Ok, stop me if you've heard this one before (I've searched and searched to find a solution to this issue, so I appreciate any help I can get)
I recently rooted my TF101 and have been flashing different ROM's to see which one I like the best. I'm not a complete NOOB, but I've never done flashing on a tablet before. I flashed Megatron 1.6.1 and when I went to reboot I couldn't get out of recovery and it kept looping back to recovery despite my doing a complete re-wipe/flash. When I finally powered down I wasn't able to power back on.
Now the unit will not turn on, either regularly or in recovery. It's completely dead. I've been letting it sit plugged in for a while to see if that helped and still nothing. I've held the power button down in every conceivable way and for different lengths of time and still nothing.
I'm at my wits end... any help would be AMAZING!!! Thank you in advance.
Can you get into APX mode? You may want to nvflash back to stock and try again.
Sometimes the tf not really shutdown, it just freeze in black screen when we thought it already shutdown. Undock it and plug in charger to see if it charging as it might be given up totally battery drained.

I have been unable to get the unit into APX mode... when I plug it into the PC it recognizes it as a generic device but I can't do anything with it other than eject it.
I've heard about the "deep sleep" issue and I was really hoping it was something simple like that. I've left it plugged in over night and it still won't respond to anything.
Is this thing bricked? I'm used to troubleshooting issues with devices but typically if it can't even turn on there's not much that can be done. I'm fearing the WORST!!!

The battery might be drained after 2 days away. Try charge it individually first.
As the OP issue.. I fear it might be the display problem but you must be certain before judging it to hardware issue. Still best way is flashing it to stock via NVflash method when all the screen give is black. You can do it by just listening the connection sound on your PC and install the right driver for the APX to work.

i already tried nvflashing back to stock it went back to stock but the screen still wont turn on...i charged it for 12 hours still nothing.but it plays music still ...after getting pissed off,,,my wife hits the tf101 screen and then it turns on finally but the screen was orange and red... then she hit it again then i think she damaged it once more hahhaha....im pissed off too but when thinkin bout her face while hitting the tf101 EPIC hahahha...any help wanted i wanna buy new screen... attatched is the picture she sent me hahaha
Anyone come across this? I put it on standby last night after reading a bit of my book on it, and it had around 50% power remaining. This morning, it was totally unresponsive; pressing the power button does nothing at all. I've charged it for 12 hours in the meantime.
I've done the following all with and without the power attached:
- Pressed and held power for 15 seconds through to a minute
- Pressed and held volume up with power to attempt to get into recovery for up to a minute
- Pressed and held volume down with powerfor up to a minute
- Pressed and held power while touching screen (read that one off another forum)
I guess potentially it could be on and in a crashed state and unresponsive to the power, so maybe in a weeks time when it runs out of juice, I'll be able to charge it and power it back up, but in the meantime, I'd welcome suggestions.
A few weeks ago I updated it to the official ICS build that was released, but did the update myself rather than using KIES, as KIES didn't even recognise my Tab's firmware original version. It's been absolutely fine before the update, and since. I only mention it because I've read about the Samsung build of ICS being prone to self bricking itself, but I couldn't determine what the symptoms of this vulnerability were.
Thanks for any help offered,
Will
did you try connecting USB cable and plugging it into your PC? did u get any activity? can ADB recognize your tab?
I think your tab just ran out of juice and the battery's protection circuit has kicked in. Try taking it to an electronic shop and plugging in different chargers preferably one with an output more than 2.1 amps to kickstart the charging. Plug it in and wait till the charging animation starts.

Had the same problem while on holidays. Once the battery goes below a certain level, you won't be able to charge it through USB any more. Instead you need to use the wall charger.
I think it's bad enough that the 7.7 doesn't have a micro USB port, but things like that are just stupid and Samsung made a big mistake here. It don't think it's the same with the newer tablets though. It's also not possible to just buy cables or chargers for this strange Samsung port, so when you forget your wall charger at home at some point you won't be able to use your tablet any more.
As long as you charge with the USB cable early enough, you can avoid it though.
A few months ago I experienced the same thing, the Tab just wouldn't turn on anymore.
I tried all there is without any luck.
Contacted amazon and they replaced it with a new one in less than 48 hours.
So far not Problems with the new device.
I have the P6800 and this morning I took it off charge. Put it into standby and only used it for about 20 mins then left in standby all day. It had about 95% remaining when I did so.
Picked it up this evening and the lower left area of the screen was warm and it would not switch on. Didn't think of the ADB idea but will try this next time but I had to reset it and when it powered on tonight after the reset, it was down to 15%. Within about 2 mins of checking stuff it was down to 3%.
Something is running when it is in standby but as I can't switch it on I can't check with BetterBatteryStats or CPUState to know what is wrong.
It does this every day. I am tempted to do a factory reset and reinstall only limited software.
Dave...
I see this thread is a little old but this has just happened to my P6810 too. A pity nobody reported back what the end result was.
My device had at least 95% battery last night but today I can't get it to respond at all, I've tried the wall charger and still nothing.
Anything else someone could suggest for me?
Edit. I tried getting anything from it connected to my PC but it couldn't find a device there. However I then tried it on the wall charger again and now get a blue battery icon, quite big, with a five step animation indicating that it is charging.
No idea how it went flat as the battery on this lasts a long time assuming the screen isn't on. When it boots properly I'll have a look at what the most recent apps I installed were as it has only done this once. Before this it has been perfect for the three weeks I've had it.

hhmmm, interesting.
I was having trouble with wifi just before this happened. Both my GS2 and this have been claiming to connect to my wifi but aren't actually getting an IP address from it.
I can't remember if it was last night or the night before but I manually set an IP address, the signal strength is fine as my abode isn't very big.
After it has recharged I'll have a poke and see what I can find, thanks for the reply.
So my device seems to be working fine again. It had gone SO flat that the date and time were incorrect!
After I could power it on I had a look at Better Battery Stats and nothing looked wrong so I have no idea what happened. None of the apps I'd installed the day before it played up had long wakelocks and weren't running when I turned it off.
For reference they were:
My Tracks
MyTrails
Google Earth
AndSMB
I'd turned both of the GPS tracking devices off before I turned it off for the night.
It hasn't played up since but it hasn't been long so I'll see what happens.
Yeah, the sleep of death is incredibly annoying. Honestly, the GTab 7.7 is a **** device. Samsung made way too many mistakes and won't do anything to fix it.
A similar thing happens to me every once in awhile. The way i check to make sure everything alright is to see if it boots into download mode. I just leave it plugged in for a couple hours and it eventually comes back on.

this is why my 7.7 is the last tablet/phone from Samsung i'll never trust them they are just bombarding the market with new devices and leaving the old ones to dust
^thats what I thought too but that gs4 is really tempting. I've heard worse about HTC in that regard anyways so that why I'm not going with the one.
Finally.. i bought Sony xperia Z.
I'll sell my galaxy tab 7.7. I.m very disappointed with samsung.

Unbelievable! ... this trick still works ... thank you very much for you help ...
^^ yo, this 'trickle charge' trick did NOT work on my (long) dead P6800... any other suggestions??
Quite strange because my Samsung GT-P6800 tablet was fully charged, it went completely blank dark as if it was off. To my amazement, SMS keeps dropping and calls kept coming in. Yet it is still as blank as though the tab was off. I pressed the power button and the volume up bottom for it to reboot. It rebooted without the screen coming up. It has been blank for two days now. What could be the cause? And what possible solution can be given?
Dear Geeks,
I need your urgent help/advice. i'm three weeks far to my wedding and have a lot of troubles to handle, of course i need this phone.
let me describe the matter i have.
My nexus s is not booting, not starting, nothing.
what i did?
Last night, power button stopped working. I have experienced this 4-5 months ago. I don't know why, the problem has been solved by itself after few days later. i did nothing at those days. the power button came back. (as to my opinion, this is happening due to software problem) Anyway, i have used the market and installed ''fix power button'' application to use volume buttons for opening the screen.
I slept and when i woke up, i saw that phone needs to be charged but i waited. there was %11 something. i tried to handle the power button, pressed many times on it, thought that it may come back again same as 4-5 months ago it happened.
I removed battery and replaced again. i tried this many times. removed, replaced, used the usb cable via AC charger and phone started but there was no result. power button still was not working.
i thought that if the battery runs out, and then, when i charge the phone, maybe this matter may be solved. (ok this was stupid idea)
phone started to charge. when i plug the usb cable, phone was booting and displaying the google and animation and later it was ok to use.
meanwhile i keep on removing battery and replacing battery while the usb cable connected. but when phone starts to boot, i removed battery and replaced again. phone was ok, it was booting. few times it was booting.
but baaaam.
it is now not starting not booting, nothing.
now, when i replace the battery, phone is getting hot, especially sim-card area. i m removing the battery and connecting the usb. same again phone is getting hot, same sim-card area again.
i have waited enough not to connect the battery or usb charging cable. but no result.
what can i do now? what are your opinions?
my opinions/guess:
-i am using 3500 mah lithium polymere battery. maybe the battery died. i m using that battery more than 1 year, around 15 months. i dont turn off wi-fi so i m charging phone everyday.
- phone crashed during booting. and now the phone is totally brick.(i dont wanna believe this, this phone can be usable, believe me i feel it i think whatever happens, this phone can be usable via software installing or rooting... of course if you dont throw it towards a wall etc.)
by the way, my phone was not rooted. no time to root these days. and of course the phone was not starting.
what is your idea? what happened phone? what should i do?
if you reply, i will be appreciated.
A big advice for people reading this, dont remove the battery when your phone is booting.
I hope someone has a solution, since I have the same probelm...

dude, unfortunately those solutions not working on my device.
when i connect charger and i replace the battery, within seconds phone boots itself without power button. it should be this way. removing and replacing the battery helped me to start to boot.
i sense this case a bit different from that solutions.
i need to try with a different battery. my wife has nexus s also. she is very lucky she has no problems i have experienced so far. i will try with her battery.
i think there is a matter with mainboard.
by the way i forgot to say that i dropped my phone last evening. just after then phone was acting that i'm pressing long onto power button. and power button finally stopped working when i remove the battery.
i think this is happened because of dropping the phone from my belly high.
but the last thing i have done which removing the battery while the phone is booting, i wish, i should not have done. i could use it without the power button.

If you have not rooted your device, you should have you warranty, right? Take the phone back to the carrier, and tell them about your problem. o.o Sorry, I'm of no help, but you're in a horrible situation. Wanted to at least give a little help.
Same exact problem here.
2nd of August - mom's phone turned of and just would not boot or prompt at all. The modem heats up when power is turned on or connected.
Tried
The unbrickable methods (but the computer would not detect the device in any form)
A JTAG - I was able to write the recovery and bootloader - assembled the phone and it just won't boot or prompt
Need to try
Another battery to see if it solves the issue.
Removing the xOM5 resistor and converting to a development S5PC110
Tried another battery - no luck
Did the resistor removal and converted to a dev board - Unbrickable now detects the board!
trying to get the device into fastboot - will update

I had the same problem few months ago. Power button had died. While I was able to boot with remove battery and connect to charger option and I was rooted. But after a week I decided to take the phone to Samsung service center to get the power button replaced. My phone did not have warranty. Samsung took few hours to get the power button replaced and it costed me about $7. I think that's the easiest method. They did not have a stock of I9020 power button, so they fixed a I9023 power button.
Any update? I'm curious to see if you get it working. Had the same happen to my NS a few days ago and would like to see if I can get it going again so I can give it to my stepson.

I've given nexus s to samsung service. Actually, power button may be handled by replacing with new one, but with no hope, it will not come back when i read messages about mainboard failure. I will update news whenever it's possible.
we'll see.
I would like to hope it is kind of software matter.
Pls god give my nexus s back, i got extended 3500mah battery.

So with the hardware mod - instead of selecting Nexus S -> I tied the Galaxy S in unbrickable - first time I've seen the screen alive! - puts the phone into download mode and I can disconnect from the usb and it stays in download mode! .. when i tried to flash odin I get a "There is no PIT partition" error -> this ofcourse is with re-partition and bootloader update UNCHECKED
When I tried Heimdall it wouldnt let me flash without a pit file. So trying Heimdall 1.1.1 - I get Failed to Access device Error: -3
Any chance some one with an i9020T can do me a huge favor? Use Heimdall 1.3.2 - download your PIT file and upload it here?
reaching for string ends out here :/

The power button had to be replaced. I shorted the connection when ever I had to press the power button during the boot sequence. That's how I fixed mine.
Hello. yes this is my first post, however I have searched on the forums and on google, but have not found an answer.
I have a completely stock skyrocket (i727 on ATT) that I have been charging on a non-Samsung cable. The battery died (as it has many times recently) except this time I wasn't able to turn it on. it is unresponsive to any button combo I try for any period of time.
However, it is recognized in Device Manager on my 64-bit Windows 7. I downloaded the qhsusb_dload drivers from this site and installed them, however that hasn't had any effect to my knowledge. When I hold the power button while it is plugged into my computer, my computer makes the "device connected" noise. So I know the phone is operational, it just won't turn on, nor will any sort of "charging" graphic come up when it is charging.
I saw that this is a common problem, however it seemed that everyone who hard bricked their skyrocket was trying to flash other ROMs... whereas I have a stock skyrocket. So I'm not sure why the battery dying affected it thusly.
Please help! I apologize if there is an answer already somewhere else; I wasn't able to find it.
EDIT: I saw this service:
[youtube] DOT com/watch ? v= AkJQAbwZjRk
is offered, and it seemingly will unbrick it without wiping any data... so I'm not sure if I want to do that, when I can have it repaired for free by Samsung. (the only catch is they will wipe EVERYTHING-- like an idiot, I've NEVER backed it up.)
Want to know the easiest way to make sure all questions are asked in General? Have a separate Q&A forum.
Are you sure your battery's fully charged? If so, are you sure your screen's not dead? If you haven't modded it at all, it might not be worth your time to fix it. Warranty it out.

If a mod could move this that would be fantastic.... >.<
Yes, because it won't actually register in Kies, and the buttons don't light up, nor does the phone make the turning on noise or vibrate.
First off, are you sure it's not just a dead battery? Second, have you tried putting it into download mode to see what happens?
Honestly, I'd just warranty it out if you can't get the screen to come up in download mode. It's probably hardware.

I'm not exactly clear on what download mode is... However I tried it with another battery, and since my computer reacts to my hitting the power button when they're connected, I don't think that's the issue.
I think that that is what I'll end up having to do... I just really hate to lose all my data.... :'(

Hey there,
I have read these forums for a while but this is my first reply.
I am having the exact same problem as the original poster. I was browsing the internet at night while plugged in and the phone started becoming sluggish. It soon turned off and the battery charging screen turned on and showed I had ~50% battery, i pushed the power button and got the rogers splashscreen but then it would go back to the battery charging screen again. I did that cycle a few times before forgetting about it and going to bed. The next morning my phone was not responsive to the power button and the screen has been black ever since.
I have tried taking out the battery, removing the case and unplugging/replugging the light blue cable that runs along the side of the case and I borrowed a friend's battery who also has the same phone and carrier as me and it still would not work.
My phone is stock everything, i usually charge with a non-samsung power adapter/cord. I am with Rogers using the Galaxy S2 LTE phone and unfortunately out of warranty by 1 month. When plugged into the computer, Windows makes a sound as if something is connected and holding down the power button makes that sound happen about 1-2 times per second. Device manager shows an unknown USB device and unknown communications device. Kies however does not show a device connected when plugged into the computer.
I believe the OP sent theirs back to get fixed by AT&T however in my case it would involve extending my contract with Rogers by 1 year in addition to an unknow repair fee which is something I would not like to do if possible. I also unfortunately did not back up my files/photos and would prefer not to have them deleted but would be okay with having them wiped if necessary.
Any advice on the best course of action when the phone is not under warranty would be great.
You can try jtag, but you might have a different problem than it can fix. Check out mobiletechvideos.

Smittie was referring to the second poster.
Have either of you tried using the cable that shipped with your phones? Plug those puppies in to the phone, and the WALL SOCKET, give em about 12 hours and I'm close to willing to betcha that you will have a live device once again. Some times plugging into the computer shows charging, but does not provide enough voltage to actually charge but maintain the battery level.
It just sounds to me more like the devices are being under powered at the moment. Even though your computers may "see" the devices, they may even show they are charged or charging, resetting the battery stats could show more detail. I would however at this time also recommend to not use the ADB, or ever EVER rely on Kies.

He was vague on the details. Didn't even specify and he tried to troll me. Either way its just a misunderstanding , mostly on his part for not asking for clarification and just assuming. Naturally I was referring to the op.

Naturally you'd refer to a 4 month old OP instead of reading the posts that are more recent. Naturally. LOL Reading is fundamental.

Even still, the obvious choice is to contact the manufacturer or carrier. Doesn't matter how old. Goes for both users. So shove it lol
Something really strange happened.
Yesterday, when i was using my tf700, everything was fine. i connected the tf700 to my computer and dragged couple movies in to watch later. Batter was around 30% so i plugged into a wall charge to charge so i can use later. after half an hour, went back and tried using it. it won't turn on! tried connecting it to my computer, my computer can't recognize it. Tried connecting to the wall charge, the charge light didn't turn orange. Tried using my tf300 cable to see if it's cable issue, still no luck. Tried using reset button on top of HDMI port, no luck. Tried volume down or volume up plus power to reboot, no luck. I think it's dead....Only had it for a year..
Worst of all, it's unlocked, rooted to a custom ROM. So no warranty. I tried googling and searching on XDA, not that many people encountered this issue. Any luck on saving it?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!

It looks like your battery on your device totally drain and either your charger or cable or your tab connector is bad so your device can't be charged. If you can narrow down the issue, then you can get helps faster.. Good luck...:fingers-crossed:

Thanks LetMeKnow for the quick response. I'm pretty sure it's not the cable or the charger because i tested with my TF300 cable and charger. But how can i tell if it's the connector?
Thanks!
Mine did the exact same thing. It is just completely dead. I'm totally at a loss as to what to do. Anyone know of a way to force this thing to wake up?

Same issue here. Just charged mine up(yes it charges), but it will not turn on. It had been sitting for a while so I assumed it just needed a charge. Fully charged until light went green. Tablet will not do anything.

You could give this a shot...
Hold both power button + volume up for about 10 seconds. You should feel a first vibration and continue holding them until you feel the second vibration. As soon as you feel the second vibration, you need to release the volume up button and keep holding the power button until you feel the third vibration and release the power button.. At this point, your device should boot into your system..
You may want to try a few times for it to work..good luck and please report back..:fingers-crossed:

Yeah I've tried that and the reset button, but get no vibrations. I guess I'll wait for the battery to full discharge again and then see if it will work. Otherwise I guess I'm SOL. No idea what happened.
I tried letting it sit unplugged for a couple of days to completely discharge the battery and then plugged it in to let it charge. No lights, no vibrations• nothing. I'm giving up ans just ordered a Samsung Note Tablet 10.1 2014 Edition, 32GB. When I get it I'll root it so I can use Titanium Backup to restore my data files. I never planned on this tablet just dying like this. It's only a little over a year old. I was thinking of upgrading to Asus's new TF701 but I'm done with them.
Good luck with yours. Hope it springs to life for you.

This is by far the worst Asus experience i ever had. I used to buy their products quite a bit, and i am completely disappointed in their products now. They create a tablet so slow that is almost usable so many users to need unlock and install custom ROMs. Therefore, void the warranty. Then provide such bad quality that it fails not even after 1 full year. (1 week till a year) Then is going to charge me $300 to have them fix it. I can buy a new one for that price.
Anybody out there as frustrated with Asus products as I am?
