Anyone? Everything I've read said kies mucks things up. Personally I'm a Odin fan. Looks easier and doesn't take space on my laptop.

haven't used it yet. always used odin.
I have used odin as well as kies.
Never had any issues.. infact, just used kies last night for a software update and worked like a charm.
If you want to remain stock through out then kies is not bad but if you are a power user / techie then you wud prefer odin over kies...

back in the old days when i was a noob, say around the spring of 2012
I used Kies once when an ICS leak first came out. I got stuck in a boot loop for using an old version of CWM. Kies emergency download mode saved me by letting me flash stock back on.

I've used both for going back to stock but I found if you use Lies to go back to stock and then you do OTA to I727UCLI3 Kies won't recognize your phone. I now stick with just Odin.

yes I 2 has used both, must agree that Kies does at times f----up, but I did use it for this update to 4.1.2 without an issue......dill

Ok had a Sidekick 4G rooted and custom rom installed and I sold it to a friend. Well they took it to a T-Mobile store and the guy factory reset it (for what reason idk) and she told me the phone would come back on.. I tried entering CWM recovery and was able to but the phone stays stuck on the boot screen everytime I try to reboot it and the only way to turn it off is to do a battery pull..
Can anyone help me fix this problem like asap please? Thanks for any and all help..

Interesting, I have never seen that but thats not really saying much. when you tried to flash in odin was your battery placed back into phone after going into download mode? can you give any more details as to what you have tried? That way ppl could give you better ideas as to fix.
Just make sure you're battery is in and you'll be fine. If it isn't working then let us know where the flash is getting stuck at.

I saw this when I first flashed CWM after taking the GB OTA.
What worked for me was to use another USB port on my PC. After the drivers installed, I was able to successfully flash CWM with Odin.

Like many times before i used the one click odin root to root my phone. This time as soon as it started, it failed. Now my phone boots straight to this screen:
Odin Mode
Product name: SGHI727
Custom Binary Download : No
Current Binary: Samsung official
cell phone pic----------------------exclamtion triangle pic---------------------computer pic
Firmware upgrade encountered
as issue. Please select
recovery mode in kies and try again.
I used odin to try and flash again, i used one click flash, and I reinstalled all my drivers, checked my usb connection and even tried a different computer. I cannot restore my phone. I was on stock ginger bread but not sure which one.
I go into download mode manually, i slect up, and i get back to the same screen as on top w no result.
Help plz. $20.00 donation to who can help me crack this...i really need it fixed, thx.
I also tried to use klies. it didnt work. computer does read the phone as the yellow shows on odin. But everytime i try to flash something it starts, then fails.

Can you still transfer stuff over Odin, or is your computer not picking it up at all?
Also, are you using Desktops or Laptops to Odin?

Hey guys, I'm new to the flashing scene so bare with me. Not to long ago I flashed my Infuse 4g device from gingerbread to ics, which for some reason made my recovery mode half disorientated (with weird colors)and half visible. Yet, difficult I was still able to maneuver and flash some tweaks here and there. However, I've now moved on to JellyBean, but now my entire recovery mode screen is disorientated (with weird colors) What should I do now?
You need the Gingerbread boot loaders to make it correct.
Check this thread by qkster.

Just bear the fact that you are at risk of hard bricking your infuse when you are flashing Gingerbread bootloaders.

If you can successfully flash other items in Heimdall or Odin, it's really not that big of a deal. The Gingerbread Kies update and the prezreket UCLB3 leak also update the bootloaders. Just don't interrupt the flash. Crinkypops is correct, though, that a failed bootloader flash is about the only way to really brick an Infuse. So double check that you can flash other items using your chosen software. If you can, go for the bootloaders and don't let your dog or kid disconnect the USB cable for the few seconds it takes to flash.

Thank you guys so much, I was able to flash the bootloader using odin (because I don't trust myself using Heimdall yet) nonetheless, I'm happy that I can see my recovery mode screen now and all thanks to the XDA community.
