[Q] Nexus s nfc mod question? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive seen threads about nfc mods that lets nfc work when the screen is off or on lockscreen, I was wondering if there was such a mod for the nexus s 4g with a jellybean rom?

Don't some ROMs support that in software?

They do? I didnt know that, Im going to go check and see then, unless you know some?
Edit: I looked into some ROMs, and I didn't find a ROM that supported it, maybe i missed it.

Hmm. I thought AOKP and SlimBean have one in the NFC settings :/
Maybe I'm mistaken.

[Q] Notification bar toggles?

Is there a way to get notification bar toggles on any android phone like the Galaxy S phones have?
The MIUI ROM has this feature. Youtube MIUI to see it in action.
If I'm not mistaken, this feature is coming soon to CM as well.

Hm, already have an iPhone 4, dont want an iphone style rom. I'll look into the CM rom.
Looks like they will be available in 6.1.
Looks awesome:

This is a bit of a bump... but better than starting a new thread I guess.
This is of course in CM7, but I find battery life from the MoDaCo ROM much better on my Nexus S, but I really miss these toggles.
Anyone found an apk to do it yet?

How do CRT animations actually work?

And how could they be added to an ics ROM?
ARHD has a flashable zip, it's basically a line of code, but unfortunately HTC has made it hard as they have deleted some files for it to work properly. AOSP ROMs like OpenSensation CM9 have in in Settings>Display though
Just had a quick look on the arhd thread, but the CRT add on zip that was supposed to be in the second post has gone.
Apparently it's no longer on the arhd thread since it wasn't compatible with the ics ROM. So why hasn't anyone made it work on ics yet? How does it actually work and how could it be implemented?

I saw this the other day for 3.32 based ROM's, I haven't tried it yet though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538485
Thanks, just tried it now. It made a right mess, the whole screen was corrupted, countless force closes, etc. But the animation looked nice when I turned the screen off! Safe to say it needs work, but it's a step in the right direction at least.

Google Now for ICS?

Does anybody have the Google Now app that was ported to ICS? Also would it work with Liquid's ICS?

I've installed it but only weather notifications work. Voice search is also a little glitchy. I would love it if I could edit sports teams to receive notifications, etc. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. The option to edit teams is greyed out in the Google Now options.

It's in Jesters ICS build. However it's NOT in liquid's ICS build, but can be easily added though.

Sorry about that. I have Jester's build on my phone... also tried to edit the double post but it won't let me as a noob
As for the sports teams, I'm having trouble too. It found the Baltimore Orioles for me and notified me of the score. The only trouble is that I'm not a baseball fan; instead, I wanted the Ravens tracked but there's only the option to uncheck the Orioles with no way to add the Ravens. I tried some pointed google searches and no go.
I chose not to use this while running the Bamf release due to poor battery life. Now that I'm running liquid I'll have to install it when I get home from work.

Either of the link posts I made or Jonah's post will direct you to the versions you need. You're looking for the ARMv7 version(version for ARMv7 devices, like ours).

well, i've experienced some issues with the voice aspects on liquid ICS, as have others. google now works perfectly on jester's desensed rom and the bamf leak. i'm hesitant to look further into my issues with google now on liquid ICS because i believe some of issues with voice are yet unresolved issues with the rom itself, as it works on two of our other ICS roms perfectly.
No way in hell am I going back to Sense...
I would rather live without google now then to live with sense anything *shudders*

Just a random thought.

Was just wondering that the things that were used to fix CM10 broken wifi and calls n stuff can be used to fixed the MIUI things too ?
Is it possible ?

Well not with what rdavisct and I have working in the background about miui. we are going to compile it, just like I am doing with CM10 right now, and miui is based on stock. The issue with the other miui was that is was based on the ME865 not the MB865 and that is why the wifi does not work on most peoples phones. The two have slightly different hardware.

[Q]Stable stock-ish rom with NFC polling options.

I'm currently running Cataclysm rom on my Nexus 5 and really like it. Very stable, and does just about everything I need. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like its going to be updated anytime soon, so I'm looking for an alternative that's current with 4.4.3 at least (prefferably 4.4.4)
I've seen a few people in the Cataclysm threads recommend Purity Rom, however, I don't see NFC Polling options on its list a features, and this is a must for me.
Anyone have a suggestion for a good stable Nexus 5 rom that's up to date and has NFC Polling options?

Have you tried rastakat?
Use any ROM you want, install Xposed and NFC LockscreenOff Enabler module.

I looked at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/rom-rastakat-vanilla-t2541185
But I don't see anything about NFC mentioned in the feature list.

Haven't played with Xposed yet, but I may just do that if I can't find a rom with that feature built in.

I'm running slimkat on my tablet, and it doesn't have the NFC Polling option either. Looks like I may have to go with the Xposed option.

Yeah, I think its in AOKP, and probably others. I used to run those type of roms, but they were just too flaky for me. Too many random browser crashes and such.
