Here you go..tutorial on [how to] make a flashable zip
Special Thanks to ateeq72 for teaching me
REQUIREMENTS
- Any file that you want to replace or add to your phone;
- An existing (base) cwm flashable zip file. - I've attached one below;
- 7-zip, Winrar or any program which can open and modify zip files .
STEPS:
DIRECTORY STRUCTURE:
(1) Download and place the sample.zip (attached below) anywhere on your desktop;
(2) Right-click on it and open the archive with 7zip, winrar ... [DO NOT extract]
Now you should see two folders: one called "system" and one called "META-INF".
1. Let's start with the "system" one, so open it:
In there, will go all files that what you want to add or replace to the system. So let's say for example that you want to replace the bootanimation.
Make a "New Floder"
-Rename its as "media" (make sure its aint in CAPS nor with in quotation marks)
-drag those two new empty folders into the /system/ folder of the 7-zip opened archive
-now simply drop the two files in their respective place: the bootanimation.zip file should go in '/system/media' folder
.. If you have more files to add, just follow the logic above; I'm sure you get the idea by now.. :silly:
Hints
/system/app - all the system apps (SystemUI.apk etc)
/system/framework/ -framework-res.apk,android.policy.jar
/system/media - bootanimation.zip
/system/lib - libraries (*.so)
2. The other folder included in the opened archive is named "META-INF" and all the file in it should be left unchanged.
Now,just place the zip into your sd card! & try your luck Ofc it will work
That's it !
CMON!Thats easy

You could use ADB to remount the system as r/w. Someone who knows Linux can give you the commands, I'd just have to Google for them myself.

If you have any file explorer from the market (ES, File Expert, Astro), you will need to enable root in the settings, and then most likely use the menu button and 'More' to 'Mount r/w.' It varies a little between apps, but they can all do it.

I installed it but got an error that it didnt install. I locked my screen and when I tried to unlock there wasn't a ring anymore making it impossible to unlock.
The 3-key combo did the trick and after the reboot it's working like a charme.
Looking good! Thanks again

You need to re-upload both the Quicklaunch widget mods... they are corrupted. The archive is damaged. Why don't you use XDA's uploading facility and attach them... or perhaps another hosting site. Whatever you do, don't use the same link... check the files and re-upload them afresh.
Cheers.

Hello everyone..
In my tutorial here, I want to show newbies how to create their own flashable zip file to flash by recovery mode (CWM)...
Now installing your mods become easier and faster
Needed tools for newbies:
1) Download this zip template that I made particularly to devices kernels that support auto-permissions fix feature like our GT-N7000:
Template-for-auto-perm-fix-kernel_v1.1.zip
2) WinRAR or 7-zip program installed in your computer.
3) zip-auto-signer_v1.1 patch in case your kernel needs it (windows users).
4) Cup of hot tea!!!
How is it working?
Open the template zip file by WinRAR or 7-zip (don't extract!! Just open)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now what you need to do is just to drag & drop your modded file into its corresponding destination inside the zip file.
Copy your finished zip file to your external SD card.
Boot into recovery mode and flash your file... Now you can treat yourself the cup of tea.. you deserve it
Extra step:
If you are using stock kernel that needs verification signature from flashable zip file, then you need to use zip-auto-signer to sign your finished zip file.
First copy your finished zip file from previous step and open "zip-auto-signer" folder (download from above).
Run the zip-auto-signer.bat to create all needed folders.
Now paste your zip file in "put-zip-to-sign-here" folder.
Rename it to any name but don't leave any space between letters.!! and run the script zip-auto-signer.bat.
Now go to "finish" folder and copy "signed_*.zip" into your external SD card.
Boot into recovery mode and flash your signed file
Simple and noob proof tutorial, I hope it will help you all new xda members
N.B: In case anyone needs a template that is coded to fix permissions automatically as well, I have created this template [Template-for-non-auto-perm-fix-kernel_v1.1.zip] so you can use it as your base.. But using this template on kernel that supports auto-permissions fix like Philz kernel will only make flashing time unnecessarily long!!

Yes you can but it will not be enough for app to work, you need to fix permissions and to create symlink of that app in system app folder..
why not to try the template above, it will do all the job for you

As I mentioned, don't extract the template, only drag and drop your apk into preload\symlink\system\app folder whether using computer or phone to do that and then flash

To make it easy here the tutorial....
If using phone I prefer to use root explorer. If using laptop just need 7zip.
1. Download my modded sviewcoverservice.apk https://mega.co.nz/#!aAR3BJqB!8anPU32TCLeSOa0h4AG71PYoPfrWbc2bqFARJC_iFzc
2. Prepare your favourite wallpaper with resolution 1002x954 pixel and rename to mainbg_pattern_mainarea.png
3. Change modded apk to .zip(if you are using phone. If using laptop just open using 7zip)
4. Go to res/drawable-sw360dp-xxhdpi
5. Find mainbg_pattern_mainarea.png to mainbg_pattern_mainareax.png
6. Copy your wallpaper n paste inside the folder
7. Zip the file back and rename back to .apk
8. Go to system/app and rename original SViewCoverService.apk to SViewCoverService.apk.bak
9. Copy and paste your modded SViewCoverService.apk and set permission to r-w-r-r
10. Reboot

@jakTomas I wrote turorial for kitkat 4.4.2 ..... if you are running JB 4.3, u may proceed to the link on first post
Having an issue where re-zipping the folder causes the apk file to not be read correctly
Fixed ! all what was needed is just drag the modded png inside the opened archive not repack it
U can drag modded png if you'r using laptop.. but if you'r using hp you need to unzip n repack back.
Sweet, thanks... Needed to change weather icons too so this definately helped...
Great, works fine on my Note 3
Here is my patched file (remove .zip)
best regards
How do I change the transparency. I've tried all the . Apk's posted but there is always the colour tint. Any way if removing it?

If your ROM is odexed, just rename SViewCoverService.odex to SViewCoverService.odex.bak (or delet it) then reboot.
