tells you how to do that.

I have used Nexus Root Toolkit using the "Flash Stock + Unroot" Option earlier but have now also tried the suggested method instead.
But with no success this time either.
When I use Location mode: "Device sensors only" I still get no GPS fix.
The GPS is vital for me and I really want it to work again!
