Weird clicking sound in camera when focusing - HTC One S

After updating to JB, i am hearing a weird sound when the camera is focusing. It doesn't happen when i was still in ICS. The camera produces a clicking sound (usually paired by 2 clicks after touching the screen for it to focus). Do you guys think it's a hardware issue? I was wondering coz this only happen when i updated to JB..
Sent from my HTC One S4 using xda-developers app

Mine does that too. Always did. So did my old HTC nexus one. It seems to be the auto focus module. Some times mine ticks loud but usually it's faint. It shouldn't be a hardware issue of your camera auto focuses.

But i only start to hear that when i updated my phone to JB. I've never heard that ticking sound when i was on ics 4.0.4.. nevertheless, it's just the sound that is troubling me. With the camera app itself and the quality of the pictures taken, i don't have any issues.. i'm just afraid that the update has something to do with that ticking sound..

Are u guys with s4 Jb update facing this issue of sound coming from earpiece instead of rear speakers after the Jb update?
Like for example when someone calls u, sometimes the sound of ringtone comes from the earpiece instead of rear speakers?
Even if u make some video with camera and then watch it, the recorded sound comes from earpiece. Did u check it?
It is an issue with some S3 phones after Jb update. Wanted to confirm r S4 phones (with JB update) facing the same issue?

Ok. But we S3 users seem to have this issue. Not everytime, but sometimes the sound starts coming from earpiece (after JB update)

A possible FIX. This may not be the correct way to fix it, but should work anyways. Get a Root Browser, go into system/media/audio/ui and replace camera_focus.ogg. Make sure to set the files permission to 755. I found an online converter that converts most sound files to .ogg, it has to be an .ogg file, with permissions 755.
Hope this helps

It's not the audio sound, it's definitely not the solution. That autofocus is different from the HTC fake focus sound

I'm pretty sure all of my phones have made this noise. (all HTC)

Mine has always done that sound when focusing. I guess it's normal since the camera works fine...

Hello there!
Well this is weird but mine does click since the first snap. And it was ics then...

It seems it depends on a certain device. I didn't have it before but after changing my mobo in service, the sound appeared. On ics. And it only sounds on auto focus. Manually focusing there is silence.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

It's probably just JB using a different focusing mechanism than ICS which perhaps causes the lens to move more thus resulting in a more audible click noise. As long as it functions fine and takes focused pictures I wouldn't worry about it.

Always had this noise, only in auto focus though. It's disappeared on CM10.1, and I can't say how happy I am at that.

Speaker Not Loud Enough

Just wanted to check if it's just me or are there other forum members also experiencing the similar issue of speakers just not being loud enough???

my one is screaming
Have you enabled dts feature when using the stock music player? Also it depends if the audio file volume was upped correctly when it was mixed. It plays real loud for me even when dts is not activated. Also think about ambient noise in the background when you are playing music
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
for me it's speaker, not speakers... I can only hear sound coming out of one speaker... I guess the other one is the mic... and yes I can barely hear mine too
Thanks Dude. Got it. It was the DTS function that was off.

Mine's running great. Speaker is quite a bit louder than my old Nexus one. Compare it to some others if you can.

this phone compared to my droid is 1 10th as loud and thats pushing it. in music player all i have is shuffle and playlist nothing about dts. been searching the net cant find anything. can someone please walk through steps you took to do this. i hate to lose this phone but i can not handle this i cant hear it without putting it so close i can see the picture. and both the speakers on bottom are working. i read on the net about a couple dts programs from tmobile neither of which are on my phone.
When you are playing music in the stock music player. Go to the song currently playing and you'll see dts function

ok
just got the 32gig card today putting mucis on it now but that wont help videos . but if it helps on this it can be made to work on video player or get teh programs off a slate dump since i guess tehy left teh apps off the g2x.
So if one of the speakers not working, then is it a defective unit? Only my right one works and the left one doesn't.
Left one is a microphone. Wow too many people are wondering about this.

HTC One S sound problem

Hi Guys. I have an Asian HTC One S (S3 processor) with JB 4.1 installed. I am not on root or anything. When it comes to receiving calls or messages, the sound seems to be low. I checked the sound from the sound settings and everything seems to be on full. Anyone can help please? Thanks !!

There is actually a bug in htc one s s3 JB, that audio/sound starts coming from front speaker (called earpiece) instead of rear speakers.
Many of us S3 users with JB update are facing it. Search the forum.
As far as the temporary solution is concerned, u can play some audio file (from music player) and the sound will start coming from rear speakers.
And i guess because of this bug u r hearing low sound on calls n messages because it could be that the sound is coming fro front speakers instead of rear speakers.

Hi, I had the same problem when after I plugged in some other non HTC headphones. After I plugged the original ones, everything went back to normal but after a reboot - same s**t.

[Q] Phone ringing with headphones attached

Does anyone know how to change the default ring behavior under Android 4.1? I can put my phone on silent and it will not ring, but when I attach my headphones, it rings both through the headphones and through the external speaker. I know I can turn the phone on silent mode with the headphones attached, but then it doesn't ring in the headphones either.
I want it to ring through the headphones when they are attached but be silent otherwise. It's embarrassing when I'm on the train and the ringer goes off.
When I was running 4.0.1 it acted as expected, but since upgrading I can't figure out how to get it to work the way I expect it to. Any suggestions?
As far as I can tell it is an issue with 4.1.1 across many AT&T phones. Not just ours. I think the only solution is to put the phone on vibrate so that you can feel when a call comes in. I don't know of any way to change the behavior in the player settings but someone on here just might.

Same with rogers telus etc too. I think 4.1 is the same across all carriers.

I had this issue as well. But the weird part is that notification and SMS comes thru the headphones. I just think it makes it pointless. You say it is 4.1 thing, but it must also be 4.2 as well. I thought it was just the ROM. Guess not

[Q] Buzz sound in camera app / recording video

I have a samsung infuse on official 2.3.6 GB. I have a problem with its camera app.
Whenever i open the camera app, there is a continuous buzz sound from the lens (not the speaker of phone) and as soon as i tap the screen (to focus) it goes away or if i shake the phone it goes away. If i change to video recording mode, the sound starts again and since the tap on screen does not work here, i have to shake the phone a bit to make the sound go away.
Is there any way to fix this ? The sound goes away when i close the camera app
Also i believe the pics are coming a bit blurry and in video, we have some lines (artifacts) going bottom to top as it is like when we point any camera to any old CRT TV we see continuous lines going due to screen refresh. Not sure i am explaining properly.
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.
Are you running with the CPU over-clocked? There was at least one other report of this issue possibly related to that.
Try dropping your max to 1200mhz to see if that helps.
Otherwise, go back to a pure stock setup.. Including kernel.. to rule out custom firmware entirely.

I have never rooted this device and never put any custom ROM in it. Always used Kies to update to GB from Froyo.
Are you suggesting me to go back to Froyo (using Odin or Hiemdell) and see if it eliminates the issue ?
I know it is a hardware related noise and mostly from lens of camera.

You could try froyo just to rule out gb, but my guess is hardware. A Google search turns up some hits on the sgs2 as well as the infuse. Forcing the camera to focus can provide temporary relief. Some have tried toggling the flash.
Replacing the part may be the best option.

Is the camera it makes sound when u turn it on reason it aligns the focus and moves the lens to get the focus and that is when is makes sounds.

So have they fixed the rubbish speaker?

Seeing as how my moto x Dev edition just broke... (Microphone just failed)
I'm thinking about the nexus 5 again.
Only if... However they've fixed that garbage quality speaker.
Can someone shed some light?

No. Same erratic build, no new 'version'.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
There was a software update for the speaker. Fixed the volume being unusually low in certain apps.
If you root the phone there are many options to increase volume and audio quality. Unrooted you can use equalizers for a small boost.
I find it loud enough to hear my ringtone in a noisy environment and clear enough to enjoy videos and music with.

I never thought the N5 speaker was garbage... better than the S3s I had in every single way.

If you are rooted then install ViPer4Android. It so dynamically changes the sound quality you will wonder what all the *****ing is about. Check for the ViPer4Android thread in the Nexus 5 themes and apps section for how to install it. In that thread is a flash file that makes things a little easier. In my opinion Google should buy ViPer4Android and make it standard. I use it on all my Android devices.

My girlfriend's HTC One Mini has much better speakers than my N5. But my screen, processor, RAM, etc. are all much better. Depends what's most important to you. You could always use headphones
Google will push new speakers through an update soon BTW read the suggestions above.
Tested audio quality with earphones and without using Google music+equalizer and I can say that audio quality is GREAT.
Honestly after reading some users complains about audio quality I excepted it worse, but like for me,a music lover,it's great. :good:
So is it possible that I got a gimped one from the first order? Way back on release week.

Some nexus 5's had really low volume on the speaker. That's why people started drilling holes in it.
