[Q] hibernation mode? - Asus Transformer TF700

I was wondering if there is a way to put my tf700 tablet in hibernation mode so I can basically completely turn the tablet off or hibernate it with minimal battery and electronic usage and then quickly boot it up again? my question is similar to the thread linked below. I have a custom carrying case for my tablet and although it works really well, it holds my tablet right on top of my spine which I can only imagine how the emf is affecting my nervous system in that area. I would like to be able to minimze emf on my tablet when im holding it on my back without having to turn it completely off because it takes forever to turn on. please let me know if you guys know of an app or way to do this

Set wifi off when the tablet goes into screen off low power.
Turn GPS off too.

thanks for the suggestion. would anyone with a geiger counter maybe check the emf coming off of a tf700 with wifi off, gps off, basically everything off except the actual device? that would be awesome. im pretty paranoid when it comes to emf ha

Well if your located in the US the meters are cheap like the one above.
I have a microwave oven RF leakage meter from a former job that I got for around 10 bucks.
Or you could put RF shielding foil in your backpack if your really serious about this.

I don't think that turning wifi off changes the level of radioactivity of the TF700.

I doubt anything changes the level of radioactivity! It's clearly not radioactive. A geiger counter will just register background radiation.....
Anyway - once the tab is sleeping it is doing that unless something wakes it. After a period of time it will go into a deep sleep.

Today's devices hardly emit anything dangerous.
Just walking outside bombards us with emissions from so many sources.
Stay away from airports, cell towers, wifi routers, police\fire vehicles, plasma tvs, microwave ovens, nuclear power plants, other people on mobile phones...

How do you know?
But a geiger counter would be a nice addition to the built-in sensors - measure motion, light, magnetism, and now also *radiation* with your mobile device! Maybe a new product idea for eastern Japan... :cyclops:

How do I know? It's obvious. Well I majored in physics but other than that background it doesn't contain any radioactive materials..... All substances emit some degree of radioactivity but not at the levels that are in any way dangerous.
Funnily enough when I was in Japan last month they now sell add on geiger counters for iphones.... Didn't see any for androids though

I have done a quick look up on 'bioenergetics' which is what the op is concerned about. It is a philosophy not a science and I do not believe he needs to be concerned with how the transformer handles electro magnetic field radiation if he turns off all radios and puts the device to sleep with auto sync turned off as it will enter a deep sleep soon enough.
I also think he is blasted with more emf radiation daily just being alive and can't avoid it. My advice is buy a gauss meter, take some readings and come back with actual facts to support your theory.
He has also confused radiation with radioactivity. You don't heed a geiger counter you need a gauss meter.

Does your Raphael heat up while talking?

I have noticed a major heating sometimes when making a phonecall, and I mean it becomes really hot...
Im not using the GPS what seems to be causing overheating to some users.
also please post your radioversion etc if you have this type of problems...
Make sure you don't hold the phone near where the battery is. If you look at the manual you will be exposed to dangerously high radiation levels! If you cover it with your finger or hand the phone module goes into high power mode which could account for the heat problem.
Well yes I did some investigating and it does not happen always. I think it could be happening when taking a phone call after charging. By this I don’t mean it’s hot when unplugging the device, it keeps getting hotter and hotter while speaking.

What, my package and manual are put away. Sorry, I didn’t understand 100%, where I can’t place my finger exactly?
I looked at the manual and did not find anything unusual… What did you mean?
There is a wiki nearby, with links to the on-line manuals
(the part below the battery is where the antenna is )
Ok now that you said antenna I found the part from the manual, if you look at the previous post he says only don’t hold your finger near the battery…. The battery is ½ of the phone…
But seriously am I the only one that thinks this is TOTALLY crazy that if you hold your phone normally from the bottom half you will be exposed to DANGEROUS LEVELS OF RADIATION??? I have had mobiles for 15 years and this is the first one that cant be held in your hand without looking how you hold it…
Are others also experiencing overheating sometimes?
Yep, I said 'battery' - if you look at the picture in the manual (page 10 - see attachment below). The danger zone is bottom 1/3 of the back surface area.
As far as i'm concerned this device should not have had certification and approval for use because NORMAL handling includes the bottom part of the phone. They expect you to be at least 1.5cm away from it too so in practical terms it is extremely difficult and inconvenient to hold. If you hold the top part your palm will cover or get near the bottom anyway so their constraint is ridiculous.
I wasn't aware of this when I first used the phone and I remember my fingers getting hot with a sharp pain.
This device should therefore NOT have safety approval because the context of operation does not include normal and reasonable handling.
So you have to ask yourself: is the HTC Touch Pro worth getting cancer over?
Yes I found that page after I searched the manual "antenna"... That just sounds crazy to me...
But still I don’t know did the SERIOUS overheating I had resulted from that. I couldn’t replicate it... It could be it was caused by the charging before I answered.
I have to pay more attention to that, because I think I had it happen before also.
excuse me, topspeclt, but if you are that worried, why do you use a mobile phone
The top of the phone got really hot. The steel around the camera lens was so hot I could not keep my finger over it… I don’t know, am I the only one experiencing this type of behaviour?

I used a Nokia N73 prior to this and no probs. So I'm in for a little dosage. But the handling contraint with the TP is a joke. I end up using the headset now because I can't maintain the ridiculous holding position without receiving hazardous SAR levels.
My observation is one that affects ALL users of the HTC TP and not necessarily other brands.
Had I known this BEFORE I bought the HTC TP I would have skipped it. Damn good for nothing 'Reviewers'.

That doesn't sound right at all. My TP doesn't get that hot. You might want to swap it (if you can) or call HTC support.
I have to duplicate it and see when exactly it happens…
I’ve noticed it happening few times, but didn’t pay that much attention to it because I use the HF when I’m not home. I started to use that a year ago when there was more talk about the radiation. I talk about 2hrs a day, so the tumours are probably on their way already. Its much more convenient anyway to use the HF.
I got full warranty so I will chance the device when I have confirmed this.
I have to say also that I came from Kaiser WAY too soon… I should have given the real cooks and wizards of XDA few months to find and fix the major bugs for HTC (mind you, they are doing it for FREE to them). I just got a too good of a deal; I got this device almost for the price of my old Kaiser.
No one is experiencing heating around the camera flash/lens area when talking?
Plase confirm so I know do I need to return the device.
I have the same problem sometimes. But it is not conected to making phonecalls. I expreienced this temperture phenomen while browsig the web (wifi) and I think some other situations.
I'll keep an eye on that problem and let you know when it happens again.
I had this problem with my xda orbit 2 as well (when using tomtom while the phoen was plugged in for chargching)

Perhaps a visit to HTC service centre?
I haven't had this extreme heating yet.
The TP becomes warm while charging, GPS use, Wifi, and even calls, but not to that extend that you can burn your fingers on the lense area.
I think your TP has a hardware problem.

My first TP have battery problem and really heat up at the camera metal area when using call/apps. I got a replacement and the new unit don't heat up so fast or so much.
First of all, I don't think that you can possibly expose yourself to any dangerous levels of radiation, no matter how you hold your TP. The SAR tests are done anyway with maximum transmit power, so if you hold your phone from the bottom part and so impair the reception the phone gets, you can only get the official specified SAR levels at most. It does increase battery usage (hence not recommended), as the phone needs to use more transmit power, but the SAR levels are definitely safe - always at or below spec. The design were the phone antenna is at the bottom of the phone is actually very advantageous from SAR point of view, because the antenna element is further away from your brain --> less radiation. However, I do agree that for best reception (holding the phone from the upper part) the handling of the phone is a bit awkward. HTC probably just put the "dangerous levels of radiation" warning there to keep off any possible Americans waiting to sue their a**
Also, looking at the back part of my TP, it seems that the Wifi and GPS antennas are at the top of the phone, so getting hot around the camera lens/upper area while using these features should be expected. Again, I think this is actually quite a good setup, as the phone and wifi/gps antennas are as far away from each other as possible, thus interference between different antennas is kept minimal.
Oh yeah, and you should definitely not burn your fingers on your phone, there's something wrong if you really did (it can get quite warm, but not that hot).
Just my 0.02
My TP aint that warm, but it does get a little warm when playing games but not hot, only a bit warm.

Uninstall the car app (u can use Titanium Backup Pro to do that) and use a 3rd party car app from the Market (or get a non-magnetic holster).

happened to me last night at the gym... it kept going into car mode, and finally I came to the conclusion it was the magnetic snap on the holster... I have been looking for a fix all day and have been messing with/looking for a particular setting.. might be that the car dock activates car mode when a magnet is detected within phones proximity, if thats the case, I doubt there is a way to turn it off.

Glad I found this thread because I thought I was going insane. I bought a cheap little leather holster at Five Below that has a magnetic clasp (like a Blackberry case) and My G2x was constantly going into carMode as well. I don't want freeze or remove carMode app, but I'd like to find a fix that doesn't have it pop on in my holster.
Look for apps like Dock Blocker, NoDock, Dock No-Op, etc. in the market. I am using Spider Launcher and it works reasonably well and has more uses than just avoiding Car Home.
Be wary of magnets & battery!
I have a friend who had a Droid (original), which also used the presence of a magnet to go into car mode. His battery life started going down the tubes when he got a magnetic-closure type holster for it (this was before he/we figured out what was going on).
However, he also experienced some MAJOR issues with his battery not long after. Meaning the battery would seem to do ok until about 40%, then start dropping like crazy. Juiceplotter would show it going from 20% to 5% in 30 minutes, no reporting by android in between, etc.
I didn't research it TOO much (wasn't my phone heh), but a cursory search showed some people had issues with magnetic cases and their batteries going to hell. I'm assuming that the magnet in the car dock is very weak and in just the right spot to trigger the car app, but a magnetic case (unless made FOR the G2X BY LG, so they would know about the issue and where to place the magnet) might end up having some effect on your battery. Or it might not. I'm no expert, but just check out the potential battery issues if you stick with a magnetic case.

Blackberry's have had magnetic cases for years and have been very reliable. I don't know if the magnet would have an adverse affect on the battery itself. The magnet could affect the cell phone's antenna and thus attenuate the signal so that the phone has to increase power to stay in contact with the tower. And although the battery may drain quicker because of that, it wouldn't make it a long term problem unless you consider faster power drain cause the battery to wear out quicker. Good to know and a good experiment to try with the "Battery Monitor Widget".
exact problem
read this and done a little testing. it seems the sensor is to the right of the camera (if you are looking that the phone's back vertically) or at where the hour digit is displayed on the lock screen. magnet clasps should not be a problem by theory if you don't put that part of the phone there and the magnets are relatively weak.
Strange cause I have a heavy earth magnet and went all around it and got nothing. I THOUGHT I did this on stock but it could have been cm7.
I now my blackberry uses magnets and it is actually a nice feature TO TURN THE SCREEN ON but not to launch a program.
If this is true perhaps someone can change the behavior.

WiFi & Battary life

Hi,
When I leave my asus transformer on stand-by overnight for about 10 hours with the WiFi setting "when screen turns off" my battery has drained from 100% to 67%.
I am not sure. But is this normal for other users? Is there a way I can fix this and/or improve battery life?
FYI:
- I am running Honeycomb 3.2 stock
- I can't root because I am running a B70 model that is unrootable at the moment
Thank you for your assistance
go to settings about tablet battery usage and take a screenshot then we can tell you what's up
Sorry for off topic but what models are rootable?

In a land far far away there lived a 3 gnomes. Their names were "Google", "Bing" and "Search". They were lonely gnomes because they had been created by the almighty Internetz and his/her son/daughter XDA. They felt rather than have n00bs fumble and bumble around in the dark they would create these gnomes to lead the n00bs to the light. They broadcast around the lands in loud voices and sent messages to the far corners of the land..."Please use these handy gnomes we have created for you to help with your knowledge". But the the people were unable to use these gnomes to the best of their ability and left random piles of notes to each other that soon clogged up the pathways and led to traffic jams. Soon fires broke across the land as the massive piles of notes became consumed with the flames of the brave and mighty who insisted that these tools should be used. They ignored the outcries of the n00bs and continued the flames until the piles of messages had been burned and the pathways were once again clear for those who sought knowledge.

Download auto airplane mode from the market (by DON). Install it, run it, start the service and now when you close the lid it will put the tablet in airplane mode and therefore you shouldn't have any rogue applications trying to use WIFI. This is a good work around when the WIFI option isn't working.

How much pressure can a screen take? Can I rest my head on it?

Not as weird as it may seem
At night I listen to music/radio while I go to sleep. I use a cheap phone at the moment but was thinking about getting a 2012 Nexus 7 that I can use for this (and actually use it as a tablet as well)
Will it be okay if it's under my pillows or will the weight/pressure damage the screen?
Thanks in advance :good:

Ha ha... That is really a funny question. But it should be answered. It won't damage your phone unless you move the pillow below your head above your tablet. Use a good cushioned pillow though.
And yes, do turn the airplane mode on. Radiations are not good for your brain. (I'm not expecting more such questions :laugh Just kidding brother.
Ohhh God. Why are we discussing about it? Doesn't it come with Gorilla Glass?
Probably you will have to worry not tossing the phone down to the floor while you sleep.
why you just don't do that and but your phone beside your below
Just buy a quality pillow speaker , then you dont have to worry about getting tangled up in headphones cables aswell
I really wouldn't worry about it for clarifications sake and a technical answer to your questions your main concerns would come from the stress your head would apply to your phones screen. More particularly the relation between the compressive force your head creates and the maximum compressive strength of the material in question before failure of that material under load. (Stress= F/A) The Nexus 7 uses Corning Gorilla Glass which has a maximum compressive strength of 800 MPa. That's 224,808.944 pound-forces per meter^2 and your head does not exert anywhere near that number.
Like I said you really have nothing to worry about you won't damage your screen by laying it under your pillow.
I'm surprised no one brought up the very real possibility of overheating. Sure, you can rest your head on it - but you're smothering it under a pillow and not allowing for the heat it will generate to dissipate.
It would be especially bad if you were charging at the same time - and either way not something I'd recommend anyone do. Why shorten the lifespan of your device by exposure to high internal temperatures if there are other options (like using it with a pillow speaker instead).
Or you could get a wireless headset?

Cranberry juice

What would happen to my phone if I completely submerged it in cranberry juice? I'm trying to pass a Chem class and the professor wants me to do something impressive with my phone since he sees me on it all the time. I showed him Cyanogenmod and the like but he's not fazed. Have you seen their latest of wanting to take android away from Google? Do they not realize that if Google stopped pushing code to aosp they would die off completely. Then adding in untested code that causes tons of issues, forcing some of their developers to close source their apps so they can make money off of it. Yeah they deserve it. To the point that main aosp based roms have stopped using their sources and are ditching their theme manager.

What would happen to my phone if I completely submerged it in cranberry juice? I'm trying to pass a Chem class and the professor wants me to do something impressive with my phone since he sees me on it all the time. I showed him Cyanogenmod and the like but he's not fazed. He's like, 75 and doesn't understand computers. I don't know about the electrical capacitance of berry juice so I was wondering if I put my myTouch 4G Slide in a clear bucket of cranberry juice whether or not it would still be on while in the juice.

You could "do something impressive" within the bounds of Chemistry. Dunking a phone in cranberry juice (or any other flavour) isn't impressive at all. I see someone already suggested making a battery...

Is that what you've settled on?
If so, onions and proper leads can give you an eye-wateringly bigger jolt than citrus fruits... :crying:
Please do not put your perfectly good phone in cranberry juice.... please.
Instead do this....
Get an old charging cable you don't care about (a lot cheaper to destroy)....
and show you can charge your phone with a make-shift battery.
Whatever battery you make I recommend using a diode connected transistor or some kind of a limiter to limit current to your phone so you don't burn it out incase you make some awesome kind of a bad ass battery.
That will impress your professor.
Tips:
You can make a fruit battery out of:
Four lemons (the bigger and juicier the better)
Four pennies
Five zinc-galvanized nails
Five sets of alligator clips
but I'm not sure if the mA would be enough to charge your phone but it will be enough to power a small LED.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of a fruit battery, more like an old school voltaic pile made out of coins (like pennies) or metal disks from the hardware store. Depending on which metals and electrolyte you use, you should get 0.5V to 1V per "cell". The diode transistor is a super good idea, and you probably will need a voltmeter to determine how many volts your battery is producing and you should also be able to determine the mAmp being produced. Look at the specs of your the charger for your device and just make sure you don't go over the current or voltage specs. My guess is that you will not be able to generate enough current to fully charge your device, so I would leave it off and just try and get the "battery charging" display to light up for a bit. If you go down this route, be prepared to answer some "chemistry" teacher type questions. The more you know the more impressed your teacher will be.

Well, then, I planned to do something with something related to that. I just might use pennies, foamboard soaked in vinegar, and zinc discs.

That's exactly what I was thinking. The fruit trick is used too often and has lost its value.

I bought a new phone yesterday, so my old myTouch will be fine to destroy just in case. The camera doesn't work, neither does the flash, or certain other things. I bought it on Amazon for $50.

Well if you have voltmeter you can set up your pile and try different electorlytes. Typically the stronger the acid and saltier it is the better. So you can try salt water, distilled vinegar, and salt added to distilled vinegar as your electrolytes and record the voltage/cell for each electrolyte...make a nice table, build your (probably 5V battery) explaining how the table helped you choose what kind to build, make a pretty picture displaying the chemistry involved and badda bing...you are done

That's a great idea. I don't have a working camera so I can't take pictures of the process to show you guys...
