[Request] Newbies Guide to Original 4G Xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new to Motorola devices and bootloaders. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. The entire bootloader and fastboot methods are completely unknown to me. I am asking for the advantages and disadvantages of the UXR vs LAIO methods of everything encompassed in installing a custom ROM. All I could pull out of these forums is that I have what is referred to as Stingray I think. (Original Xoom with 4G) I have never used a adb type method ever, so I am uncertain where to even begin. Any insight you could provide for me would be wonderful.
Thank you in advance for any help you may provide me and hopefully, I will be able to help some other newbie when I figure it all out.

LAIOT is pretty useful if you are not a DOS command line superstar or you don't have the time to reinvent the wheel.

Root

I have been looking for a way to root my droid pro since i got it. I am having problems on other forums.
Is there a wiki or a thread that somebody can direct me to that will show me how to downgrade to another android version and root my phone upgrade the version and keep root?
I am not asking for a one click method or anything lazy like that i will spend 3 hours typing commands into terminal on unix if that is what it takes to root my phone.
Even if the guaranteed method you point me to has a 95% chance of bricking my phone i will still try it i am determined to get this thing rooted.
Thanks for all help in advance.

Unlocking boot loader and rooting?

I got a hand me down Xoom so I've been looking into all this and searching this forum. It seems quite complicated. On my note, I just flash cwm and SU and boom. I have root. All this confuses me. Could someone help out?

Check this:

quite simply!
Thanks. For the most part that doesn't seem to bad. But it doesn't have anything for adb and fast boot.

Yep the universal root is quite straight forward. I think it's the best option for rooting your XOOM, better than using a one click app that might brick your device.
adb and fastboot are important set those up and you can root any device.
LordAIOTool or X&D Tool (this one never tested) works great!

There does not appear to be one on XDA.

Motorola Atrix HD root jellybean

So, I followed the instructions on here to gain root but stuck on the part after you login to the remote server with your phone. When you go back to the terminal on Ubuntu and do the last 2 commands, I get the error "file not found".... Any help would be nice.

Be more specific. Which thread and post specifically are you following for instructions (there are several for each phone and there may be alterations to the instructions throughout the thread) and which two commands give you the error?
Also, if you don't mind, what's your opinion on the Atrix HD? Worth the price or would you have rather gotten something else?

If I can't get any help, I guess I'll just wait for another windows version of a one click.

Make a cup of coffee and read all the stickies. Get your software version and follow the procedures for your software version after reading and understanding the procedure. It is always assumed you have a working knowledge of adb, fastboot and the search feature. If it seems too overwhelming to read and understand please dont root. The fact that you have to ask for a link leads me to believe this is above you.
