I'm curious what people recommend for best Android tablets?
I was leaning to the Asus Transformer but looked at one in the store today and it seems a little slow moving around the system. Are all tablets like that now?
I'm wondering what people have as required features?
Do most tablets have USB ports and such?
I guess I need to do more research, but was wondering if someone was familiar with the options out there now.
I did read that some are suggesting waiting for the next generation of tablets.
I saw that Lenovo is coming out with new Tablets soon also that have standard USB ports.
I'd say the tab 10.1 because it doesn't have ****ty sense and you can use a an adapter for usb which is less than £2.50

If you want something cheap, but still with good CPU/GPU spec (and no `phone` features, the Nook Colour works well for me.
(Once you root it, and get rid of the default Barnes & Noble customised Froyo build)
take a look at toshiba's new one, had great reviews on engadget
Just so you know, staples has a $100 off coupon off any tablet.

I like Creative's Ziio.
The transformer works good and also pretty fast with the newest updates, also asus seems to provide good support, but i think most of the android tablets come with the tegra 2 chipset, so the hardware performance should be the same on similar devices
important is nvidia tegra gpu, it's great!
I'd say go for the new 10.1 tablet.
+1 on the Nook Color, nice choice for an inexpensive tablet.
Dell Streak 7 isn't bad once you get it rooted.
Transformer, I loveit!
Hey guys I saw no slickdeals that the price of the HP Touchpad is dropping 300 bucks tomorrow cause they dropped it! I called to confirm and its true, I bought 3 for the full price and they 100% guaranteed that I would be given credit when the price adjust tomorrow at 7AM EST.
Heres the Slickdeals thread:
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3220862
You can either wait till tomorrow for the price drop or call in right now and pay full price and have it adjusted tomorrow morning. Some are saying the new price is live for the Academic shop but some people can't see it with .edu email addresses.
I have played with the tab in a store and I have to say for $99 this is one Hell of a steal.
Good luck.
Wow. I was expecting a liquidation, but this is remarkable. For browsing the web and random Document editing, this is an amazing price!
Does anyone know the hackability of this device? Do you think that, despite discontinuation, that the app market might become at least respectable (with xda involvement)?

I don't know about the hackability but I'll tell you this tab handles flash like a boss. Its the only one I've seen that can do 1080p youtube without a hitch. And I dunno, they are killing off the touchpad itself but they want to keep webOS alive, I don't really know what that means for webOS on the tab.

Uh, I've heard that someone is making progress with ubuntu but I've seen nothing on android. And its probably not gonna happen for all I know cause isn't honeycomb based on tegra?
So I can just buy this to just surf the internet? If so, I am ready to buy a couple.

Does anyone know what stores have lowered the price? I've been checking the usual suspect's websites and they haven't updated yet. I'd rather walk into a brick and mortar place to get it though. I don't want to wait for shipping if I don't absolutely have to.

Target and amazon both had it but they sold out in minutes. I don't know but maybe bestbuy might have it tomorrow, I say this because Bestbuy Canada had the $100 price online.

Honeycomb has been ported to the galaxy s line, galaxy tab and evo... Probably more too, I think Nook. So... Maybe it's possible?

I'm DEFINITELY buying one and I'm sure ICS can be ported to it when the time comes since the source will be released for it. This is a SNAPDRAGON QUALCOMM CPU and GPU and HTC uses that for their CPU/GPUs so I don't see why it's not possible, someone would have to write a kernel from scratch though to make it smoother, just like how the HD2 has Android, but it's not perfect since it's not using it's own kernel. If someone actually takes the time to unlock the bootloader(if it isn't already unlocked) and write up a kernel for it and port ICS to it, this tablet can be badass ;D $99 Android Tablet with ICS pl0x.

Got one for $90. I mean, at that point I couldn't resist. Heck, at worst I feel like if I use it, dont like it, I can still flip it for a tiny profit on craigslist or ebay.
Im really hoping for an android port. The specs on this tab are actually quite good. Im probably going to end up keeping it regardless. I'll probably just end up using it for bedside web-browsing, movies, and music.
There's a killing to be made by porting android to this thing. thousands of people just picked up this thing on slickdeals (there are literally over 11k browsing right now). I know tons are willing to donate (im good for 10$-20$ myself depending on quality and progress)
Looking forward to a touchpad xda forum soon

Yea I know, I hate these kinds of threads too. But the wifey is bent on getting me something for my bday and kept insisting on getting me the SGS3. I know I'm not alone when I say I'm very happy with the Infuse due to all of the great developers and themers here. I'm currently running Aeon 1.4 with bits and pieces borrowed from Ethereal and Mind of Mac. Under the hood, im running Zen's B2 OC'd @ 1400. With this setup, I have an aesthetically pleasing, buttery smooth interface. Bottom line, I'm satisfied with my phone. Sooo, why would I need another one?
Because of the Infuse, I've all but neglected my PC... which is cool with me. Some things that I most definitely have to do on the PC however due to a bigger screen are: check my email and my bank account. I almost always feel as if I'm overlooking something when I do these two tasks on the phone because of the decreased overview. But will a 7 inch tablet truly replace my PC altogether?
I've picked these two products because they're the latest and greatest and they're comparable in price using a family member's upgrade. Open for suggestions, options, trolling, or anything else that comes to mind. Thanks.
Oh yea, birthday's tomorrow. :/

Depends which u think u need more...personally I got both lol..I just got my att s3 2 weeks ago its a sweet phone..and the dev support has been extremely quick..aokp cm9 and now cm10 are all available for the s3...I ordered my n7 last week 16gb should be here sometime next week....main reason for me ordering it is I need to replace the tf prime I bricked..so it was sort of a necessity for me that arose...if I had to choose I'd say s3
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Premium HD app
See that's the thing. I truly don't believe I NEED either. LOL! But hell, I need to pick something. Here's some things i do and don't need this new toy for: I don't play games. I do watch HD YouTube videos--Infuse has no problems with this. Just started renting and buying movies. Haven't tried hooking it up to the TV yet but I don't think it should be a problem. I do read a lot online and with either, the extra screen size should help. I make full use of the Wolfson DAC which I know is in the SGS3 as well which makes this decision all the more harder. I have an iPad which has been claimed by my two year old. Never liked that anyway as its too heavy and delicate.
Man, I don't know. Thanks though!

The n7 doesn't support hdmi-mhl out of the box so you can't output a movie to your TV. More then likely there will be a mod to enable it via root..but out of the box don't expect it to do so if your looking to do that. The s3 out of the box does support mhl however.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Premium HD app
I'd get the S3, and keep the infuse as a storage/entertainment/backup device. S3 for in the go and the Infuse for home. Because seriously, if you think your infuse is buttery smooth now wait until you get your hands on the S3. The display is very very beautiful...
I wish I was in your shoes because it would be a no brainer for me.

I have ordered stuff from this place many many times. Never Cell Phones. What are your guys options? They are cheap. Also does anyone know if any of these are being worked on by XPA developers? thanks
http://www.lightinthebox.com/c/android-cell-phones_3309
Never heard of them, quickly glanced at a couple and they seem to be 2-3 year old technology. Plus being they are trying to mimic popular phones I will also assume build quality is as cheap as the price hints at.
Granted I know nothing about these phones so take my opinion with a grain of salt... but I have almost always had less the good experiences with knock off brands from over seas

These definitely look interesting. Would be cool to get some hands on time. These are probably cheap Chinese phones that are garbage in functionality and build. If you have had good customer service from them and they have a return policy, then give it a try and let us know how it goes.

They're not cheap for what they are, cheap. If you buy one, you must have the mindset of a professional gambler, that the odds are in favour of the "House", and be prepared to lose everything.
They're not that cheap. You'd do better buying something off Craigslist.
But I did buy my son a Chinese knockoff of a Blackberry, dual SIM, any gsm radio standard in the civilized world, off ebay for $25. Seems pretty robust, nice display, music player, fm radio, works on any gsm mvno. Now that's good value.

There is a knockoff of every popular phone of the last year. Reminds me of the Simpsons going tv shopping. We have all the major brands magnetbox sorny
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Honestly, yes as everybody has mentioned, these seem to be knockoffs of other phones ( such as a the sgs3) and the hardware maybe a little bit behind, but they're cheap and you'll get what you paid for. I've read the reviews and almost all of them have a positive feedback, saying they love it, it's fast, fast shipping blahblahblah.
In the end, its all up to you, if you're looking for a cheap phone that will give you a bang for your buck.
Keep in mind that since it's not big time developers nor manufacturers, don't expect huge support.
As an added note to before, the few android knock off devices I've owned have been easy to root but you need to make your own changes to the kernel/ROM if you want too much more than is there already in android. But there are many auto scripts nowadays that allow you to much of this easy.
Don't expect too much quality hardware wise but for the most part android I'd android and if you're willing o chance it you maybe OK. Up until I got my nexus 7 I used one of a few of the knock off tablets I bought. One of them was real nice for the price, the other three I had to sell on eBay rather quickly as they were subpar

I am in the market for a tablet. I have had plenty of Android phones so I'm very familiar. I have no desire to get an iPad(let's get that out of the way up front) but I've been debating an Android tablet or a Windows 8 tablet. I'm currently contemplating a Note 10.1 but am a little nervous about it's age. We all now that a device that's a almost a year old (gulp) is almost ancient (I'm not knocking it because I'm still considering buying it). So...my question is this:
Given the current options, would you buy a Note 10.1 again? If not, what would you buy instead? Thanks everyone!

Its a great tablet and givin it's age it's still the best one available that runs on android, that's my opinion. I haven't used a windows tablet so I can't say anything about them
sent from my jelly bean infused note 10.1
I would say the Note 10.1 is still the best out there, besides which the S Pen really sets it apart from the competition.
As for Windows 8 tablet vs Android tablet you just have to look at the relative sales for each format to see Android is way out in front and has a comprehensive eco system to match. Microsoft are very much like Apple in that they like to lock their customers in to their own proprietary eco systems, being primarily open source, you don't have to suffer this major limitation with Android.
I've had several Android tablets now and my favourite before the Note 10.1 was the original Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Note 10.1 is a great leap forward.

If i were u I would narrow it down between the nexus 10 and the note 10.1
The nexus 10 has better specs abviously and it will allways has the updated software and the screen is fantastic
I own a note 10.1 so I'll tell u some features on the note 10.1 that I cant live without
1) the multi-window multitasking believe me its very handy and I use it all the time
2) s-pen I actually only use it in some Web pages as a cursor on the menus of that site
3) sd card I dont have to point the advantage here
And if ur worried about the speed of this device I find it rarely ever lagging
But if it was my choice I would pick non of that list I would wait for the next generation of note 10.1 that device will have the display of the nexus 10 and even better specs and more features
If you are doing a lot of writing S Pen is something you just need to have. If not - get Nexus 10, it's also made by Samsung so component quality should be similar.

A simple guide to tablets today: Are you going to use the tablet for work, or studies? Then the Note 10.1 is without competition in the Android section and there won't be another similar this year since Samsung recently released their 8 inch version. Depending on what you're using it for and your budget the relatively new Samsung Series 7 Slate (or something) is worth checking out, it's a bit larger with 11.6 inch but it got a full windows which of course makes it more of a working machine for obvious reasons (MS Office, Matlab and other full version app to mention a few). It's not as handheld though, but I've not seen it irl so I'm not sure how heavy and bulky it really is and it's about twice as expensive.
If you're typing alot the Asus transformer series is of course something to consider, especially if you like building quality.
But if you just want a tablet for surf, maybe games and movies/pictures I believe the best one out there is Nexus 10.

I bought a note 10.1 today after thinking hard Nexus10 vs. I have and like a Nexus7. But I wanted larger, and felt the rear camera and sd card capability made the important decision parts for me. Costco was $479 today. Couple days ago it was $429. 《Sigh》
WIsh I could get rid of the Samsung embedded apps. That is a disadvantage, the Nexus is clean. Almost like I bought it from Verizon. Wonder how clogged up a vz note is《g》
Thought hard about ASUS transformer and the dock. But saw too much griping online. And no local knowledgeable vendor. Though I likes asus mobos and their nexus 7, I couldn't afford to buy a dud. Besides there are so many variation of the tf700 out there that it is hard to know what you are looking at.

Yeah I hear you completely but the more I compared a laptop vs a tablet I realized that I'd be limited on several programs I use on a desktop. A laptop would allow me to still use music creation software, vector manipulation and a few others that I wouldn't really be able to do on a tablet without sacrificing performance. I have come to agree that the note 10.1 would currently be the best tablet choice for what I was hoping to do but a laptop is the way to go for me at this point. Thanks everybody!

I got my Note 10.1 about a month ago after struggling with Note 8.0 quality issues (more than 10 checked and all just poor). I have used a lot of tablets and while it got some time to get used to the low res screen of Note 10.1, after a while it won't bother you anymore. This tablet is really wihtout competiton if thinking of something you can really use daily for work and fun. Also the battery life is excellent. As I have said before, I have no use for a tablet without "S Pen" anymore

I've had both the 10.1 and TF700, and the TF700 is a beauty. If your into rooting and tweaking, the TF700 can be made completely smooth, lagfree, and with no problems. Out of the box, its pretty silly, with some work its the same if not for sure better in real world performance than any other tablet on Android.
The battery in the dock, full usb slot, micro sd, full sd card slot, and most of all the far superior screen is what sold me on it. It really depends on what your going to be using it for, I use it for class and the dock is invaluable as well as all of the extended memory. I also watch plenty of HD movies and they are crystal clear which is a plus. But I definitely see the appeal of the Spen, but I'd never use it.
