[Q] Best sense rom/settings for gaming performance? - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

looking for the best gaming performance on my Shift. currently im on Motoblur'd V2.0 and loving it. but i have a affinity for Sense UI. is there a rom or kernel or settings for any of the Sense roms that will allow similar performance to the CM roms that will allow me to play games like Beat Hazard Ultra and Dead Space and Galaxy on Fire 2 without so many hiccups?

Pretty much all the Sense Roms here are great. But go to right now when people for me are StockMod,strapped365's Rooted Stock OTA, newSense, and legendary-InFaMoUs 2.2. As for kernels both drop's , and strapped's kernels always worked well for me.

would if i could get newSense to boot. probably because of TWRP?

Hmm might be
Whats your wiping procedure? System, data, cache, dalvik multiple times before flashing? I would highly recommend dread7us' CWM enhanced recovery over TWRP

Yeah, TWRP has been known to have trouble flashing sense roms in the past. Works great on my Touchpad...not so much on the Shift.

no worries it finally installed. went from Motoblur'd to Supreme Sense VII to newSense. figured it might behave better if it had a sense rom to come from. saw that happen a few times between roms on my old DroidX and LG Ally.
yea i wipe everything at least 3 times. system, cache, dalvik, factory reset in that order 3 times in TWRP

There's a Guide somewhere on Flashing. I wonder where that is :silly:

haha...gee i wish if there was an entire sticky about it

Sense-based Rom's were always slow for me but I don't know why.

Which Official Sense 3 ROM is best so far!

As the title suggests, i would like people to share their thoughts and opinions on which sense 3 release built from the new OTA is the best!

most stable?
least/no bugs?
best battery life?
best for daily use?
how does it compare to voidu?
At the moment we have the following releases:
Hyperion ROM V1.0|Sense 3.0|GB 2.3.5][mod UNITY kernel |OC|FFC]
Desire S Official Sense 3.0 - [GRJ90] [2.3.5] OTA 2.10.401.4
Pre-Rooted Saga S HTC Europe 2.10.401.4 odexed/deodexed (GB 2.3.5/Sense 3.0)
Have fun!
EDIT:Sorry, Ignore the Pyramid3D entry in the poll. My mistake!!
VoidU!
I'm afraid that I'm biased and vote for VoidU! Why isn't that included? (I know I know "official") but, it's still sense 3.0 and certainly the slickest, most configurable, bug free ROM that I've come across and certainly remaining my daily driver, until I'm convinced otherwise! (you have to hand it to the RC Mix3d team - with VoidU they have a finished product whereas most of the above ROMS are in the first days, so can only improve - so the future is bright!).
So I'm very keen to watch the results of this poll and also glad to see a sudden influx of recent Sense v3.0 ROM competition.
I even heard a rumour than a new LBC ROM Sense v3.0 ROM may be making an appearance in the future (please don't ask him for ETA's though!).
Hi ben, thanks for your input!
Voidu isn't based on the official release as u say but i will include it in the poll as per your request... the only problem is i can't find a way to edit my poll now?

yer..I know through my own personally frustrating head scratching experience that adding a poll to a first post isn't possible once you've created it (we'll unless you're a moderator) so it might be the same for amending an existing one! Never mind!
This morning i performed a full wipe and flashed this ROM:
PreRooted_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.4_deodexed-signed
Completely untouched Official Sense 3 Android 2.3.5
I removed ALL the bloatware + htcloggers.apk and tellhtc.apk with Titanium Backup
Then did my nand...
So far, excellent battery life, excellent performance and not a single bug found!
My favourite so far

Hi i want to go to this rom. i am currently running lbc 0.6.0 with unity v4 kernal. can i just flash this rom as usual or do i need to do some other stuff first. I've already bricked one ds and had htc replace it as they couldn't fix it so a bit nervous about what i can and can't do. Any help would be appreciated.
VoidU is based on a DHD Leak, so it's pretty official. It's the best IMO.
Remove Pyramid3D, as it's not official. It's based on Sensation.
Tried quite a few different ones but I always come back to VR - Virtuous Unity v2.39.0 just works.
Would love to patch in Beats Audio!

Which ICS rom is best???

Looking to get a few opinions from ppl that flash multiple roms to their devices. Looking for something that is stable, not overclocked, and has the least amount of reported issues. Thanks in advance!!
i am currently using insertcoin 4.6.1 and it is very stable and fast also without overclocking it
Android Revolution HD is great, very fast, very stable and I've had no issues so far.
The Android Revolution HD ICS is a really good ROM. I just recently flashed it and love it. It's fast and stable. I performed the benchmark test with the ROM and came up around 2900-3000 compared to the previous 1900s.
I will second Insertcoin. The only issue is the inbuilt WiFi tether being broken, but I believe that is an issue with ALL current ICS roms. Barnacle works wonders.
Flashing Android revolution as we speak.. I thought it was supposed to give an option to select 1.2 or 1.5?
InsertCoin and ARHD are both extremely popular options. My suggestion is to try them both and see which one works best for you. Give each one a few days to get the kinks worked out and always make sure you do a full backup and Super Wipe every time you change ROMs!

I had the same thoughts as you when I was using Clockwork Mod to flash roms, it never asked anything about the install. Now, I use Touch Recovery and I have yess/no options when I flash roms now
Its really difficult to find a fully compatible ROM for your phone, as what happen to mine tried the popular one which i got a lot of issues some people not, so I tried other. Every ROM's claiming fast/stable. To be fair you can to try each for yourself which I did and happy with what i have now. Different people have thier own choices depends on what their need. Go out and explore there now 44+ ROMS you can narrow down which is more popular and depends on their feedbacks. Goodluck.
If you would like to try non-sense I recommend miui v4 or either CM9 kang. I've had zero issues with either.

ENERGY ROM is very stable, fast, and also lightly themed...... overall an extremely smooth ICS ROM...give it a try....you wont regret
blackICE is the best from all aspects
bigpercaso has created a ROM which is the best by performance stability and on top of all the ROM is themed so beauty ................

Yeah, it will ask you but only if you have installed 4Ext recovery instead of clock work mod. In my experience 4Ext is a much more complete recovery.

+1
But super cid is not needed.
No issues so far and hotspot works perfectly.
insertcoin rom is the best for me
I've been running Android Revolution HD 5.3 since January. This was my first experience with a non-stock android device as I bought the device configured in that way. I was very happy with it, but couldn't get HTC Sync to transfer my contacts and found it a little laggy, other then that it was great. The best advice I was given to fix my issue was to reload/update the ROM. Mike actually uploaded his latest version 6.4.0 while I was downloading 6.3.1 so I scrapped that and went with 6.4.0 since it was based on the Final HTC RUU 3.32.401.3.
Its only been a day so its not much of a test, but so far its way better and faster then the old ROM even when it was fresh. HTC sync worked flawlessly. the response time is as close to instant as you can get. You need to use 4ext recovery to have the option to use the 1.5Ghz kernel or load the Sony Bravia engine. I chose both options and have seen no issues, only improvements.
Like everyone said its really your taste so try out a few varieties, just remember to superwipe between them else you might find bugs that aren't really an issue with the ROM but because you didn't clear all the old data.
All the best and have fun.

Cannot Install Custom Kernel

This is a strange problem that I only started to have once I installed Team Nekkid 7.2 RC dated 3/29.
I can flash the ROM no problem, wipe dalvik and fix permissions and I'm good to go without any issues. But if I flash the ROM, then either morfic or faux kernel, then gapps, when I go to wipe dalvik, all I get is a quick screen flash with no option to actually wipe dalvik.
I go back and wipe the overall cache completely, fix permissions, the reboot. I am now stuck at the morfic boot animation until i pull battery.
If i try to install a Faux kernel, same thing happens with dalvik, but gets stuck at the blue LG screen.
Once i battery pull and get back to CWM, i wipe everything, reflash ROM and gapps, wipe dalvik and fix permissions no problem and boot up into whatever ROM i choose.
EDIT: Went back and flashed Bionix 1.4.1 and was able to flash a Faux kernel and wipe dalvik. Booting up this ROM now.
I also have NO problem with ICS ROMS/kernels.
When you say NO PROBLEMS with ICS ROMs, does that include Google Maps and the stock browser working perfectly??
Which ICS ROMs have you tried? How is battery life?
Thanks!
Flash kernel last, and redownload the kernels!

I did all of that. I flashed the kernel before and after gapps but end up with the same result.
I have a feeling there is an issue with the CWM since I am constantly flashing roms/kernels and have never had these problems before. I'm at work so I cant use the Nvidia tool to flash CWM so I have to wait until I get home.

I usually just follow the instructions precisely by the OP. (Wiping/formatting, flashing rom, gapps, restart + let 10 min stand if required by OP) I have not installed another kernel that what the ROM has included. Should I try that? If yes, which one? I currently have EGB AOSP ICS 4.0.4
[UPDATE] Ok I got it now. Just read your last message

Short answer: yes, install a different ROM
Long answer: go to the developing section of the G2X forums and find out the info with the countless threads.

I've tried 3 different ICS roms and read hundreds of posts and found nothing that would fix the maps and browser issues. I guess I have to wait a bit more for the devs to work on them. Maybe the lack of drivers is the problem.

My main concern is Google Maps not working properly. I rely on it in my job a lot and can't have it blanking out on me like that.
I've tried the replacement solution for the stock browser - I installed Dolphin HD. I'll try Firefox, though. Haven't used that on a phone since I had the Nokia N900 - Ah, the good times when I still believed in Nokia
Thanks for your help!

If the maps shows up and then goes blank, simply close the map and re-open it.
I know the close/reopen "trick," but I thought there might be a ROM that just has the Gmaps working. If there's none I'll just wait. Is Owain's unofficial 55 based on 4.0.4 ? I'm also going through his thread now in hopes of finding it. I'll probably just flash and see then.

Degradation

Has anyone experienced degradation over time? I've been using CM10(nightly build for about 3 days and it seems like it has become a little buggy. Yes I know this is a nightly build and I did a search with no clear results. Just curious if anyone is experiencing the same issues? First it was the Wifi and then my cell signal indicator kept greying out. So I decided to try AOKP Evita for the HTC One X and flashed it and the wifi wasn't working at all with that rom. So I flashed back to CM10 and it seems to be working a lot better and faster. So do these mods degrade over time? If so, is there any easy method other then trying another mod because CM10 so far seems to be about the best just from reading and trying the AOKP CM 10 seems to be about the best out there.

i'm looking for a rom, which does not skip frames. i mean iphone smoothness. i guess this can be achieved with a JB aosp/aokp + nova launcher, but i was not lucky enough. ive tested initiate your swagger, opensensation 2, paranoid. Did you try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782009 Go for the 10thDec2012 build. I was having lock screen freezing (while USB charging) issues with the 21stDec2012 build so I reverted to the earlier build.
I had an older version of Angry Birds 2.1.1 which is playing ok on this ROM.
You can download the ROM from http://goo.im/devs/bruce2728
more precisely http://goo.im/devs/bruce2728/cm-10-20121210-bruce2728-pyramid.zip
Make sure you have a nandroid backup of your current setup before flashing.
