Isn't the htc one the official name for the device whilst M7 was just three rumour name? Or am I confusing it with another device?

Re: HTC One or M7
I have always found HTC build quality to be the best, not just in durability but also feel. Samsung doesn't "feel" nice on average but I'm learning their build quality is on par with all the latest phones. One of my least favorite phone makers is lg, bit I just got my girl a nexus 4 and from what I can tell it too should last a long time with the case she has.
But I've grown tired of needed high quality development for each phone I get (hence the n4) and I've phone the worst of the phone companies is HTC as far as getting new software for their "flagship phones"
Granted I will always use custom software its nice to know there is a solid base for me to work with, well mainly developers to work with, I haven't seen a HTC phone get more than 3 major updates, mostly two or one, the only one to have three huge updates was the dream, very first android phone.... Since then they have let their loyal fan base down.
So if you want a phone with consistent software updates, go Samsung flagship phones or go with a nexus, chances are you'll be disappointed in a years time or so if you dont

Here is why the HTC One.....well any HTC device is a lose/lose. 1 they lock em down tighter thank Fort Knox. And 2 well read this short article on why HTC was sued by the FTC. http://thehackernews.com/2013/02/privacy-of-millions-of-htc-devices-at.html?m=1

The s3 in my eyes is nothing special. My little brother has a Verizon S3 and it didn't impress me at all.
I read ALL the raves about how powerful it was blah blah blah. And when I finally got one in my hands I was like really, this is the NEXT BIG THING...LMAO.
The most powerful device I've touched to date has been my N4.
I'll get to play with the Note 2 again soon and I'll stack it against my N4. But the Note 2 is just god awfully huge and I wouldn't have it as a personal device because it covers my whole entire face haha

I like the Note 2. I don't use my phone for calls particularly often (a few times a day at most) and use it more as a productivity (or... productivity reducer, really) device and the form factor is great. It has great battery life due to the huge battery and the digitizer is fantastic. That being said, the Nexus 4 will get far longer support because it's a Nexus device and many people will hang onto it.
Nexus 4:
- Pros: Updates for 1.5 - 2 years, huge support from XDA and such, inexpensive, good battery life, great screen after tweaks, did I mention the XDA support?
- Cons: Somewhat fragile front and back glass, no SD card (if you use one), no removable battery (if you use one)
Galaxy S3:
- Pros: Somewhat well supported due to the very large userbase, Wolfson DAC, SD card, removable battery
- Cons: Feels pretty cheap, not a quad-core
- Toss-up: Pentile screen
Galaxy Note 2:
- Pros: Wacom Digitizer and Pen, huge screen, non-Pentile AMOLED, Wolfson DAC, SD card, removable battery
- Cons: You look like an idiot when you put the phone to your face, less PPI than S3 or N4, can't use one-handed well, less support on XDA, loss of Digitizer support when on AOSP ROMs, expensive even with a contract
The pros and cons in my head.

Well now I need to change the name again lol, I was thinking about the N4 but how big is the screen? And does XDA only have stock ROMs cause I would like to load a sense/touchwiz ROM onto it. And the N4 is the original device I was gonna choose from....since its on tmo.....but I want a big screen and NICE CASES

ill go for HTC anytime IF they still made qwerty keyboards

If you still want a keyboard, Samsung seems to be the only provider.
Luckily, the devices they make are fairly good. Captivate Glide is the device I have gotten in the past month. Keyboard is heaps better than the one on the 4G Slide.
They also make the Relay 4G, which has one of the best keyboards I've ever seen on a phone. And it's the fastest QWERTY available on the market right now.
I will eventually upgrade to that device, but the pickings are somewhat slim, I must say.
I feel like T-Mobile customers have been the most fortunate when it comes to QWERTY phones. They had and still have some of the best devices available.
3G Slide, G2, 4G Slide, and now the Relay 4G all from the same carrier.

HTC doesn't do it like Samsung does. Samsung gives updates HTC doesn't. Samsung devices (majority) all have nice cases. And Samsung will last you a good amount of time. Most likely imma get the s3 but if not the note 1. Sorry HTC but you let your biggest fan down

The S3 is light, but it's delicate. I've already broken two - and i'm pretty careful with my devices. Don't for a second believe that 'gorilla glass 2' is 'just as good as gorilla glass 1'. It's a bunch of bs.
It's quick, I like the bigger screen. Hate no keyboard, and refuse to use the 'fake' virtual keyboard. Had to go get a real virtual keyboard to cope. (I don't do fake well anyways)
I have an S3 on verizon, and the doubleshot on t-mo.
I use the s3 for work, because I travel and t-mobile ****ed me bad with no service - across most of the country. I haven't been to a backwater nowhere town yet that verizon didn't have good service in. T-mo, pretty much nowhere that isn't a huge population center.
But guess what? If I have to take a picture (and I take lots during the course of my shifts) I always pull the doubleshot. The S3 has the worst camera of any digital device i've put my hands on in the last 3 years.
My job depends on legible pictures - the S3 fails to deliver usable pictures so consistently the might as well just have left that out and put more ram in.
If I have to write an email, or the descriptions for those pictures where I can't use the magic cube? Yep - doubleshot. Then a wifi hotspot to send it to the S3 since I have no T-mo service wherever I am standing most likely.
So, despite having an S3, I still use the doubleshot for just about everything, and basically the s3 is a glorified internet connection to make up for T-mo's lack of network basically anywhere.
I do like the USB OTG function, and create and receive flash drives constantly while at work. It's the best way to swap large files like we make between each other on shift. The fact I can do it from my phone and don't need a laptop/netbook like most other people are stuck with is clutch.
Again, though, basically data hits the s3 and just goes over to the doubleshot where I actually work with it.
I do use the s3 to play Ingress - multi-window is nice if you port it or flash a rom that has it. I can't see multi-window being much more then frustrating on anything smaller then the s3 screen size.
I'm hit or miss on other games on the s3, can't say as I prefer it over the doubleshot or vice versa. The bigger screen isn't that much of a deal, but it might have been if I had the bigger one first.
I wanted to be a lot happier with it then I was, the extra ram is nice and the screen size is boss. Native HID bluetooth support is nice, but I find I don't really use it much beyond the magic cube. The MHL cable is cumbersome compared to the tv-out function of the doubleshot.
I sure as **** miss the keyboard shortcut hotkeys on the s3, just using android on it is clunky compared to a hardware keyboard device. If you got used to using them, get prepared to have your legs kicked out from under you. Doing specific things on the device takes 4 times as long or longer (if you can find something to tap to tell it to do what you want even - sometimes the keyboard shortcuts allow actions you can't otherwise perform)
Just having to do everything the long way without the keyboard shortcuts eliminates any performance gains the extra ram provides in general usage. 9 times out of 10 the doubleshot gets it done way faster just because I can tell it to do what I want it to do so much quicker.
nfc tags kinda make up for it a little bit, but not really. They are very limited in that you can only do what the tag is programmed to do. I have just under 50 tags in general use - it starts to become too much after a bit. Keyboard shortcuts are much more elegant.
In the end, my feelings on the s3 are just ... meh. If I could put the doubleshot on verizon, i'd sell the s3 in a heartbeat without a backward thought.

Why didn't you get the Droid 4? It's not a doubleshot, the camera is not as great, but it has one of the best keyboards ever fitted to a phone.

Are you really asking that question on a sensation forum?
no , i am just kidding buddy
actually i would love to ask some one honest , that's why i am asking here
Well i'm not really in much of a positon to comment, as I have a Sensation!
If I were you i'd read all the reviews out there and have a play with both phones in the store, then make your mind up!
S2 anytime sensation is slow compared (had both) amd battery on sensation gets so hot its frightening . The s2 scores around 3500 on quadrant and the sensation around 2400 but its same processor that should tell you something. Also the screen on the s2 is nicer
There is one downfall with the s2 and thats the pink spot on the camera but software has sorted most problems out
If you get s2 you wont be disappointed I know I wasn't

I have a sensation and a HD2.
Last weekend had the chance to play a couple of minutes with the GS2.
And one thing really got my attention.
The GS2 feels really really big!! I mean brick like big!
And I'm saying that when also owning a HD2 so I'm used to big phones
In all the reviews I've read, the consensus is the the GSII is marginally quicker, but is lacking in build quality. There is also the debate of SAMOLED+ vs qHD SLCD.
I have never been a fan of Samsung. HTC has yet to do me wrong.
Best advice I can give you is to find one of each and out them through their paces. Pick the one that you like more. Easy, right?

It isn't the same chip, clock speed and the overall ARM architecture are the only similarities. Also, the Sensation is running a much higher pixel count, so will under-perform in comparison due to the extra graphical requirements.
These points above have been covered on this forum countless times before.
Both have there strengths and weaknesses. I have a Sensation but will probably buy a GSII once they release stateside. I love the look of Super AMOLED displays and believe it or not, I like Touch Wiz for the simple fact that its light weight and when I run ADW on top of it, you don't eveb know its running besides the fact, you get to keep some cool features from it such as swiping left and right on a contact to start a text message or call them. I also like Samsung as a whole. I have 4 Samsung LED TV's in my house and every one of them looks superb. My 4 Samsung LCD's prior to them all looked perfect as well and I never had a problem with them in the 5 years I owned them. I also like the fact that Samsung is innovating in multiple markets. They make the LED panels for Sony and then Sony slaps there name and a new menu onto the TV and over charges the **** out of it. When it comes to display technology, nobody can hold a candle to Samsung as they are leading that industry aswell. When it comes to mobile devices, Samsung has been leading in processing power since the debut of the Hummingbird. I like the fact how they design the phone from the ground up but most every other company just purchases genaric parts or parts from Samsung to complete there phones.
In the end, there both good phones but I don't like how HTC can't optimize their drivers for the life of them. They've been like that since Winmo. They also could have done a better job with Sense 3.0 but its obvious they didn't optimize that either.

I do wish in the near future these manufacturers get it through their heads and give us the ability to calibrate the screen.
anyway, both good phones.
can't really go wrong with either. just got to pick the one that fits your taste more.
I prefer the built quality, style/look of the Senny and I like Sense UI...

Does anyone here actually like the Galaxy Nexus?

I just used one for a while, I do not like it. It is too large.
If the Nexus S4G had the internals of the Galaxy Nexus I would keep it forever. It looks like I will be keeping it for a while longer, I don't really see any other viable options at this point.
Discuss.
I actually like it. I have big hands so it feels good to me.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Well you'll be waiting a longtime for that amazing phone with a smaller screen than what's been coming out. In case you are blind to trends, every new top of the line phone that's been coming out for the last few years, the screen size gets bigger and bigger. But don't worry, you'll fit in with the rest of the grandparents who don't stay up with the times lol. btw when I say "you" its just generally speaking for all the other people who are waiting for the next bad ass phone with a tiny screen.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
I have tiny hands (only 5'6") and while I agree the SGN is large it isn't unmanageable. That coupled with just how awesome this device is I would urge people not to pass it up as being too large without trying it in store first. It really is an epic device

Nothing wrong with personal preference lol. I'm fond of our current screen size too but I'm up for change unlike a lot of people here who refuse or totally **** talk a phone because of the screen size and ***** how its garbage and going to wait for the next best phone (which will just be bigger than the last lol) I think the current phones out now will be the standard size for screens 4in to 5.x in. Any larger than 6in is just not that practical.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
Why, hell yeah I do. Sure it's ****huge, but I can deal with it. If I had the money, I would've bought it instantly, so I'm just gonna get the next phone once it is out.
But with that said, it's completely understandable if it's too big for most people.
But now that we run ICS, I'm still completely satisfied with this Nexus S.
I tend to agree. In my opinion the form factor of the nexus s is close to perfect. If the galaxy nexus was exactly the same bit instead with a 4 in screen it would be absolutely perfect.
tapa tapa tapa
+1 to what mrhaxx1 said. ICS works very well on my Nexus S. Realistically, I can't justify forking out another $600 or more for a Galaxy Nexus right now, so the NS will do me for the foreseeable future.
As for the size of the Galaxy Nexus, although there is a sizeable minority that agrees with the OP that it's too big, for most people the added screen real estate and resolution compensate for the inconvenience when using it one-handed. I'd love a GN if I could afford one, the size wouldn't bother me although I don't have very large hands.
Whilst it's nice and powerful, I've used one for a bit in a shop and I must say I wasn't really that impressed. Maybe it was a faulty model but it was pretty laggy, and I was shocked at how dull and muddy the screen was. Nice res so it's pretty sharp, but I found that my TFT Blade was actually brighter than the Galaxy on full brightness, never mind my S-LCD Nexus S...
I have a tablet, so I typically use that for my more Internet-intensive activities. My issue isn't with how it feels in my hand, but how it feels in my pocket. The Nexus S is perfect for what I typically use my phone for, which is checking scores, phone calls, and SMS.
I have an epic touch and I like it alot. But I love a galaxy nexus. Like more than any phone ever made kind of love. Like I might move everybody to Verizon and pay 1000 dollars kind of love.

Really, this isn't a solid argument for the Galaxy Nexus over the iPhone.
Haven't played with one, but after reading some reviews, I'm disappointed in the camera. Indoor pictures aren't that great and while most phones are using 8mp, GN is still stuck at 5mp, why is that?
So far ICS is working fine on the NS4G and who knows when Sprint will get it. So, I may just wait til the next Nexus to come out (hopefully it'll come out exclusively to Sprint first, longshot though).

[Q] Has anyone thought about their next phone?

Say your MyTouch 4G Slide died, what would be your next phone?
I have a personal list of bare minimum requirements.
GSM
1.2+ GHz Dual Core
1+ GB RAM
16+ GB internal or a MicroSD card
4G capability (Marketing 4G, not necessarily ITU 4G)
Dev Support
Under $500
Used is ok, but I'm tired of spending time and money on cannibalizing phones for parts. Here's MY current list.
Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy S Blaze / Relay
Galaxy SII / SIII
Google Nexus 4
HTC Amaze
HTC One S / X
HTC Sensation
HTC Vivid
Huawei Ascend D / P1
Huawei Honor II
MyTouch 4G slide
Oppo Finder
Xiaomi Mi-1 S / Mi-2
Xperia ion LTE
Yes I have, and I have been called a snob by some for what I want out of my next device. But this is all I want/care about:
1. It has to be a Nexus or I won't buy another android device ill go iOS.
2. Dual Core
3. 2 GB RAM
4. Dev support for ROMS such as Paranoid-Android/CMXX/AOKP.
5. At least a biweekly update of said ROMS.
6. Not to be called a snob for wanting this stuff.

I have to agree with Strapped, though I'll never be desperate enough for an iOS device. But, I've resolved to only have a Nexus device from now onward. They may not be the state-of-the-art or most powerful, but they are darn sure the best supported by devs AND by Google, so will always have the choice of a custom or a stock ROM that is up-to-date. Oh, and it has to be GSM since I need it for travel.
I was thinking about grabbing a Relay, but not until the price comes down. I still need my hard keyboard.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201
hardware KEYBOARD a must (slide-out, and would be nice to have it tilted too)
pure and unlocked "nexus" Android a must (never again locked or crapped-all-over Android OS for me, certainly no overpriced junk iOS or WP - but I may think about BB10 OS if it is still alive, lol)
at least 4-cores, more than 1GHz (CPU)
at least 2GB RAM
no more than 4'' screen (no less than 3.8'') - unless the actual screen is the entire front surface, then up to 4.5''
good video chipset (GPU) to play any highly-compressed HD/2K videos smoothly
GSM/4G of course (can't wait for all those CDMA garbage networks to die)
front cam (for videocalls)
if it must come with built-in video/photo-snapshooter on the back, it must have 2 microphones to record sound in stereo
don't care about built-in storage space, but must be able to effectively use 128GB SDXC U-I (and larger),
and card MUST be accessible without removing cover (that's the biggest flaw of MT4GS imho)
That's all
Oh, add a wireless charger to my list, but I doubt this will ever catch on en masse...
I had my first Dyna-Pik electric toothbrush using wireless charger back in 1991 and I always thought it's the future, but as time passes by, I now doubt it will ever come out from a niche aftermarket phone solutions...

I'm right there with you on every point - the only thing I would add for my own list of wants is for the device to have a physical keyboard. There are far far too many situations where I need the speed / precision in my typing that I can't seem to get from the on screen keyboards, where I find myself frequently fighting with the "intelligent word searches" because I am using technical / engineering vocabulary that is not in the dictionaries, or I'm pecking out small bits of code that the phone thinks is my inability to understand english.
If I could wave a wand, I'd want a refresh of the Motorola Photon Q without the USA blocked GSM bands. Since the Motorola purchase from Google, maybe it will happen. I also think I read somewhere that someone found a way to flash a radio to the device that enables USA GSM, so I might do some digging into that this weekend.
If that is unreasonable, another imaginary product that would do me just fine would be a "slider/flip case" that fits on the Nexus 4, giving it an exceptional four or better yet five row keyboard.
In the end, I'd be willing to drop $500 off contract for the right phone, and I'm sure a number of other people looking for a HIGH END device with keyboard would agree... We don't need more mid-range devices that are more or less the same 1.2ghz dual core device repackaged for the last three years (No, adding NFC to an aged platform does not lead me into the future) - and they wonder why the demand is low?

You seem to have both extremes..... Open Nexus with Dev Support or totally locked iOS.
The Samsung phones are ok, though the SIII is a bit big for my taste.
The HTC One phones looks fine, but the rest seem somewhat boring.
And I have some reservations about the Nexus 4.
The Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi have weak support here.
I still like the MT4GS, but I've been frustrated with it lately. Every time I have to take the phone apart I end up having to replace a digitizer or flex cable.

Yeah but my iDevice is oh so smooth. It's on my lap right now texting the wifey.....yeah yall didn't know I rocked iOS huh? And I don't think either is extreme. If wanting dev support is just to crazy then ill have to support my own device because I DON'T buy phones for what they are out of t he box, I buy them for what can be done with them after I get home and logged into xda.
When I took my DS apart the LCD was literally shot and fell apart in about 4 pieces. So I took my good motherboard and put it in cybots bricked device and it runs all this forum stuff real nice. I'm waiting to see if my new device was stolen out of the mail then I'm gonna mail a working device back to cybot, whip some ass and hope I don't get locked up for smashing this guys face. Yeah fun times in my neighborhood. But all that means is ill be forced into another phone

im will be upgrading soon and will either get the note 2 or the nexus 4. im not sure which yet......i have a few friends with the note 2 and i have gotten to mess around with it. it seems there is plenty of development on the device already. but the nexus still keeps calling my name
I just had to buy a new one because my camera stopped working 2 mounths after the guarantee ended For me a keyboard is requirement 1. There isn't that many out there with better spec. I wanted at least a 8mpix camera. 1GB ram. dual or quad core over 1.2GHz and the right frequencies to work in Sweden. The only one that could work is Motorola Photon Q 4G. But it seemed to currupting sd-cards and had bad battery life. (worse than MT4GS), Anyway. I ended up with a new MT4GS
hmmm ideas for the mytouch 4g slide 2
My girlfriend has the Samsung Galaxy Relay. The keyboard is nice, the screen is fine, and someone is already working on CM9 for it (but the keyboard doesn't work completely yet and the camera doesn't work yet). My only gripes about it are that the slide mechanism doesn't feel nearly as satisfying as the MT4GS and that the bezel is huge.
My girlfriend replaced my MT4GS so I'm coming back here after using a Nexus S. I'll miss CM10.1 a lot. ;_;

If I have to move from this device, I would probably be more inclined to getting the Note 2 more than the Nexus 4 ( whixh are basically the only reasonable options available now and in the near future)
This is because right now it would be easier and cheaper to get a Note II in my country than it would be the Nexus 4. Also, looking at the Note II smart dock available right now for the Note II makes it even more of a no brainer for me. The dock has 3 USB ports, hdmi out, audio line-out which practically turns the device into a PC or a gaming console depending on how you would like to use it.
I hate touchwiz, so i wound rather have the device dualbooting a jellybam-like AOSP and Linux. Considering the amount of brut the device has (1.6ghz quad with 2gb ram) I'd say it would be perfectly suited to run Linux natively, and not through vnc. Linux would probably put the dock to better use than Android anyway. I know Ubuntu Phone Os is on the way but it's a long way off. I was looking around and saw the TF300T had gotten a working port of Archlinux which means that it also gets X server running on it. It would be really cool to have the option of both distros by the time Ubuntu Phone OS starts getting ported to devices.
I need some feedback from my MyTouch 4G Slide community:
My MT4GS just broke two days ago. I have no in-call sound unless I'm on speaker phone or bluetooth. I guess my earpiece speaker is broken.
Anyway, I'm going to see my buddy at T-mobile on Friday. I've been looking at the Nexus 4 and on paper it looks amazing and I'm sure I'd be happy with it...except for that keyboard issue. I've been trying to use my slide without the keyboard for a couple days now and I really hate it. Things I hadn't even thought of before started popping up like not even being able to see the darn keyboard outside because of glare. I don't have that issuse with my slide out.
Anyway, I said before that I'd skip the Samsung Relay for a future keyboard device but now my back is up against the wall and I need a decision by Friday. Go for the Nexus 4 in all it's technological glory or get the Samsung Relay so I'm still in my comfort zone and a happy texter?
Does the Relay even have a dedicated XDA Forum? I searched but only found some stuff in miscellaneous.

The reason typing on the touchscreen sucks on the MT4GS is because the screen is kind of hilariously small. I went from the MT4GS -> Nexus S -> MT4GS and typing on the Nexus S is so much easier because the screen is larger.
The Relay does not have a dedicated forum but a very large development thread in misc development. I think it's a pretty decent phone. The keyboard is nice, CM10.1 is chugging along decently, and the hardware is similar to the S3. The sliding mechanism is kind of terrible though and I think that would be the first thing to fail on the phone.
Nexus 4 is pretty cool. I'd take a look at the Note 2 also unless you think it's too large and wear pants with no pockets or something.

Thanks for the input. I am leaning towards the Nexus 4 for many obvious reasons but I'm already getting separation anxiety from my keyboard and that 5 row qwerty is sweet on the Relay. I feel like a kid trying to give up his binky lol.

I play with it a lot and like it much but doubt I could ever use it daily, I'm I need of a keyboard, been hooked for years and haven't found anything to move me away... if it were me go relay as you sound like you have similar needs/wants

Yeah it's funny, I've been going back and forth all day about it weighing the pros and cons and it's ashame but my need for a keyboard might hold me back from getting that awesome Nexus 4. I also find myself using wifi calling to stay connected in a dead zone at work so that's another selling point.. I told myself i'd never go backwards in specs and that 5 mp camera is certainly a step backwards but I may end up taking the hit on that front to stay in my comfort zone. I do miss the dedicated number row from the G1 days too so that will be nice. If I'm forced to get a touch phone on my next purchase when physical keys are in the past, then so be it. I have two more days though and who knows, I might change my mind again and get the Nexus 4. The good news is that I think the Relay is free after rebate so I won't lose anything if I go that route and I could always buy the Nexus outright if I'm unhappy. Thanks for letting me bounce my thoughts here guys.

HTC one vs Samsung Galaxy S4

If you had an upgrade what would you choose.........
My choice would be the one. I like the LCD screen found on the DNA. I have alot of faith in the 4 Ultra pixel camera. I want a phone that doesn't feel like a child's toy. The quadrant scores on the One were amazing, although I'm sure the S4 will come close. What would you choose?
FYI: all phones have ultra pixels, however there 1.1. The ones found on the One are 2.0. Just saying

HTC uses perfect materials, it feels great when you hold it in your hand
Currently on an htc phone and with HTCs inability to update software in a timely fashion that makes me question them all together.
I have a samsung tablet but I am leaning towards the S4 due to samsung overall being the better product and updating things in a timely manner.
It took htc nearly a year to get ics on this and it's horrible for everything.
Go with Samsung. Overall it's just better supported and more highly recognized

The event for the unpacking of the GS4 was ridiculous! Seriously I watched the hole "show" and I was awaiting for the new killer feature that would erase the concurrents.
First of all, the design. Some of you may say "don't change the lineup of a working team" but personally I'm tired of the same designs with Samsung devices lately. It's the same on the GS3, on the note 2 and now on the GS4 ? Show some innovation Samsung!
I love Android, I never had an iPhone and never wanted one, but from the design, iPhone 5 is way better built.
HTC really got that and the amazing device that is the ONE is the proof.
You can't say "yeah I choose my device because it'll have more updates!". Wrong!
Every high marketed device comes with killer features ! 2gb of RAM? That's normal now. 32 or 64 gb of storage / 5 inch screen? Normal too...
The thing is they all look alike in a hardware point of view, that's why nowadays the design is very important.
A good design means a device built with beautiful and premium materials and that the device's design changes from the device that came out before.
Samsung didn't get that. Although the S series of Samsung is gonna sell at uncomputable numbers every one knows that, I don't think it's a major need to upgrade from the s3 to S4 because I just don't see the point except waisting money.
I think it may attract some of those who will walk in a store and see the device (thanks to the amazing job of marketing that Samsung always does) but for those who were waiting it to be a great and revolutionary device, the disappointment is the real feeling.
HTC ONE is the killer smartphone of 2013's beginning, sorry Samsung you'll do better next time. Or not ^^

Me getting S4. Although HTC One has better build quality but for everything else, HTC is not the company I would bet on. It will probably never get updates after one or two.
On the other side Samsung is adding more and more features in each update and from last year when I purchased S3, I already got 3-4 updates. Plus they already working on another one with all these latest features.
On hardware side, I think S4 has upper hand on HTC One. Battery is larger, processor is faster, S4 Screen is bigger but phone is little smaller. S4 Screen is better. Not to mention expendable microSD slot and replaceable battery.
So I would not want a phone with better built quality but strong specs and better features.
I think that's the main reason why I switched from iPhone to S3 in the first place. I know a lots of people might hate me for saying this but iPhone has best build quality among all phones out there.
So definitely Galaxy S4.
I said " I love Android, I never had an iPhone and never wanted one, but from the design, iPhone 5 is way better built."

I'll say again maybe in other words this time, when you grab an iPhone 5 and when you grab a S3, don't tell me that the S3 has a more premium look and feel... And that's not a question of opinion, that's a fact.
I never mentioned the prices of the devices but if you want to, we'll see the price of the S4, when they'll show it at 699$ then you'll tell me the difference with the iPhone. The only device that is worth talking on a price basis is the Nexus 4. The rest of'em are just a scam

Well it's probably true for new buyers. But for a experienced users, it matters.
When I switched S3 from iPhone, I didn't actually know about all this. I had option to choose S3 or HTC One X and I went with S3 because it's more popular and had better support.
From what I learn in last year, I could never buy HTC or Motorola phones.
These companies never support their devices. They even lock bootloaders so we cannot update our devices ourself or install updated custom roms.
I am also a little disappointed with S4 release but I would pick S4 over HTC one any day.

This was exactly like last year for me.
I wanted a phone with huge storage capacity/microSD capacity and long battery life/removable battery with decent specs. And QWERTY but I have given up on the last thing.
The HTC One X was released and as pretty as the White one was, it definitely was not a purchase I was willing to make and I waited for the Samsung Galaxy S3 announcement. The announcement came and Samsung gave me what I wanted. I bought the S3.
Fast forward this year. HTC One announced. Still no microSD slot but looks like decent battery life. Looks very pretty too (I still think the white One X is the best looking HTC phone though). Not bad this time around HTC but let's wait to hear from Samsung. S4 gets announced and again, they have what I want from last year.
If I was choosing again between HTC or Samsung this year: Samsung Galaxy S4 because it has what I want from last year.
Luckily I want more stuff this year which is why I'm not going to buy a S4. My S3 is lovely and I don't need to buy an S4. However, I now really want a bigger screen. This year, I'll be looking to buy a Note 3 or competitor version as long as it has a huge screen, huge capacity/microSD, huge battery.
Honestly, I don't care what company you are or even what your phone looks like (I bought the S3 for god sakes). Just give me what I want and I'd buy it. I'm also eyeing the Blackberry Q10 simply because of the QWERTY but I think my lust for a bigger screen will win out. Plus the stylus is alright...right?

Still worth it (coming from a G2)?

Long story short, my girlfriend needs to replace her G2, and is adamant about having a physical keyboard (having extensively used touchscreen and not liking it). My main concern is long-term reliability, since she's probably going to use the phone for a while.
If it's unreliable or something, is there any better/other option for an Android phone with a physical keyboard (that works on T-Mobile US)? I know there's the Samsung Galaxy S Relay, but the keyboard on it is absolutely terrible, and there's the Samsung Captivate Glide, but its running older specs and I know nothing about the phone other than it's cheap.
I have had my DS for 2+ years, without a single replacement. The slide is as good as new. Everything works as expected. I use the phone daily, but as a developer, I sit at a desk and use my device lightly in comparison to others.
I do not have a case or screen protector and have dropped it straight on concrete a couple of times. Its just fine, with some case dings.
IMO, the DS is a quality product. I will be hanging onto mine for as long as I can.

Came from the G2 too (this year...end of january)
And I gotta say: the keyboard of the G2 is way better
Also the ROM selection is bigger (well, G2 is a world whide phone whilst this is US only...so kinda clear: the fewer ppl owning this phone the littler is the chance of a dev beeing under these ppl) still says nothing bout the quality of the ROMs though
if you want sense, best is sticking to the stock-closest ROMs with sense 3.6 and android 2.3, there is one sense 4 and ICS ROM by sun_dream I myselve used for a long time as dd, but the developement stoped thus sun_dream's mytouch broke and he moved on (SGS3 as far as I recall)
If sense is not important, stick to the 4.2 ROMs, they are all really great and with few bugs
So far from my side

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524658
I commented on the relay in my captivate glide review thread. Look near the bottom. I would rank like this worst to best: 4g slide, glide, relay.
The keyboards between the glide and relay are actually very different. Both have ups and downs, but I think the relay keyboard is marginally better. Overall the relay is the best qwerty I've come across in a long time, and easily the fastest. The G2 was the best phone I've ever owned, but it's too slow now...

Agreed. The MT4GS keyboard is awful. The Relay has a great keyboard and has CM10.1 in active development for it. It also has a bigger screen and a newer processor.

I have recently seen some decent condition ones go for 130-140, and some minty ones ~150-160
I bought my MT4GSlide for $104 about 2 weeks ago off of Ebay.

I loved my G2, but the MT4GS was a great upgrade, though I do miss the extensive dev support of the G2. Anyways, everyday, I find solutions for my MT4GS that justify my upgrade decision. The improved camera and processor alone is worth it in my opinion.

Not to mention there are some great devas here as well along with many talented porters. Actually the g2/dz has really only andromadus left with a few other porters. I'd say the devices are on par as current development goes nowadays
The g2 has better build quality and a better keyboard, I'd say every other measure has become a win for the doubleshot.

Are you from the future? The myTouch 4g Slide model is less than 2 years. It was released in the summer of 2011.
The greatest hw keyboard phone ever. I just love it.

I don't know about g2 but Desire Z doesn't have a better build quality than Doubleshot for sure. One of my friends has DZ and I feel more comfortable typing on DS keyboard rather than DZ.

I would say that's just prefrence but I really can't see how you say this, I can through my g2 around and it won't brake, the construction/build qauality is far supperior, not just on the outside but in, the doubleshot has a poor design which means compents need to be gluded together, so in build quality the g2/dz (same phone) is much better.
I personally feel the keyboard is much better as well but I guess that can come down to personally prefrence so ill give you that

So she ended up preferring the 4G Slide - now that I have it, any ROM recommendations? Something that's easily a daily driver, with all built-in functions (keyboard lights/keys, camera features, etc) working? I'm thinking scverhagen's CM9.1 right now.

Had this for 2 weeks now, its awesome, stable, everything works (except the LEDs for alt/shift, but he is working on that xD) but the JB ROMs are also quite stable now, so i would recommend that you try some and leave at the best for you/her^^
