Has anyone else had this problem just recently? I noticed that a new app called "Google Settings" randomly appeared on my Note this morning and since then, Gmail and Youtube are no longer able to go into multiwindow mode. I tried using MW Manager to fix Gmail... but it looks really weird in fullscreen mode. There's just this huge empty space on the right side while all the content is squished on the left side, as if it's still in windowed mode. I have not tried MW Manager for Youtube, yet.
I am running on stock Jellybean 4.1.2 and I'm rooted. I have no idea what's going on, since I've only had the tablet for 2 weeks and I barely downloaded anything (just some apps like LectureNotes and Layer Paint).
Any info/suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Sorry I have no idea why your youtube isn't multi Window anymore mine still is but I did notice the Google settings app randomly appear this morning, I was changing the lock screan apps at the time when it happened don't know if that had anything to do with it?
Update: seems google has installed a useless settings app on all of our devices overnight personally I dont want or need this so I would like 5o disable it but it isnt a listed app in application manager.

My youtube app doesn't work and shows in settings as 0.00kb, what can I do to fix this problem?
I'm having the same issue. When I search for it in the market, it says "Open" as though it's installed, but when I click open, it brings me to the install screen. I hit install, it shows the progress bar for a second or two and then goes away. I can see Youtube in the manage apps screen, but not in the app drawer. If anybody has any suggestions here please let me know.
If it's just a select few of us, then maybe I'll try a factory reset. I'd just hate to lose all the setup work I did on it today.
It probably installed the "phone" version of YouTube. Uninstall youtube through settings and that will fix it. It is factory installed as part of the moto rom. Installing the market version conflicts.
It is nice that it preinstalls all the apps you had on your phone, but this has caused issues for some people. I uninstalled every app that was auto installed and then manually installed the apps I wanted.
I did a factory reset and it's on there now. Not the most subtle solution, but it worked.
Anyone with the wifi xoom test the youtube HD playback? Whenever I load an HD video in youtube (fullscreen) and click on the screen to bring up pause, seek bar etc the frame rate gets cut in half and I get massive lag. Is this happening to anyone else?
Here's a sample video.. is it supposed to lag/freeze when you tap the screen to bring up the youtube controls?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW8AZD_oaRE&feature=player_embedded
It happens when I don't touch the screen sometimes too, even after the video has been fully loaded.
Thanks..
I need some help with my Gmail app on my Xoom.
Yesterday I was watching a Youtube video when my Xoom wouldn't stream any more. I rebooted it and it worked fine except when I try to launch the Youtube or Browser app from Gmail.
I got an email that someone uploaded a video to Youtube and when I click on the video to see it, I should get a pop-up asking if I want to launch it using Youtube or Browser just like it did before my reboot.
Now that never happens, the screen turns grey just like it would launch the pop-up but it never appears. It doesn't block the tablet because if I click on the screen it just goes back to Gmail like I didn't select anything.
Any ideas how can I fix this?
Thanks
No one? Absolutely no ideas what I should try?
I still need some help on this one...so if you've got any ideas please step forward
Having the same issue... and... it seems that clicking on a short cut from anywhere on the xoom produces the greyed out screen. Tried fixing permissions... no luck.
Edit: I found reference to rotating the screen when this happens, which then allows a selection. Fixed my issue.
Hi All, I'd had my Xoom since release but a while ago it fell by the wayside, I recently picked it up again an spent this evening fiddling with it.
I manage to install Omni 4.4.4 and have the ElementalX 2.1 kernel so I can overclock it.
All seems fine except for a few minor things that are bugging me. On the home screen there is a white bar at the top, if I press the on the right of this bar it says 'App isn't installed' If I click the left side of it it brings up a google search bar. Any idea why it says App isn't installed on the right?
As well as that on the search bar I used to be able to press the microphone and speak what I wanted to search. This no long happens it doesn't do anything when I click the microphone.
Is there a way to delete the apps it won;t let you delete in the normal way. I'm a bit OCD about icon and I have Icons for 'Phone' and 'Messages' That is obviously not required on my tablet and weren't there with the OEM software.
Any other hints of tips for a noob?

The "app not installed" go to the play store and download "Google search"
Via normal app settings you can not uninstall system apps. So the normal way wouldn't work for phone and messages. However that Rom comes pre rooted so using a root enabled file explorer you can navigate to /system/app or /system/priv-app (depending on the application) and simple delete the app then reboot the tablet for the changes to take effect.
Or If you'd like you can use an app called titanium restore which has the ability to remove/uninstall ANY application

Hi everyone, ever since the update, my apps stop running in the background when I close the app. Example: I don't get Whatsapp notifications anymore unless I open the app and keep it open. If I close all open apps, I will no longer receive any of the notifications for any of them.
I went into the battery settings disabled battery saver mode but that didn't do anything.
I would appreciate any help you could provide.

It's apparently one of the issues with the latest OTA update, where closing all running apps will terminate the background processes associated with the apps closed. Prior to the update and the Close All button being added to the recent apps list, I don't think it had this problem (I don't use Whatsapp, but my Skype and Discord notifications still come through even if I don't have them on my recent apps list).
This is a little frustrating. Noticed that I wasn't getting any notifications from tasker, pushover, textra, hangouts, inbox and etc.
Also noticed that pushover will not update unless it is off of wifi. All my other devices receive notifications on this wifi. IE nothing blocked.
I have had to open all the programs that I want to receive notifications from, open. Not the best work around.

I noticed that on occasion there will be small text under the new button that says "long press to set up apps that could run in the background" I do it but it doesn't seem to do anything, maybe free up some of the RAM but that's about it. I'm wondering if there is a bug and if it's supposed to show something.
Has anyone else tried the long press?
As of now all I do is keep a folder on the desktop labeled background apps. It helps big time when I accidentally tap the close all button. But my solution as of now is to keep things open that don't seem to work in the background. I've been experimenting with what works and it seems like in some recent app updates they begin to work without being open. I know for sure that facebook and now facebook messenger work without being open, as well as some google services. I have a memory clearer app that I use when I'm not using my phone so it clears whatever it can without killing the apps. But that's what I have as of now, trial and error to figure out what I need to leave open and what I can close. And I strongly recommend the folder, I have had many times where I accidentally close everything and forget what I had to leave open.
It's a bummer though, I just bought the phone and then this update came out. Kinda kills the excitement of getting a new awesome phone if I have to deal with this frustration :/ Other than that, it's definately a nice step up from a Samsung S4.

Misbehave as in not show anything after a long press?
Yes, nothing happens anytime I try it. After reboot, the first time I pull up the running apps is when I get the prompt. After the first long press after a reboot, the prompt is gone. If I have an app open and then I do the long press, I am taken back to the desktop, but no matter what I try, nothing seems to happen after the long press other than being taken back to the desktop if I had an app open.
I have the same issue, I thought it was a Internet connection issue (see my thread) but after digging deeper realised my background apps werent running after closing them and the long press option does nothing.
I have the same problem. Any solution?

I've just installed the new update and it looks like the issues I had with background apps closing when clearing all apps has been fixed. I've got no apps running in the foreground yet can see Whatsapp, Fitbit, etc still running and I'm receiving notifications for them.
Hi everyone.
My wife has an S8 and recently she has noticed that she hasn't been receiving notification on Facebook messenger.
Me thinking it was an easy problem to solve went into the phone setting clicked on notifications and found that the notifications for the app were all on how they should be.
Then I went into the app settings and checked there and everything was right.
Then I restarted the phone and it still wouldn't work.
Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still no success
I even got my phone out an S7E and checked how the settings should look on mine and hers matched my settings.
All her other apps are working except this one.
Am I missing something here, because it doesn't make any sense why it's not working. I performed a stock flash on the device about a month ago to 3 software, so she could have wifi calling but I don't see how this could of affected this one app and none of the others.
If anyone has any suggestions here I am all ears because I am out of ideas.
Make sure that it's not being forced close by the S8's onboard memory manager... sometimes it shuts down apps and you won't get notifications. Double check in the battery settings (you can get there from settings or the swipe panel) to see if the Messenger app itself is active.

Hi people, I seem to have solved the problem.
I followed the suggestion and went to the battery setting. In those setting there was an option for unmonitored and monitored apps. When checking the list of apps that were in these setting everything was right, including the messenger app in unmonitered app section. I removed it from that list and didn't bother adding it back.
Tested.........and it worked....I even got other people to message her in different situtations and it worked and still works.....not added it back in to the list yet, as long as it keeps working I prob won't
