Some questions on root/unroot - HTC One S

Hi guys I have some questions on root/Unroot/S-off for HTC one s
I have had a evo3D (still do ) and dev a little to so here are my questions
1.Root
I looked at the all in one thread I saw to the Aio tool kit by hasoon200 and the standard root by torxx
my current stock setup
Htc vile not cs
Stock Ics sense 4.1
Hboot 1.40
Radio 1.08
And T-Mobil
2.Unroot
I have not seen one of these Unroot
Threads like in 3D land So how would o go about going from s-off back to s-on and have no super cid
Also I might sim unlock if I can but only if could go back
Thanks guys I hope to bring some of my development here to the one s

Any one?

Rooting is pretty straight forward, doesn't take much effort. I prefer to do it through the console and not the AIO tool, no offense to the author. You can check my signature for the tutorial for rooting. As far as unrooting, CM 10 based roms as you may know have settings to restrict root access to ADB or apps, or both. I know in SuperSU, I think you can unroot, and also in SuperUser Elite as well if I'm not mistaken.
You can go from S-Off to S-On with this turtorial, and sim unlock with this one. According to this post sim unlock is persistent even after flashing new roms and factory resets. But now that we have S-Off, I imagine there has to be a way to relock the phone.

Is there a way to relock bootloader
And back to stock from ruu or firmware zip

Yeah, you can relock the bootloader with a fastboot command. An RUU will take you back to stock.

Today, I Unlocked the Bootloader with the Unlock from HTC, but it still says S-ON.
Will I still be able to root and flash rooms with the TUTs posted in the Development Section?
Or will there be an Alternate method.
If it still says s-on perhaps you should re try the HTC unlocking process until it says s-off
Swyped from HTC Desire S using XDA Premium
Why would you use the htc method. It saves your serial number and it voids your warranty. If you use revolutions you can always go back to s on and tmo will never know the difference.

From the all the gossip flying around the word is you may be able to get CWM installed but no custom roms yet, seems HTC provided an Unlock for developers and will provide S-off at later date.
Just go here http://revolutionary.io/
and follow the instructions.
Yeah if you've unlocked using HTC unlock bootloader then you can't get S-OFF and flash custom roms. You can achieve root and flash a modified version of the stock rom.
This link will help explain it better:
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-unlocked-htcs-bootloader-unlocking-method
I feel that since you have already unlocked with HTC you've officially voided your warranty. It is probably best to just to revolutionary.io and unlock using the revolutionary process that way you can get S-OFF and start flashing custom roms. It would have probably been better to use revolutionary in the first place that way you could have S-ONed your phone if you ever needed to use the warranty later but it won't make much of a difference now.
Well, thanks guys, but I can lock it back on the HTC way, I wasnt aware that it voided warranty.
It's okay.
It gives me the Option to lock the bootloader, but I'm unaware that it'd bring the warranty back.
But Should I still just use revo to get S-OFF?
Yes, you should just use the revolutionary method. Much less time consuming. Give them your serial, they give you a code, they send Caroline in, and then you're good.
I'm not sure if the Sensation is any different, but I unlocked a Evo3d the other day using the HTC method.
The h-boot will not say s-off, but it will say *** unlocked ***.
CWM can be flashed.
Custom roms can be flashed, loaded Synergy nightly on there.
The only reason the Evo3d had to go that route was because the latest OTA was accepted before I had a chance to get revo on there. Anyhow, it was actually pretty pain free and I can't imagine the Sensation being any different.
I'd imagine you just use the fastboot flash command to flash CWM but, as already said, you should've just used Revolutionary

[Q] I Unlocked Bootloader Using Official HTC Tool - Now What?

Ok so I unlocked with the Official HTC Bootloader unlock tool. I have been trying to find the answer to my question of what else needs to be done before I can Rom the thing. I have been reading and everyone just seems to be arguing whether or not you need S-OFF in order to put a rom on the phone.
So please... Someone give me a straight answer. What else Do i need to do before I can load a custom rom on the phone. I went through tall of the official unlock stuff and its unlocked. Now what?!?!
First you need CWM. Then just flash the zip of your ROM
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Thanks man for the response. Thats what i thought needed to happen but wasnt sure. Off to rom I go!
Still having trouble
Well i went to the dev section and tried to follow the steps to installing CWM and I'm getting an error. Im thinking I might need to do the HBOOT steps too. Im going to try that next. I just dont want to break my 3 day old phone.... ya know.
You can't install CWM or any other ROM if you enabled s-off with the HTC dev tool. You can only do it if you use revolutionary.

With the Sensation this is no reason not to use revolutionary and get true S-OFF.
But if you want to continue down the HTC Unlocked path, you may want to visit the Evo 3G forum. There are some excellent threads and discussion on how to get into ClockworkMod using the HBOOT method. For some of the folks over in Evo 3G land, the latest HBOOT that was released for their HTC Unlock OTA has rendered Revolutionary useless because it disabled the root exploit, so they have no choice.
But if I were you, go with Revolutionary for permanent S-OFF/Nand unlock.

[Q] Revolutionary S-OFF vs HTC official unlock

Hi,
I've read several articles about the subject, but not sure I really understood the difference, since most of comments are vague like "S-OFF provides more flexibility", "Revolutionary installs custom recovery", "S-OFF is S-OFF" etc...
I have European Sensation with HBOOT 1.18.0, no operator SIM locking. What I did so far was applying the official unlock, and it was successful - now it's "Unlocked" but "S-ON". Then, also flashed the latest CWR 5.0.2.0 via fastboot and it also loads well.
Basically what I want to do now is wiping everything and trying several custom ROMs (CoreDroid, CM etc). Don't think I need anything deeper like custom bootloaders, unofficial Radio updates etc - but not sure which parts are residing in NAND...
So the question is whether S-OFF is needed for these purposes, or the official unlock is sufficient? If I do, could you please clarify what exactly won't work in S-ON mode?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Noob here - Same question.
Hello ptichik,
I've done the same as you and was wondering what the next step is as well. I just want superuser access. I was Googling for advice and came across your post. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, now htc knows you are using their unlock method, so now officially your warranty is gone......
Should have used the unofficial method where you could revert from to s-on having no warranty issues.......

Not 100% correct, a hardware fault isn't caused by you unlocking the bootloader so you'd be covered in that instance
What's next?
So now that i've unlocked the bootloade the official way. What should I do to get root?

You should start by learning how to use the search facilities of this forum to find your answer.
Flash a custom recovery using fastboot.
Using the custom recovery, install the latest version of SU.
Check out the stickies in the development section. Also, be prepared for a lot of attitude if u post a question thats already been answered, its easier to sort thru search results than flame.
All guides say to start with Revolution. Then install Clocwork Recovery Mod to back up the device. Then install the su binaries. Since I unlocked officially can I skip the Revolution part?

Yes, I'd say so
The difference with the official way is that you only unlock the bootloader. You don't get S-OFF so you can't make changes 'on the fly' with Android running, you'd need to do changes with the phone in HBOOT/fastboot mode.
Flashing custom ROMs works with either
Hello,
how did you unlock officially? I only found the revolutionary method. Thank you.

[Q] are these the current tools to root/unlock?

Got lucky ended up with a 1.85 firmware device from att refurbished yesterday. I just want to double check that I'm not missing anything.
So from stock I need to use the one click root below first, then after this use the supercid bl unlock method and I'm good? Then I'll be able to get twrp recovery on there and start flashing?
One click root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167
Supercid unlock bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284
Is there any files or numbers I need to back up before doing anything?
Anything I need to avoid doing that would cause me to lose root permanently?
Use the manual root method, seems to work better for most, myself included.
Ya what he said. I tried to root my phone 4x using that method it did not work. Finally used another method I found on the web. Try this one. Www.onexroot.com. there you will find the tutorial of how to. Not the one click root method. But the other. Also tells u how to unlock bootloader. I had to open 2 windows for this. I also went to xda and take a look at this one " there both the same except you got the step by step video tutorial .

U have to do this step above in order to unlock your bootloader ...that's just the way at&t is...if you have telus or rogers then just unlock bootloadee via HTC dev. Do this and you will be good. Oh and a peace of advice don't do what I almost Did...DON'T FLASH AN INTERNATIONAL ROM!!!. just stay in the "At&t, rogers one xl, talar" or whatever its calld. You'll have a $700 paperweight

Thanks everyone, I'll use the suggested manual root, already saw some bad stories of people flashing international roms. I've got the att forum bookmarked so I won't accidentally flash an international rom.
I saw people talking about safely upgrading to 2.20 firmware to keep root, is there any reason to go to 2.20 if I plan on flashing cm10 or AOKP or is that just if I want the latest stock ROM with root?

Don't unless you like flashing a boot IMG every time before a Rom via fast boot or terminal emulator

Telus One X - Unlock/Root/SCID/S-Off if you took JB OTA

If you were a bit silly like me, perhaps you flashed the JB OTA on your Telus HOX before you rooted, unlocked, got SuperCID and S-Off. I didn't have much luck searching the forum for exact steps on how to get that stuff after taking the OTA. All the info is here, but I was confused what applied to my Telus phone and what would work even after the JB OTA. So I figured I'd detail my steps here in case someone else wants a detailed guide. Obviously the credit for everything below goes to the original authors of the techniques. I'm just linking stuff.
Unlock
1.Register at HTCDev and follow the directions to unlock your bootloader. Its pretty straightforward. You don't need to download the whole huge 300+ Android SDK. You can just get the adb-fastboot package from this thread.
Flash Recovery
I flashed TWRP with one-click via this AIO toolkit. There is probably tons of other ways to do it.
Root
Not sure its possible to root the stock JB unless you install a different ROM. So I did a system reset in TWRP and the flashed the Viper XL ROM. Its pre-rooted.
SuperCID
Its quite easy - just follow this guide exactly.
S-Off
Follow this guide and you shouldn't have a problem.
Once you have all that, you can downgrade your touch firmware. The reason to do this is if you want to install AOSP-based ROMs like CyanogenMod or AOKP. I haven't done that yet because I'm pretty happy with ViperXL. If you want to stick with Sense-based ROMs it isn't necessary to downgrade.
As a final note, once you've got ViperXL and S-Off I'd highly recommend trying the ElementalX Kernel.

You can. I was able to root my stock JB (had to install SuperSU manually) after installing the custom recovery through fastboot.

if i have the unlock token i can root 3.18 AT T ota?
Yup, if you managed to unlock the bootloader then you're clear to go all the way to s-off (and you should).
I have a htc one S , but this SuperCID doesn't work on my device.
Does it work after the JB OTA with the One X ?
I'm unable to use my Phone without using custom ROMs, 'cause I can't flash any RUU (CID is T-MOB101).
(I had battery problems after JB OTA-Update)
This isn't the One S forum. I'd advise asking in the appropriate forum.
Ok i can bearly find any info i'm sorry if im in the wrong place but the one x plus from [email protected] just got an ota is it still posible to root after this update? I tryed hysoon200's tool kit but the htc dev website claims my unlock key is too short i coppied it perfectly several times infact the last time i almost bricked it the screen was black for a half hour and after 2-5 mins holding the power button it booted back up can someone please point my retarted a$$ to the rite direction?
Hey, the One X+ is a totally different phone so I can' t really say what's the best direction. You are best off posting in the One X+ forum.

If I do this, will I lose my SIM unlock? I am using an unlocked Telus One X with Fido. Thanks.
You can s-off. You just need to change yiur cid to 11111111 first. Aosp roms are all in the original android development section of this forum.
I believe carrier unlock is done at the bootloader layer so it should not affect your sim unlock

Just a quick question, I did all the steps including downgrading the touch firmware (thanks for the help!), but I just have one more question. I was looking at CM 10.1 ROM and it said and update to RUU 3.18 is required. How can I check my RUU? Do I need to update? Thanks for any help.

3.17 is fine. If that cm10.1 doesn't boot, ruu again, flash recovery, downgrade touchscreen and flash it again.
