Get back to stock, warranty? - HTC One S

Hi,
I decided to contact the customer service because of problems of painting, and 3G/UMTS bad signal problems, and they told me that I have to send my smartphone to their Assistance Center. I've reinstalled my stock rom, but now my bootloader has the ***Re-Locked*** flag. How could I avoid to lose warranty on my phone?
Sorry for my English

You have to:
1) S-off your device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155135&highlight=s-off
2) follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155955 to remove the "Unlock/relock" status in bootloader and come back to S-on!
That's all

There should be a discussion in general section. Use the search button. You could also see at here http://www.xda-developers.com/android/bootloader-customization-now-open-to-more-s-off-htc-devices/ but not sure!

Please do a search on writing the secure flag to 3.
I'm searching atm...
--- edit
please read here: return to s-on
and follow here: One S All-In_One_Toolkit
didn't exactly find what I was searching for.
You didn' mention 'tampered'. Already got rid of that? You need s-off for this.

Thanks to all for the great help!
Now I'm going to s-off my phone. So, the next step is to customize the bootloader. But once i've customized the bootloader, the phone will be rooted and S-off however?
EDIT:
Everything works, thankyou all.
I've s-off my phone, lock the bootloader, run my RUU and write secure flag 3.

Try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604255 >>> This will downgrade your hboot to 0.98.XXXX, read through replies they simplify the steps further.
Then follow this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvg0i8in96M >>> to S-OFF your phone via revolutionary.
It helped me S-OFF my phone. I have same problem like you days ago, i was S-ON, hboot unlocked, rooted and hboot 2.00.0002. Now I'm S-OFF and permanently rooted. Hope this helps!
If I'm not mistaken (and most likely I'm not), you can't downgrade a phone without locking the bootloader first. So you need to lock the bootloader and flash RUU - and you're not using the correct guide for it. You need to do some steps that aren't in the guide.

Correct, but that's after you change your misc version, which is in the guide. Locking the bootloader is part of the steps, so no worries there, RUU's are also there, I think there's one from his region so no problem. Take it from me, I started from S-ON, rooted (temp i think), boot unlocked and hboot 2.00.0002 and the guide is noob fail-safe, given you researched enough to know what you're doing, and you just do what it tells you. You'll do the deed right.
Sorry, I was replying to the OP, but you posted before me so it looks like I'm replying to you instead. I meant the guide he mentioned in his OP, not your guide.

I tried this, but the last step does not work with me, I can not bring the command line because cmd does not detect my phone when it is in bootloader, or maybe I'm wrong to maneuver?

P.S: the bootloader is unlock with htcdev.com

What do you mean by "region": is the region where I live, or that or the phone was for its manufacture? if this is the second time how to recognize the region because I have not bought new?

Before starting with everything, turn on USB Debugging (settings>developer options) and turn off Fast boot (settings>Power) in your phone.
You installed HTC sync in your PC right? If not, first download and install HTC Sync (from here www(dot)htc(dot)com/sea/help/htc-desire-s/#download), you need the drivers from HTC sync, so your pc can recognize your phone.
Make sure you rebooted to bootloader. Then enter:
- fastboot oem lock >>> this is to "relocked" your phone so you can proceed to installation of the RUU.
First and foremost, is your phone branded? If yes, then choose the right RUU for you. If no, you can use the unbranded RUU. Or you can search the forum for your specific region, I think Europe RUU is ok. "Region" is your area, where you live and use your phone. Im from south east asia, so i used asia RUU. Also take note of Post #5 of the first guide, he has summarized everything and i believe he's in the same region as you. Read through everything before starting.

Put europe stock rom

Hello everybody, i've a big question for you I got an HTC One S with cid TIM__041, still locked. The installed ROM is the stock customized by my operator TIM, that's crappy without any updates, and i want to put the europe stock rom changing the cid to HTC__001 if it's needed. But i don't want to void my warranty. The device is OK, it has no problems.
How can I resolve this? Sorry for my bad english, but i'm an young italian
If you need bootloader information, here is it:
*** LOCKED ***
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.13.0000
RADIO-0.16.31501S.17_2
OpenDSP-v25.1.0.32.0405
eMMC-boot

That was only 2½ hours later, in which the USA is mostly asleep. Patience young grasshopper ..ehmm.. I mean Italian.
EDIT: I missed the AM/PM. It was 14.5 hrs like frdd correctly corrected in the post below this one. Sorry for that.
I'm not 200% sure but I don't think you can change your CID without unlocking your bootloader. Unlocking your bootloader will not completely void your warranty. It will still cover unrelated defects. Also, you can always re-lock and go back to stock afterwards, but only if you have a RUU for your phone that accepts your new HBOOT (that comes with the EU RUU).
If the 'problem' is that you want to tinker with your device but not take responsibility, then there is no solution.
-Jobo
Try 14.5 hours but yeah jobo is correct you need htcdev unlock to root and change cid
So, if I unlock the bootloader, the warranty for hardware problems will not voided? I need only to get the european stock rom, what's the best way to get it? However, i don't think putting european stock rom will void the warranty :/
Thanks for answering my topic But when I maked the topic, in USA was day. xD
Me too, though I am on T-MOB005 CID. And I don't want to exactly root my phone. So until we get S-OFF, there is no way. Just have to wait and be patient, like me. (I'm still on 1.77 and 2.21 has already been released)

So, are there no other way?
You can try to just run the 2.21.401 RUU but probably won't work.
Or you can wait for TIM to release the OTA if you're only after the new radio, your branding will still be there.
You need root to change cid, and you need htcdev unlock to root. No other way yet.
Hm..are there some news about s-off?

I decided, and now I got 2.21.401.10
I follow this steps: (thanks addsfsds)
1. Unlock, install recovery mod, root --> HOW-TO
2. Changed CID to generic (HTC__001) --> HOW-TO
3. Relocked bootloader (It's important!) --> Command: "fastboot oem lock"
4. Installed 2.21 HTC Europe RUU (includes stock recovery + stock rom) --> DOWNLOAD
5. I'm free!
You guys are saying you don't want to change your CID until S-Off is out because you don't want to unlock bootloader... Even if S-Off is out, you still have to unlock your bootloader to change CID *facepalm*
So I needed the best choice, because I need europe stock rom now.

Don't facepalm without knowing. We don't want to unlock the bootloader now because once we get S-OFF, we can S-ON back again with no traces of being S-OFF'ed. However, with HTCDev, it says ***RELOCKED*** which is a clear indication that the device has had its bootloader unlocked before. Some of use don't like to void our warranties, which is why we're waiting for S-OFF.

Vodafone UK Branded Phone

Hi guys!
I hope it's not a problem I opened a new thread but I haven't really found a fully answered topic to my question. (I might be blind, anyway...)
So I own a Vodafone UK Branded HTC Sensation. I am thinking to root the device. I do not want to use any custom rom, I'm happy with the official one (at the moment...) and I would only like to have "ROOT Access". So, am I right that I do not need to "S-OFF"?
In this case as I understand:
1.) I have to unlock bootloader (HTCdev)
2.) Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632553 to root the device
Is that right?
After the root had been done, will I be able to remove all the applications, boot image... pre-installed by Vodafone? (Kind of "de-brand" the device) Or will I be able to install a "EU RUU" or only the "Vodafone RUU". I'm really sorry if I'm totally wrong but I have been reading the threads for couple of weeks now and I already got absolutely confused... I appreciate any help, explanation. Thank you very much in advance!

Hi,
From having a quick look at the guide in the link you don't even need to unlock the bootloader via HTCdev. Just follow the guide. I personally unlocked my bootloader and S-off'd via revolutionary.io who did a great job of beating HTCdev to the punch within months of the sensation coming out.
Here's a "Super noob guide to unlocking bootloader and s-off" which may ease your confusion. Although for the HTC Rezound , the concept for all HTC Bootloaders is the same, Just don't follow that guide verbatim otherwise bad things may happen.
You should be able to de-bloat ( probably the search term you want to use ) your rom after root. There's also a guide for carrier unlocking knocking around somewhere which I also did, Unlocking it from 3UK grips
Good Luck
You could have probably asked your questions in the guide thread but meh, no one died and I don't think anyone's losing sleep over this post at least you've spent some time trying to figure it out on your own before calling for help

You will also need to install a custom recovery.

What is S-OFF

Hey guys,
I didn't want to post this on the official S-OFF thread cause I didn't want to distract from the dev talk, but I was wondering what S-OFF means. I am coming from a Moto Atrix 4G where S-OFF wasn't a thing, just bootloader unlock and rooting, so if someone could explain it to me that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

That page isn't 100% correct since with S-on we can still flash custom recovery, radios, roms, kernel but the general message is correct
Well simply put, s-off allows you to write to partitions we can't normally. It will allow you to downgrade your bootloader and other things of the sort. It doesn't void your warranty, in fact it helps keep it. Once you have unlocked your bootloader when you lock it again it says relocked, with s-off you can change it back to locked. There is more to it but that is basically what it is
thanks for the responses.

[Q] How to install official firmware from HTC?

I have custom recovery, updated HBOOT and running CM11.
Now its time to buy new phone and sell this one.
But how to downgrade this all and install official HTC Sense? (Not some custom Sense-based ROM).
As i imagine this i need to install windows and some HTC special apps, and somehow remove recovery...

Edit that image out asap, it contains your IMEI, which should never be posted publicly.
Did you not make note of the original CID before changing it? You shouldn't sell a device with SuperCID unless the buyer specifically wants a modified device and understands the dangers. Is it an at&t model? Telstra? Rogers? Hong Kong?

The danger is that to return the device to stock you need to return it to being s-on, and if we weren't able to work out what the original CID was it would remain as SuperCID. Here's where the danger is, running any RUU 4.1 or above while the phone is s-on and with SuperCID will brick the phone. But, if it's an at&t device then the original CID is CWS__001. Are you wanting to return the device to fully stock at&t specs?

I want to return it in some condition where someone who will buy this phone will not break it by trying to update from preferences.
If i will leave it as is - i need to write full list of all this changes i made with bootloader and firmware when will be selling, cause somebody will think its not unlocked, or not rooted, will try to do something and get brick. But in same time if i will write some much info - will be hard to sell it, cause 90% of people never saw clean android here, they will think its something wrong.
This is main reason to flash original firmware.
But if i will only flash original rom - in some day buyer will try to update it via HTC and get error and call me, or in worst case get some brick...
So if it possible to revert everything - please tell me some list of things to do: CID, S-OFF etc. and where to read about them on forum.

The first thing you need to do is backup whatever personal data (images, music, etc) you have on the device to your PC.
Next go into TWRP recovery and wipe data and sd card (internal storage).
Boot the phone and make sure all of your personal data is gone.
Next you want to run the at&t 5.18 RUU:
http://dl3.htc.com/application/HTC_One_X_RUU_5.18.502.1.exe
After that you can return the device to the original CID:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid CWS__001
Then relock the bootloader:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Then return the device to s-on:
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Now you have a fully stock device.
