Recommend a good backup app? (non root) - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love titanium backup(on my rooted samsung epic) but while im STILL waiting to unlock my TF300T bootloader i want to do a factory restore but i dont want to lose my apps but more importantly the credentials with it (xm logins, dvr app logins, etc).
I don't think app backup restore can do this is there any other option?
Thanks

I'm curious to hear the answer as well. I don't have high hopes though since my Angry Birds Backup doesn't even work to restore my angry birds saves from my phone. (Able to save and restore data using this app on the stock Rezound)

There's a new app called Carbon - App Sync and Backup from Clockworkmod
(Yep, same dev..Koush...makes CM) on the Play Store. It doesn't require root and it's free.
I haven't used it but looks like without root you can back up and sync to your PC or SD card.

I emailed the author/creator. Cant even get my pc OR mac to recognize the transformer even with drivers(this was xp)
Maybe I will have better luck with win 7.
edit: i should reiterate. My xp box SEES the device, and i can browse it like a hard drive in windows but carbon the app itself keeps telling me plug the usb cable in even though it already is.

Just a shot in the dark but have you installed the adb drivers and turned on adb? I don't know for sure but I assume that carbon might need to utilize adb.

[Q] adb error using shift root and recovery

Help! When I try to root my evo shift with gui shift root and recovery all I get is an adb error message. I have installed htc sync on my laptop. I also cannot connect to sync. These problems may be related? I am running windows vista.
sounds like the drivers may not have installed... Where did you get the version of sync you installed? You're best bet is to use the one off the sdcard. I've had an occasion or two also where things got messed up, and I uninstalled it all and reinstalled. (under programs and features you'll find HTC sync and driver installer, remove both and reinstall if necessary)
I installed it off the sd card and have did the install/ uninstall at least 5 times. still no luck.
i had same error but i just did mine maually. theres a video now for manually rotting it. if you fllow the steps you will root your shift

I'm in the same boat no matter what I do it my shift won't connect to sync and when I run adb devices it kicks a blank line then right back to platform-tools I'm running Vista myself and messed with it for hours and no luck I'm mad because I have rooted my shifts already and don't know what went wrong with the drivers sync or my pc this sucks as I need to be able to adb to help test some things

You do have adb debugging on right... the only other thing I could think of.
Yes I do have debugging on.
have you tried getting sync from htc's website to be sure?
If I'm correct the old version of syn from sprints website was giving me problems loading the drivers. I used the newest version from htc website and voila I was good to go. U may want to try that. I just re rooted earlier use the gui and it worked like a charm

I have the sync from htc website. I still get error running adb try again. Ive used the same usb cord and ports with my archos pad and have no trouble transfering files.
What exactly does the error message say? And with what command?

Ive got temp root now with visionary. And have it set to reroot when i turn my phone off/on. I have wireless tether (non adhoc) which is what I was wanting to tether my archos 101. I still can't connect to sync. Wondering if its a vistas issue?

I'm having the "error running adb try again" problem as well. Unfortunately when I try to run adb from the cmd prompt its output goes to a popup cmd prompt window which disappears before I can read it. My guess however is that it's blank like yours.
I'm convinced I've done everything they way I'm supposed to. Has anyone yet gotten the htc drivers to work under vista?
I had this same issue with ADB..all I did was, while connected via usb, uncheck debugging and then recheck. Clicked root again and it worked.
Sigh, there was a adb update. Install the new version from the sdk, delete the one in shiftrr, copy the new one in, close adb with task manager, then run as you were trying to do before. That fixed it for me.
And make sure when you install the recovery, not to use the one it comes with, it doesn't support the newer roms we have on the shift now. If you want to flash current ones, use clockwork 5.0.2.0, our twrp (recommended)

check to make sure you have windows media 11 or higher on your computer. I had that issue. Running XP I had an issue but Win 7 it installed easily..
This is what I used
Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.1.0_32bit.msi
MotoHelper_2.0.49_Driver_5.0.0.exe
Windows Media 11
Also search around on google lots of people have had this issue and thats how I found my answer.. Also xoomforums.com is a good site for answers as well
OK so I installed wmp11 and it will recognize my xoom thanks for the tip. however now I cannot get ADB to work my device is there I have every sdk ever made down loaded and I have the moto USB driver mentioned installed but I can't get into a ADB to save my life.

[Q] HTC One X AT&T/Computer doesn't recognize phone

I have question.
I transferred everything to my sd card, there was a function to choose from my phone settings. Afterwards I connected my phone to my computer- which was always detected by my computer without a problem-to clean out some cache files from game folders, using total commander. While I was deleting the cache files I believe I accidentally deleted the sd card folder on my computer (which was associated with my phone.) I know this sounds kind of strange, but I do not have root access or any rights to deleting system files from my phone since my phone is locked because I have a contract with at&t. Now after resetting my phone 3 times, my computer fails to recognize my phone when I plug it in. When I plug my phone in, it charges but it is not recognized on my or any other computer for that matter. My computer states that there is an unknown device but not recognizing it as my htc. I located the unknown device on the device manager and installed all the drivers requested of me from the htc device sync manager folder and that still did not work. I have contacted htc directly and I have contacted at&t. They were not able to offer anything beyond doing another factory reset, which I have already done 3 times.
So my question, is there anything I can do? My phone works and charges it is just not recognized by my computer anymore and I cannot add music or anything. Since my warranty is up should I just unlock my phone and install the new android version? Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and then plugging the phone in

A Ubuntu or any other LINUX OS may recognize SD CARD... Give it a try!
btw when you connect it and i assume you have Windows does it even show a semi transparent icon of Removable Storage?
1.What OS are you using on the computer?
2. Do you receive any sort of error messages from the cpu?
I have heard of corrupted or missing usb INF files on computers causing this exact same issue.

2. No report errors about that. Computer says: "unknown device" and that is all. I located the unknown device on the device manager and installed all the drivers requested of me from the htc device sync manager folder and that still did not work.

Since you don't have root access I'm assuming you do t have supercid or s-off. You could run the RUU. It will completely wipe and restore your phone to an original state. See the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Scroll down and you will find a link for HTC OTAs and RUUs.
Or , as you mentioned at the end of your OP, you could just root your phone and install a custom Rom.
I hope I've helped in some way.

Connecting Nexus 5 to PC to act as hard drive ISSUES

Any one else having issues doing this?
I was only able to get it to work by going into storage > usb connections > unchecking MTP and checking Camera PTP.
However, when I Do this... it will start transferring images from PC to Phone and after a while it will just say can't copy file... I hit skip and it does the same for aLL files.
I have to literally unplug the device and then start over...
Any idea why it's not working as a hard drive and just seamless?
Thanks,
RR
I had the same problem but I have no idea why... Eventually all of my files transferred over but it took forever.. I was using windows 8.1, not sure if maybe there's a driver issue there or something

I did resolve this issue by using CF-Auto Root to uninstall all drivers, then install nexus 5 drivers AND root...
Took care of it all... works fine now!!

[Q] Rooting/getting data off phone with broken USB

Through a series of unfortunate circumstances, I think I'm screwed. My USB port was intermittently making contact because it got salt in it from slushy winter water. I had some electrical contact cleaner that evaporated quickly, so I shot it up in the USB port. Big, stupid mistake. It didn't evaporate fast enough and it wicked up under the screen and messed up about half of it, wrecked the mic on the phone (probably from dissolving the plastic), and the USB port no longer works for data, only charging. Anyway, don't do what I did. It was a $400+ bad decision.
On top of it all, TWRP somehow is no longer on the phone, so I don't have any recovery at all, and the last android upgrade took away root and I never got around to restoring that.
So, I've got a phone with no USB, no root, and no recovery at all.
I used the Migrate function of Mybackup Pro to move the data to my new phone. It worked, but it doesn't get app data unless you have root on the source device. Titanium won't run w/o root. I can't use ADB because the USB port doesn't work. I did install an FTP server on the phone, but that doesn't really help me if I can't get a nandroid backup.
Any thoughts on how I would get my app data moved over? Only a couple of them are really important, the rest just involve re-entering username/passwords for online accounts.
It looks like you can do ADB over the network using WiFi ADB from the Play store, but it needs root, which I don't currently have. Additionally, since the phone has to be booted for this to work, I can't do fastboot to install a recovery over the network.
Is there a way to re-root w/o USB? Or install a recovery? Any ideas here?
To save a long drawn out response, I'll just say - it's not possible.

If you just want to transfer the app data, why don't you install helium and take a backup and then transfer the backup to your computer via wifi file transfer?

I just installed Helium to check it out again and it didn't require me to authorize via usb connection.. It might be because I already have root access??
Removed Helium from Supersuser and it now forces me to connect to a computer.
So if the device is unrooted, it requires usb connection and if it's rooted, nothing pops up.
In that case, there's nothing the OP can do I guess.
He could however, backup the obb and data files from /Android/ folder via wifi transfer which will save him some bandwidth.. :fingers-crossed:

good point.
Yep, I already looked into helium. If you're not rooted, you need USB.
Looks like I have an old phone to take apart and try to repair now...
