[Q] Rom Manager has no DLs in it. - Samsung Infuse 4G

Following this article in order to get my Infuse to work with Rom Manager, "Install ClockworkMod Recovery On Samsung Infuse 4G [How To]" I find only about 7 entries in the DL section of the app, nothing I've ever heard of. What's the deal there? There's a DL ROM section, but nothing useful to DL? The article can be googled, I can't post a link here.
Anyway, I hope that article didn't screw me, I had to select Galaxy S I9000 because the Infuse is not supported. Is that why there's no apps to choose from?
So if I wanna use cyanogen rom, do I just DL it from somewhere, stick it on my SD card, then go back through Rom Manager to install it?

Why use ROM manager? Its not that good, and do sent work with the infuse. Use goo manager. As far as downloading ROMs, DL the ROM to the SD card, and flash from a custom recovery

Read the stickies in the different forums.
You'll find the roms and everything that's needed in the Dev section.
Also read and understand the instructions listed in the open for the rom that you want to install.

[Q] Flashing Cyanmod to Hero

This is probably a stupid question, but how do I actually flash a ROM to my CDMA Hero? I have ROM Manager.. and I put the files I downloaded from the [ROM] CyanogenMod-6 thread into my SD card and then when I go to flash from SD card I can find it.. but I don't know what to do from there. Is there a file I'm supposed to see? I just don't exactly know how to use the program, as this is the first time I've rooted/flashed anything to my Hero. Thanks!
Nevermind, I found a guide on using ROM Manager to flash a ROM on Google.

I don't know if there's a guide as explicit as this on here, but I couldn't find it.

[GUIDE]Full Root and CWM without computer w/ Gingerbreak.apk by Chainfire & 743C

Well, since no one has mentioned this yet, hope has returned for the quick computerless root, via apk!
This is not my work, it is Chainfire's apk, with Android Exploid Crew's gingerbreak binary inside... brought to you by the makers of rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin... anyways, here's the xda post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Note: this only installs su with superuser.apk, and not busybox, from what I've seen, I tested this with stock EC05. I'm glad busybox is not included, since it would be broken, due to the limited space of the stock EC05 system. So for most using this, the first steps, after rooting with this, would be the following:
Edit: new instructions, for installing rooted kernel, and Clockworkmod 2.5.1.0, all without a computer:
* on the phone, goto menu > settings > applications. Make sure Unknown sources is checked. Goto Development, and make sure USB debugging is checked.
* Install the following apps from the market: SGS Kernel Flasher, ROM Manager, Astro File Manager, and Dolphin Browser HD, all available free from the market, the names here are market links, for your convenience. If opening the links on the phone, make sure to choose the market, when opening them.
Note: Astro File Manager is for ease of locating and installing the gingerbreak.apk on your sdcard. Dolphin Browser HD is recommended, so that downloads don't get the names truncated... The stock browser has been known to do this, especially on my kernel zip downloads.
* Grab the gingerbreak.apk from here (I used the 1.2 version of the apk). either tap the apk download from the dropdown menu, or use astro file manager to locate the apk, and install it. Now close astro file manager, and any other apps that may be using the sdcard.
Now it's time to open gingerbreak from your applications, and choose, "Root Device". It may take up to several minutes, before the phone reboots itself. If all has gone according to plan, you will now have a very basic root, with the Superuser app, so that you can control what apps have root permissions. If for some reason you don't have superuser in your apps, or the gingerbreak has frozen past 10 minutes, reboot the phone, and run the gingerbreak app again.
Note: I am not directly linking the apk here, out of respect for Chainfire, who developed this apk... I wouldn't do it without his permission anyways.
* download DRockstar.Clean.Kernel.EC05.v1.02.zip and put on your sdcard
Original kernel post with sources: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053252
* Open SGS kernel flasher, and be sure to give permission when the superuser prompt appears. Tap "choose kernel", tap .. , locate DRockstar.Clean.Kernel.EC05.v1.02.zip on your sdcard, and flash the kernel. It should reboot the phone when done. You'll now be running a rooted stock kernel, with some nice added features.
* download cwm2.5.1.0.zip.
Original ReRFS Stock ROM and tools: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027904
Note: It's a really good idea to download ReRFS Stock ROM, in case you need to stock the phone, in a jam.
* open ROM Manager app, and Tap "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Choose the Epic 4G.
The following message will appear:
"Epic4G does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockworkMod recovery manually?"
choose yes, and select ClockworkMod 2.x.
Next, tap "Install ROM from SD Card". Browse to, and choose the cwm2.5.1.0.zip on your sdcard.
Tap OK at "Reboot and Install", and be sure to give permission, when the superuser prompt appears.
Presto... rooted kernel with full busybox, and Clockworkmod, with no computer needed, for the epic!
Note: Here's cwm3.0.0.6.zip, if you're ready to plunge into ext4. Make sure you have an ext4 compatible ROM ready to flash, on your you sdcard, before converting to ext4. The stock EC05 system will not boot after converting to ext4. Also, be warned, that as of yet, no posted Epic kernels are ROM Manager compatible with ext4, though I am quite certain that tanimn is very hard at work, doing his best to make this happen.
Anyways, I figured all this would be welcome news, and gives me hope again, that an all in one apk can be mustered for the Epic.
I know some are you are saying, "But this is all so complicated, can't you make this any easier?" Well, I say, having dealt with driver and cable issues galore for months, supporting one click root adb scripts... that this is, in fact, no more complicated at all. It may even be easier.
Maybe with some luck and a little skill, I can do a custom apk for us in the future, but for now, this *will* work.

It's been mentioned in "themes and apps" where it belongs not here in development.
OK, I did look there first (in the Epic section, anyways), but I must have missed it...
Some of the devs in the irc channel didn't even know, so I thought it was worthy of mention here, as much as a one click root is stickied in this very section.
If this thread needs to be deleted, so be it, I thought I was doing a service, calling people's attention to it, and outlining what steps should be taken, after using it.
Edit: now I see a post in the apps section, but my notes here are still very pertinent, to anyone relying on the gingerbreak.apk
theimpaler747: do what you will on this thread, it was intended as a public service announcement, and just might affect the development of the epic, especially since it'll most likely become the new root for gingerbread. I leave it up to you and your judgement.

First off, I suspect any one click scripts for gingerbread, would have to use the gingerbreak binary, also listed and linked in the Chainfire post.
Hopefully, before GB is released (and hopefully a patch hasn't been, for rooter's sake), we can make an apk that flashes a proper recovery in bml8. (Preferably, in my opinion, to cwm 2.5.1.0, until the user decides to convert to ext4, which can be done with a subsequent cwm zip, like the cwm3.0.0.6.zip in my ReRFS Stock ROM post.)
joeykrim has made a kernel flashing apk (FlashImage GUI, in market), but at my behest, left out the ability to flash bml8, due to the fact that if a corrupt kernel is flashed there, odin or heimdall is required to fix it, once a 3 button boot is attempted to a corrupt bml8 flash.
For now, I would recommend a manual bmlwrite bml8 flash for a known good recovery kernel, for anyone using the gingerbreak method.
Also, some kernels, like my Clean Kernel, have reboot recovery to cwm 2.5.1.0 if RFS, and, can be flashed with the free SGS Kernel Flasher apk from the market. Once reboot recovery is achieved, cwm can be flashed to bml8, using the zip tools in the ReRFS post.

Actually, you can convert to ext4 too, with the cwm3.0.0.6.zip posted in the ReRFS ROM thread... just flash it through cwm 3 button boot, or from reboot recovery with the kernel... keep in mind, that reboot recovery won't work for ext4 with the Clean Kernel, at this point in time.
but anyway, there's still nothing you can't do without a computer!

Updated, with instructions for ROM Manager zip flashing... muahahahahaha
Also, almost all the links are phone friendly now, especially if you use the Dolphin HD Browser to download files, and the app names, are now market links, in the hopes that will make installing them even easier from the phone.
The only link that is not a direct link, is to the actual gingerbreak.apk itself, which is contained in an xda post, that requires xda registration to see. I respect that and the original dev, and will not give a direct download link, without Chainfire's expressed permission. I do think others will understand this.
Anyways,
Hope you all dig it!

[Q] First time installing rom

I am a first time android owner. I have tried to read through all of the forums that I can on xda, but can't quite find the right answer.
I have a samsung galaxy s 4g, successfully rooted with superoneclick, no problem.
I am now interested in using custom roms, and have bought and installed Rom Manager on the reference from a friend. I have flashed CWM 3.2.0.0, yet I am unable to backup my current ROM. When it reboots, it puts me into recovery 3e and I can't do anything but restart. I am leery about using Odin, and about the same as Heimdall as I would rather be able to backup what I currently have.
Any help or directions to a thread I have missed would be greatly appreciated
phone stats
firmware 2.2.1
Kernal 2.6.32.9
build FROYO.VUVKB5
You'll have to use Odin at least once, and I believe (not positive on this) ROM manager causes problems on these phones. I'm not sure how to post links from my phone, but look in the development forum, go into the ref. Bible, down in guides theres a detailed tutorial called GB ext4 starter pack or something along those lines.
It will set you up with everything you need you just need to install a ROM on your sd card, I would recommend ICBINB kj1 as that's what I'm on and it performs great, but you should also give Valhalla a look.

ROM MANAGER DOES NOT WORK WITH THIS PHONE.
You must install Dr Honks kernel and it will give you red CWM. Read the Bible and the Noobs guide and it walks you through everything step by step.

He's talking about my guide. You can click on the link in my signature. "GB starter pack"
Just a comment: if you want to stick with froyo instead of updating to gingerbread for some reason, click the "Bali v3.3 + CWM" link in FB's sig. That will allow you to install drhonk's kernel, which will allow you to access the CWM Recovery correctly. Then you can make backups and flash ROMs for froyo, or consider updating to gb with FB's "GB starter pack" link.
I made the same mistake with ROM Manager

PS, thanks ultima
Thank you for the links and the direct answers!
My only other question is about step 1 in FB's BG ext4 starter. when you say instal busybox onto the sd card, is it just placing the whole zip file onto, or do I need to create a file and place the two folders inside?
install the whole zip to the root of the sd card
do not extract or anything

I never said install...
After formatting the SD card with the steps above, put your favorite GB ROM, and install_busybox.zip onto the SD card
So it's moving the zip files, NOT extracting them.
I realized that I had misread it shortly after I posted. But I just thought I would ask clarify.

You'll need option 5: None of the above.
Seriously, though, Rom Manager doesn't work that well for the Captivate. You'll be in much better shape if you do the things that Rom Manager normally handles by yourself.

Really!!! Damn. I just bought Rom manager premium and was going to flash CyanogenMod on my phone and i found a video using rom manager and it seems a lot easier to do with it.
Im wondering if its because i changed the stock kernel so i could root the phone! I put the mtcareys-kernel on following a user post.
I bet that's why i does not recognize the phone.
Sorry to hear you spent the money, but maybe it's not entirely bad - Rom Manager works on a lot of other devices, and you can (I believe) transfer the program between devices.
Rom Manager might not recognize your device if the build.prop file was edited. That could be why it's showing the I9000 option.
As far as flashing CyanogenMod, it's fairly straightforward:
1. Flash a kernel that will let you use CWM Recovery (Corn Kernel should have it - Boog's kernel does too, and if you need Froyo, look for speedmod).
2. Once in Recovery, flash the CM update.zip (you may have to do this twice. If so, reboot to recovery again, and flash again).
That should get you to CyanogenMod.

Clockwork mod recover. Is that the blue writing that comes up when you press and hold volume up and down and then power? If so then yes i do have that. I used that to root the phone with the corn kernel. Little green guy with a yellow corn a boot up!
I did down load the latest stable version of CM. (update-cm-7.1.0-Captivate-signed)
It says to Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the internal memory. But then it says Select Install zip from sdcard.
Also where is the update.zip file? And does it go on the root of the sd card or the root of the internal memory!
I'm following the guide here. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Captivate:_Full_Update_Guide#Before_you_do_anything_.E2.80.94_Make_a_backup
The actual name of the file you downloaded isn't that important. You can leave it with whatever it comes as. The "update.zip" they're referring to is the CM build you downloaded.
What you'll need to do is to copy the .zip file onto your phone Internal SD (the 13 GB partition) at a place you can find it easily. Once you've done that, reboot into CWM recovery (the menu with about 7-9 options, including "install zip from sdcard". It may have blue writing, depending on which build it is. If it only has 4 options, you don't have CWM recovery, but stock recovery.).
Once you're there, select the install zip from sdcard option, and navigate to where you put that zip file. Choose to install it and let it run.
If you're confused about whether you're putting an item on the internal sd card or not, you can connect your phone (including doing the "connect usb storage" dialog) and see what the drive sizes are. Once you know for sure which is your internal SD (13 GB), and which is your external SD (GB based on your card size), you can then re-label them in Windows (e.g. Internal SD and External SD). Those labels will usually stick pretty well.
oops
i was going thru my file manager to get rid of some old downloads and files and i deleted update.zip. i am now pretty sure it was for rom manager or cwm and remember seeing somewhere that it is supposed to stay on the phone.
how to fix this? download new rom manager?
I have noticed lately that when i want to reboot to recovery from rom manager to flash something it just reboots the phone.

The update.zip contained cwm and was used during the eclair 2.1 days. Now days to get access to cwm we have custom kernels and we can use the extended power button menu of dev roms, button combo, apps, etc. to boot into recovery...so yep, don't worry about keepin it, unless u plan on goin back to eclair.

How to install PDroid

Anyone know how to install PDroid on the i727?
The instructions are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
My first question was what to make of the instructions that say, "Make a PDroid Patch for your ROM with the PDroid Patcher and put the patch on your SD card." Seems straightforward enough. But *where* on the SD card? And which SD card, internal or external?
Mostly, though, it appears that CWM Recovery is required. To install CWM Recovery one must first install ROM Manager. kilometers4 advised me in the first (incorrect) forum I posted this in not to use "rom manager with the s2. It is not compatible and could cause a brick of your device."
ROM Manger's Google Play pays says "You must flash a Clockwork compatible kernel first (see XDA forums)." I think that means that before I do anything I have to overwrite my ROM and lose everything I've got. Is that correct? Or am I missing something?
The instructions for ROM Manager say, "Launch ROM Manager and tap the first option that says ‘Flash ClockworkMod Recovery’ and confirm the name of your device." My device (Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket ATT ) isn't listed there (possibly because I'm not using ATT but someone else on a month-to-month plan).
So... Is there a way to get CWM Recovery on my i727 without over-writing my own ROM first? I really don't want to lose all my customizations and settings.
Regardless of that, are there any step-by-step instructions that anyone knows of for installing PDroid, as that's my real goal.

Understood. When I bring up Google Play, I get "This app is compatible with your Samsung SAMSUNG-SGH-I727." It appears that one other user, lots more experienced than me, has installed it. Not having a deodexed ROM, though, I expect I'm left out since the PDroid patcher will only work with deodexed ROMs.
