Hello everybody!
I just joined the forum but I was following it for quite a while.
I have a problem with my internet connection on my Infinity at my university campus. My school uses wifi hot spots that require login and password supplied to a form in a browser. The browser windows opens and I can authenticate with no problem, except that my internet connection is extremely slow every time. I can login to the same hotspot using my galaxy nexus phone or a laptop and have a much-much better internet speed. The weird part is that if I know that the internet load on campus is low, like really early in the morning or late at night, my internet speed will be great. It is almost as if when there is a high network load my infinity gets the lowest priority, as crazy as it sounds.
At home the internet connection on my infinity is fast.
My tablet has unlocked bootloader and is rooted. I am currently running a slimmed-down version of stock rom 4.2.1 with clemsyn's kernel. The same problem persisted when I was on a fully stock rom and when I used cm10.
I would appreciate any ideas on the matter.

I used to have problem with internet on stock rom. However, after installed cromi-x with Hund's kernel, I have a better luck and faster internet. Since you unlocked your bootloader, you may try with a different combo and see if it helps. You could try browser2ram, tweak your core mem, tcp mem, and wifi buffer which also further improve your internet speed . Good luck.
Personally I wouldn't use clemsyn's kernel on 4.2.1. It's a 4.1.1 kernel. Switch to that's or Hund's and see if that eliminates the issue first.

[Q] Wifi signal?
Does anyone get a weak wifi signal with their Nexus S? Whenever I connect to my at home wifi I never get full bars and something I'll just randomly lose signal. Also it seems to go pretty slow. I used to have the Mytouch4G and it work flawlessly with the wifi. Anyone else having this problem?

OMG yesss I do.
Just about a room away I loose signal, almost completely. = 0
IDK, but I see more flaws every day that passes
Mine's been working fine over Wi-Fi. I'm pretty glad it does too, because my only data option with it is Wi-Fi..

Wifi has been working great for me. It reconnects automatically and doesn't drop. The signal seems on par with my nexus one.
Speed wise, is it on par with the 3G network?
[Q] Wifi does not work anymore after rooting :(
So, I unlocked my Android 2.3.1 and rooted it ... But if I click on wifi so I could connect to my modem it says Error and wont even search or anything. I tried reseting too but still no luck .. What is the problem and how to fix this ??
That's odd, I didn't have any issues with wifi as I connected to Android Market to downloaded ROM Manager during my rooting process earlier. Have you tried flashing a custom ROM on your device to see if it'll fix it?
No I didnt, would that work? .. A friend told me to install a new "kernel" but I dont want to overwhelm my android with custom made kernels .
your problem is you used one of the quick methods of rooting your phone, which used a kernel that wasn't from the exact rom you have.
if your on stock 2.3.1, you will need the stock 2.3.1 boot.img, and then you'll need to root it manually the long way via adb command line. search the nexus s development section for how-to's. they are all there.
i too had this problem, had to install MoDaCo ROM to fix it, but i dont regret rooting, i now have custom rom and over clocked cpu on the nexus s
you have two options, either to flash NANDROID backup to un-root and return to stock or install a custom ROM, i choose MoDaCo bcoz of its UI, it looks and feels just like the stock one.

Yes, that's the point of MoDaCo roms, to make minimal changes to the look and feel of the phone, but to improve performance with his custom optimizations.
[Q] Nexus S wifi issue. Unable to access wifi from my nexus s.
Hi Guys,
I was able to connect to my wifi network for a day. I am using windows 7 machine as hotspot with connectify. From second day I am unable to connect to any wifi network. I did factory reset my nexus s but no results . Can some one help me how to solve this issue?
Observations:
*when i use static ip, It shows connected but the bars are in white instead of green color and i am unable to browse.
*When i use dynamic ip I am unable to connect to wifi. It shows obtaining Ip and never connects.
*In connectify when I was able to connect to wifi the device is shown with an android device name. but now the device is shown as unknown.
Sorry for my bad english, I m not a native english speaker.
[Q] Nexus S Wifi Settings - force close
Hi all,
Just got a new Nexus S - all was well at home. Took it to work today and noticed something very odd. It was fine until entering the wifi settings menu - at which point it dramatically slowed down. I got two 'not responding, close or wait' messages before being able to join the network.... all other settings are fine - just the wifi area.
Weird - wondering what could cause this... too many wifi networks broadcasting (am in middle of London)...?
Anyone seen anything similar?

Too many WiFi around you shouldn't cause that.
Try rebooting and setting again if you haven't already.
Hmmm - rebooted and still have the same issue. At home, or even a block away from the office it all works fine. But in the office itself, although it connects and uses the wifi fine, the settings page is VERY slow to load and gives me the wait/force close message.
Out of interest - I also have 'wifi analyser' from the marketplace. This too is very slow and unresponsive when in the office.
So - it is definately something to do with the wifi here.... but have not got a clue what. Before I join the wifi, or when I am physically somewhere else it all works fine.
Wifi is WPA-TKIP, the key is a very long jumble of letters but surely that is not an issue.
Strange eh!!!

[Q] Possible WiFi problem?
Hi there, just bought a Nexus S, also used to have Nexus One.
The thing is for some wireless networks even though I enter the password correctly, it says connected and still there is no connection at all. (I mean browser tries to connect but at the end it says page could not be found) I even tried with an ad-hoc network that I created with my laptop but still the problem exists.
At home I'm able to my network without a problem. The type of network I'm trying to connect is: WPA2 Personal with AES. Is there any known issue about AES at Android system? Afaik there is no way to change the encryption used right?
this might actually not be a nexus S issue.
some modems/switches/routers are configured to block certain devices/applications/package's
we have a modem and router with both wifi.
but my psp/nDS cant connect to the modem, but can connect with the router

i have a similar problem. My Nexus S connects to my router only within a few hours after a router reset. Then it stucks at "obtaining ip" and never connected before I do another router reset.
My home wifi is WPA2 type, and for WEP type wifi my NS never got connected.
I'm running infused 1.5. Whenever i go to new places that have wifi ( password already been saved), my phone won't connect to it, worse thing, when I scan, it won't see the wifi ssid...it keeps showing the previous ssids that it found earlier. After I turn off wifi and turn it back on, then it acts normal again (connects automatically to that wifi). It acts weird again when I go to another place.

I have the same problem, but I'm stock other than root, so I don't think it's the rom.
I recently added access points to extend the range of the two wifi networks I connect to most often. It almost seemed like it wanted to treat the new access points as new SSID's, which I have always assumed was part of the problem. I just haven't had much time to work on it.
I'm using stock Tom and this has been going on since day one.

Any resolutions here? I just got an infuse 2 days ago and I'm having this problem.
Is this an issue with every infuse or should I exchange it? additionally, if its a problem with all of them, are there any custom roms out there that address this issue?
This is a killer for me, and I'm constantly moving around in an office without consistant wifi so I have to turn wifi off and on like 20 times a day to make sure I just use wifi for data. Very annoying.

Same issue here. Seems to only do this at home with a Netgear N600
You guys need to provide more details. Exact roms and your wireless settings and what security the network is on.

No fixes that I have found so far, unless there are some broadcom DHD commits in pershoot's Galaxy Tab 10.1 kernel I can kang. (The problem seems to have gone away with the latest of is kernels for the 10.1.)
We have the same Broadcom wifi chipset as the Tab 10.1 and many other phones - this is a common issue across all devices with that wifi chipset. Some sort of sleep/power management bug in the kernel driver. Broadcom sucks.
I have this same issue with my Infuse, Infused ROM 1.5.3, kernel 2.6.32.9.
Typically I connect to 2 AP's, one is WPA2 personal, and the other is WPA Enterprise, PEAP, MSCHAPv2
I usually need to turn wifi off and back on in order to connect to my saved profiles.
95% certain rom/kernel doesn't matter - hell, device doesn't even matter. If you've got a Broadcom BCM4330 wifi chipset, it'll happen.
It's the rom! I had the same problem on stock Froyo and now I'm on gtg465x's GB 2.3.3 infused V2.1.0 and this problem went away.
Anyone else confirm improved wifi with this rom? Especially the connecting/disconnecting loop?
Note that my last post on this subject was when Gingerbread had only been out for a few days:
It seems that the issue is fixed in the Rogers Gingerbread kernels. I'm actually surprised, since the Honeycomb kernel for the Tab 10.1 is in theory newer but it has the problem. However, even that kernel stopped having problems after the maintainer made a bunch of power management tweaks.
So basically any Gingerbread kernel should be OK.
That means I will have no hdmi and 15fps video capture though, right?
Hi, recently i`m experiencing technical problem with my Asus.
I think since I installed PRIME1.7.
each time that I turn off the screen for more than a minute, the WIFI card doesnt stop turning off and on. Then I must reboot the tablet to be able to connect WIFI.
can anyone help on this plz. Now I`m running on PRIME 1.9 no_3g and still have the same issue.
I have the exact same issue. If I were to tap the power botton to sleep and leave it for a while then the Wi-Fi keeps switching from On and Off without staying on.
Only a hard reboot seems to bring the Wi-Fi back on.
I am on the latest Asus Firmware and Wi-Fi version 5.2.58
I had this same problem, it seems to be an issue with the latest google maps update. Go into settings>applications>Manage applications then find maps and uninstall the updates. It worked for me, might work for you guys.
I uninstalled updates for maps and it worked for me.
but to be fully honest, I also uninstalled a couple of applications that use the wifi connection ( freewifi, for access points in France)
Same problem here on a pretty-much daily basis. Sometimes multiple times per day. Just found the following thread on another site, which suggests it to be a DHCP lease problem:
http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-help/4774-wifi-turning-off.html
it might be a ROM problem. I've tried prime, revolver and arhd and with prime and revolver I would get a lot of disconnects in a mesh 802.1x network, but arhd is much more stable (still disconnects once or twice in a 8hour block while i'm at work, but it disconnects and reconnects by itself pretty quick).
I'm noticing strange WiFi issues, in that my data speeds keep slowing down to a standstill for no reason.
In fact, when I first booted the device, and started to install my apps, I wondered why there were downloading so slowly, so I installed "SpeedTest" and sure enough my data speeds were like 1.5mbps. To test that my network hadn't just suddenly gone crazy, I ran the test from my laptop and that confirmed normal speeds.
To remedy this, I changed my advanced wifi settings to just use the 2.4 ghz signal, then changed my router settings (a BT Home Hub 3) from smart wireless (auto changes channel to the "best" channel to just remain on that already pre determined best channel.
I then immediately saw an improvement, as it was downloading now at about 27mbps... and so I thought I'd cracked it.
Apparently not.... It regularly goes back to downloading really slowly, and sometimes, messing with all those settings again doesn't do anything to improve the speeds.
Anyone else experiencing this, or has any insights as to what is going on? could it be a wifi driver issue, which may be rectified in later updates or baseband versions?
Here are some pics to give you an idea... all from the same network
Back to awesome after changing router security settings... I wonder how long it will last this time?

Exactly the same for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514501
I'm being sent a replacement but I can't say I'm convinced that one will be any different.
This issue occurred on my BT home hub, a tp-link access point, and the access points where I work.
hi all,
Something has been bothering me for a while with my p6800, when connected to wifi my connection intermittently slows down to a crawl or even times out, taking forever to load a webpage. No problems on 3g though... My wifi connection is not disconnecting or anything, full bars all the way.
Anybody know why and how I can fix this, as annoying is an understatement
Thanks!
Ps. using 300n router, not a congested channel. No problems with wifi on notebook or other devices. On Android 4.1.2.
Hi Arobase,
Thanks for your reply, had just about given up on this one. :good:
I'm on 4.1.2 stock md3 and using WPA2 encryption. Don't think it matters though because I've had these problems from the get go, on stock ROM when just bought and on various Wifi encryptions (random browser timeouts, no Wifi connection drop though...). Can't really see a pattern, sometimes my wifi will work flawlessly, other times it just refuses...
Was wondering wether others had a similar issue. If you've got any ideas, do please let me know. Tbanks again!
