Rooting Verizon S3 with 4.1.1 update on Linux - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been trying to root my phone for a while I've been looking around the net for a while now and can't seem to find any good guides to rooting a Verizon 4.1.1 update GS3 using Linux. The only guide I found used the international version of the phone. I run ubuntu 12.04
Does anyone here know of any good guides for this?

You can root and unlock the bootloader with Casual.

Casual doesn't work on 4.1+.

Odin is windows only. Have you successfully done this with Heimdall?

Rooting?

Hello I've just bought a note 10.1 and wondering how to root it and if I will lose any functions as I saw something about that somewhere? All I want the rooting for is to access system files (I want my saved game data from my phone on my tablet haha ) and I just like the fact I have the option to do anything on it but I'm not looking to change the rom or anything as I'm very happy with it at the moment and since its new it will hey official updates of the latest software so could someone offer any advice and a guide please? Thanks

Rooting is pretty easy because of the exploit and with this method you will not increase your binary count so no issues and you will not lose any functions.
Just install this app on your not
Run the app and click on Root device and you are done
No worries no hassels
The credit goes to the developer of the app !!
Wow that's got to be the most simple way ofbrooting a device ever thanks a lot!

will we still be able to receive OTA updates while being rooted?

Hi,
I have bought just today one Galaxy Note 10.1 16GB, then I have upgraded it to JB 4.1.1 and now rooted it with simply two click, WoW! Formidable!
Now, I check for alternate kernels similar to Syiah, Speeedmod ...just for curiosity for now.
Thank you for the quick link and thanks to Chainfire!
Be careful when flashing a new kernel on the new stock roms make sure they are compatible

Anyone know the answer to this? While this seems like a gloriously easy method to achieve root it would be cool to still receive OTA updates. On the other hand, I already got the JB update so maybe I shouldn't expect any more OTAs anyway?
You will still receive ota. And jb won't be the last upgrade for this tablet haha we will get 5.0. Samsung is getting really good at updates.

It doesn't have one if you use the exploit. The easiest why to add a recover is using team win recovery. You can install it via app on the play store. The app is called goo manager. That's what i use and I personally like it better than clock work mod.

Hey there. It's not that easy like installing windows or something and you loose your waranty. You should look for your specific phone in this forum.
What was it called?
Tmobile isn't the manufactor. It is just your provider.

Ah yes. This is a good place to start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III/SGH-T999
Do it only if you are familiar with advanced computer handling.
Just saying it because you wrote your wohle text in the headline which seems kind of confusing.

[Q] super stressed please help

So I was rooted on my Verizon SCH i535 and messed with a bunch of stuff. Disabling stuff cause I thought I knew what I was doing. Things were going south fast. Decided to do a factory reset. Now it won't load past the Verizon loading screen. I took the it a 4.3 if that makes any difference. What do I do?
I've read somewhere that there is an ODIN 4.3 file that you can flash. Find the post on the ODIN page in XDA. Read everything b4 you do anything then when you read it READ it again. No one is responsible for what you do to your phone.
Apologize for not being more helpful

root with Kingroot, then run sunshine

Yes, KingoRoot does work but it is not so good as it put ads on lockscreen and many annoying stuff. Now I have root (Thank), can I somehow change it to SuperSU and delete KingoRoot?
I skip Sunshine as it need the money to do the job.
