Hi All,
Couple of weeks ago I got an unexpected touchscreen problem on my HTC Desire S. The phone's "menu buttons (back, home, etc..)" often stop responding, I have to lock/unlock the screen couple of times in order to get the required response from the phone.
When I type on the keyboard, sometimes multiple keys are clicked (and I have only clicked one). Sometimes the phone and the touchscreen works on it's own (clicking, selecting random things) and again I have to lock/unlock... and sometimes even then it's not fixing it.
The phone is rooted with unlocked bootloader and with S-ON. I was working fine od CodeFireX ROM (Jelly Bean based), for almost a month when I started getting this problem.
First I thought it was the software, so I installed a different ROM (JellyTime). But after couple of hours, the same problem appeared again.
I thought maybe if I install a HTC Sense-based ROM, maybe that will do the trick... So i installed Fallout Evolution 5 ROM. It was working fine for an hour or so, and then the same problem again... the buggy touchscreen appeared to haunt me again.
I don't think it's software-related... I read something about the digitizer, maybe it's something about that... I don't know...
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Maxim
You're right
Hi Maxim!
I have had Desire S for a year and this happened too, I tried the same "rescue" methods, and it was a failure, so I decided to buy a new digitizer from ebay. As you know, it's quite difficult to find a good, original digitizer on ebay, but I suceeded and bought it for 16 pounds (as far as I remember). As my Desire S is broken now, I can offer you my own digitizer on a quite low price! Just let me know in PM, if you are interested.

I don't know if this was ever fixed but I just bought the HD2 off a friend and i saw it work for him but when i received it, it boots up normally, but then when i try to touch the screen, nothing responds except for the actual buttons. It seems to be running fine, just the screen doesnt respond to anything. No warranty. Is there a fix?
It sounds like the digitizer may be busted... You could consider trying to replace it yourself but it's a tricky business, especially when some models of the Leo require soldering to get the new one on
You could also try a different ROM. To be honest though, I would ask for your money back, as it's not in the condition you wanted.
I am wondering if this truly is a digitizer issue. This happened to me the other day. I reflashed my nand rom, and it eventually "woke up" and started working fine after about an hour.
Very strange, indeed. I'm hoping it is a software issue and that my digitizer is not failing...
love to hear some more thoughts on this!
I also have this issue, but when I press the screen very hard (very very hard) or when I press the end call button continuously then it works all again.
Same thing here. I got my HD2 since last March. It works really well until recently. If I let it sleep, the screen would not respond at all when if I wake it up. Luckily, it still under warrantee so T-mobile will replace a new one for me.
I've been having a reoccurring freeze issue with my HD2 no matter what build I am using. On the initial first time startup everything works fine until the display goes to sleep. Once it does, the touch pad freezes. Hard buttons still work although don't do anything since it's stuck on the lock screen, and even if I soft reset or reflash anything, the problem persists.
Not even disabling the lock screen helps. Even if I install lock screen disabling apps (I've tried them all), the touch screen is still non-responsive when I wake the display.
Whether I use stock winmo, custom winmo or android (NexusHD2 gingerbread 2.3.4 as of late, but I've also used the old Desire Android 2.1) makes no difference; neither does reflashing HSPL, radio, ROM, Recovery CWM, reformatting SD card, fixing file permissions or even performing Task29. I've even restored everything all the way back to stock winmo which didn't work, so I performed every step along the road to getting back to Android. No success. I'm at a loss because I've tried every solution I have found online in just about every order imaginable.
There has to be some solution to this issue and I'm hoping that SOMEONE out there will rescue me. It's been a problem since I first got the phone and although even once in a while it will work for no apparent reason, it has been in this status for some time.
PLEASE help. I'm tired of paying a bill for a phone I can't use.
It's most likely a hardware problem. Your digitizer has most likely went out, I'm not a pro but it happened to me before.

Is the digitizer easily fixable or would I need to replace it? Or would it just be overall cheaper to replace?
Ok, so my friend got HTC Rhyme, 2 year contract and all that. The phone worked fine for about a week, when it started having random shut-downs. She sent the phone to an official HTC repair shop, it was there for about a 20 days, and they returned it, stating that they couldn't find any of the issues she reported (random shut-downs, overheating problems, bad responsiveness, and stuff like that). But, they "put the phone under serious work load to test things mentioned". They reflashed the RUU.
2 week later, the phone has the same issues. We take it again, this time with a specific request that they change the complete motherboard, with the CPU, camera server, NAND, etc. She got the phone about a week ago, and it still has the same shut down issues. Should we request a new phone, or is there any other solution. And, does anybody here know, what could be the trigger for this problem.
Thanks.
Seems to me like the CPU is having problems maintaining the clock. That same thing happens on my wildfire when I overclock it to the max. It the phone is rooted try to underclock it. If not, you should definitely take it back and request a new one

i have same problems
random shutdown
There are two conditions for the occurrence
first - dockstation
second is - unlockboot and super user
but when i delete su and lock boot.....i have all the same shi......but after a while.....
SO i think problem with power lies in a dock....may be...
ps/english/for/my/sorry)
If you still have the option, I would advise you return the phone. My girlfriend has had the Rhyme about 6 months now and has had nothing but problems. Power cycling hers takes a minimum of 5 minutes (no exaggeration) to come back up At least half a dozen times a day it will show HTC white loading screen or just loading icon when she presses the Home key or back key, etc when she goes back to the main screen. It freezes a lot and gives the same HTC loading screen, etc. Overall, the experience with the Rhyme has been very negative experience and we haven't been able to fix it regardless. :/
hey everyone got a quick question. so last night was messing around on my phone and all of a sudden it just started freaking out. opening and closing apps, mimicking long presses on the screen and all kinds of crazy stuff. the phone is rooted with jellybam and also has a replacement screen in it thats been on there for about 3 months now. im wondering if this sounds like a problem with the digitizer (new one is on the way just in case) or if it could be something in the software? any help appreciated. thanks
"All kinds of crazy stuff"!? Could you be more specific? I don't know if jellybam runs off cm source... Cm has had an issue with short press behaving or acting as long press. This issue was logged and fixed recently. Reboot fixes the issue. Also perhaps try reflashing jelllybam in recovery. If issue persist, probability of hardware issue is more so.

i've had that happen using 3rd party charger or if my phone really needed a reboot. i would think screen could definately be the issue also. did you match the exact same hardware with the replacement?
Lost touchscreen handling in upper and lower part of my screen!!!Pls Help!
I have a rooted device with xsba's custom rom (4.0.4). The problem started before this ROM. I am pretty sure that this is no rom issue. I have flashed the phone several times with numerus roms. Problem persists.
I already have changed touchscreen once because of a serius fall (broke) approximately 6 months ago.
These are all the facts. Before xsba's rom i used thiaiz o3d. (2.3.7). The problem started one day that i hadn't charged the phone up. When the battery fell under 5 % the phone went berserk. (Numerus button presses all the time)
I couldn't even reboot. When I finally turned it off by removing battery and restarted the phone the upper field of touchscreen of the phone never worked again.
Yesterday i failed to charge again.ASfter finally restarting the same issue appeared in the lower field of touchscreen. Please advice!!!!!!!!
Is there a way to solve this problem without changing the touchscreen?

Now , you need to go to developer options in the settings and enable show touches option. Then you touch and slide to the parts that don't work . If you see the line going there , then it's a problem with your ROM. If it's not , then you possibly have a broken touchscreen. Check the contact of the touchscreen ribbon and see if it's tightly sitting on the slot , press it down and try again.
If it's not working , you have no choice but to replace the touchscreen. You can buy one off eBay for 19 dollars and free shipping. It's made in China but it works well without problems for the past 6 months with my device.
Hope I helped.
Cheers!

HI did you ever solve this? I have the same problem, or very similar with middle and lower sections of screen dead, strange ghost touches and screen going crazy every so often, all started after I rooted phone. Was it just a broken touch screen? Cheers
