Texts/SMS from phone to tablet and back - Android Apps and Games

Hi guys,
I have been searching for the best app to get all texts/SMS from my phone to my tablet (without bluetooth or 3G), so I can read and answer them there, while my phone is charging for example.
So, I came across a lot of apps like TabletTalk, MySMS, MightyText, TextPlus, TexTab, ... etc. The problem with these apps is, they are not the best thing when it comes to privacy or in other words: They use an online account or a third's party web space for syncronising your messages, pictures, contacts, ..., which is totally not acceptable in my oppinion.
Now, I want to ask you XDA users, if you know of an app, that does the syncronising of the SMS/MMS only locally per Wi-Fi?
Thank you a lot in advance.
Greetings,
sYCO

TabletTalk is secure and only connects via WiFi or Bluetooth (your choice). It sends nothing to any third party webspace, so I think you might be wrong about that one. It is actually very ideal for the scenario you propose, and I would be hesitant to offer any alternatives, as it clearly fits the bill.
What gave you the impression it worked over the internet? I don't think any such functionality even exists in the app.

Sorry, sorry, I take TabletTalk out of that list. I misread the "direct link" information.
The problem with TabletTalk is, that it has an awful lot of bad reviews regarding the sync, saying it often does not work.
I already had an app (MightyText), which lost some texts, even new incoming ones did not appear on my phone then and friends were wondering, why I do not reply. So, that is not interesting to me.

Any other suggestions/ideas?
Thank you.

TrueCaller or Net Caller ID? Suggestions?

I am looking for a caller ID that works and these are the two common ones I found. Do you use one and would you recommend it? (I need one that works in the US.)
TrueCaller is a paid app but it is not that bad, only $7.
NetCallerId is free but it seems to be on beta testing.
I would love to hear people's input on it. (If there's an old thread about this, I prefer that you don't refer me to that one as I am looking for current users' input.) Thanks.

Tried netcallerid...it works especially for home #'s but it overlays it's page of information on top of the answer page so you dont see the picture of who is calling. Was annoying enough I didn't install it on most recent rom reinstall.
Can tell You that far that Truecaller works w/o neg effect on performance and does not freeze the phone. Also does not consume too much RAM and stays nicely in the background.
When incoming call starts, it shows in the upper third of the screen only in case the phone# is not stored in contacts. In case of known/stored contact it does not show up at all, which means: this app is as unobtrusive as possible.
Only problem is: especially with mobile phone numbers-incoming calls most of them are not detected (here in Austria mostly recognizes only incoming numbers from A1-provider, some of T-mobile and the rest: none).
Might be due to the fact that databenches from some mobile providers cannot be accessed by Truecaller, but methinks that this is caused not by the app but by some protection or inaccessibility or non-databench-conformity of the various small and smallest providers here in Austria.
But since Truecaller does not interfere the slightest with overall performance and usability of my HD2 I leave it and once in a while get the info of the incoming caller.

Now lets get back to the topic I have used it for a short time I wasn't really impressed of it since it couldn't detect mobile numbers only home numbers. Not very useful.
Don't know how that is in the usa. Second thing that I also runs in the background. In my opnion it is not worth the money.

Is there software like LowCaller (Voip>Landline) available for Android?

Hi all!
I'm virtually 100% an Android convert, putting it on my HD2 a week ago and barely looking back!
One of the few things I do need Windows Mobile for, though, is using a small application called LowCaller (lowcaller.com). This allows me to call contacts via my Voipcheap account but rather than going via the internet connection (WiFi, 3g) it calls a 020 (London) number and then directs me to the person I'm calling.
This means I get perfect quality international calls no matter where I am and I only use my inclusive contract minutes.
I've tried to contact LowCaller via their website but I can't get through to them (the damn verification code is always apparently wrong!) so can't find out if they have an Android version in the pipeline. They appear to support WM, iPhone, Blackberry and Symbian so an Android version would be very logical on their part!
Any alternatives?
Thanks!
I tried SipDroid with my SIP.
Can't hear anything on my end, maybe you have better results?
You can try Nimbuzz or Fring, and then add your VoipIP provider
Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions but these apps/messengers are solely for calling via Voip directly to another party, as opposed to calling a local number which then, via my Voip account, directs to another party (meaning that I can do it from anywhere without the need for an internet connection, and with perfect results - no lag, cut outs, etc.)
LowCaller is fantastic because I've driven around towns and countryside in England while talking via bluetooth to my friend in Canada on her mobile - the quality was practically like that of any normal call!
It works like this,
I select 'Call via LowCaller' from my phonebook > My phone calls an 020 London number owned by LowCaller > The call gets routed to the number of the person I'm calling and I lose my inclusive minutes just like any normal call.
I think rebtel might do what you need
I use jajah (jajah.com) . It works like you described. Sort of. They give you a local nr for all your foreign contacts. So there is no app but you just dial the unique local nr and your friend in timbuktu answers the phone.

LowCaller
Come on guys!!
The guys is asking you about LowCaller in Android, and you recommend jahjah and Rebtel!!!!
JahJah and rebtel make a newnumber for each contact!! This is pain. You dont want to make a new number for each contact!!
We dont want to use 3g or wifi! we want to use a landline number.
So please, if you know anything exactly similar to lowcaller, please answer. Otherwise, DO NOT give bad recommendations!!
Afaik, rebtel does exactly what he asked for. I don't think you need to set up different no.s for different contacts, it just routes all international calls through a local no.

OK, I won't.
Bump!
Still no Android support from LowCaller. Any developments here guys?
Remember I'm after a LowCaller-type setup, i.e. I'm using my contract minutes to call a national number that will connect me to another number via my Voip account.
So stuff that simply makes calls via WiFi/3g isn't what I'm after (but thanks for the suggestions)
Peace

Hi keesvl55 - I've installed CcApp but can't work out how to (or if I'm able to) set it up to work with VoipCheap. I seem to be only able to add calling cards, which aren't what I'm using.
Looks like we're getting there anyhow!
I wonder if LowCaller will ever release a Droid version or update any of their current versions? It seems they never updated their WM client to work with 6.5.X, hence why I've always stuck with regular ol' 6.5, so maybe all hope is lost for them to come out with something themselves?
I guess another way would be to save the numbers LowCaller assigns my international contacts with in WM. I'm unsure, however, just how long these stay valid for before another gets assigned.
BUMP!
2,000 views so I can't be the only one after a LowCaller port / clone for Android!
I've noticed LowCaller's contact form on their website is working again now:
http://lowcaller.com/en/contact.php
Go there and request they release an Android version to the marketplace.
If you type "LowCaller" into Google now the first suggestion is "lowcaller android" or "lowcaller for android" - there's obviously a big demand so let's get harassing their developers!
Lord knows I might even click an ad or two should the need arise!

Christ! I think you may be right. I'll be trying it out tomorrow. Great spot !
Just a follow up to any one of the trillions Googling and finding this thread - as suggested above Betamax Dialer (now found on the market) looks like the way to go. The only difference I see between this and LowCaller is that with this you have to specify your Voip retailer's (e.g. voipcheap) local access number, so you only use that one number as opposed to a different landline number for each of your contacts in LowCaller.
I've bought Betamax Dialer Pro to show my support for a developer actually creating a Betamax local-calling client though I'm not sure exactly how the "call-2-call" or whatever it's called feature works. Guess I'll have a play around and see!
Under £1 on the market for Pro if anyone wants to try.
Thanks again 90180360.

The problem I have is that it doesn't integrate in the phone's dialer.
Also, if you want to choose a contact, it has to populate the contact list each and every time.
I still prefer to just save those contacts I want to call by VOIP as ACCESSNUMBER Pause PHONENUMBER in my phone book.
Works perfectly, no additional software needed.

Any application that can read SMS' out loud (possibly through a bluetooth device?)??

I wanted an application that could do this but all I could find was the one from blueAnt which only works with their specific bluetooth device...
You could use Tasker and use this profile - price looks high but it's VERY powerful once you know what you're doing.
Comes with a trial mode for around seven days.
+1 for Tasker. Brilliant app.
I have my 'in car' profile set to read texts - on text receipt it pauses the music player, then reads the senders contact name, and then the body of the text. Awesome.
i was planning on getting the blueant Q1 (just found it for $25). are you saying it won't work with handcent in reading a txt message?
edit: forget it...answered my own question by going to their site. "Hear text messages read aloud on your Q1 when connected to an Android device with our Android application."
What about the vlingo application. It has an email and sms reader that reads the message out loud when activated, but I haven't managed to get it to read the message through the Bluetooth headset

Unacceptable losses of SMS

Wondering whether I am the only one with this issue
I SMS a lot and like keeping the SMS on my device. I had recently an extremely unpleasant surprise: my total list of conversations was back to... ONE conversation with my last SMS and... That's it!!! Thousands of SMS gone
I happen to save everything with mIQ and hopefully it's not lost. However I had the experience already twice in the past 2 weeks so I am wondering:
Is this a feature from Android? Big SMS file --> autoarchive? If then how do I disable it or how do I recover my SMS?
Is it a bug? In which case this is extremely severe and not serious for such an expensive device or for an OS that is expected to be a safe one
Is it from Samsung implementation? Or Android itself?
Please share your experience, I'd like to know if I am the only one and if there is any solution (My "old" Touch Pro 2 with WM 6.5 never lost a single SMS although having more than 30,000 SMS in the box)

you really shouldnt keep that many sms around anyhow with android, its likely to cause some issues but did you check the settings on the sms app? mine has settings to delete threads after a certain number and is set to 200 by default.
I use a program called Backup to Gmail. Works excellent.
It let's me delete sms'es on the phone while my Gmail account keeps them all even if I delete them on the phone.
It can also restore sms'es.MMS restore is not supported yet but backup works good.

why would you even want that many, its not like you are going to read through 20k sms
It's funny like the answers are more about having less SMS or why wanting that many rather than why the SMS client or the OS Re broken...
Hey man why do u need a car, just take your bicycle!

give handcent a try and use their backup service, ive never had a problem with the stock sms app, currently theres around 300txts for 20 contacts, and 50 or so for the rest.
No problem here as I don't keep a lots of sms. But had a problem with new sms going into the wrong contact profile. So, have to be extra careful not to reply to the wrong person.

Deleting would help more than the purchase of an iPad, as that uses the 3g chip to get a data connection, while both the texting and voice service are ignored.
That said... I never got this issue, but my brother has a relatively similar one: long messages tend to be split, mixed and (why not, since we are at it) partly deleted. That is on Eclair using an Xperia X10 mini pro.
Never had this kind of issue when i was at my peak of sms usage: store on the MMC, and there you go, thousands of sms on a puny Nokia 3650.

Sounds great, but I think setting this up might be a tad harsh for general use (firewalls etc). I would suggest building an intermediary platform (web service) to communicate to. That way you can have a very easy setup. For instance, you can use the Google login service to identify yourself from the phone and the notification program and that's it then. No IP's or port numbers as most users don't know what that is anyway.
But for the techies, good start.
Cheers

Using bluetooth maybe ? PC as a handset (would have to be paired before)
I understand then distance range would come as a limit for many use cases, but could still be enjoyable instead of standing up to pick up the phone !
