I have been reading this site through out regarding common HTC problems and came across WIFI issue with HTC.
History:
I got this linksys router and i get connected through my laptop(s) quite easily by just entering the passkey (current security is WPA-PERSONAL) also, i have been using e72 before and it uses to get connected flawlessly too.
Currenlty:
I bought this HTC desire (awesome mobile) but i am unable to connect to my home wifi. I tried connecting to another secured network and by just entering the passkey it got connected for experimenting more i tried connecting to hotspot (nexus one froyo) through open connection which worked as well quite easily. It is just my home router which is giving trouble to me on my desire whereas i tried to make it work by changing different settings and even by making it open source but all in vain.
If someone has any idea how i can get it connected to linksys with settings change (any settings which can wrk on HTC) then it will be a big relief for me as this is really not working well for me
I am having the exact same problem and I have the same setup. Our problems are eerily similar. Even I owned an E72 earlier and now the HTC Desire. Pretty sure it is something to do with the Router. I jst upgraded the firmware today to the latest build, but still having the same problem. I think its probably the hardware version of the WRT54G. The version 7 is the only one having an Atheros chip. All others have a broadcom chip.
Try changing the security settings in the router to none. I used to own the 54G router. I upgraded to the E3000. My dad has the evo and we now get wireless n service.
Anyone knows how to setup wireless tethering on Touchpad?
I have Miui Android on Motorola Defy. I tried Wireless tether and Barnacle apps but my Touchpad cannot detect connection.
I read somewhere that TP will not work with Adhoc wifi...is there a way to get infrastructure wifi on Android? any other suggestion?
my vibrant runs cm7.
i simply go into my settings > wireless > wireless tether
works fine
Are u from Dallas Texas?

i have a question relating to this... i have an original droid and is it true that CM 7 has he ability to add a non ad-hoc wifi?
It worked no problem on my Samsung T959 running Trigger 3.2
How did you get it to run with your evo 3d? I've been trying without any success.

Are we saying that touchpad can connect to SOME ad-hoc networks, depending on what security is used?

i don't think gingerbread runs it in ad-hoc mode.
i think it sets it up as an access point.

I've allready tried with my Defy under CM7 without success at this time. Barnacle does Ad-hoc Wifi, and webos cannot connect to Ad-hoc Wifi.
I tried with "WiFi tether" for root witch allow infrastructure mode but unsuccessful for now.
We need to find the good app and the good settings...
I have the ridiculous situation where I have my trusty 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab (on 2.2) running its Wireless Access Point software and a Wireless 'ouchpad - has anyone tried this combo?
My TP connects fine to my Galaxy S2, security set as WPA2
Hi all, I have an unrelated question to ask. I just got my tp this mornign from hp, for whatever reasont that might be, I couldn't connect to the hp catalog(hp app store). Does anyone else have this problem as well?
I am using a rooted DroidX and Barnacle WiFi will not work with the Touchpad. I installed "Open Garden WiFi Tether" and it successfully tethers.

it connects fine to my router at home using WPA2 also, just not my desire s for some reason.
My Touchpad initially would not see the hotspot from my Evo 4g running CM7, but after upgrading the Touchpad to the new firmware it is all set. I'm using WPA security.

Hey, guys?
Any progress in connecting our touchpads to Motorola Defy phones?
My TP connects fine. Tmo G2 running CM7 nightlies. I use the built in wifi hotspot and WPA2 encryption. No problems.

I had the same problem trying to connect using WiFi Tether on my Epic 4G, which i downloaded from the Android Market. That version only uses WEP and the TP just couldnt see the connection. I downloaded an updated version of WiFi Tether from the developers site, which supported WPA2 and the TP saw it and connected with no problem.
Finally my first post...lol
I own a Samsung Infuse which has terrible Wifi strength. I have to be in the same room as the router in order for it to connect.
Is there anyway that I can use my Transformer as a hotspot while its connected to my network so my phone can connect to the Transformer?
No, cant be host and client at the same time.

How is that possible? Unless your TF is 3G capable, once you turn the TF wifi hotspot on it shut off the WiFi connection.
I can tether my TF to my Nexus 1 but not the other way around.
are you on latest firmware? I saw something in another thread about it, but its definitely an option here and worked when I tested it!

I have a Optimus 2X... The PHONE is the one to put like an hotspot... Then i can use it coneected on my asus transformer...
I just bought a ASUS TF300T (refurbished). Everything seemed to work fine. I updated it a couple time via OTA updates. It is now running stock 4.2.1 JB. I have only had this tablet for a week. The last couple of days it seems to constantly drop the WiFi connection to both my router and my Nexus 4 when wifi tethering is enabled. Often time this will even result in the router disappearing from the available wifi network list. I have tried switch my router to different channels and it doesn't seem to help at all. I have also tried wireless N on my router so that is only running 802.11 B and G, but that didn't help either. Also both my laptop an my phone do not experience any wifi issues with my router.
So after changing settings on my router and also seeing the same issue when connecting it to my phone it seems to be an issue with the tablet. My questions is should I try running a system restore? I think I've read somewhere that this tablet has experience some issue after do OTA updates and do a system restore fixed some issues (can't remember what the issues where). Or do you think it is just faulty hardware, and should I exchange it for another one as I'm still well within the 90-day warranty?
Hello,
Since 1 week I can't connect my shield Tablet (Original One) to my phone for Android Tethering. The wifi on the Shield say connected but No internet access. I tried with another phone on Android (and another carrier) and it's the same. Finally the last test was to connect my phone to another device and it works. So the tablet never works on Android Tethering... Strange Thing, 1 week ago it worked without problem. Any idea ??
Otherwise WIFI works on airport, @ my home....
Cheers
I am experiencing the same problem using a HTC One M8. I cannot tether with any other Android phone either. This first occurred a short time ago. No explanations forthcoming
Tethering from a Huawei Mate 8 (Marshmallow) to the Shield (Nougat) works fine here (@ 65Mbps) :good:
