[Q] Touchscreen fukked! :D - HTC One S

Damn my Girlfriend just let my phone drop to solid concrete after she was getting out of the car ( drop hight about 50 - 60 cm )
Glad she have a insurance For anyone who just ask what it's look like now, see the picture attached. Beside the broken screen, everything works fine though
Does anyone know how much it costs to send it in to Avarto Germany?

I saw LCD + Touchscreen = ~ 208 EUR on ebay

i found something in the web, for 180€ with repair and 1 year warranty from them. well, think this is the best.
Fixing this by myself for 170€( ebay ) is not possible i guess and not worth it for the 10 bucks.

There is not deductible on your insurance plan?
Thru T-Mobile USA if you file a claim with Asurion (The insurance provider) there is like a 130 dollar deductible

UK Insurance

Hi guys,
I was wondering who you all the UK owners use for insurance? I have found a few providers but there isn't much information on here.
What are the best companies in terms of price and reputation?
Surely someone must insure their PDA :S
my Nike is insured with orange (contract), My Universal is insured with Barclays bank.
My phone is insured with orange - costs me a £5 a month - but since I got £5 a month back for giving them my broken old phone plus a 15% discount for being a longterm customer, it's swings and roundabouts...
It ain't worth it.
They have a massive excess and you'll most likely find that it's covered under your home contents policay anyway. They never tell you this when they're trying to sell you the insurance in the store.

Mobile phone insurance?

Would you do this, especially with the potential chipping issue?
sent using HTC1S
i get insurance through my house contents insurance.
if you are suffering chipping issues, send it to HTC for repair / replacement..
you can get cheap insurance which covers theft / accidental damage.. which for a £500 id say is a must.
Thanks for the reply. I have never done insurance before, so no experience in it.
Already replaced one phone for chipping! Haha

It is not necessary to waste any more money on extra insurance since its already covered by your warranty. I also strongly believe you will save more money in the long run by not buying insurance at all.
Lets say you buy the iphone 4s 16gb for 550 euro and you get applecare+ for another 100 euro. Well lets say you dropped it and cracked the glass. Then you need to spend another 50 euro service fee to get it repaired (not sure about the service fee though). So you spent 700 euro for your iphone. Now lets say you bought it without insurance and cracked the glass. Well you can sell your defective iphone for 100 euro. But that means you're still down 450 euro without a phone or 1000 euro if you buy a new iphone again. Compared to being down 700 euro with a phone.
The trick lies in the expectation. I believe you will not crack the screen nearly often enough to make it worth buying insurance for. Lets say you have 20% chance to crack the glass in your first year and 80% to never have any problems at all. Then you spend on average 0.2*1000+0.8*550=640 euro without insurance. With insurance 0.2*700+0.8*650=660 euro.
Warranty covers most of your damages though and accidental damages wont happen nearly as much to make buying insurance profitable.

The difference there is marginal. The factor you are not including is peace of mind. You can't really quantify that. I had insurance on my iphone for 18 months, yes it was expensive (£13 a month) and yes I never used it. BUT if something happened to it (especially in first year) like getting lost/stolen and I had to be without an iphone for remainder of my contract I would of been devestated and would of been unable to afford £500 for a new phone. I could however afford £13 a month and the £100 excess IF it ever came to it.
Luckily my htc is only £8 a month for insurance and £50 excess which was a factor in me changing phones.
with my carrier its £5 a month, No excess fee. If you break it, They send a new one the next day and collect the old one

who is that with?
vodafone UK
that's cheap! they were £13 a month for my iphone.....
now through dial a phone (orange) though so going through my bank for my htc one s insurance
yes, going through bank could be a good choice.
I had an iphone insured through my bank (Barclays) for £5/month (now they want £6.5/month) which is effectively an account fee including mobile insurance and other stuff.
Claimed once when the screen of iphone was smashed, paid only £25 excess fee (unfortunately the insurer increased the fee to £75 first time, £100 second time/12 month).
At the moment, enjoying 3 months free insurance from my seller, then will terminate it and ask my wife to upgrade her bank account and get insurance from there.
Do believe with insurance is much better than without. but just IMO.
i can see pros and cons to both tbh.
as with any insurance its a lot down to personal choice and viewpoint.
I like not worrying about my phone too much, if i break it stupidly (when drunk for example) it will not cost me an arm and a leg.
My orange contract is panther £36 per month but dial a phone give me £7.50 credit a month (this pretty much pays for my insurance).
I think £36 a month for 600 mins, unlimited texts, 1GB internet, free Deezer, free sky sports, and insurance, and free handset is pretty frickin sweet!!!
hell no

What is the best insurance for at&t HTC One X

there are many who can offer insurance for the at&t One X ........I am wondering who provides the best insurance to cover the device ? ? ?
It depends where you get your phone from. That's why I'm getting mines from Best Buy. $9.99 per month and covers everything except lost or stolen without a deductible and as many claims as you like. My wife dropped her gs2 and it was replaced 2 days later.
I used ensquared for my other phones. $65 or $75 for one year and covers everything and up to 3 claims per year with a $75 deductible for the first one and $25 after that
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
AT&T gave me complete coverage for $6.99 a month because Im a premier member... it covers accidental damage, water damage, lost, stolen, and what sounds like deliberate damage.
Deductible is $200 though.

I think best buy is $10 a month, no deductible but doesn't cover lost/theft. I pay $15 for my iPhones and I recall the other phones being less.
Plus they don't mind deliberate damage

Ensquared's deductible is $75 plus an ADDITIONAL $25 for second and third claims... so that'd be 100 bucks a pop if you had to replace your phone more than once. At least, that's what it is currently on their website... don't know if you were perhaps grandfathered in under older, more generous terms.
$75 deductible fee per claim
All 2nd and 3rd claims carry a $25 additional deductible for admin charges.

I only know this because I was checking them out earlier today! Just curious, has anybody actually had to file a claim (or multiple claims) with ensquared? It seems like a pretty good deal, but I am extremely weary of any insurance/warranty type service - it's been my (limited) experience that they try to squirm out of their contractual obligations. As they say: once bitten, twice shy.
I use the Best Buy protection.
- $9.99
- No deductible
- Doesn't cover loss or theft, but you can run it over with a car, and they'll replace it no questions asked.
I'm gonna get a warranty from these guys: http://www.squaretrade.com
2 years comes out to about $5/month and the deductible is only $99
I like my phones to be naked, never broke my nexus one, but you never know...

Of course.
The reason I'm getting it from AT&T is the turn around time for getting a replacement is usually quicker.

FWIW, SquareTrade has a pretty good reputation, however there are some caveats ... for example, it's another 30 bucks for loss and theft coverage, which is included with the $99 2 year Ensquared coverage. SquareTrade's warranty is also only good for 1 claim with a $599 limit(I think), where as Ensquared covers up to 3 claims with a per claim limit of $1000.
Ensquared sounds like a really good deal with the included loss and theft coverage, plus up to 3 claims. But you know what they say about things that sound too good to be true...
I'll never get insurance for the device unless I can't get a warranty.
I'm pretty careful with my electronics so accidental damage has never been an issue.
And I have AT&T/HTC if anything goes wrong with it for a year.
I got some GWG Wireless Protection plan. $80 flat for two years (25 months actually) and $50 deductible on the claim.
http://stars.wirelessprotectionprogram.com/tc/WPPParrot2YTCsAllStates.pdf
It's pretty sweet because now that it's paid for, I already count the money as spent, there's no monthly fee I'm stuck with. $80/25 = $3.20/mo. so it's better than any other insurance plan I've ever had on a phone. Claims can be filled out online I believe or I can just go into the store and they'll help me.
I recently discovered that, if I automatically pay my cell phone bill with my Wells Fargo credit card, they automatically enroll me in their cell phone insurance program. The coverage is up to $600 and only has a $25 deductible! You might check and see if your bank/credit card company has something similar!

Woah, hold on there.
You could get third-party insurance, such as SquareTrade or Ensquared. But you would NOT be able to get insurance from Best Buy if you bought the phone at an AT&T store.
(Of course, Best Buy also sells AT&T contract phones, and if you bought it there, you COULD get Best Buy insurance).
My question is this; if I buy a phone with contract from Best Buy, or Amazon Wireless, can I sign up for insurance from AT&T?
Yes. I added insurance on a phone I bought from Amazon on contract.

I have a friend that has nothing but good luck with Ensquared. Here's the story.
My friend bought an unlocked Galaxy S, and had it insured with Ensquared. A couple weeks after she buys the phone, the mic stops working. She gives them a call and complain, and they told her they will send her out a replacement phone BUT it won't be a Galaxy S, free of charge.
She waits a couple days, and they sent a Brand new LG Thrive (3D) phone and told her to go ahead and keep her old Galaxy S.
My friend then goes out and buy an unlocked Samsung Infuse, insured with Ensquared. The speaker doesn't work as it should. They then send out an BRAND NEW (unlocked) Galaxy S II, back when they were just released last year. It was worth at least $500 back then. They tell her to keep the Infuse, and again refused to charge her for the replacement.
Corporate Discount?
Slightly off-topic, but my company has a corporate deal with ATT, which gets me a % off my bill each month. But I also found out when buying the HOX that with my corporate discount, I can actually buy any phone off-contract at 50% off retail, which means the HOX would be $300 out of contract. I had no idea this was part of our discount and would have never known unless I asked since not ATT nor my company would ever volunteer the info. Anyway, if you have a company discount, check into what it gets you. For me, this makes going w/o insurance a lot easier.
Bought mine at best buy. There insurance is 10 a month with no deductible. If I'm not mistaken att was 8 a month with 100 deductible.

[Q] Galaxy S5 Insurance

Did you get insurance on your galaxy S5?
If so, which insurance did you choose and why?
I got the square trade insurance offered at Sam's Club for $99 w/ a $65 deductible. The thing that sold me on them is they don't send refurb phones. However they do not cover lost or stolen. I'm curious if I've made a good choice because I still have 27 days to get a full refund.

Sprint covers lost or stolen.
They used to replace phones under warranty (without T.E.P.) for $35.00 now it's $75.00
With T.E.P. and under warranty replacement is free (but could be a refurb).
If lost or stolen I think it's $150.00 deductible. Or if it's out of warranty.
How long is Sam's $99.00 warranty cover (a year)?
Best Buy is only a $1 cheaper/mo. Does not cover lost or stolen. Broken Screen is $150.00 deductible. Yikes.
I think Best Buy won't give you refurb either.

The square trade warranty is for 2 years.
Are you sure that replacement is free? Last year w/ my S4 the screen got destroyed and I had to pay $190 just to get a new one. And Sprint told me they couldn't even help me, that I had to file a claim w/ an external company (Assurion I think). The phone I got was a refurb, which I was very angry with. I pay $190 for a REFURB?!
However, I do not like that square trade does not replace lost or stolen. Afterall, thieves today are more active than ever. They do offer an app, however that will locate your phone. But like any thief steals a phone and leaves it on.

$200 deductible. We dropped our TEP on all our phones and are saving $60 a month. Insurance (for sure TEP) is a sucker's game and it took me forever to figure that out. $200 deductible plus $13 a month for TEP over 24 months??? Just buy a N5 brand new and you've saved money. We now have 2x S3's as backup phones we're hanging on to since they were such good phones in case we have to send back to Samsung for repair.
Take a look at the Wells Fargo credit card protection: https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/features/cell-phone-protection/
It looks like pay your full bill for 3 months on their card and you are covered for no premium with a $25 deductible with a lot of small print. I just found out about it so I haven't hit my 3 months yet or made a claim to report my experience.

Well I just got a new M8 for free. Was past 14 days. Without T.E.P. He said it would have been $75.00
Broken screens might be different because that's not a manufacture warranty claim.
I had dropped buying T.E.P. as well for past few years until my M8 died and they said I still had time to add it and get replacement for free.
Got our phones thru costco,
Square Trade was $100 for 24 months with $50 deductible.

I use SquareTrade. Sprint TEP is simply too expensive.
Never have I thought about other insurance providers for the phone other than Asurion, but to cut the cost in half with others?
I've already had to pay a $200 deductible for a replacement, would be nice to not have to spend that much again...
Anyone already previously use companies like SquareTrade? What's your experience? Do they cover lost phones?

What is the real cost to my door of the 64Gb version

I realize that the 64Gb version is $349. But, it has to be shipped from China , go thru US customs, applicable sales tax in Masachusettes.
SO
Shipping cost = ?
Custom duty cost = ?
Massachusettes tax = ?
I had, couple of years ago, bought a phone from Canada and when the USPS was delivering it to my door, I had to pay an additional $33 immediately (I assume Massachusettes taxes and or Customs-I don't remember which)
So I take the 349, add a shipping cost (I am guessing) of $15:00, plus Custom duty/Massachusettes sales tax of about $33:00 will bring the real cost to my door of approximately $400 and change. So the real cost to me will be approximately $400 give n take. It is still a good idea but real numbers mean more than just a listed number.
Any one out there that has received their Oneplus in the USA, what were those other costs?
Thanks in advance.
I can't really answer your question, but for me in Germany/EU there were no extra costs.
300€ + 5€ express shipping + a few € for a screen protector.
A user asked the OP support for the costs and they replied:
Thanks for contacting us. The price for the phone itself (64GB) is USD349, plus shipping fee of $16 for standard and $19 for express, hence the total cost will be around $365-370. The tax is included in the price.

First off, the phone is not shipped from China. It is shipped from Anaheim California. The tax is included in the $349. Shipping is $14 now I believe, when I paid it was $360 in total and delivered via 2 day usps to new York.
