Is is possible to do this? i currently have a stock jb infinity but would gladly root and unlock if there is this option
would any one know?
I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...29tLmdvb2Rtb29kZHJvaWQuZ2VzdHVyZWNvbnRyb2wiXQ..
Only gestures I use are for status bar hiding and back (mainly when in fullscreen). He has another app that appears to just hide the status bar, but not the best reviews onit.
There is a built in feature in CM10.1 for this. CM is still in the Nightly stage, though.
The feature is demonstrated for the TF300 running CM10.1 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5ZJW6OLLVY&feature=youtu.be&t=23m55s
It works just the same on the TF700T
I wowould rather not get cm10 cause i don't like the ui it has. Paranoid android seems better
And those gesture controls look sick! Is there anyway to get root on jelly bean?? I would do it in a heartbeat

There are a couple of methods to get root on JB. They can all be found in this forum.

on that forum i can only find that if you are on jb then you have to go through the bootloader to get root, is there any other option? i do not wish to unlock my device just yet and i know you don't need to for rooting so is there anyway to do it for jelly bean without unlocking it?
You can downgrade to the .30 ICS version, root the device using for example the debugfs method, use OTA Rootkeeper, upgrade to JB again and restore your root with OTA Rootkeeper. It doesn't seem to be working for everybody, but I believe that's the only way to do it without unlocking the bootloader.
sweet i might just do that then. i cant find the us .30 ics on the website, where can i get it

all done, aw thats a nice sight to behold. now i got another question lol.
whenever i pick a wallpaper it either turns black for a regular one or if i use simple image to set it as a full wallpaper it stays there but i have this weird black line on the bottom. its not as big as the navigation bar, maybe like half that but i cant seem to get rid of it. also some wallpapers are not showing up in teh gallery even if i can see them in the file manager
On CleanROM or stock ROM I had the same issues when I hid the nav-bar and notificationbar. Unsure what's causing it.

It's the way Asus implement their framework. They are not expecting the system bar to be hidden. However I have been testing full!screen with CROMI 3.4 and it appears to work fine
hmmm. that is quite weird
Another small question. If I factory reset now with jelly bean and rooted, will it keep the root or will i have go back to ics and do it all over again?

It shouldn't touch your system. You will lose all you play store apps, settings and data though.

Alright thanks for that. I have been having some issues and was wondering if I did a factory reset would help but i also did not want to lose root. Would I need to download rootkeeper or should it be fine without anything else?

You need to download OTA rootkeeper. After factory reset, you will need to redownload supersu and OTA rootkeeper then restore root.

Honest ive been searching for an hour, how do i stop the update from happening. Not permanently, hopefully like blocking the update app with Titanium like i did on my Galaxy S3. Also, the location of the already downloaded file so i can delete it. Thanks
Honestly!!?? Is this really that dumb of a question? I honestly still cant find how to block the JB update. Please anybody?
I would love to know that too. I really don't want to hit the update by mistake...
Honestly, just make sure you honestly don't click the update button. Honestly that's all there honestly is to it...honest!
Honestly
The update file (dlpkgfile) is in the/cache/ folder.
And I don't know if this will stop the OTA or if this will completely F up your device but the Dmclient (or is it cmclient) system app can probably be disabled. It handles the OTA's
After some research I found that renaming otacerts.zip (in /system/etc/security/) with a .bak at the end could prevent the update to start but the notification is still here.
I tried to stop the Firmware Update Utility in app manager, even by renaming it with a .bak in /system/app/ . The notification is still here, but it seems that the popping window is not showing. Time will tell.
I saw somewhere that renaming the fingerprint line in build.prop woud work, luring the update into thinking the firmware is already up to date, but since I never touched this file (android newbie here!) I will wait for someone more experienced in modifying that kind of things...
If you are rooted, edit your build.prop (back up your original) and then tell the tablet to update. The update will fail (red triangle) and will reboot into ICS. The notification should go away and you will have to update manually.
Ok but what to edit in build.prop?

Check this thread in the development section. There is a tweaked build.prop that I used before my upgrade. That is what caused my OTA update to fail. BE sure to use the correct file and back up your current build.prop.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641219
Yes !
I didn't actually changed the whole build.prop, but I downloaded the stock JB build.prop to take the fingerprint line.
So, after a backup of my build.prop, I changed this line :
ro.build.fingerprint=asus/WW_epad/EeePad:4.0.3/IML74K/WW_epad-9.4.3.30-20120604:user/release-keys
With this one :
ro.build.fingerprint=asus/WW_epad/EeePad:4.1.1/JRO03C/WW_epad-10.4.2.9-20120809:user/release-keys
And now, no more notification, after a reboot and a failed install of JB.
Thank you !

ok guys this does work, first remove the update file, then use a root system app freezer and freeze dmclient, reboot, if this does not work, unfreeze dmclient, then change your build.prop to show the blueprint of your asus tf300t or tf300tg tablet on jelly bean, reboot, then freeze dmclient, reboot, and that will remove any chances of getting an OTA or accidentally messing up the device, after this change your build.prop back to original state, reboot, and everything will be gone.
note i have tested the second method, and its working perfectly, no glitches, no FC's

with my previous returned tf300: after i turned it on the first time it downloaded the ICS .30 firmware and asked me to update, i installed it. then i was curious why it did not download the JB update, so i went to check update manually, it started downloading the jb update and i had to update to jb. after a few days because of hardware problem i returned it.
my new tf300 came yesterday, and the same thing above happened, i updated to ICS .30, now i try to remind myself to not accidentally manually check for update, sounds weird, right? i see cmclient and dmclient always running but it never knows that there's a update lol. and i usually don't go to about tablet so i guess i won't do manual update accidentally.

Does your stock email app work now? After freezing the DM client the stock email app gets stuck at waiting for sync.
Nevermind. I defrosted the dmclient and email still didnt work. So I rebooted. Saw the update again. So I refroze dmclient, then restored my email app and data in titanium and that fixed it.

I'm curious as to how much RAM your tablet is using after a cold boot in balanced or perf mode.
Mine stays between 579 and 654mb no matter what.
Haven't had a crash or a freeze since the first 3 days of ownership.
Well that's a lie...I had a lot of freezes and crashing with sygic and earlier editions of some browsers.

I thought it was just me. I've been playing The Bard's Tale on it and got the update the same night. I, too, have noticed random reboots where the game will freeze, and then 5 seconds later the tablet is rebooting. I honestly thought it was the game, but since you're saying it happens to you on Performance mode only, and that is exactly where I am as when I am playing the game, maybe it is performance mode and not hte game causing mine as well.
if that is the case, chalk me up for these random reboots as well.

Might not be a bad idea. But a full install won't allow us to use root keeper methods, so we'd then have to wait for a new root method, right?
I'll deal with the idiosyncrasies until i can root JB and then "blob" my pad (I've been dying to say that, can't you tell?).

To root a JB locked bootloader=NO, but for unlocked bootloader=YES. Another way to solve the reboot/screen issue and keep root is to downgrade to .30 (full version), root, then OTA root keeper to save root then let the JB OTA upgrade back to JB, then restore root.

What's the point of doing this? I was already on .30 to begin with, ran Debugfs rooted .30 and OTA rootkeeper backed up, and I got the OTA update from JB a week later, which had the SOD issue. Why downgrade and upgrade?

The point is it's going to solve your random reboot/blank screen issue. Most of people did exactly what you did included myself, but once you are on JB and experiencing reboot and blank screen, you need to reflash because the install did not done correctly some how. If you reflash a full version of JB, it will fixed the issue but then you don't have root, this is not a problem if you're unlocked. So if you still have locked bootloader, you need to downgrade with full version of .30 then re root. when you install a full version it automatically wipe for you so you don't need to wipe before downgrade. Once you have a fresh install of .30, now you can use OTA to upgrade to JB and keeping root.
Ah gotcha. Well in this case, I might as well just unlock my bootloader and flash [ROM][10/3][JB4.1.1] - Stock Root Odex / De-Odex - 10.4.4.16 Base since it's stock based minus bloatware?

Sure you could do that, but I'm waiting for Zeus Rom. This rom is amazing with I/O.
Actually, could the problem be the idle clock speed? I don't recall the TF700 having a 51mhz speed. I thought lowest multiplier was 102mhz. Perhaps that's why it is freezing/sod
I'm gonna raise my min clock speed at 102mhz and see if it freezes any more

Without knowing why, your best option is to download the HD utility and restore your phone to compete stock. There is something not passing the update check and if you aren't sure what the utility will get your phone where it needs to be.

My G3 has 5.0.1 and I have rooted it. Nothing more.
I got notification of the latest update, which had VoLTE, something about Uber (which is already in my bloatware) and something else.
I have only rooted this phone, however while I was searching around on xda to see if anyone else has gone through this update with root, I found a 1-line fix to disable authentication on WiFi tether. I did that, and then some time later I got a pop-up saying my phone is suspected of being rooted, so the update would be disabled. I then reversed the WiFi tether change, and checked for update and it _seems_ like it is ready to do the update.
But, has anyone out there gone through this update while rooted? Did that work and you only had to root again?
Or do I have to un-root?

I'm in the exact same boat as you. Can't finish the update due to being rooted before. Even if you factory reset it will still say you're suspected of rooting.

Btw don't use that unroot link just yet. I need to confirm and read around before finding out if it's a viable method for our situation yet.

To be specific about "un-root".
You don't mean that you simply unrooted via SuperSU, do you? I assume you actually restored back to stock KitKat 10d, correct? And then took the OTA update straight to 21l, correct?
(And where can you tell the phone to check for updates again? or did you just wait for it to pop up in the notification area?)
Thanks

Yup I just had to go through all this as well. Luckily it all went smoothly and my phone is back up to spec and loaded the way I use it daily. Took about 12 hours of deliberate effort though haha. I guess I never really knew how much stuff I had on the phone and how much time goes into editing settings and logging into everything. Anyways UltraSuper you're right. Had to use the link I posted above using LG Flash Tool and go back to kit kat then you can upgrade easily to 21l, LG one click root, use AutoRec to flash TWRP then do your first backup just in case something goes south but it's doubtful. My phone is stable as it was out of the box.

To be honest I went through the whole process and I'll probably never use volte. I did it more just to have a clean start. I've been flashing like crazy and things were starting to get buggy. If things are running smooth for you I don't see the value in it unless you're planning on using volte.

VoLTE. That is the only notable thing about the update. A couple of pieces of bloat are in there as well. VoLTE is still new and not available everywhere yet and is only able to be used by a select few models of phones. Read up on it and decide. I personally do not see the need for the hassle atm so will wait until another day.
I have a rooted Verizon device that is running stock 4.1.2, since I have the unlimited data and use the free hotspot toggle.
Well, almost none of the current apps works with my phone anymore, its getting very frustrating. I'd like to unroot my phone and just get to the most recent software, then buy Foxfi for the hotspot...will that work?
Is there a better option? Can I upgrade the software without unrooting ?

I see foxfi hasn't been updated in the play store in nearly 3 years. Some roms have the Hotspot feature built in as far as what roms have it built in, as far as newer roms that much I don't know. I'm running the last build of CleanRom and its built in.
I understand a lot of apps currently require a newer version of Android to run. My suggestion would be to check out the development forums for the VZW S3 and see which roms have it built in rather than having to buy the app itself

Of course. I hardly ever run stock on any of my devices. I think my N6 is the only one but it's customized. CleanRom is on version 4.3 I'm not sure about AllianceRom which I also have uploaded to my AFH account

I'll also chime in. If OP is looking to update his phone, there are 2 paths. The stock path, which will be up to KitKat based roms (android 4.4) because that was the last update the S3 ever received. You could install something like superliterom (found in our android developement thread). But from your needs (hotspot, and camera) you can go all the way on to marshmallow (android 6) using CM13 which is what I'm running. The only bugs now are bluetooth (it may crash if you're playing music through bluetooth and receiving a call through bluetooth like in a car for example), gps is slow to lock (which is a problem is most of the CM roms), and some minor front camera bugs ie. instagram will crash, but every other camera and video camera/video calling app will work that I've tried. If I was in your shoes, I would try CM13 to see if you like it, and then bounce down from there to a 4.4 or 4.3 rom as a solid 2nd or third choice. I went from cleanrom, to alliance 4.3, to cm12.1 (I could never get gps to lock on this, but everything else worked), to cm13. They are all solid. Even something like slimkat 4.4 has pretty good reviews. But don't ever take the OTA update...there is no point in that now besides locking your phone forever and limiting the usability of your phone.
I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question, but if I install cm13 will I lose all my text messages, emails, app settings, etc.??

Yes. I wouldn't suggest updating to a newer rom without wiping the internal storage. You could always backup text messages. Emails automatically save to the Gmail app and the app settings well that can't be recovered but you could always set it the way it was previously

Correct. You can use third party apps as well. I've been using one for years and it catches call logs also

Ok, so I've downloaded "Oct-M-R1-6.0.1 for d2vzw", the MD5 checksum, and "open_gapps-arm-6.0-stock-20160806".
I have just installed TWRP 3.0.2 on my device and it appears to be working.
Now what?
Put the files onto my microsd or onto my phone storage?
Install from TWRP and that's it?
I have titanium backup, should I run that first? OR is there a backup option from twrp??
VERY specific directions would be appreciated! Thanks LOL
PS - One last thing, what developer options need to be checked or unchecked if any in my phone settings.

In developer options you really only need to enable USB debugging.
As far as installing the rom putting it on your SD card should be efficient or once in TWRP you can mount the internal and move it into there if connected to a pc. As far as installing it's pretty straight forward.
Wipe internal completely but DO NOT wipe your SD card. Install the zip first then gapps and ensure you wipe cache and dalvik. Once done reboot and let the device sit for about 10 minutes without touching it to let the rom settle down, once done just reinstall everything. I do not recommend to install apps via titanium backup (i.e. Data for those apps) anymore questions feel free to ask

Ok, I started the process. Did my backup from twrp and then installed the zip from my sd and gapp at same time...phone has been in a boot loop for about an hour....every now and then it says "Android Starting - optimizing apps", then starting apps....should i just keep waiting or redo it???

The rom may of not played well with the device. I installed lollipop on my S3 and it was quite slow. I'd say restore the backup but you can try installing it again but I forewarn you that it may just not work at all

Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I restored my version, worked fine...then tried again and got boot loop again...back to my 4.1.2 for now until I can figure it out. Second time I went into advanced and wiped the system, too...didn't help.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated....could I have a bad zip file?
I came across this link https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d2vzw , which should I download? What's the difference between all of these versions? Nightly vs. Snapshot vs. Stable? Also, what is the "Release" and the "Recovery"
