[Q] overcharging your galaxy note 10.1 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does overcharging your galaxy note 10.1 affect your battery health condition? And does it shorten your battery life? I'm just so worried because I already overcharged it for 3 times in a row now....

I ALWAYS over charge my devices and never had any issues..over charge at days at a time..You should be good..
Sent From Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 [N8013]

The Note has auto dection of when the battery is full and only trickle charges after its full. Shouldn't hurt too much but I wouldn't suggest leaving it on for weeks at a time....

Yes - overcharging is possible!!! And it can shorten the lifetime of the device to a few seconds. Believe it or not, I killed two Samsung Note 10.1 tablets in just 2 weeks! One was electrocuted by using a fast charger (Output 5V 3A) and it died within 3 seconds. I sent it for repair, but it would have costed as much as a new one. The other one was slowly fryed to dead by leaving it connected to a charger overnight (5V 2A). In the morning, both the charger and the tablet were hot like hell, and the tablet refused to boot. Yes, call me stupid... Whether using only original Samsung chargers and cables is safer I don't know, but I reommend to be more carefull than I was.

Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1 Chargers Interchangeable?

Hey guys,
I asked this question on the Note 2 forum, but maybe there aren't many users that have a note 2 and have a note 10.1; so I'm hoping that there are more users here that have a note 10 and also have the note 2 (does that make sense?)
The thread is about to jump to page 2, so I don't think I'm getting any hits there. Both chargers say that the output is 5V at around 2A.
No note 10.1 needs more power

They will, it just might take longer to charge is all... I use the same charger from my galaxy tab 7" (1st galaxy tab) and it works fine for my SGS3, note 1 and note 10.1...
Best idea is to try, You won't fry your note 10.1....
i know the gn2 charges fine on the gn10.1 charger with both fast and trickle. I'm pretty positive the gn2 charger would be fine on the gn10.1 since it's a 2A charger. i havent used the charger yet since ive got 2 other 2A samsung chargers.

Galaxy tab 7 charger is the same as. Note 10.1 but galaxy note 2 charger gives less power and you will find a red cross on the battery icon when you charge with it (it will actually charge but it may take all the day to charge it)
Sent from my X10S using xda app-developers app
As I said, might take longer... Just like when you attach to a USB on your PC... It will charge but a lot slower....
Still a good idea if you need to keep a charger at home and one at work as it's better than not having a second charger at all... Though it's just as easy to attach to a PC...
unless the gn2 is wired differetly than every other samsung device there shouldn't be any difference in charge times as both use 5V 2A chargers im over 90% so i can test fast charge yet. hooking it up does not show the not charging icon so I'd assume it's not trickling. I've read that non samsug chargers charge under 400mA. the gn2 is charging currently at 507mA. I'll have to wait a few hours or tomorrow to see if it fast charges, which im sure it will
confirmed the both work equally. both charge up to 1.5A. i dont see any record of the gn10.1 charger ever going higher than 1.536A.
Well, this clarifies things. I was just wondering as the Note 2's charger is almost half the size of the note 10's. Maybe the size is just an updated design...
At least now I can have one of the device's charger at home and the other at work and not worrying in frying one the device by not using the proper charger.
I want to order the desktop charger for the note 2 and I think that comes with its own charger head....

I answered in the Note 2 forum with:
I have both and was interested in the question as well (do I need to carry both with me or will I have one in my travel bag and one @home).
I checked both and both are rated @2A so their capacaty is the same.
The note 10.1 shows only a 'red cross' in charging on the PC or on a charger from old Galaxy S2.
Now, plugged to the charget from Note II it works with same current than on original charger
Now I plugged the Note 2 into the Note 10.1 charger, and it's charging with same 1.8A as with original charger!
So from my side it's clear, they are interchangeable
I will use the Note 10.1 for home and the Note 2 charger for travel Old charger stays @ home, could make only 900mA...
P.s.: I checked charger currents by reading /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_now with root explorer.

Interesting, I have the Note 10.1 and the original charger with the original cable only gets me about 1180.

Yes, the reading on 10.1 depends a lot on other topics like loading % and how much energy just used by the tab. Don't ask me why!

The supplied charger on my Note 10.1 takes about 12 hours to full charge my tablet. Is there ANY WAY to charge it faster without burning it out or, is this just the lay of the land?

That doesn't look right. I can charge mine in 3hr fully. Have it checked or try another charger from another 10.1 user.

Are you still using it when you charge it? Mine also takes about 3-4 hours to charge
I have them both and chargers habe the same specs. 2A and 5V so I dont see or experience any problems.

[Q] Samsung Tab chargers cause slow charging? Or is it crappy JB?

Is it just me? Is anyone else getting bad charge time from their pre-packaged Samsung charger? We use our Tab 2 10.1 and Note 10.1 (original) with the same Samsung charger. But, it has begun to charge slower and slower until we actually have to leave it overnight just to charge it. And even then it isn't even fully charged! This is a recurring issue with many people here and i haven't been able to find a solution. Maybe it's the rom... or its the charger.

Oy. I was hoping it was just the ROM. Samsung is known for crappy Touchwiz....but that's why i got the Note in the first place, LOL. So, an official manufactuer of this charger, like Belkin, would make a charger that actually lets this thing work properly? Sam Tabs...do they have a history of a really crappy charger?

Then there might be an issue with your Charging adapter.......it shouldn't take that much long..... Wall charging only takes 3-4 hours to fully charge the tablet for me...My tablet is almost similar to yours(4000 maH) and yours may be 4450 maH(if its tab 3 8.0),,,so you can consider 5-6 hours in worst case.

It is Tab 3, 7". I thought the same thing. I tried charging it with my Samsung Galaxy 3 phone - charging adapter but still the same.
I bought it in Dubai. I won't be able to go there until May. It has 1 year warranty. Thanks lokesh
my tab had been charging 100% within 5-6 hrs in wall mount... later i tried many kitkat roms and due to problem in bluetooth now i back to stock based rom... i tried 8 different roms in 5 days time.. and started to facing the delay in charging from the second day itself... many times even i work in my tab with charging... but still charge was draining rather than charging... even after switching to my old rom i am facing the same problem... the battery drains instead of charge...even when i keep it untouched it takes a lot more time to chrge, say for 10 hrs .... does that mean the adapter is messy or the rom related issue
Reviving the dead
Came across this thread looking for a solution to an extremely slow charging Tab 3 8.0. I also have an S5 as a personal phone and an S3 as a work phone. The Tab charged at about 2-3% per hour on all of the chargers. I plugged it up to my wife's Motorola Moto G charger and went from 65% to 100% charge in about an hour.
It's insane that the manufacturer of the device can't make a charger that works properly, but whatever.
If you're having this issue, try a different (respected) third party charger.
Finally, I guess I found the solution
Yup, It's not the device, not charger, and not the ports
Well, it's the cables,
Loose/Bad/Thin cables generally aren't able to transfer high rates of Amps, thus, a infinite time to charge.
I noticed my Tablet is having the same issue, so I plugged the original charger with it's original cable into my phone, and measured the current, my phone usually charges at 700ma, however, I noticed the current going up to 700ma for few moments, and then down to 400, again to 700, and down to 400, this made me think that this was a bad cable
And you ask, why Galaxy S3 and other chargers weren't able to charge the tablet quickly, it's simple, because these cables are cheaper cables that can't transfer 2A for the tablet, use a better 2A designed cable, it will charge your tablet
My tip, buy the shortest cable you can and charge with that. I have compared charging times with so many devices and come to the conclusion the shorter the cable the shorter the charging time. Everytime! A 20cm cable will dramatically reduce charging time!

Note4 Quick charger on other devices

I've always used my note3 charger on my note 10.1 without issues and I'm very disappointed to see that the quick charger that comes with my note4 doesn't charge my note10.1!
When it's connected the red cross on the battery pops up (this usually happens when a low power charger is used)
Does this happen to you too or have I a broken charger?

No problems for me. I am using it to charge my Sony tablet-z with no problems.
Greetz
My Note 4 charger charges my Nexus 10 without issues.
The Note 4's charger works on my Note 10.1 2014 ed. It obviously doesn't fast charge my tablet though.
The charger is SUPPOSED to act as a 9V charger when connected to Fast Charge devices like the Note 4, but also act as a 5V charger for any other device. If the device can't use the full 5V (like a phone that only uses 2V or something), the device itself will only draw as much power as it can accept under 5V (2V for example).
If your charger isn't charging your Note 10.1, then the charger could be bad, or maybe even your tablet's charging port. If the tablet charges with other chargers, then I doubt it's the latter.

I get the same thing. I have a note 10.1 and using my note 4's adaptive charger with the note 10.1 charge cable I get the dreaded red x -- meaning super slow charge. All items are in perfect working order (doesn't happen with other 2 amp non-adaptive charging chargers).

[Q] charger problem on galaxy tab s 8.4 (T 705)

recently I've bought a galaxy tab s 8.4 , but take too mach time (about 6 hours) to charging with it's stock charger (5.3 v , 2.0 A) , when i charged with note 4 charger (5 v , 2.0 A) , it charged normal (about 2.5 hours)
now i have two questions :
1. the note 4 charger is suitable for my device ? isn't bad for battery life ?
2.is it possible that the stock charger was fake !!!???
I only have the 10.5 and i dont really know the full charge time as i only ever charge to 80% so as to reduce the cumlative damage to the battery that is cause when you charge to 100%.
A slow charge is better as it produces less heat than a fast charge does, heat is the enemy of battery health.
Your tab s 8.4 has an 4900mah battery, your note 4 has only an 3220mah battery, I dont really know why one charger charges faster than the other.

You should get yourself a "usb power meter" lots on ebay i have a couple that only cost me £3 each delivered they allow you to see how much power your usb devices are charging at in real time, they show my 10.5 charging at approx 2amp with the supplied 5.3v 2amp charger that came with my 10.5
John.
Try exchanging the cables. Sometimes broken cable can be the culprit.
It is the same MHL3 compatible charger, 2 Amps specified, at 5,2V which is approx 10 Watts.
Should take around 2 hours to charge the 18,6 Wh battery.

1) The Note 4 charger is fine. You cannot overcharge because the kernel limits the charging speed.
2) Who knows, but my T705 arrived with a European charger with US adapter and it charges slower than I expected. Definitely slower than my Note 4 charges. I'll try charging the T705 with my Note 4. Never considered doing that.
I used the Tab S charger to charge my Note 4 today.
Using the Galaxy Charging app, I was seeing charge averages upwards of 1500MaH. So it's at least that fast, maybe faster.
The phone charged in about the time I expected it to, compared against the stock Note 4 charger.

I have the same problem...needs about 7 hours to charge..
I know people are in a hurry, but slow charging is better for the battery, as when you charge the battery fast it gets hot and heat is bad for the battery, also try not to charge your battery when it is hot, left it cool down a bit first.
Try to charge overnight when you are sleeping, set an alarm to remind you to plug it in before you go to bed.
Have a read of the link below, it will give you some advice on how to make your battery live as long as possible, If you have lots of money don`t worry about it.

My s7 takes too long to charge, using fast charge

Months ago I had an S7 with the mm version and that s7 charge the battery very fast, i think. Now I bought this new one and I updated it to nogaut (very fast I opened it and updated to 7.0)
I noticed that it takes a lot to charge the battery and I do not know if it is normal or I am crazy or what?, but it takes more than an hour to charge (using fast charge)
I am using the charger of my note 5 (Also used in my old S7 ) that never gave me problems and charge my note 5 in less than an hour, and the battery of note 5 is bigger than the s7.
I need to know if my phone is damaged, is normal, the rom, the charger or cable usb? Some usb cables AAA quality used on my note 5 dont work on my s7. Gave me a notification of wet usb port when it is not :good:
